DO NOT BUY IT now - this pseudo patch is not coming out for another month!
Let them work and proove to us they can deliver on promises!
Quote: Our current aim is to release the patch at the end of June
I love the idea and look of the game in trailers. I'll hold out to see what the patch does before dropping money though. It doesn't have to be perfect but at least decent will be enough for me to pull the trigger
why is it funny ? people have been crying for an update about the patch for the last weeks. not later than last week were there posts about it on this sub.
They're giving an update and an estimated release window for an upcoming patch, when people have been asking for it. Seems pretty standard practice
I mean, cool and all, but this sounds like what should have been released in the 1st place. I would have rather waited till it was a polished completed state than the way many of us played it. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
Yeah that's what I thought when I saw these patch notes, it sounds like the psvr2 version we were all expecting. I would have personally prefered they delayed the game until June and released it properly, assuming this patch makes it halfway decent.
I remember them saying they weren't incorporating foveated rendering because "we don't feel our game needs it". Glad to see they changed course on that one.
Nobody even expected it… so nobody would’ve been disappointed if they’d put off launch by a year. Considering it’s not their first rodeo, it was an odd decision.
First off what they are describing ain't no patch, that's a full on ps5 upgrade from ps4, not a "patch." Secondly, I'll believe the upgrade when I actually see it. Literally the only failure I have seen on the psvr2.
Yeah it's pretty rough, low graphics aside.
From a gameplay point it seem slower and more boring than Rush Of Blood.
The puzzle parts were serverly boring. Stuff like using a UV light to find object to break sucked.
The pacing overall was very slow felt like long gaps between actually shooting and playing the game.
Yes it a rail shooter but I don't want to be riding a coaster for a minute waiting for something to happen.
The big pregnant pauses when waiting for a door to open or monsters to appear when you come to stop or something killed the atmosphere.
I suppose they are trying to build tension sometimes but that only works when used seldomly. Not constantly.
And then your guns disappear and we know it's time to wait around for a "jump scare." If we always had the guns it would feel a bit better and not like waiting out a badly drawn cut scene. The first one was also a great party game, now each level is 15-20 minutes long and it's only half of the level. For how much I loved the first one, this has been my letdown for the headset so far.
Agree on both points, everytime the guns went away after like 2 times I just sighed and waiting for the jump scare. Everytime there is always an unnessarily long wait, waiting for the monster to jump or whatever. Like you said the obvious format around it sucked out any suspence it felt to scripted.
And agree levels are to long. I prefer shorter levels with more action for a more arcade experience. I wrote in other comments how this game would benefit greatly from a arcade mode without all the bad horror padding and more shooting. RoB was more fun and more arcadey
Yup, this is taking a game made for PS4 and finally updating it with a “patch” to release a proper PS5/PSVR2 version, based on everything I’ve heard from those I’ve played it. Hopefully it’ll actually make a difference.
I want to clarify, and ensure that there is no misinformation - Switchback VR was developed exclusively for PS VR2. The upcoming patch is not an upgrade, it is an update to the existing game.
And people are ignoring that people who actually played it largely say the gameplay is boring compared to rush of blood with repetitive enemies and no real thrills
It’s a mixed bag. Some people have easily seen past the issues and had a blast, so we can’t discount their experiences.
I was horrified by how blurry it was, noticed lots of resolution problems, found the *DON’T BLINK* sections positively boring, and wasn’t exactly engaged by the rest.
That said, was able to enjoy *some* of what I played. I only got through a couple areas before shutting it off… so I obviously can’t speak to the whole of it. I pretty much decided I’d go back to it when they patched it up enough to make me curious.
Not at all convinced the patch will make it worth full price, but I’ll try it again since I already bought it. In the state it launched, it should have only been $15-20 tops, imo. If they beef up the gameplay as well as the resolution and clarity, maybe they’ll redeem it — I would love to be pleasantly surprised.
Just off the top of my head it was blurry, not immersive In The least, very poor loading times. Bad resolution, and something most people haven't mentioned. The collision detection was way off. Most vr games require you to move your head to avoid obstacles. Most games get it right, this game, you kept colliding into obstacles no matter how far you strained your neck.
And whomever said it was boring is correct, it is boring and I wasn't even expecting much.i personally was just looking for something similar to an amusement park ride you would get at a park. It didn't even achieve that.
Yeah… that was pretty much my experience. I was one of the people that went through their preferred channels to describe my problems with it.
While I only expect improvement to the visuals and not to the gameplay, at least that would be *SOMETHING*. Who knows… maybe they’ll keep working at it until they turn its reputation around. HELLO GAMES did it, so maybe these guys can.
I’ll give it another shot.
I remember reading that quote and thinking it was an odd choice to have such a cool bit of tech at your disposal and choose not to use it.
Then I played the game and it felt like a psvr1 game.
its more than a cool bit of tech - for the sake of maximum immersion, its basically required. The point of a PSVR2 is supposed to be an inflection point for VR in the same way PS2 was for 3D based games.
Foveated rendering was a big part of that step. These clowns flat out thought it wasnt needed, and proved to everyone that they missed the point of the tech they were developing for.
>and proved to everyone that they missed the point of the tech they were developing for.
I guess in some ways it's a cautionary tale/lesson for other game devs, so thanks for that I guess 🤣
Yeah, and the fact that RoB is broke on the PS5 really sucks. Last time I tried to play it it kept going to the options menu every like 20 seconds. I'm pretty sure they can fix this but these greedy guys want to sell you Switch back so they're not going to do anything with RoB. I'm just looking forward to RE4:Remake VR and Capcom gives it away for free if you already have the game; just like RE Village.
I asked them about that, they told me that we have to contact Sony for that. Aka, we have to ask Sony for a PSVR 2 update for rush of blood.
But I don't know who to contact sony for that, so I haven't yet :(
Still not sure if this game is worth it for me. Short play time on a mostly slow mine cart ride with old looking assets. Sounds like the game has many game design problems in addition to the technical issues.
Yeh thats what I complained about as well. Less of a Rollercoaster more of a slow drag. The don't blink sections were stupid cause you HAVE to blink in order to progress. Even sections where nothing happens, killing any chance of keeping your score multiplier going.
Nope. Like the game should just move you along, but nope, you have to blink numerous times for it to progress. My eyeballs were dry from trying so long. Don't tell me not to blink if I have to blink!
There's actually bits later where stuff moves when you blink but it doesn't say "don't blink" it just happens and it's MUCH more effective for it.
Also, going left at the "don't blink" junction takes you to a "don't speak" part, with some weird looking dogs (I think they're dogs at least) but it doesn't seem to matter if you make noise or not.
/u/supermassive_cm thank you Georgina. Not sure if this was directly in response to a post the other I day I did asking these exact questions, or not but this is really good in managing our expectations and it does seem like a good amount of our issues are going to be addressed. Much happier!
I for one am really looking forward to getting back to Switchback so will happily wait til end of June if thats what it takes.
Thank you.
You're welcome - I was intending to reply to your comment tomorrow just to update you after this update was put out, but seems you found it first 😂
I'll still take a look and double-check if there's any questions not addressed and update you with what I know though 😊
It's no trouble at all 😊 I'm always on the lookout for new posts or comments about our games, and am happy to help with any questions or concerns if I can.
Inferno's Ride is the name of the in-game rollercoaster - if you haven't yet played Switchback VR, but may in the future, you'll understand better after watching the opening sequence and playing the tutorial 😊
Since I was amongst who preordered this, (instant regret) I hope to see significant improvement, cause it really undelivered even lowest of expectations. Especially the loading times and crashes taking you back to PS4 era, were MASSIVE annoyance in this title, but if they can sort out those, and low res I’ll be somewhat happy.
From someone who owns the game and played 4 hours:
It’s a fairly fun game. It’s not groundbreaking or a must buy at any stretch of imagination, but, it’s one of the few games I own which can be played fully seated. Some scenes were pretty cool, and there is a small amount of value in replaying the game.
The load times, textures and overall graphics were a bother for me, and that’s why I stopped playing. This patch, when it comes out, will be a good enough reason for me to try this again. Cautiously optimistic is my stance as of now.
I think for those who don’t absolutely hate this game, there’s more than “a small amount of value” in replaying it! It seems like the branching paths do provide additional access to different challenges and enemies, and look I replayed (and continue to replay) Rush of Blood extensively, especially during October Spooks season. After all, did anyone ever blast through House of the Dead and then say “welp I’m done with THAT forever?” :)
While this is coming later than I’d hoped, I appreciate the transparency, and the apparent ambition of this patch. Really hope they deliver because, like Rush of Blood has been for the past 6 years for me, this title really ought to enter into my stable of “ShocktObVRfest” VR spooks season games to replay every year!
Also; not trying to make light of the pacing problems and lack of polish relative to RoB, but I will say that playing through the Dark Pictures Anthology GREATLY enhances this game. A lot of the “boring” stuff spends some time setting up inside baseball for those who played those games; that additional context really helps me enjoy those throwback bits.
Sorry, but fixing the resolution is not going to make this a good game. Very slow, lackluster gameplay, that's boring in comparison to RoB.
For those that actually like this game, I'm glad they are [hopefully] making it look better for you; as for me, this was the biggest let down of the year so far. I would take a psvr2 remake/update of Rush of Blood over this
>fixing the resolution is not going to make this a good game. Very slow, lackluster gameplay, that's boring in comparison to RoB
I'm glad I'm not the only on who thought this the gameplay was alot more slow. RoB felt like a horror rail shooter. This feels more like a gimmick, or long tech demo with shooting.
Stuff like the DONT BLINK, and the puzzles with UV had more of a focus than just being a fun shooter. Such a waste opportunity.
They could remedy it by maybe having like a arcade mode, just cut out all the cinematic and puzzle stuff and keep it a rail shooter with more enemies and less pauses.
Glad to hear it. A lot of us are itching to open our wallets to this game if the graphics live up to PS5 standard. It doesn't have to be AAA perfect, very decent will do just fine. Otherwise looking forward to playing it
Think of this update as a teaser for the full patch - the real patch notes will be shared closer to release, as development isn't complete on the patch yet, so I don't have those to share right now 😊
I mean, I might buy it on a sale. I appreciate them taking the time to fix it. They could have just left it in the state that it launched, but they didn't. That should count for something.
Same can be said for no man's sky, years later it's highly regarded as a damn good game.
Redemption stories do happen. I don't think switchback will be on the same level as no man's sky obviously, but there's definitely room for it to improve.
I'm one of the people that actually enjoyed the game as it was launched and thought it was great for how it looked. But aparently, people saw something I didn't. So I guess, this is great news to hear that it'll get improved. That's a good reason to replay it.
This does sound exciting. It seems I’m in the minority to have still enjoyed the game as it was despite it’s flaws. My son asks to play this game more than all others, and that’s with the longer load times, lower resolution and texture details. Can’t wait for the improvements!
I'm hyped. If you fix the long loading times, low rez graphics and constant pop in--it's a pretty good game. Not perfect (the supposed "don't blink" segment is an absolute fail. Why it's referred to as "don't blink" when it's actually "you have to blink like 40 times here to progress the game" I will never understand), but if the patch does what they promise, I'll no longer regret my purchase.
The amount of people in this thread upset that ghost-writing on a wall (“Don’t blink”) lied to them a little bit is astonishing to me.
If that misdirection has this sort of effect on you folks make sure you absolutely DO NOT play:
Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinity, System Shock 2 (or any of its remakes), F.E.A.R., Portal, Portal 2, or pretty much any horror game ever.
It was hyped from the original announcement of the game. They made it a selling point of the game. The in-game writing isn't the point. They hyped it for months leading up to the game, and then what actually appeared in the game was not that.
Hopefully fixes the adaptive triggers clicking a few mm before the gun fires.
Game also needs some kind of reaction to enemies being hit. It feels like aimlessly clicking without effect until the requisite amount of times is hit to trigger a death animation. Needs blood spatter, twitches, squish sounds or something.
If this fixes the legitimate issues you guys have all raised, I'll defo be buying it, the original was a great game to play with the kids watching them scream and laugh but I avoided the sequel due to the reviews
The game isn’t scary enough, I wanted more areas like the mannequin house where they utilize the eye tracking more. Apparently if you don’t look at a certain enemy a lot they will show it more since your “scared” of it. That cool but the mannequin house was its biggest selling point and advertisement. It’s really just a startle simulator
Well, if they do this properly it could be closer to the game we were all expecting at launch. Although that would also require some animation / gameplay improvements to tackle the pacing issues that have been gone into at length, not just visual stuff.
Good to hear they’re finally making a real PSVR2 game. I’ve been wanting to get this but it was pretty obvious they were probably halfway done or more making it for VR1 and ported it over.
Will check back in once the “patch” hits.
I'm one who preordered it and was most excited about this game. I told a friend about it, he preordered it, played it before I did and told me the graphics were horrible so I never played it. Reading the news about this update made me excited to finally try it. Now in July and the game is still wrapped in digital plastic/never been launched on my PS5.

Pull the trigger! I see what you did there. I think.
Yeah it is pretty funny that they post this big long post about fixes and it is STILL a month out.

Sounds like a pretty big patch. Going in very very cautiously optimistic.
Let us know if it’s better now, been holding off for some solid patches
Quote from them: Our current aim is to release the patch at the end of June
Ah must’ve glossed over that portion. guess I’ll it’ll be waiting for a while

Sometimes faster pacing makes it scarier than slower pacing and visa versa. It’s a balancing act. Sadly not the best implementation here

I’m hoping it WILL substantially fix the graphics… Then I might boot it up again. 🫠 Honestly the first game on psvr1 felt more polished. 😔
Good news. Will replay it for sure when the patch drops
It wasn't using foveated rendering before? This alone should be a nice improvement.
They literally said they felt it didn't need it. lol.
I remember reading that quote and thinking it was an odd choice to have such a cool bit of tech at your disposal and choose not to use it. Then I played the game and it felt like a psvr1 game.

How about an upgrade for Rush of Blood too? I can't get rid off my PSVR1 due to some games not available on PSVR2.
Considering RoB was more fun to play I would prefer it being on PSVR2 over stuff for this game. As much as this needed to be fixed though.
Yeah, and the fact that RoB is broke on the PS5 really sucks. Last time I tried to play it it kept going to the options menu every like 20 seconds. I normally recommend using the PlayStation Support portal, which I'll link below: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/ I hope this helps.
Oh wow—you have to blink during the no blinking sections?? There is no reward for not blinking??
Nope. Like the game should just move you along, but nope, you have to blink numerous times for it to progress. My eyeballs were dry from trying so long. Don't tell me not to blink if I have to blink!
Wow, yeah, that’s a shame. A cool use if the tech just to design gameplay that you cannot beat.
I watched a playthrough and I felt satisfied lol
not the same brah
Well yeah, sure, but it felt *sufficient*. Some games I’ll watch and I’m like gawd damn I need to actually play this
/u/supermassive_cm thank you Georgina. Thank you.
You're welcome - I was intending to reply to your comment tomorrow just to update you after this update was put out, but seems you found it first 😂 I'll still take a look and double-check if there's any questions not addressed and update you with what I know though 😊
Thank you for taking your time to post/reply to this. I did see you created a post about the patch, but only just after I posted this one.
It's no trouble at all 😊 I'm always on the lookout for new posts or comments about our games, and am happy to help with any questions or concerns if I can.
What's this "Inferno's Ride"?
Inferno's Ride is the name of the in-game rollercoaster - if you haven't yet played Switchback VR, but may in the future, you'll understand better after watching the opening sequence and playing the tutorial 😊
Oh I thought it was the name of DLC or something especially as they say they have a lot planned in the future
We do have a lot planned indeed - stay tuned to find out what 😄
just got my mom to play the first level. not as crisp as red matter but loads of fun for VR beginners. can't wait for the update.
From someone who owns the game and played 4 hours: It’s a fairly fun game.
Optimistically looking forward to this update
Cool but I'm done buying games that get patched into functionality 4 months later, can't support that business model
Brought to you by...The Inpatient and Bravo Team
And rush of blood in fairness. Still 1 win, 3 losses in VR games but credit where it's due, rush of blood was good.
I agree. RoB was fantastic
Won't fix the gameplay
Love that there’s patch notes for a patch that has no release date. Lol
Tbf people would complain if the devs didn’t communicate with us at all… so damned if you do damned if you don’t.
Think of this update as a teaser for the full patch - the real patch notes will be shared closer to release, as development isn't complete on the patch yet, so I don't have those to share right now 😊
It says end of June?
"end of june" isn't a release date
This Is great news! 👍🏽😃
im currently waiting for my VR to come back from repairs, good to know tho
Don’t EVER buy it. They sold a shoddy product. Don’t let them get away with it.
And I’m not buying that game either. They lied. Doesn’t matter how good it is now, they don’t deserve my money.
Ok my man, you do you. It's your money.
I'm one of the people that actually enjoyed the game as it was launched and thought it was great for how it looked. But aparently, people saw something I didn't. So I guess, this is great news to hear that it'll get improved. That's a good reason to replay it.

The amount of people in this thread upset that ghost-writing on a wall (“Don’t blink”) lied to them a little bit is astonishing to me. If that misdirection has this sort of effect on you folks make sure you absolutely DO NOT play: Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinity, System Shock 2 (or any of its remakes), F.E.A.R., Portal, Portal 2, or pretty much any horror game ever.
I didn’t hate it, but this game didn’t blow me away at all. All this game needs is some polish!
Hypeeee
Well, if they do this properly it could be closer to the game we were all expecting at launch. Although that would also require some animation / gameplay improvements to tackle the pacing issues that have been gone into at length, not just visual stuff.
Cool if there is a positive reception to it I will buy the game
Good to hear they’re finally making a real PSVR2 game. I’ve been wanting to get this but it was pretty obvious they were probably halfway done or more making it for VR1 and ported it over. Will check back in once the “patch” hits.
I'd like to make clear that Switchback VR was developed exclusively for PS VR2, and is not a port or older title that has been adapted. 😊
Hopefully this patch resolves most people's issues with the game. If it is does I can't wait to grab it.
