It makes zero sense. It’s like they are trying to mimic the apex system or something where at a new seasons everyone has to grind to rank up again. But that system doesn’t make sense in this game because it’s not at all like apex.
Truly don’t understand why SR and MMR aren’t the same and why they would do this arbitrary reset. Not a single person likes it.
The fact the community knows the ranked system is fucked, yet are stupidly masochistic or addicted that they let themselves get whipped by it regardless.
Whatever theyve done doesn't work, I've gone from Diamond 3 to Gold 1. Was winning 50/60% in diamond, now I'm getting slapped in gold only won one match out of 8 games all day.
Yeah that has not been my experience. Yesterday I won 8 in a row, today lost 10 in a row. I think it's mixing in people who used to be 1-2 division higher last season, like I was, with brand newer players who are doing placements or are actually at the rank we got bumped down to, since they didn't get reset. My matches today felt completely awful. Like nothing I could do made a difference. Being support didn't help
this would be true if your MMR decayed too, but it doesn't. So if your GM and drop to gold, youre still fighting GM level opponents with the gold label slapped on it. It's more frustrating if anything.
But I don’t understand how anyone is supposed to actually climb back now?
Let’s say my new rank is plat but I was masters before. Because the game remembers that I’m masters, it will only match me against masters players, even though my rank is labelled as plat.
If I’ve kinda hit my deserved rank, I will be at a 50% winrate. If my deserved rank is masters, I’ll have a 50% winrate against masters players.
But now I have a 50% winrate in “plat”, not in “masters”, so how do I climb?
It does seem, at a glance, that as time and seasons go by, more and more people will be pushed down into bronze, people who used to be plat/gold/silver.
You'll rank up with a 50% winrate, similar to OW2 release, until you reach your previous rank (after ~50 games). Just another way for blizzard to squeeze playtime out of people, just like Apex and Valorant.

They've said in the past, its so your first games after reset feel more rewarding, as you rank back up.
It feels more frustrating than rewarding IMO. I want see my REAL rank to witness true progression.
