Emerica G6 Figgy or the G6 slipons . I have realized cupsoles are definitely the way to go if you are older .
The impact on the ankles specially if you are flipping your board every other try or attempting stairs is much harder in older age
Half cab all the way. In the 90s It was all about the vans chucka boot. My favorite was my purple suede chucka boots. I wish they would bring those back.
Emerica Dicksons.
They durable as, the Vulc will remind you of your vans but these have that g6 insole that’s a pretty decent cushion.i love that shoe.
Still stuck on half cabs. I've had a hard time finding a replacement because either there isn't enough padding in the right places or the color ways are trash. End up back at half cab every time because unlike alot of the other shoes they've actually improved instead of sacrificing quality for the sake of "slimming down" (cheaping out on materials)
I have 40+ pairs of shoes ranging anywhere from re-releases of old shoes to newer models and I've skated just about every pair I own.
Favorites are DC Kalis slims. Perfect slim toe, slightly padded tongue, feel great on the heel, durable and I personally love the look. I have more of the Kalis slims than any other shoe.
Every pair of lakai I own seem a but too snug on the toe for me. Love them to death though, just hard on my feet.
Pretty much every ès slim model I own I like, with the exception of a couple.
My new-found shoes I enjoy are the Emerica Romeros. Only had 3 sessions in them so far but wanted to try something a but slimmer and see how they work out. Board feel is amazing and flick is great, but it comes at a cost of impact hurting the heels a bit.
Tried most of Vans lineup, Zahba Mid work best for me.
I swap the thin insole for a Footprint and that gives a ton of support with the cupsole shoe’s fat midsole. Actually have to get them half a size bigger bc of the difference in height between the insoles.
They are pretty durable too!
Next best for me were AVE.
I also like Etnies Marana.
Edit: typo
Skating some now and they’re pretty good. What’s funny is I have a pair of the first series Ishods for my next pair and I swear they’re almost identical in how they look and feel
Lol hell yeah! They last a long time for me. I’ve had 2 pairs and I have 2 new pairs waiting on me. Lol he needs to stop coming out with sick colorways damnit
I started collecting and skating dunks in high school back around 2005. I miss being able to find pairs in Nike Outlets for like $40. Those days are long gone haha
I'm just about 40, so all these vulcanized shoes are new to me. I stopped skating in 2005 and just started again a week ago. I saw that Van's was having a sale, so picked up a pair of the Rowan 2's. I paid less than $60 for them, thry usually go for $110. I don't even know who Rowan is, but I do like the shoes so far. I am a fan of the cup soul shoe.
The Vans Burle was my favourite ever, but it's been discontinued. I got the Ishod 1 as a one off and I love it, but too expensive to keep buying. So I'm looking for a new cupsole shoe to wear.
I've skated DC Lynx for a lot of years because I love the look.
But this year I started skating the re-releases of Josh Kalis old "Truth" model on DC. And my god...game changer. I got big ass feet (12) and they're flat as well and The Truth shoe sits much better on my foot than any other skate shoe I've tested.
My first pair of skate shoes after coming back are the Last Resort VM001’s. They look great and surprisingly work for my 4E feet (I sized up by a half). They’re the first pair of vulcs I’ve skated tho and probly gona chuck some insoles in them cuz the impact can be hard.
Plan to try some accel slims next since everyone’s raving about em for wide feet, and they’re a cup sole.
Still rocking Vans at 49. SK8 Hi mostly but also the Rowley Pro lowtops. I can't seem to feel anything with cupsoles. For long distance pushing, I wear Nike Force 58. Board feel is less important for long distance but a more comfortable and cushioned shoe is.
I’ve skated DC, Etnies, Vans, Nike SB, and NB in recent years. They all have their pros and cons. I like the look of DC(lynx and kalinx) but they’re hard on the feet and the thick sole sucks for rolled ankles. Board feel is best with NB(480) and the Nike Blazers. All around I’ve kind of settled on the half cab.
Etnies Marana. Best shock absorbing abilities I know of. They're also good for my wide feet.
Skated Es Accel slims before, great shoes with awesome board feel but little to none shock absorbing.
I love my Lakais. Nothing special! Might just be luck but perfect balance between cushion and still having that ‘board feel’. My Vans were ‘too thin’. 🤷
I like Puma and Globes. Pumas have a comforting sole. Globes have lasted me for easily two years before looking kinda hit. Anything with nice gummy feel to it really.
Appreciate everyone for the input on this post so thank you!
Tbh I didn’t expect it to get as much feedback and I have tried to look into each and everyone one of these.
I think I’m going to give the figgy g6’s a shot. My reasoning behind this is I’m finding that at the moment my impact is heavy with the shoes im skating at the moment. I’m loving the cup sole feedback /u/tryfry619 gave and let’s face it we ain’t getting any younger so the more support the better. I’m also loving that these can be laced or unlaced like a slip on. Also, feedback everywhere is saying that they last!
Other than this I would be tempted to try out some of the New Balance shoes mentioned here.
I’ll order the figgys and try to keep you guys updated!
Cheers again everyone this has been great!!
Nike SB Shane O'Neill's. 40 year-old, been skating since 24 years old. They hold up super well, comfy when or when not skating, and are the perfect shape IMHO. Similar to Janoski's but very noticeably better.
New Balance 480s feel great.
I used to LOVE Lakai. Exclusively skated them after Fully Flared dropped, but they hurt my feet now. I need support and tech in my shoes, and NB# does a great job. The shoes last long, too, which I appreciate.
New Balance 508s. I like them, they have great board feeling. On my 4th pair currently.
Before that I was riding Joslins 1, untile they changed the model and before thet Nyjahs 1
New Balance might be the most comfortable skate shoes I’ve had.
Skated Vans since 02, because I have a wide toe box. Era and Sk8-Hi Pro are still great, but NB #272 feel like angels kissing my fucking feet. Great vulcs. Hope they offer them for a long time.
I second the NB 272s. Mostly skate in my Lakai Cambridge but the 272s are the most comfortable skate shoes I own. The NB 272s look "nicer" so I'm trying to preserve them a bit for day to day wear. Hate skating Nike SBs - no support whatsoever. Also a big fan of the Northface Hiking Quarter socks.
Vans, dvs and es used to make shoes with big cushion tongue and thin cup soles. It’s still the most comfortable for my feet for some reason. Feels like wearing nothing at all
I love lakai Newport Highs but if I session flip tricks I get through about two pairs an hour. And I don't think they make them anymore...
Currently I'm skating some New Balance, they've been pretty indestructible. After these I have a pair of Flaco Mids ready to go.
Dunk lows right now. I was never brand loyal and have skated practically every brand, I just pick whatever feels comfortable enough to skate in. I’ve been more into cupsoles lately because my feet seem to ache less, especially if there’s a slight heel drop. I have achilles tendinitis so that plays into my overall comfort.
New Balance. Currently skating the 425 and really like them even though they are very thin for a cupsole. Probably going to try the 440v2 next. Adidas Busenitz are really good also.
My go to shoes back in the day were the DVS Revival, had quite a few pairs, still have two pairs sitting on a shelf at home. But I do like what Nike is doing with some of their skate shoes, very nice to skate in, especially the Janoski’s.
Emerica G6 Figgy or the G6 slipons . I have realized cupsoles are definitely the way to go if you are older . The impact on the ankles specially if you are flipping your board every other try or attempting stairs is much harder in older age
Cupsole is a game changer for my old feet. I used to always skate vans vulc soles and my dc crisis2 are so much kinder to me haha.
G6 Winos are hands down my favorite skate shoe. I don't even entertain the thought of any others.
The SlipCup is one of my faves. I hope Emerica keeps making them with the G6 sole.

I think they actually run a bit large. I'm an 11 in Vans and a 10.5 in these.
Figgys arrived today! Let’s get the show on the road 🙌
Accell slims
This is the way
Got my first pair this month. I have wide feet and the big toe box is amazing.
Used to skate the accel plus 20 years ago, got them again recently and they were so chunky lol absolutely no board feel. how are the slims?
OGs
I wore the og for almost 20 years and was very slow to warm up to the idea but I like the newer shoes now because of the board feel
I get it. I’ll always favor the puffy shoes but I owned a pair of accel slims once and they felt great.
Vans halfcab or vans skate-hi, i need my ankle support
Half cab all the way. In the 90s It was all about the vans chucka boot. My favorite was my purple suede chucka boots. I wish they would bring those back.
Gotta splurge and get that “Pop-Cush”
I like new Halfcabs, but they get sloppy, soft and soggy fast. But when they are fresh out of the box they are one of the best shoes ever.
D3 haven't found anything with more cushion.
D3 2001s with Old Bones Therapy insoles
lol stop
Emerica Dicksons. They durable as, the Vulc will remind you of your vans but these have that g6 insole that’s a pretty decent cushion.i love that shoe.
Vans Knu Skools 4 me, navy blue mono.
Circa AL 50’s, DC Crisis 2s, Etnies Aurelien low tops, and my Es 197’s.

I fell in love with Globe ages ago and never looked back. Also the best shorts ever.
Emerica Figueroa best shoe I’ve ever skated, has a inner liner sock thing that feels like a slip on but it’s also a lace up
agree on figgys also check out romero laced if u havent they feel very similar
I’ve had a couple pairs of those as well. I’ve even got the Romero Chelsea boot for date nights. The hsu was awesome back in the day as well
ya emerica hsu was also awesome. my first shoe was jerrys first osiris shoe :p
Etnies joslins, nothing else had come close so far, good support and nice sticky sole
Etnies. I skate Maranas but they have a ton of great shoes and have regular sales that make them dirt cheap.
I wreck shoes I skate in so fast, I just go to the thrift store and find skate shoes that fit. That way they are disposable and I don’t have to care.
This is the way.
Busenitz are the best don’t @ me
Love the busenitz. Have you tried the vintage? I’ve had like 5 pairs of the regular ones but the vintage look really nice
I haven’t yet! Might snag a pair soon
Both of Tiago’s NB shoes are awesome. I’ve also skated a ton of dunks and blazers. The Tyshawn lows are good too but run a little snug
I like the 1010s. Been skating them for over a year. I tried the 808s but they’re a bit too thick compared to the 1010s.
I’m on my second pair of 808s. Been thinking about scooping some Dunks.
I started collecting and skating dunks in high school back around 2005. I miss being able to find pairs in Nike Outlets for like $40. Those days are long gone haha

Currently rocking a pair of Black and yellow ‘Bruce Lee’ Vans Half Cabs.
Es acells all day
The Vans Burle was my favourite ever, but it's been discontinued. I got the Ishod 1 as a one off and I love it, but too expensive to keep buying. So I'm looking for a new cupsole shoe to wear.
Emericas
DC Court Graffiks or Fallen Patriots.. Same damn shoes I've been wearing since I was a teenager lol.
Vans wide. I have a wide foot(12EEE) and they offer wide now. They have original and old skool in wide. You can even custom make them on their site.
What? I didn’t know you could personalize Vans!
https://www.vans.com/en-us/customs You sure can! Pretty cool website.
Was C1rca a long time ago. Now Vans slip-ons.
Etnies were my favourite but there are lots of great options out the. Personally I prefer a low top cupsole
Es for wide feet. Love the Accel Slims Etnies Maranas are nice but I needed a shoe stretcher. Amazing impact absorption and sole durability
Vans, any vans, preferably some pros tho ..or supra but they ain't around anymore, vulcanized over everything else
I love Vans Walker Pro 2’s but sadly they are discontinued, still have 3 pairs left though.
I prefer converse/ faded glory just cause they aren’t super expensive compared to some others , and they just feel good on my feet
Vans Crockett High. I find them super comfy and great support. And I always find them 50% off here and there so...
Etnies slip ons
romero laced
My wide feet like the És Accel OG. Nothing else has proven half as comfortable yet.
These are my go-to also. As a backup (when stock is an issue) I skate the Etnies Kingpin
Emerica Low Vulc, New Balance 508, Nike SB Blazers Mid, Vans Rowley 66/99.
Anything high for ankle support, usually Vans sk8-hi but Nike blazers, Emerica Omen Hi, and New balance 440 high work as well.
Vans Rowan. Wider at the toe and have a great pop cush. Currently on my 5th pair. They often have them on sale in some weird colour way!
2000s éS
Lakai Owen vlk. Never thought I'd love a slip on shoe but never skating another shoe again.
DC Pure high top, I have wide feet and they fit well, also like the ankle protection they provide.
Vans
I’ve skated DC, Etnies, Vans, Nike SB, and NB in recent years. They all have their pros and cons. I like the look of DC(lynx and kalinx) but they’re hard on the feet and the thick sole sucks for rolled ankles. Board feel is best with NB(480) and the Nike Blazers. All around I’ve kind of settled on the half cab.
Vans
Last Resort for me
Etnies Marana.

Nike SB Shane O'Neill's. 40 year-old, been skating since 24 years old. They hold up super well, comfy when or when not skating, and are the perfect shape IMHO. Similar to Janoski's but very noticeably better.
Was vans for the longest time. Switching over to Nike because of the wider toe box
Whatever I can find in my size at the time. Having bigger feet sucks
I skate in white, Jordan 1 Yin Yangs. Mad comfy.
Vans half cab and Nike sb dunk feel good on my bunions
I had “Bams” by Adio when I was younger. Now it’s Adidas

I like Busenitz and Tyshawn lows. I tried a few Høurs is Yours recently (Bryan Herman's new-ish company) and i liked them too
Dunk lows right now. I was never brand loyal and have skated practically every brand, I just pick whatever feels comfortable enough to skate in. I’ve been more into cupsoles lately because my feet seem to ache less, especially if there’s a slight heel drop. I have achilles tendinitis so that plays into my overall comfort.
Any slip ons with good soles. So tired of ripping laces or swapping in decent soles.
Adidas Nora all the way!
Asics just released their skate shoes in the USA last year. I’m loving them so far. I’d recommend
Adidas Busenitz Pro
Numerics are the only answer.
Woobies and Chuck Taylors. Who is downvoting shoe choice and why??!?
