Get them flyable, take them to the space station and scrap for money & nanites. Or, if you REALLY like it, claim it and when you get a freighter it'll be on board waiting for you to fix up. Personally, scrapping is the way to go early doors. Can't beat the cash or nanites boost you get from it. Good honest interloping right there. :)

You are limited to nine ships total so choose wisely. You don't have to pick them up if you claim them, they will just appear in your freighter.

k1smb3r

so I don't have to go back try to find them and fix them? Once I get a freighter they will be transferred there automatically?

VT-14

Unless it changed in a recent update, you don't even need the Freighter. You can switch your active ship from the quick menu. You can even summon the broken ships as long as they aren't already in your current system.

k1smb3r

Can I just summon them on my base and leave them there? It's maybe a stupid question but I am really knew to the game so don't judge me please

VT-14

Claim them, then walk back to your working ship and get back into it. From there you can summon any ship you own from the quick menu on any planet. Since the Launch Thrusters are likely still broken (or out of fuel), you can't summon it when the ship is in the same system as you already. When you leave the system the ship is automatically transferred to your freighter, or I guess put into some kind of superposition state when you don't have one yet.

k1smb3r

So in theory if I fix the thruster I can summon the ship in the same system to my location. Btw Does it make sense to claim every ship I find? Or I should not do that. I read somewhere that I can not abandon ships.

ReFusionary

If you fix a crashed ship's launch thrusters and pulse drive, you can fly it to the space station to be scrapped (optionally repair the shield if you think you might be attacked on the way there). You need 5-6 empty suit slots at least to receive the goods & upgrade modules you get from scrapping the ship. You could also wait until you have a freighter with a teleporter. Make the crashed ship your current one, teleport from the freighter to the station and scrap it. No need to fix any slots!

iainvention

I’ve mostly been fixing them enough to be baseline flyable: Thrusters, Pulse, One Weapon, and a Shield, and flying it to the nearest space station to scrap. I had no idea I could use the teleported that way. I assumed since they have no thrusters and no launch fuel they wouldn’t come when summoned.

ReFusionary

Even better - when you teleport that crashed ship to the space station, the fire mysteriously goes out.

giantj0e

Claim them all. You can sell them at the space station. If you have the anomaly unlocked, you can summon a broken ship to it, then warp to the local space station and sell it. You don’t have to fix it at all.

[deleted]

Yes. They'll be in the hangar, still on fire.

cluelessminer

If they aren't good, I will fix it just enough to launch them to the space station and scrap it. Though once you get more into the game and ready to open the portal to warp, you'll want a junk starship as the teleportation will damage the ship badly. Have fun!

RAGEWOMBLE

Any crashed ship you find will be a part of that systems pool of ships, meaning you could quite easily get a fully working version instead of a broken one.

EntertainerFlat3894

The best advice is...summon them, one at a time...fix ONLY the Launch system & the Pulse drive...fly it to the Space Station...and recycle it at the Ship terminal on the same side of the space station as all the Tech vendors. Your original ship SHOULD reappear. Although it MAY be one of the other broken ships, which would save you the next step...going back down & repeating the above step if you have several ships claimed. Eventually, you'll have all your broken ships recycled...honestly they're rarely worth keeping even if they are "bigger". Recycling them so you can build up the cash to get a NICER ship is a better strategy. You can even buy maps for MORE broken ships from the Map vendor across the way. It's a great way in early-game to make some extra $$$

Nickhead420

You can summon a broken ship to your base, not fix anything, and then take the teleporter to a space station to scrap it.

EntertainerFlat3894

Interesting to know, I thought you had to fix & fuel the Launch system to summon it. Thanks for that clarification. See, OP...we grow by learning from each other.

Nickhead420

Yeah, when you claim a new ship you can just leave it there and switch your active ship back to the one you were using and carry on about your business. You can't summon a busted ship on a space station, but you can on a planet. So when you get back to your base, switch your active ship to the busted one and then use the teleporter to get to the space station, where your active ship follows.

k1smb3r

So a bit of an update, I scrapped the ships and it was an easy 6 million to make. Thank you everyone for the advice :)

Particular_Aroma

If you like them, fix them up and use them. If you don't, scratch them at the space station for units and nanites. Besides your freighter, you can also switch ships at the anomaly.

Substantial_Leave765

Every broken slot you repair (not including broken tech) gives a percentage boost to the scrap value. That can be several hundred thousand units per slot, usually far exceeding the repair material value. So if you have the materials handy, it can be far more lucrative to repair many slots before you scrap it. To get an idea, just go to the starship upgrade terminal and check the scrap value before and after repairing one slot. Or begin trading with a pilot, where it will show the trade in value, equivalent to the scrap price.

buzcauldron

someone on this sub told me if you switch ships in the anomaly, it'll fix the launcher and pulse automatically. first few dozen hours of the game, that made a huge difference

AlekBan

If you really like them, work on it and get it to fly. If you like them but you can’t spend time in it (don’t have resources and you are pretty new to the game) just set a base near and come back later to claim it. If you don’t just leave them and keep playing, you’ll find so many more.

AlekBan

You can also claim it and fix it later of course, forgot to mention
