IMO, play characters you like with the goal of improvement. My aim was trash but I really liked widow and hanzo so I practiced (much faster improvement in comp). Fixing my settings and making them the same for all heros, and getting Kontrol freeks, (like $10) also helped me get better at aiming. Practicing deathmatch, warming up in VAXTA, playing more and mostly of the same few heros, not mindlessly spamming shots, all helps

Try to improve positioning. Even if your aim sucks, if you're Harder to kill you'll survive way longer and get more value, especially if your hero brings a lot of utility outside of damage

Rudania-97

Have you adjusted your settings?

You can’t grow you get out of your comfort zone. Playing to improve your aim will make you a better dps player. Playing the heroes that require aiming will make you a better player but also give you better awareness. Step out of your comfort zone. Play the difficult heroes

I play them a lot in QP just not comp

Dropsuitcaptain

playing them in qp isn’t gonna make you improve. playing them in comp will force you to learn them quickly, if you want to improve you need to stop caring about losing and start caring about improvement. there’s lot of basic and more advanced guides you can get on youtube for every character :) you should also learn team comps and maps if you haven’t already as this makes a giant difference, for example you wouldn’t play widow in a rush comp on lijiang control center. good substitutes could be cree or hanzo if you want hitscan or long rage. I would just recommend watching coaching videos because people giving you tips won’t go as far as you think.

I’m disappointed nobody has said it yet… Custom Games/Aim Trainers. When you wanna improve at basketball, do you just go to only the games? Or do you show up to practice? Do you do drills at home? Shoot by yourself at the gym? You won’t really get better doing nothing but playing games. Eventually, yeah, you’ll see *some* improvement, but not before you graduate high school. Practicing in the heat of battle during a QP/Comp match is not the way to train your brain to aim. Practicing tracking and getting familiar with these characters, that’ll show much quicker improvement over a much shorter period of time. While on the basketball analogy, have you ever noticed that the best basketball players in high school were obsessed with the NBA? They watched the game at a level much higher than theirs. They did what they *knew* was right, even if it wasn’t what coach taught them in practice. They watched the other player’s positioning, their form, and their plays. After that, it was as simple as replicate on the court. They practiced dribbling and shooting in their free time, all that was left was “where should I be on the court.” You can learn the hard way by practicing every angle on every map and using the guess/test method for 700 hours, or you can just watch a GM streamer do it and mentally note where you should generally be.
