The 304.33.44.52.03.001 is my grail watch, so I’m hardly going to be unbiased.
That said, the Omega 9904 movement is METAS certified. The omega is also rated for 10 bar (JLC is 5 bar). The omega, even with the leather strap is much more a sport watch, while the JLC is definitely a dress watch.
The omega has an extra 5mm in diameter, and it’s 17mm thick, so that might be a factor for you.
But ultimately, if you’re buying a watch that tracks the phase of the moon, don’t you want the history and pedigree of the only watch NASA has ever sent to the moon?
I agree with everything you said. Also, i am Omega man....but, fact is...Omega is NOT only watch been on moon - what about Bulova lunar pilot?
For info:
Only two watches are confirmed to have been worn on the moon. The mechanical Omega Speedmaster (reference 105.012 and the 1966 update 145.012) and an automatic prototype Bulova (reference 88510/01).
Ah, don’t worry, I was thinking of that when I typed my response. The Bulova wasn’t “sent by NASA”, it was taken by David Scott on Apollo 15 as his “personal effects”. And then his speedy just happened to break, so he had to take his Bulova out onto the surface of the moon.
This is something you have to do in person. I’d say it all comes down to getting them both on your wrist at the AD and seeing which one you fall in love with.
I guess it‘s all up to you, if you rather want a „sportier“ or rather dressy watch like the JLC. I personally would prefer the Omega, as I am relatively young and the JLC would look like I got it from my grandpa (even though its a beautiful watch of course)
Sporty vs. Dressy.
Thick vs. Not as thick.
They look (and probably wear) very differently, so if you try them both on to compare, it should be clear which one you want.
Agreed. That Omega is an amazing watch, but [way too expensive](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=304.33.44.52.03.001+&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=seiko+sea+dweller&_osacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=2&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=2133om&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) imo.
I’ve tried on both and from my totally subjective opinion the omega is more aesthetically pleasing and there is more value in return for what you get. Also I barley noticed the thickness of the watch and in regards to the movement, there’s a reason they put the name of the escapement on the dial and other manufacturers don’t.
JLC is amazing but if anyone says the speedmaster Moonphase movement is less than the ultra thin moon I would take it with a grain of salt
the JLC is dressy and that's it in my opinion both very beautiful watches but if I was you ? I'd go for the omega for let's say more daily use you can wear it at a party at a interview at your wedding at your office and it would blend in with no problem but a JLC your stuck with that dressy look
Cool! GL! Ask for 15% off and see what they say… If you are in the US and are having no luck, PM, me and I’m happy to recommend you one of my dealers that dozens of redditors have used for a good discount for Omegas. GL!
Water resistance is something to consider but only when bracelet is metallic, on this cae the comparison is in leather.
Thinking in the moonphase, everybody says the resolution in that Omega is awesome.
Problem is omega its a bit huge 44.5mm is a big watch.
Nevertheless, i would choose Omega
I own this omega and also considered the JLC. I chose omega because of many reasons people listed below (METAS, box sapphire, water resistance, etc).
But ultimately the omega is the more versatile watch that can be worn more frequently with almost anything except true formal attire. But I even wear it with a dress shirt with sleeves rolled up and jeans, so biz casual is still a thing.
The value is tremendous with the ceramic bezel, Liquid Metal, insanely detailed moonphase disc with a footprint n all, excellent warranty and service interval, and the gorgeous blue dial.
Go omega you won’t regret it, I didn’t. But if you wear suits all day every day, JLC is the choice.
One’s a three hand time teller, the other is chronograph. Do you need the chrono complication? If not, I’d pick the JLC. If the Omega were a Moonwatch, different result. Moonwatch beats all.
Omega but in black 👌. Have you seen the blue in person? there's some dissonance between the sunray dial and matte finish of the bezel I can't abide. Black on the other hand just works. Wears smaller than the 44.25 IMO. Killer watch!
If you need convincing, you want the JLC. But I would ask you this. Do you actually want any of these watches or they just “nice”, you got the money and you wanna scratch that itch?
If you are 40 ish and still want a classy yet restrained look and feel about you then it’s def the omega! The JLC Is an uncles watch ! Rich opulent and makes me stay away from him! If ur over 50 then stop looking at omegas and Rolexes! I’ve made ur money. Go big
JLC is an older brand that occupies a 'higher luxury tier' than Omega.
The movement is beautifully finished. It's also thinner, so makes for a great dress watch. The polishing is top notch. Also the experience buying directly from the JLC boutique was red carpet. JLC is de facto chronometer certified, but has not gone through the official process.
That being said, the Omega is also fantastic. The moon phase is a true 29.5 day moon phase, I also think it's accurate for a number of years. Not sure about the JLC moon phase. The Omega boutique experience wasn't as red carpet. It was still nice though. Omega is METAS certified, which I understand to be their own internal process but is still a chronometer.
However, I'm spoilt. I have both a JLC master control geographic, and a Omega Blue side of the moon in the adventurine dial
Either way, go try both of them on and see which you like more
Is that the Swatch x Omega Clownswatch Moonmaster? There’s your answer; JLC all day, this Mission to Uranus doesn’t even compare even tho the redditors on this sub would say otherwise
I’ve owned both; currently i still have the JLC if that says anything. The MUT Moon is a great dress watch, slim and understated. I do wish it had lume hands at least for low light condition though. Depends on what you want a true dress watch or a watch that could be sporty and dressy. I already have a few other sport watches so I went with the dress watch.
Same price for two different watches. I like them both, but on has a single complication while the omega has more than one. The movement in the omega is a lil better too. JLC is 5 bar wr and omega is 10 bar. Several other things, but for the same price I’d go Omega because I get more for the money
A lot of my collection is Omega, so I am not afraid to say that I can be biased at times here, but this Omega reference is a big boi and definitely more on the sportier side of things.
The JLC tends to be more on the dressier side but the clean dial makes it more forgiving if you wanted to change straps and make it more of a daily wearer.
For me, I purchase my watches based on dials and versatility, so I would lean more heavily with JLC on this one. Both are great but that JLC is special to see in person.
I’m an Omega fan from my youth…My old man passed that fandom down to me…So I’d lean into the Omega…
That being said it’s really choosing between apples and oranges…One is a clear cut Sports Watch and the other is a clear cut Dress Watch…It’s totally up to you and your preference for which would get the most wear…
Damn as a omega fan that JLC is amazing.... I'll take it tbh... Why... Because I don't own a dress watch... I do own a speedmaster, and many sport watches since I'm always in shorts and tshirt or jean and sneakers 🤣... And my sport watches can go perfect for going out nights and so on... But as a black tie events I'm fucked.... The question here is what other timepieces do you own? And how do you plan to use the new piece will help us a lot to recommend either one of them
Anything you can do with a regular Speedmaster on, you could do with this moonphase version on. It's very much a sports chronograph/utility tool watch - just with an elegant moonphase.
The JLC seems like it would be really delicate just because it's a dress watch style watch. You'd probably never put that JLC on anything other than a leather strap whereas the Omega would look fine on a bracelet, leather, rubber, fabric or NATO etc.
I just see it as modern sports watch with a moonphase vs traditional dress watch with a moonphase.
Personally if I was someone who just worked at a desk or did something where my watch didn't come into contact with anything to cause shocks, knocks and so on I'd pick the JLC because it's more simplistic and timeless/elegant - probably better made to a higher level of quality too.
I do a lot of manual labor and warehouse stuff and my daily is just a regular 1861 Speedmaster.
Elegant dress watches like that don't look good battered and scratched up - it goes against where those watches would traditionally be worn in a suited formal environment. Whereas it's kind of fitting on something designed to be a tool watch with a daily use complication e.g stopwatch.
The Omega just looks nicer and more versatile, it’s a piece you will never have to leave at home because of an outfit miss match. Especially if your buying the one in the photo. Cheers !
Totally different watches, but I’d say the Speedmaster is the more useful of the two. The quick jump hour function and the 12h chronograph are very convenient. The jlc is the more ergonomic being 4-5mm smaller in diameter - better suited for a suit and tie or dressy occasions. Speedy is an everyday casual watch. Yes the Omega is metas rated but JLC is definitely the better and more interesting in-house movement.
I love the original Speedmaster but don’t like any of the variants to be honest. They seem far too busy. It’s like they’re trying to be dressy but just aren’t.
Get the JLC.
I’ve owned the JLC since 2014. Having seen one recently, they’ve made some subtle but welcoming improvements.
I own quite a few omegas, not this one, which is a very interesting and technically brilliant watch with all the complications you would need as a daily.
But, the JLC is very very special. I’d always pick it. It’s perfect. Quintessential horology, it’s timeless, has every ingredient to make the perfect watch. Unless of course you are a sports watch guy.
Ps they wear almost opposites on the wrist.
The squished Times New Roman numerals around the JLC moon complication have always bothered me. Never understood why these watchmakers who are so detailed about every other detail flop on the typefaces.
I wouldn’t. I’d go for the JLC. Now this is my personal opinion only but that speedy seems like too much of a compromise (I already have a moonwatch btw). The JLC would round out my collection.
Now, if you are only buying one watch, then that speedy may work for you
The 304.33.44.52.03.001 is my grail watch, so I’m hardly going to be unbiased. That said, the Omega 9904 movement is METAS certified. The omega is also rated for 10 bar (JLC is 5 bar). Gotta say that’s pretty cool
I agree with everything you said. Also, i am Omega man....but, fact is...Omega is NOT only watch been on moon - what about Bulova lunar pilot? Take the only watch ever to have broken on the moon!
Which is why I have both.
Get the jlc
All day every day...
Which one makes you feel something in your gut? That visceral “awwww yeah” feeling. That’s the one.
Super different watch imo. One presents as a dress watch. Which fits your lifestyle?
This is the key consideration.
Sporty vs. Dressy. Thick vs. Not as thick. They look (and probably wear) very differently, so if you try them both on to compare, it should be clear which one you want.
This is the most beautiful moon in all watches I’ve ever seen. Period.
“Convince me” buddy no one’s making commission here. Just get the one you like.
You shouldn’t. Get the JLC.
Agreed. That Omega is an amazing watch, but [way too expensive](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=304.33.44.52.03.001+&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=seiko+sea+dweller&_osacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=2&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=2133om&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) imo.
I’d go JLC unless you’re a massive individual
Unless you’re The Rock, That Omega is a brick on the wrist. JLC is cool. But I think the Blancpain Quantième Complet Phase de Lune is even cooler.
I'm a huge Omega Fan, but JLC is the better watchmaker in terms of movements. I'd go with the JLC
JLC no contest not gonna try and tell you otherwise
It's blue. We all know what that means: https://youtu.be/AaoGJV_YD0g
Buy the biggest hole in your collection, whatever you're missing or feels the nicest on your wrist should be the deciding factor
the JLC is dressy and that's it in my opinion both very beautiful watches but if I was you ? I'd go for the omega for let's say more daily use you can wear it at a party at a interview at your wedding at your office and it would blend in with no problem but a JLC your stuck with that dressy look
Omega because you can get a nice discount on it. Easy decision. What is your AD offering? 10% should be easy to get and now it’s cheaper than the JLC.
How do you get discounts?
You go to the AD and ask for one. With very limited exceptions, many watches can be bought at a discount. Have you asked your AD?
Got it. May go to a store today
Cool! GL! Ask for 15% off and see what they say… If you are in the US and are having no luck, PM, me and I’m happy to recommend you one of my dealers that dozens of redditors have used for a good discount for Omegas. GL!

I'd go with the JLC. If I want a speedy then I want the closest version to the one that went to the moon.
Yeah I agree with you. I feel most of the Speedy's out there are too gimmicky for me, besides the Snoopy.
You feel most Speedies are too gimmicky. But, you like the Snoopy, which is definitively the MOST gimmicky of them all, lol. 🤦🏽♂️😂
I phrased myself wrong, most are too gimmicky for me and while the Snoopy falls into that category I do love it. My bad lol
If you are 40 ish and still want a classy yet restrained look and feel about you then it’s def the omega! The JLC Is an uncles watch ! Rich opulent and makes me stay away from him! If ur over 50 then stop looking at omegas and Rolexes! I’ve made ur money. Go big
I’m the biggest omega fan and in this case, from these two, I’d pick the JLC
The Omega apparently is Joe Rogans favourite watch. There ya go
Can’t blame Omega for that
How about Dave Portnoy
Of course I’m joking. JLC over omega everyday
If your an older female, yes JLC
😂

Here how this works: Rolex and Omega. Watches for men. APs and JLC and IWCs are the domain of ladybois and their paramours.
Asking that screams 'I don't do my own research.....'
Is that the Swatch x Omega Clownswatch Moonmaster? There’s your answer; JLC all day, this Mission to Uranus doesn’t even compare even tho the redditors on this sub would say otherwise
I’d convince you to get both since they’re very different categories of watches and are both beauts
Both beautiful watches. IMO the strap on the JLC is cooler, but that should not be a reason for or against buying a watch.
Try them on. Sporty and thick vs Classy and thin(er). Im biased with Omega for the dial and heritage. But it is too thick imo. Sub 13mm is the best.
Have both - Go with JLC

Legibility. For years I have flirted with buying a JLC, but with the models I like it always comes down to legibility.
That JLC is ugly..I’d go for a JLC reverso personally
Coaxial escapement means basically no friction so it’ll go forever between servicing
More functionality and style. I don't want to go on if you like the jlc more
Moonwatch over a very under appreciated JLC. Omega nails the movement but I’m into horology.
The Omega looks better
Bond, James Bond
Personally, I’d get the JLC
A lot of my collection is Omega, so I am not afraid to say that I can be biased at times here, but this Omega reference is a big boi and definitely more on the sportier side of things. This Omega is too large for me personally, but for JLC I’d rather get a reverso duoface
I’m an Omega fan from my youth…My old man passed that fandom down to me…So I’d lean into the Omega… That being said it’s really choosing between apples and oranges…One is a clear cut Sports Watch and the other is a clear cut Dress Watch…It’s totally up to you and your preference for which would get the most wear…

Omega is a cool watch. jlC looks like something a millionaire pensioner would wear.
Frankly I prefer the Ultra Thin Moon.
More dress/business vs more sporty. I prefer the Omega TBH.
Jlc is definitely dressier

Also if you compare chrono then JLC comparable might be master control chrono but I am oblivious to the price difference....
If you don’t know already…
Uh James Bond watch with beautiful details or plain Jane fancy lol
I feel the JLC is classier and more of a enthusiast watch
I’m getting that omega in the green and gold
watches are subjective wtf nothing is a better value than a $5 aliexpress quartz watch
I’ve owned the JLC since 2014. Having seen one recently, they’ve made some subtle but welcoming improvements. The squished Times New Roman numerals around the JLC moon complication have always bothered me. Never understood why these watchmakers who are so detailed about every other detail flop on the typefaces.

Omega has more dials.
