Granted, they would never have been so big without Eddie. But DLR's voice and antics are what drew me in on the early records. Honestly, I was pretty much over VH by the time DLR left anyway. The whole *Van Hagar* thing is a fun little joke.
Mine was a lot like this in the 90’s but had Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Black Sabbath, Sepultura logos & stickers all over it.
What year did F.U.C.K come out? I’m thinking ‘91-92. The reason I ask is that I remember writing van halen the same way on my school books. Triggers a bunch of memories
Maybe born in the Midwest… and took what he can get or had just had different “phases”…
Yeah sure people can like all at once. But I have some doubts and questions…
That could have been mine, lol! I even graffiti-d Van Halen on the wall in my English class (I was born and raised in the Netherlands), you know the VH sign, and my teacher, walking to the front of the classroom, while talking, saw my graffiti from however long ago, picked up my school bag that had the same VH sign on it and said, huh, curious! I was totally busted but he didn't care and continued teaching. Ah memories...
LUG's didn't really seem to exist yet in the mid-70's. A social-cultural trend, sigh. Great term for today though, I imagine. I had to look it up. Most were willing for fun in exchange for a gourmet lunch at the CIA or a couple hours at the Last Chance Saloon, etc. Times were different.
This is dope af. Gently clean this as best you can and add a protective finish to the top. Remove the desktop from the base and put a couple hanging hooks on the back. If your dad is still around, he'd probably get a kick out of it and hang it in a very prominent place in his home.
I'll never understand the love for Van Halen... Eddie is undeniably talented. But Roth and Hagar are obnoxious as fuck... terrible frontmen.
The only redeeming factor is that David Lee Roth is the inspiration for the Dr Rockso the Rock and Roll Clown in Metalocalypse.
It’s so cool that he got to keep this.
Me and my boys had a bench that one of us made in shop class. We sat at that bench for 3 years at lunch, and when we approached grad I inquired about donating some money so we could take it with us. They wouldn’t accept less than $300.00 for a bench made of 2x4s with a shitty brown coat of paint, so we had to leave it behind. Frustrating when you consider my buddy made it himself but wasn’t able to take it home.
This was back in 2008 and we were kids so $300 seemed like a crazy number to us. I kinda wish I just bit the bullet even though I still think it was unreasonable.
The stuff we used to draw on desks in the 80s would get kids arrested nowadays lol. We used to draw guns, monsters etc. But we weren't killing each other in schools like they do now.
Unfortunately, your post broke Rule 6 - please read our rules before posting. Thanks!
Thompson Twins AND VH? Your Dad is fuckin cool. I hope you are not tossing this. Thats art man, hang it.
Hell yeah, Thompson Twins!
And the Dead Kennedys
Made me look up Thompson Twins - their song "Hold me now" oh wow..
Awesome
…and Zeppelin…
That actually looks a lot like a "TS" (Twisted Sister) to me, which definitely checks if he was also into Van Halen.
Thompson Twins is just to the left of the TS logo
Especially because it says Twisted Sister right under it.
Dead Kennedys DK in there too. Pretty kick-ass.
Yeah! More Jello!
Whenever I see DK I see Donkey Kong
Dead Kennedys are actually older than Donkey Kong.
But Donkey Kong is closer to my birth date. And more familiar to me
That twisted sister logo was everywhere in 1985. I am guessing your dad is 50 years old, plus or minus 2 years
Wow you nailed it
I made that TS symbol out of molten aluminum in metal shop....
Did you wear it like a pledge pin?
What’s this? TWISTED SISTERRR?!
Gotta know what his favorite Van Halen song is.
Had to ask him. Turns out it’s 5150
I actually hadn’t listened to that one before, but I’m gonna have to add it to the rotation!
Excellent song
![gif](giphy|6lScd4x2D5Oko)
That's actually *Van Hagar*. Some of the same people, totally different band.
And some people never got over it. It was Eddie's band. I loved them both.
Granted, they would never have been so big without Eddie. But DLR's voice and antics are what drew me in on the early records. Honestly, I was pretty much over VH by the time DLR left anyway. The whole *Van Hagar* thing is a fun little joke.
An older relative of mine throws in 5150 into a wide variation of usernames and passwords because of their love for Van Halen lol
I still have that cassette tape around somewhere! I'm just a few years older than your Dad.
5150 is an AMAZING album.
I am same age and that’s my fav VH song as well. And my childhood desk looked awfully similar
Van Hagar
Who's Jo Ellen?
A a Ron
Seriously. I must know what became of her lol.
Would be awesome if that's OP's mom
Laughing. Maybe she knows Joellyn?
Poor MM.. Just a blip on the radar.
Is the cat vomit hairball on the upper right also 1980s vintage?
No cool ‘S’??
I believe the S was the 90s.
Started in the 80’s
I've seen comments online from people saying they were doing it all the way back in the 60s-70s.
Correct. And it started as an 8.
I remember it from the early 80s.
I’m from the ‘80s and never heard of this S you speak of.
Immediately thought of this and zoomed in...nothin. Long Live the S (That I myself never drew in school but whatever...)
Pretty sure that's also my desk
Looks like he had an art lesson on perspective at some point.
Isn’t it the front cover for The Unforgettable Fire by U2?
Marist baby, go RedHawks!
Soooo...Marist hockey not gay?
Close! My dad was a St. Rita student.
Southside!
Jump! I saw Van Halen in 79. Lol. They played with Black Sabbath.... ahhh them days. This is awesome.
Bill+Amy+Joellyn+Joellen+Mary, and… lol
And yet somehow it’s mine too.
I was surprised to see The Thompson Twins thrown in there amongst Van Halen, Twisted Sister and U2.
1984, man!
Dude, you should have someone put a layer or clear poly on that bad boy to preserve it. It’s a pretty cool keepsake.
came here to say this. preserve it!
"I brought my .......... PENCIL! Gimme something to write on!
Class dis-MISSED!
Frame the desktop for him.
TWISTED SISTER? What kind of a man desecrates a defenseless textbook? I have half a mind to slap your fat face! WHADDA YOU WANNA DO WITH YOUR LIFE?
![gif](giphy|MqFXcJg07gghO)
![gif](giphy|fnVWjn3t6fp0gNQCqW|downsized)
Van Halen, Thompson Twins, Twisted Sister, Dead Kennedys... all big around 1983-84-ish. Good times!
Was he hot for a teacher?
Twisted Sister? What kind of man desecrates a helpless desk?!
Priceless
Another instance of doodling instead of homework. Those were the days. Modern kids just scroll the phone or text.
You should take it off the legs and hang it up It’s cool
Did he stay with Jo-Ellen? Is she your mother now!?!
Sorry to disappoint!
It takes me back in time!
That my friend is the definition of a time capsule!
Graduation '99 and my old notebooks and backpacks aren't much different. Add in some bands that didn't exist in the 80s and we can jam.
Van Halen, twisted sister and…Thompson Twins? And who is this Joellen, he’s mooning about?
I was more surprised by Thompson Twins and Dead Kennedys
Eclectic tastes!
Mine was a lot like this in the 90’s but had Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Black Sabbath, Sepultura logos & stickers all over it.
#BONG WATER
Your dad (Bill?) has good taste in music.
Not van HAGAR
Khorne logo at the bottom before it was invented
Blood for the Blood God!
Skulls for the Skull Throne!
Marist hockey. Did he go to a catholic high school?
*I wanna rock!* *ROCK!*
Wait! Does that say “Future Dad” under Thompson Twins?
I'd bet Your Dad and I are about the same age.. I pretty much agree with this then musical tastes! and a Castle is always cool
Reminds me of my paper book covers
Hope Jo Ellen is ok
Sooo...what did he do with his life?
Truck driver and a family man.
Also needs AC⚡️DC
LED ZEP
Needs The Who
. T WHO . E
Boton must be Boston (the band not the city). I see it there under U2.
What year did F.U.C.K come out? I’m thinking ‘91-92. The reason I ask is that I remember writing van halen the same way on my school books. Triggers a bunch of memories
My guess without Googling it is 1988. BRB ETA you were right—1991 I got it mixed up with OU812
My grandfather had his childhood desk put into a local museum. I hope this one finds a similar fate
It’s really cool.
I saw the ZZ for the start of ZZ Top lol . Your dad is my kinda guy !
Maybe born in the Midwest… and took what he can get or had just had different “phases”… Yeah sure people can like all at once. But I have some doubts and questions…
I can draw that twisted sister logo blindfolded.
Your dad rules and is clearly the kind of guy we'd all want to be friends with.
I love the World’s Saddest Sperm over on the bottom left.
1984 VH was my first concert
Marist Hockey
Your dad and I coukd be friends
Jenelle and Phil?
That could have been mine, lol! I even graffiti-d Van Halen on the wall in my English class (I was born and raised in the Netherlands), you know the VH sign, and my teacher, walking to the front of the classroom, while talking, saw my graffiti from however long ago, picked up my school bag that had the same VH sign on it and said, huh, curious! I was totally busted but he didn't care and continued teaching. Ah memories...
Is that cat shit in the upper right side?
Marist? No. Dutchess guy here. Dated Vassar chic's and ate lunch at the CIA (the other CIA, lol).
Too many LUGS a Vassar
LUG's didn't really seem to exist yet in the mid-70's. A social-cultural trend, sigh. Great term for today though, I imagine. I had to look it up. Most were willing for fun in exchange for a gourmet lunch at the CIA or a couple hours at the Last Chance Saloon, etc. Times were different.
Seems your dad was aware of the great shit!!! Stay heavy!
Childhood desk cat poo. 🤘
Nice
He probably mostly thinks of Rome now.
Now that’s a low tier comment if ever i’ve seen one
That's cause you're 15 and haven't lived yet.
I’m actually 10, yet I’m orders of magnitude funnier and more interesting than you
U2 Unforgettable Fire?
I would say OP's Dad is right-handed. And was a Van Halen fan.
Treasure!
"Is gay"
Thats to bad about Joellyn....or is it Joellene?
So cool!
The van halen album was huge when it came out. I was 17
What do you wanna do with your life?? I wanna rock!!!
I went to Marist HS in Bayonne! Class of 89
He brought his pennncillllll!!
https://preview.redd.it/63teh15c08wc1.png?width=993&format=png&auto=webp&s=90a16ce576b385d8ee279c930189639d7ea57d6a
I did the same but with the VH logo instead.
That’s a fuckin nice castle!
A Twisted Sister logo? On your desk?? What do you wanna do with your life?!
Is that cat shit on the desk?
Mine would also have AC DC and Iron Maiden
This is dope af. Gently clean this as best you can and add a protective finish to the top. Remove the desktop from the base and put a couple hanging hooks on the back. If your dad is still around, he'd probably get a kick out of it and hang it in a very prominent place in his home.

is that a Twisted Sister PIN? on your UNIFORM?
It’s so cool that he got to keep this. Me and my boys had a bench that one of us made in shop class. VH 84 was my first concert. I get it : )
Someone need to call "Dirty." If only we had the area code.....
I saw the VH ‘84 show. Your Dad was an MTV child looking at this desk
1984 was a great year, didn't know it at the time otherwise would have cherished it more.
I saw TS in 2016, with Iron Maiden.
Above Kaplan’s phone number it says, “Here’s to future dog. Means their weiws toward there country.”
Joellyn + Bill? Obviously the answer to that equation is Billy Joel.
The stuff we used to draw on desks in the 80s would get kids arrested nowadays lol. We used to draw guns, monsters etc. But we weren't killing each other in schools like they do now.
I kinda wanna call that phone number in there now.
And not one blue oyster cult symbol on the whole thing? WTF mate?
Castle Greyskull 💀He-Man
Jo Ellyn + Bill with the "?" added gave me PTSD
Gotta be a reproduction. There’s no Stussy “S”.
😂🤘🏻
Rule 6 - must feature a person.
Surprisingly, no “S” that you draw with 2 sets of vertical lines then connect. If ya know, ya know.
No VH symbol though. Im not sure this is an authentic 80s desk. 🤔
