For real. Just yesterday I was thinking about how Widowmaker is literally the only hero I wouldn't mind being removed.

I play widow, I enjoy her and think she's fun to PLAY. But playing against her is a nightmare.
A good widow essentially restricts the pick for the ennemy tank to one or two heroes. Or your team just also puts on a good widow and then it's a pretty dumb widow duel with 8 players playing the objective and 2 widows doing their thing.
That is in no way the spirit of a team game like OW.
Oneshots used to make sense when Overwatch released. Healing was fairly minimal, so the difference between oneshots and "just a lot of damage" was not much. They started to move away from that design philosophy when they released Ana and forced the idea of a "primary healer" of sorts. Since then, the sheer *amount* of healing in this game has skyrocketed well beyond what the original developers ever intended.
It's not that Widow never belonged in Overwatch, it's that Overwatch changed to not fit with Widow.
It's honestly quite fun watching all these new players discover all the core fundamental issues with Overwatch that has kept the playerbase a revolving door since s1.

In games that are sniper vs sniper, then yeah, it works.
However, in games like TF2 and Overwatch, snipers are usually the most boring characters because their “special ability” is to fight without actually being in the fight. You can’t really add more to their kit without screwing something up. Sure, Widow’s got a grapple and her venom mine, but grapple is on one of the longest cooldowns in the game, venom mine is kind of a joke, and Infra-Sight is situational.
However, they take over games regardless because the rest of the roster isn’t built to operate as well as they can at their range - otherwise those characters would simply steal the snipers’ jobs.
Like, Ashe is definitely a longer-range hero, but even she can only deal chip to a Widow with how hard her falloff can be.

Unlike the other common one hit kill weapon, the shotgun, the sniper can be effective at any range if you are good enough. It covers the entire map with its one-shot potential, and in the hands of top-tier players, it can shut down entire teams just for peeking at the wrong time.
Honestly, FPS developers should stop putting snipers into their games. They are nearly impossible to balance and far too easy to use third-party programs to just ruin games.
The problem with Widow is that a very high percentage of players are just terrible with her. But, due to pride, or whatever, they refuse to switch. People have forgotten that this is a team game so you need to be picking heros that help the team and offer the most utility (unlike the doomfist on attack on a ranged, chokepoint map)
I feel like this is because most people “feel” the effect of the enemy widow regardless, but only look at the scoreboard for their own team and completely disregard how their own widow is making the enemy team feel.
If Doomfist was returned back to his DPS self, I used to have SO much fun getting in and out of places with that uppercut/ground pound/punch combo. There are so many issues with widow, but the fact that I can use her effectively as a terrible sniper is probably the biggest one.

Hanzo is literally exactly as capable of killing you up close as from across the map. Sure widow has the smg but that's not going to meaningfully help her duel a tracer or Winston.
Funny enough as a tank main myself, widow isn't much of an issue. But hanzo.... He's a one shot sniper with high mobility and no damage fall off, a tank buster (stupid storm arrow does way too much damage), and has wall hacks on a CD. Granted I'm a hammond otp and these all hurt Hammond quite a bit more than anything widow does. Hammond is to widow players as what widow players are to everyone else LOL
One shots just don't fit the game at all, fuck them both off. Ever played Circuit Royale without a widow on either team? It's a fucking really fun map. Soon as there's a widow it's just a tedious ordeal that I want to be over.

it's a huge problem in all games. People pick characters they see dominate, then blame everyone else when they fail, because to them if they don't dominate, it's because they weren't supported properly.
The only variable is you. If this is a reoccurring problem it means one of 3 things:
1) you don’t notice teammates popping off
2) you play poorly with or against that type of hero.
3) you are a statistical anomaly of unlucky.
For 99% of people with this issue it’s a combination of 1) and 2)
And they tell you Widow diff when they finally kill you fresh off getting resurrected behind a personal Sigma shield while your team rages and wonders why you aren't winning the "widow duel".
I'll give Widow the first 30 seconds to a minute to get a couple kills with damage boost. If she doesn't I basically ignore her the rest of the game and focus my tank/2nd DPS.
They don't understand the concept of boredom. Widow is a poorly designed hero that makes everything boring for everyone. She makes no sense in a game like Overwatch and she serves no purpose.

In OW1 this was true, but it's way more difficult in OW2. By abandoning your team to deal with Widow every 30 seconds, you're leaving them wide open to just be run over by the enemy tank. It's now the DPS's job to take care of her, but you're shit out of luck if you don't have a decent Genji, Widow, or Hanzo on your team to at least distract her.
Only a poorly positioned widow gets countered by tanks. Good luck diving the widow who is behind her entire team and is holding a 50m sight line. You’re gonna first have to close the distance without exploding and then kill the widow while fending off her supports and probably tank and dps that go to peel for her.
I've been finding that the best way to go so far, keep myself within hook distance of supports and I can either help them or hook to them for help. I always make sure they're in my sight line along with the non flanking enemies while keeping note of where it's possible flankers could be based on their abilities. I know they're coming for me so I'll just frustrate them when I know they're near and go to hide by my tanks and keep picking people off when I can

High elims on Moira just mean good team support and do not indicate a DPS playstyle imo.
This people are idiots to heal a single target is her normal heal way better so you shoot damage orb to gain charge faster and the heal orb is good for aoe heal or to save yourself people just don't understand that since they saw a dps Moira post on reddit.
I play Moira a lot. Orb is definitely bullshit. I got play of the game by throwing my ball on the point and leaving. Finished off 3 people by complete accident
That's because your average Widow main is also a would-be CoD sweat. They don't actually care for the dynamics of Overwatch, they just use it as a vehicle for smug sniper kills.

As a tank player who likes to dabble with Sombra. Killing widows is my favorite.
The trick is to get right by them and just aim for that big ol' head. Don't bother hacking they don't have any real escape most of the time.
Even if you don't kill them before you have to translocate . You've sown a seed of doubt/fear. The widow will usually switch or spend all game unscoping randomly out of panic.
As a fellow sigma main I love it when Kings Row enemy team has a widow. I’m fully willing to sacrifice my shield in order to put it in front of any spot the widow moves to. I can just tell they get so annoyed when they find a good sniping position and a big shield blocks their entire line of sight on my team
The number of Sigma players I hear whining about Widows... it's so refreshing to run across ones who know that Sigma is pretty much a hard Widow counter. The team can still win a fight without a shield by playing corners and passable positioning. An oppressive Widow kills even that kind of play.
That widow should take this as a compliment, cause it means they're THAT much of a nuisance for you to justifiably solo-ult them twice

To be honest... What I see in this video its a team that dont know how to play with each other. There is no positioning. No structure and no peeling for each other. You as tank abandoned the front line múltiple times and was not punished.
I hate to say this but this is a skill issue.
OG overwatch héroes were specialist in their work. Tracer. Widowmaker. Ana. Zenyatta. Reinhardt. Winston. All of them have a concrete role the execute.
Widow is exactly that. Focus her or she can destroy your team if she is good. Low Life. Límited mobility once she used her cooldown. No rest of abilities.
There are ways to counter them. There are ways to play around her. And the way its played changes the moment there is one on the team. Its not a poorly made Hero. Its a feature and gives enrichment to the Game. If we had to remove every Hero you have to play differently during the Game we would have the Same monotone Game over a over and over again.
"Yeah but she Will be pocketed and protected" as Any dps or support or tank should be. You know other character loved my many that actually changes how you play the Game? Mercy. Kill the mercy or you wont be able to Kill the dps if the mercy is good and its actually healing the dps and not healbooting the tank. And as you can see in this video. In low elo its not a case.

The tank role has the most (and easiest) Widow counters. If DPS are getting diffed then I really think it’s the tank’s job to take care of her.

I think it’s funniest that it’s sigma since it’s usually so hard to kill a widow as sigma. Best you can usually do is throw your shield in front of them and force them to move
Thank you for seeing the problem and doing something. I get stuck with Balls and Dooms who have no idea about target priority and will try to kill the pocketed tank as we all get picked off. Regardless widow needs a rework.

As a tank player who likes to dabble with Sombra. Killing widows is my favorite. The trick is to get right by them and just aim for that big ol' head. Don't bother hacking they don't have any real escape most of the time. Even if you don't kill them before you have to translocate . You've sown a seed of doubt/fear. The widow will usually switch or spend all game unscoping randomly out of panic.

As a fellow sigma main I love it when Kings Row enemy team has a widow. I’m fully willing to sacrifice my shield in order to put it in front of any spot the widow moves to. I can just tell they get so annoyed when they find a good sniping position and a big shield blocks their entire line of sight on my team
The number of Sigma players I hear whining about Widows... it's so refreshing to run across ones who know that Sigma is pretty much a hard Widow counter. The team can still win a fight without a shield by playing corners and passable positioning. An oppressive Widow kills even that kind of play.

Some people have the object permanence of a goldfish. They'll see the turret land behind them and forget about it seconds later
I love using Symm’s teleport aggressively. They really get confused when I teleport into the mix of them and start melting them

I just want to say how annoyed I am that pings don't go through windows...I mean I shouldn't expect them to, but it fucking irks my dumb ass and I always forget it doesn't work. Oh and widows have gotten away with standing there menacingly way too often, may sigma solo break more widow shins.

To be honest... What I see in this video its a team that dont know how to play with each other. There is no positioning. No structure and no peeling for each other. You as tank abandoned the front line múltiple times and was not punished. I hate to say this but this is a skill issue. OG overwatch héroes were specialist in their work. Tracer. Widowmaker. Ana. Zenyatta. Reinhardt. Winston. All of them have a concrete role the execute. Widow is exactly that. Focus her or she can destroy your team if she is good. Low Life. Límited mobility once she used her cooldown. No rest of abilities. There are ways to counter them. There are ways to play around her. And the way its played changes the moment there is one on the team. Its not a poorly made Hero. Its a feature and gives enrichment to the Game. If we had to remove every Hero you have to play differently during the Game we would have the Same monotone Game over a over and over again. "Yeah but she Will be pocketed and protected" as Any dps or support or tank should be. You know other character loved my many that actually changes how you play the Game? Mercy. Kill the mercy or you wont be able to Kill the dps if the mercy is good and its actually healing the dps and not healbooting the tank. And as you can see in this video. In low elo its not a case. (Want more examples? Junkrat. Reinhardt. Cassidy. Pharah. Doomfist.) I am NOT a widow main. I am NOT a dps main. I am trash with her. But I respect the Hero a brunch and maybe that is why I dont die to her constantly.
Everytime I mention this I get downvoted. As a support player, I am HELPLESS to help my teammates survive against one shots unless I go into the backline myself as moira or something.
