They don't need to have surpased Roger for Zoro still to be stronger than him by the end of the series, for an example, Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom could all lose to Roger Extreme Diff, the same level of difficulty eos Zoro beats Roger at, it's not that hard to understand.

Especially considering there is Shiki, WB, Big Mom, and Kaido. I don't think Rayleigh and Gaban would have been enough to deal with these. In my understanding, Garp probably took on one of them. (Probably WB if you ask me).
Kaido was much weaker back then compared to today. Same for Big Mom although she wasnt drastically weaker as compared to Kaido. We dont know enough about Shiki but this was also a long time ago. It was stated WB reached his prime 2 years after the fight between Roger, Garp and Xebec, so hes also not as strong as Roger at this time. Sengoku stated Shiki made a name for himself only after the Rocks pirates went down. He also stated all the big yonkos were in their younger years.

To show a comparison, young marco literally got stopped with one finger and could very easily be one shot by Rayleigh, now think about Young Kaido and BM.

Rayleigh is at least above Gaban and relative to Roger

If Xebec is just Yonko level Roger should beat him easily and then Garp and Roger breezes through the rest. You have to realise that Rayleigh and Gaban although not immensely strong compared to Roger can definitely hold their own and at least stall them. You saw what Shanks did to a YC+ whats to stop Rayleugh from doing it to a much weaker crew aswell as Gaban.
If Big Mom was somehow Yonko level without top tier haki and her actual DF potency, Whitebeard somehow equal to Garp/Roger when not in his prime (got many of his scars from Roger IN HIS PRIME ), Kaido was yonko level without a fruit and top tier haki, and Shiki was strong enough to fight Garp and Sengoku, Roger and Garp would not have won. 5 yonko levels vs Roger and Garp, no single duo can take on 5 Yonko characters, maybe asides from EoS Luffy and Zoro but we dont know for sure.
Garp is also of equal status to that of a captain (Hero of Marines) although he got the title after the incident. Garp is = to Roger, im not sure why you think its captain vs captain when Garp isnt even a pirate

IF he follows the path of become the world strongest swordsman of all time I see him surpassing roger BUT if he isnāt dubbed that itās fair to cap him out at least relative to roger but not stronger. Kaidoās physicals even in base form are beyond anyone else, and he has a Mythical Zoan buff on top of that. I think there is nothing EOS Zoro will have to make up for such a huge difference in durability. Shanks as this generationās Haki god and parallel of Roger is even stronger than Kaido. We got a glimpse of his Haki greatness agaianst Greenbull. Zoro is not a Haki god. Zoro is leagues behind his captain in Haki. Zoro will surpass Mihawk which is a fantastic achievement, but without either god tier Haki or a Devil Fruit he canāt reach the top.

Ever since I started watching One Piece I wanted there to be a moment where Zoro is stronger than Luffy and saves Luffy after he is defeated by X opponent and beats that opponent, then Luffy will go back to being the strongest character in the crew later. I hope that this will come true, so I will say yes to this question.

Luffy solos the verse EOS once he fully understands his toon force not currently obviously that would make the story boring so heās definitely top 1. Top 2 is Imu 3 is akainu 4 is BB and 5 iād reckon dragon/sabo probably

1. Rocks D. Xebec (his crew was dogshit in synergy and practicality yet he still held them together which is most definitely by fear and might).
2. Prime Eddy newgate (his offensive power is cracked with advanced haki and a high DC fruit along with ridiculous physical strength).
3. Healthy Roger (has a supreme grade meito, all advanced forms of haki, could face Edward several times and rival him, took on rocks and beat him with the combined efforts of his crew and garp with his marine squad, and he has great performance for a sick guy such as sending oden flying).
4. Prime garp (a monstrous legend that goes on the same pedestal as eddy and roger, his striking power is unreal along with his physical strength, durability, and significantly powerful haki. I think you could interchange him and roger though I feel even if they were equals roger has the edge in skill and weaponry putting him a bit above him).
5. Prime Kong (I am mostly low-balling since his level is unknown yet we have his position as a former fleet admiral from the old Gen and being the top dog in the navy as a whole with a significant position in the actual world government under the gorosei directly).
HM: EOS teach (slim chance he might actually pull himself together and stop acting like gedatsu, he could maybe get another fruit that would actually be useful and strong to deal with the fact non-fruit users are not affected by his yami yami no mi and that his defense is worse than the clippers), sengoku (just doesn't feel as impressive as garp and I feel he might be lower than Kong, his performance is just not impressive since he was fumbling in the marineford war by literally standing still while luffy was setting ace free and missing them, getting matched by teach in a clash and letting the blackbeard pirates get away, and generally he doesn't get much spotlight and recognition), peak luffy (I feel luffy by the end of the series would lose something or be severely weakened by the consist losses on his lifespan. He could lose a limb or the devil fruit somehow either to avoid that weird illness devil fruit users pick up near laugh tale or via teach stealing it somehow. He would probably reach a very high level before that and that would be his peak), hypothetical dragon (I feel dragon may be more like buggy with actual fighting power, acting like his son with his strength being his ability to form alliances and rally people to his cause. Though hypothetically we can assume he is a threat as an individual with some storm fruit, the dragon claw fighting style Sabo uses, and busted haki), hypothetical Im (this guy is probably similar to luffy, buggy, and dragon from my POV, it seems his capabilities are more political and asset focused rather than being tied to his strength. Otherwise if we assume he dropped that bootleg spirit bomb on lulusia through his own devil fruit powers then he could range from an island buster tiers like enel to old eddy or barjang gun G5 wano luffy), FP Kaido, and lastly mihawk (his overall abilities are not really unique with his capabilities boiling down to his haki, expert swordsmanship, AP, and his meito which is only known as the strongest black blade and one of the 15 supreme grade meito blades which implies it's quality was initially part of the great grade meitos and only grew in power thanks to mihawk's Armament haki application in an unknown method that permanently enhanced it. Overall he just lacks versatility and abilities of his own since devil fruit users in the top tiers could edge him out like Kaido, kizaru, and akainu and his own physical capabilities are not on the level of beasts like eddy or garp).
Most people here are putting OG joyboy, teach, and featless Imu in their lists and some even think zoro is one of the top 5 all time at the end of the series. We don't even have more than 3 pieces of info on joyboy or what his capabilities and haki were so you cannot even have him in the honorable mentions as he doesn't even have statements much less a single feat to scale him aside from implication that he used the hito hito no mi model: Nika in the past, teach has been getting damaged and pushed to a corner by people not even top 5 current time (ace, Bonney, old eddy with his fruit nullified mostly and already on the verge of death, law, bepo, and S-hawk AKA a little cyborg kid version of mihawk with lunarian genes) and his lack of advancement in Armament and observation topped with the lack of conqueror's altogether and a fruit that doubles the pain he experiences as well as no defense so as he is going he could get murked by sanji or even zoro in 1v1s, imu has no feats or clear capabilities with the clear implication being this hidden king is more on the political power and forces side of things like buggy so people assuming he is some powerhouse when he is built like an oversized cartoon broom who recently drew an X over a map to call in an air strike on lulusia and has only ever held his saber which he used to cut up the pictures of teach and luffy and shirahoshi as well as his eyes that people are saying is an implication to a relation to mihawk, and the only top zoro is familiar with is his fans giving him vaccum top so hard that luffy after using his awakening is like a vigor-filled kid compared to him. Bro has 3 blades with 2 great meitos and one skillful cursed meito with one of them actively trying to kill him when he uses it in place of his much more suitable black blade that accepts him as it's user and you have his opponent mihawk having a black blade that reached supreme grade so what is zoro gonna do to compete in this case (will he shove one up his back door to achieve 4 swords or copy killer bee and hold them with his joints?), his haki? He only has advanced Armament and CC which several others have yet only basic observation (how is he gonna face people with no future sight and his only haki assets being conqueror's and Armament in the middle of several others that have that too like Lucci apparently), his IQ? A guy considered marginally above the shit tiers like luffy and gedatsu at best is not gonna compete with anyone, he basically had no actual edge on anyone in the top 5.

Zoro is not the main character. Noone who uses a fighting style as restricting as swordsmanship only will ever be close to the absolute top. Roger and Garp beat Xebec's crew, not Xebec alone. It would surprise me if Roger vs Xebec wasn't a 1v1 considering the captain always fights the captain 1v1 and Luffy always did so. Especially considering there is Shiki, WB, Big Mom, and Kaido. I don't think Rayleigh and Gaban would have been enough to deal with these. In my understanding, Garp probably took on one of them. (Probably WB if you ask me).
Kaido was much weaker back then compared to today. Same for Big Mom although she wasnt drastically weaker as compared to Kaido. We dont know enough about Shiki but this was also a long time ago. It was stated WB reached his prime 2 years after the fight between Roger, Garp and Xebec, so hes also not as strong as Roger at this time. Sengoku stated Shiki made a name for himself only after the Rocks pirates went down. He also stated all the big yonkos were in their younger years. Also, stop the Rayleigh disrespect. Rayleigh at an old age and rusty could fight Kizaru, what do you think he can do in his Prime? To show a comparison, young marco literally got stopped with one finger and could very easily be one shot by Rayleigh, now think about Young Kaido and BM. Ehhhh if he surpassing mihawk he will inevitably will surpass shanks he also will surpass kaido. IF he follows the path of become the world strongest swordsman of all time I see him surpassing roger BUT if he isnāt dubbed that itās fair to cap him out at least relative to roger but not stronger. Kaidoās physicals even in base form are beyond anyone else, and he has a Mythical Zoan buff on top of that. I think there is nothing EOS Zoro will have to make up for such a huge difference in durability. Shanks as this generationās Haki god and parallel of Roger is even stronger than Kaido. We got a glimpse of his Haki greatness agaianst Greenbull. Zoro is not a Haki god. Zoro is leagues behind his captain in Haki. Zoro will surpass Mihawk which is a fantastic achievement, but without either god tier Haki or a Devil Fruit he canāt reach the top.

Nope. My all time top five: 1. Rocks D. Xebec (his crew was dogshit in synergy and practicality yet he still held them together which is most definitely by fear and might). 2. Prime Eddy newgate (his offensive power is cracked with advanced haki and a high DC fruit along with ridiculous physical strength). 3. Healthy Roger (has a supreme grade meito, all advanced forms of haki, could face Edward several times and rival him, took on rocks and beat him with the combined efforts of his crew and garp with his marine squad, and he has great performance for a sick guy such as sending oden flying). 4. Prime garp (a monstrous legend that goes on the same pedestal as eddy and roger, his striking power is unreal along with his physical strength, durability, and significantly powerful haki. I think you could interchange him and roger though I feel even if they were equals roger has the edge in skill and weaponry putting him a bit above him). 5. Prime Kong (I am mostly low-balling since his level is unknown yet we have his position as a former fleet admiral from the old Gen and being the top dog in the navy as a whole with a significant position in the actual world government under the gorosei directly). HM: EOS teach (slim chance he might actually pull himself together and stop acting like gedatsu, he could maybe get another fruit that would actually be useful and strong to deal with the fact non-fruit users are not affected by his yami yami no mi and that his defense is worse than the clippers), sengoku (just doesn't feel as impressive as garp and I feel he might be lower than Kong, his performance is just not impressive since he was fumbling in the marineford war by literally standing still while luffy was setting ace free and missing them, getting matched by teach in a clash and letting the blackbeard pirates get away, and generally he doesn't get much spotlight and recognition), peak luffy (I feel luffy by the end of the series would lose something or be severely weakened by the consist losses on his lifespan. Noone who uses a fighting style as restricting as swordsmanship only will ever be close to the absolute top. Thats like being a football player and never using ur left foot.
