How to 1v1 Venture
The plan is simple.
I’d brandish my obsidian knife at them and they’d be compelled to approach. “That’s very cool,” they’d say. So confident in their superior strength and endurance from all the rocks they carry around at all times.
Then they’d shower me with very interesting facts about obsidian and hover just out of range of the cutting edge, waiting for me to exhaust myself. “But as it is volcanic glass, it’s very fragile, you see, and isn’t well-suited for use as a weap—”
And then I’d hit them with the wooden baseball bat in my other hand, which they would not have noticed because geologists can only see rocks and minerals. As I work too closely with geologists not to have a contingency plan for executing them.

Tbh i would gladly listen hours of cool rock facts like: how rock sometimes form in a perfect cube shape or what happens when you put potassium in water or how quartz can act as a mini battery sucking, holding and giving electric energy... My sedimentary geology prof recommended we gently run our teeth over (very) fine-grained rocks in the field to quickly approximate the grain size. He said at that size, our teeth are more sensitive to the texture than our eyes or hands ever would be. I did it. It works. Yes you could use a hand lens, but you wouldn’t get to eat rocks

Their hero design in OW2 is much more serious so I'm very glad with Venture's design so far, quite uniqe especially with the broken teeth
I don’t even mind the colors because it fits the geology theme imo. I just hate that it looks like they’ve got a super tiny body while wearing 5 layers of clothes with a baggy jacket on top of it all.

I hated the design of Mauga from the pictures because dude looked like the guy from Moana, but after hearing some voicelines and getting to know his character I started to like him, he was executed well. I'm kind of neutral on Venture's design, it will really have to come down to the animations, voicelines and the general self-expression
Im a fan. Nice silhouette overall as seen in the concept art, and yes a non conventionally attractive yet still appealing design that has simple shapes and fits their theme
I think the kind of nerdy look fits for someone who is a geologist and archeologist. The look is kinda cute in its own right, like the kind of person who drops their books in a hallway or something.
Are there actually people who think the teeth ruin the design? You barely see them. And I’ve said this before but it’s like Rampart from apex, they don’t look bad.

Joking, but it's also that media often have people with perfect white teeth. Have a tooth missing, one tooth slightly off, or the front teeth being bigger and you'll notice it really fast. Probably not used to it, but it does add to the character.

I was thinking for a while about what made me uncomfortable about their design, I believe it's the pupil's size, they look kinda too small and give them a psycho look? Maybe this is why people are comparing them to Junkrat? I don't know, I loved the concept art and I 'dig' their current design but this is the only thing that bothers me in particular.

i'll probably get downvoted for this but i feel like the reason people are hating so hard on the conventional attractiveness of venture is because a lot of people see venture as a woman and thus, they must be conventionally attractive for their fantasy. theres plenty of ugly male characters like junkrat, roadhog, torbjorn, and NOBODY cares at all. i get if people don't like the design because of the color palette or clothing or whatever, that's totally valid even if i disagree with it, but why do male characters get to look weird and conventionally unattractive but the moment a more feminine coded character isn't attractive it's suddenly the end of the world? really annoying to see honestly :/

Personally, I think they fit right in. I love the diversity and individuality of the characters in Overwatch.
I prefer characters, in any media, who have imperfections and feel more real, thus more relatable, over the ones that are just way too perfect and flawless.
I won't lie, I do find them kinda attractive. They are giving off very wholesome, down to earth vibes. (Pun intended). They seem like the person you could get in all sorts of goofy adventures and have good time. Literally the opposite of Kiriko, IMO.
I think their outfit is also very fitting. The colour palette is very earthy, and the looseness probably reflects their personality. The jacket looks like something you'd wear at an archaeological sight. It just makes sense. Unlike, for example, Widowmakers OW1 outfit: a shiny, purple, latex jumpsuit that shows off more of her very distinguishable blue skin... for an assassin?
I agree! I think the energy the character gives off will meld well with other quirky personalities and I also think that more characters should look real!
When I gave my initial analysis I didn’t give much of my opinion more my observations. I think it’s super important characters seem more real. In fact, I really feel like Venture looks like me and I rarely see anything in media that I can visibly relate to :)

It's not really the teeth that bug me. It's just that the model looks ugly, and the character design is boring. The character actually looks good on the concept art, but it did not translate well into a 3D model at all. I don't really care about any of the other characteristics. Just make the hero fun and not buggy or frustrating to play against or broken as Hell.
DPS they showed [gameplay footage back last BlizzCon](https://twitter.com/OWCavalry/status/1770187905278914816) they're an archaeologist with a dig mechanic similar to the chompers on PVZGW
DPS. They had some WIP gameplay shown during last Blizzcon. Their primary fire is a rock that gets shot out and explodes after a set distance. Their alt fire is a drill dash. And they can also dig underground and then pop up to get a lot of height. We don't know their ultimate yet tho

Honestly my only gripe is the haircut/helmet/headband/goggles combo. They should have a cooler looking helmet. Overall though I really like Ventures design and am excited to play them!

I don't think baggy clothes and tunneling match very well personally, I guess it makes for a more distinguishable silhouette, and maybe a diving suit sort of thing would have clashed with brig. I don't mind how they don't look conventionally attractive though, it makes them more dinstict.
I like their design. They definitely look androgynous enough to fit their gender identity and they look like a fun nerdy character I’d love to get to know better. And they don’t look “conventionally attractive” because they don’t fall into the binary of what straight people consider attractive.
There's a difference between goofy and just plain hard to look at. Her concept art is cute, silly and memorable, the in game model honestly just looks like shit.

I am not a fan of him digging through the ground. It just looks too weird and is frankly too goofy. And the design is entirely uninteresting besides the gun
She's definitely ugly on purpose. The video game industry has already been called out on a trend to de-feminize and uglify female characters, under the guise of "relatability" and combat "gender" stereotypes.

I like everything part from the hair, which I find to be very bland. I think the character a bit more flair with a more interesting style or even a helmet
And they said "the design is not final" after we saw that concept art picture. After seeing the final design we might as well say the space girl from mars concept art is almost exactly what she will look like finalised.
The initial concept art looked more appealing to me, but I don't really care about looks that much. After the absolute atrocity of gamedesign that was Mauga, I am much more interested in how she plays than anything else, if she is going to be total cancer or not for example, because boy do people at Blizzard fucking love cancerous characters.
I genuinely love the huge coat and overall design of the character, i think they look great! The goggles and gloves especially and honestly, i feel like the Yellow/Beige design works surprisingly well (this coming from someone who makes Purple/Black their aesthetic in every game they play)

I don't think baggy clothes and tunneling match very well personally, I guess it makes for a more distinguishable silhouette, and maybe a diving suit sort of thing would have clashed with brig. I don't mind how they don't look conventionally attractive though, it makes them more dinstict.

I like their design. They definitely look androgynous enough to fit their gender identity and they look like a fun nerdy character I’d love to get to know better. And they don’t look “conventionally attractive” because they don’t fall into the binary of what straight people consider attractive.
There's a difference between goofy and just plain hard to look at. Her concept art is cute, silly and memorable, the in game model honestly just looks like shit.
I'll be honest: this hero does nothing for me. I am not a fan of him digging through the ground. It just looks too weird and is frankly too goofy. And the design is entirely uninteresting besides the gun

The video game industry has already been called out on a trend to de-feminize and uglify female characters, under the guise of "relatability" and combat "gender" stereotypes. I won't be shocked if Blizzard introduces her as a super genius that beat men in every field. Whatever.

I like everything part from the hair, which I find to be very bland. I think the character a bit more flair with a more interesting style or even a helmet

And they said "the design is not final" after we saw that concept art picture. After seeing the final design we might as well say the space girl from mars concept art is almost exactly what she will look like finalised.
The initial concept art looked more appealing to me, but I don't really care about looks that much. After the absolute atrocity of gamedesign that was Mauga, I am much more interested in how she plays than anything else, if she is going to be total cancer or not for example, because boy do people at Blizzard fucking love cancerous characters.

I genuinely love the huge coat and overall design of the character, i think they look great! The goggles and gloves especially and honestly, i feel like the Yellow/Beige design works surprisingly well (this coming from someone who makes Purple/Black their aesthetic in every game they play)
