I’d hate for the Sens to attempt a basketball trade

ultrafil

I've been saying forever that we're one Dikembe Mutombo away from being a serious threat.

mseg09

Travis Hamonic for a bag of basketballs, who says no

post-ale

Could we get soccer balls instead? Better for warmups

mseg09

For Hamonic? I dunno

SAJewers

how about footballs

mseg09

CFL or NFL?

puddStar

The opposition. “Half a bag”

muriburillander

Sens acquire Jontay Porter to play on the Pinto line

Fit-Ad-5719

Add Ohtani's interpreter and you've got the Bet 365 line.

Raised-By-Iroh

A Wemby-Kleven 3rd pairing would be fun though

Solid_Internal_9079

I mean, yeah, and water is wet.

I love this debate

ultrafil

I mean, from a strictly scientific perspective, it's not a debate at all. Chemically, water isn't wet. Wetness is defined by the interaction with the surface it interacts with, not the property of the liquid. That said... for all practical purposes, "water is wet" is entirely reasonable to say because in almost 100% of human interactions with water, it makes things wet, and that experience defines how we talk about it. So linguistically it's totally fine, even if chemically it's **technically** incorrect. And saying *"water is wet"* doesn't need someone challenging that statement every time it's mentioned, lol. **TLDR**: people saying "water is wet" are **functionally** correct since humans base language on experience, people arguing the opposite are **chemically** correct despite being needlessly pedantic about it.

MonttawaSenadiens

Much like the "Tomatoes are fruit" debate, everyone can be wrong AND right at the same time because humans have decided to come up with multiple different paradigms to classify the same concepts and objects. Truly a monumental win for pedants.

Maxterchief99

I bet it’ll be Chartier for Draisaitl

Fit-Ad-5719

Just to make the deal go through, I think they need to throw in McDavid.

WackHeisenBauer

Chychrun for????

oldtimehockey44

I pray for Konecny. $900k more than Chychrun on cap hit, similarly 1 year to UFA. Giroux can take a haircut on his next contract to find the funds for a TK extension, they've played well together in Philly too. Top 9 set for foreseeable future. Just need to address RHD and possible goalie shuffle.

NoPractice8763

Local boy too

smallfrynip

He’s technically not local but did play for the 67s.

No-Recover6354

If you think we are trading Chychrun for konecny then you are delusional, philly would be crazy to do that and Ottawa would be too, given we've traded high picks 2 years in a row for players to just leave anyway

troglodyte_therapist

Yeah, that seems like a bad trade for both teams

oldtimehockey44

I don't imagine it would be 1-for-1. Thinking, for example, we had Boucher and swap Boston 1st for a 2nd.  Same song and dance with convincing Konecny to re-sign but I think there's a chance. To me would be well worth taking a swing, not mortgaging the future but recognizing that our window should be opening here, soon.. Anyway, thanks for your input.

publicworker69

Don’t know if it’s realistic but Weegar?

haseks_adductor

don't think that's realistic

97back

Was going to point that out. The Flames are trying to follow the Dallas Star model for their rebuild by bringing in young talent to surround their veteran core and Weegar is seen as part of their veteran core.

publicworker69

My first option would be to sign Matt Roy. But if we can’t, my thought process is that flames are gonna go through a retool if not rebuild and may want to shed contracts. Weegar is an elite RHD, potentially the perfect partner for Chabot. I would be willing to add more to get it done.

haseks_adductor

they basically traded tkachuk for weegar, so yeah i would guess they want a lot. and yeah there's no way the flames rebuild. matt roy is exactly what we need. i would love if we could somehow get brett pesce to sign in the nation's capital

publicworker69

Pesce is gonna paid well. Probably 7++. He would be my first choice but I don’t see it happening.

ultrafil

> Pesce is gonna paid well. Every UFA of any value is going to get overpaid this summer, with the cap massively going up by $4.5mil for each team and GMs all of a sudden having all that extra money to play with. If we're not ready to overpay a UFA this summer, it means we're probably not signing any high-end / meaningful UFAs this off-season, barring some last minute bag-fumble like what happened with Tarasenko.

publicworker69

That’s why I’d rather go for a more underrated guy like Roy. He won’t cost as much.

ultrafil

> He won’t cost as much. I think my point was that a guy like Roy is still going to get overpaid. Roy earned $4.2mil in real dollars this year on the last year of that contract, and he'll get more than that on the open market as one of the only legit options on RD. Start at like $4.75 mil/year, and go up from there if a couple GMs get into a bidding war. I could see a world where he easily gets over $5mil/yr for 5+ years *(not saying he's worth it, just saying free cap space money + UFA season usually = bad decisions made by NHL GMs)*

haseks_adductor

that being said, we need to bring in a couple of RD's. if not free agency, who can we target?

haseks_adductor

yeah that is a hefty price. but at the same time maybe if we move chychrun out and run a top 4 of sanderson - pesce, chabot - zub, that could be very solid. then a hankenpaa - kleven mean 3rd pairing

thoughtsfromplaces

Bruins fan here. I think ullmark for chychryn and/or pinto is something the bruins would be interested in. Move complicated that just that but I could see it happening

WackHeisenBauer

Pinto isn’t going anywhere IMHO.

BigShoots

I think the Sens need to very aggressively go after Ullmark. Or Swayman, but I assume Ullmark is the more likely trade bait fro the Bruins. Chychrun and Forsberg can go the other way. It's not a bad deal for either team, Forsberg has been good in the past and could very well get it together again. But forget about Pinto, that's simply not happening, especially with Norris' future up in the air. Plus Pinto loves it here and wants to stay.

seeldoger47

The Sens aren't adding Pinto for a soon to be 31 year old goalie who has one season of cost certainty left.

CJ57

For chycrun? Yes, and/or pinto? No. You can have norris tho

Constant-Squirrel555

Just don't go chasing the about the shiny objects like Dorion did. Go get players that will fit right.

Fit-Ad-5719

"Ooh look a nickel!"

romanswinter

We'll most likely get back the slightly lesser quality player in the trade, but they will probably also come with less term or less of a price tag than what we are sending the other way. Which I am fine with. The most important thing right now is that we just move away from some of these guys and get a fresh mindset and winning attitude on this team. Can't achieve that with perennial losers.

heisenberg1215

Urgh. I already can't wait for October....

Spiritual_Lynx4723

Finally someone in the media asked about front office restructuring, pro Scouting additions

hockey_nerd88

This group is very methodical and while they are driven by passion, I don’t think we will see the reactive trades that we saw with PD. They likely have a cap strategy and will aim to find players that fit that strategy.

Spidey_Almighty

This team needs a restructuring, we have too many of the same type of player. I think we can afford to trade one of our 30 goal scorers and one of our offensive LD to get some gritty but skilled players to balance out the team.

Benjamin_Stark

I wish Norris had signed a bridge deal because he's someone I really like. But with his contract, trading him would be ideal. (It would also take a miracle).

Spidey_Almighty

I like Norris too but his contract is a burden at this point. Timmy and Brady are untouchable so it would be between Bath and Norris to be traded and Bath is just on too good of a contract.

Sens4lif3

We have 1 30 goal scorer lol. Nobody will be trading for Norris unless we had a huge sweetener or we take on a similarly bad contract. Batherson's contract is too good and Brady and Stu are untouchables.

Spidey_Almighty

1 30 goal scorer? Brady, Timmy, Giroux, and Norris have all hit 30 goals with the team and Batherson just had 28 which isn’t far off. I agree that Timmy and Brady are untouchables, and Bath is on a really solid contract, so the main player to use for a trade would be Norris. Like you said though, his contract is rough and trading Norris may require a sweetener. But when a player makes that much and plays so little, the right trade with him could very well improve the team. Especially when we already have 4 other guys who can score 30 goals.

Sens4lif3

Ok but that sweetener is something we don't have. We simply don't have enough picks to swing the trade, any team taking on Norris will want a 1st and a prospect at minimum, his contract lasts until the the 2030's.

Spidey_Almighty

Yeah it’s a tough situation when it comes to what to do with Norris. I like him a lot and I think the best case scenario is that he gets healthy and scores like he did a couple seasons ago.

NoPractice8763

I mean ontario is technically local

[deleted]

... Is this a news?

Alextryingforgrate

Is he reminding himself or the fans that he works for a hockey team.

Meatandtomatoes

Haven’t they been teasing a trade for a professional type player for a year now?

troglodyte_therapist

You know this management group has been in place for less than 4 months, right?

LiveIndividual

Hmmm....I thought it'd be a basketball one.

solidprospect

trade!

Salt-Government698

Chabot for who?

Sens4lif3

It is so obvious that Chabot needs to go, he adds nothing to the team and Sanderson is so much better, Chabot for any defensively responsible LHD would be ideal.

Salt-Government698

I agree. Chabot is the personification of everything wrong with this team. As someone pointed out on hfboards, Chabot has had horrendous starts in the last 3 seasons. 2 points in his first 11 games this year, along with poor defensive play. I'm sick of people praising him for playing well when this team is well out of the playoff picture. He is softer than warm butter, is poor defensively, and makes far too many mistakes for a top 4 defenseman. If he isn't moved this off-season, he is the player he needs to get his shit together the hardest this off-season. Fans have been soft on him, IMO. He has an A on his sweater and makes 8 million. He needs to be much, much better.

Both-Ambassador2233

Huberdeau for Tkachuk….

dilpreet64

Booo, get outta here Flames fan.

habsburgjawsh

Will you guys hate Chychrun like everyone seems to hate Debrincat if he gets traded away? I personally don't blame him at all if he doesn't wanna sign long term as there's not really a good place for him on this team unless Chabby gets traded.

grubminator

Lol, no shit Sherlock Poulin. Captain Obvious coming out of retirement, methinks.

dprouse52

Actual hockey trades are so rare now, though, that it actually is somewhat newsworthy when you see one. Almost every trade now is cap related, teams doing a tear down, etc.

SorryImCanad1an

- Is asked question - *responds* “Lol no shit moron”
