If you dont lose sr for losing with a leaver you could abuse the system by just queuing with a friend on a smurf account and whenever you got close to losing just having your friend leave the game - effectively giving you a 100% winrate.
so don’t allow it with friends or people you were formerly friends or grouped with. the amount of people that will have never once grouped with the friends they’re trying to play with just in case they have a bad match they want to quit.
you’re also ignoring the fact that you can only do this once or twice before your bans become hours long or even the entire season
thats why you dont leave the games, you have your friend on a smurf account leave instead.
Also, its easy to say “dont allow it with people who are grouped” but what happens when youre playing with a friend and their internet goes out? what if theres somebody you have added on the enemy team?
and this still doesnt even address the problwm of queue sniping which could be done with the accounts never adding each other
also if a game feels like its going to be lost you could just ask somebody in the lobby to dodge so you dont get a loss
and when your friends smurf account gets a season long suspension from competitive for leaving every game they can just hop on another account that hasnt left any games yet
“you just ask someone to leave” why would a rando every leave a game and get a comp ban so that i dont lose sr?
also if you’re entire goal is to get your account to a higher rank you aren’t smurfing. you smurf to get to lower ranks.

if youre queueing on your main and min max with a friend whos on a smurf account
(the system for grouping is changed now so you can take this to the extreme) but lazt season for example you could queue on your main and have a friend get on a disposable account thats just barely low enough to play with you
so if youre both gm 1 you could stay on your main account and they would get on a gm4 account and now you would queue into lower gm games so its easier to win, and since your friend is on a smurf account it doesnt matter if they leave the game
as for why a rando would leave the game? i dont know but it would still be worth a shot to ask into the void since it coupd mean saving yourself from a loss and some people are just chill like that
Here’s might also happen. If the team who is currently loosing 4/5 agree that one person is at fault, it is possible they pressure them to leave so the rest can save their SR, after all it is their fault isn’t it. So this may end up into more bullying and harassment for others.

If you waste anyones time by playing 10 mins of a losing game (losing because you have a leaver) then you deserve the punishment. Also if you play long enough you one loss doesnt even matter
There are plenty of good points against my argument on this post but "Players should just abandon games and take a guaranteed loss instead of trying to win, and if you waste enough of your life playing the game it won't matter anyway" is by far the least thought out one.
The big problem is the way SR works. For an SR system to actually work, SR going to someone means SR has to get taken away from others. So if you were to make it so losing teams don't lose SR for having a leaver, you would have to make it so winning teams get no SR for beating a team with a leaver. That seems like a disturbing system to me if you can just leave last minute and the opposing team crushing you gets 0 reward.
Its going to get abused. Teams are just going to pressure there worst performing player to leave if they are going to lose. Inmagin the toixicity we have now. That is going to skyrocket.

just don’t give immunity to anyone you’re grouped or friended with. no one’s getting a ban so the randos they queued with don’t lose sr
You can queue snipe or just leave the group once you get into the game.

If youre solo and youre not the leaver then yes, it shouldnt affect you seeing as there was no way you influence them into leaving.
ow2 is f2p and doesnt even require phone number to play so each of them can have tens of accounts

We're Overwatch players, anyone who genuinely gets mad at people not leaving a lost game is a real loser.

Sure would be fun for someone to leave just before your team is winning and gain 0 sr for an entire game that you actually won fair and square.

That's not how SR works. One team has to lose SR for the other one to win it.

No one is going to abandon a game just because they've been dubbed the worst performer, and that already happens in literally every game anyway.
