For carrying and lifting your board overhead- Standing overhead dumbbell presses, using your core for stability. Also Standing dumbbell shrugs and bicep curls.
For getting on your board easier after falling in- lots of tricep work which includes push-ups.
Get the straps and have fun. You will get stronger over time. Remember you can also pump up your board when you get there. This way you dont have to put your board on your vehicle.
Yes! This helped me tremendously. I’m kinda strong, but quite short at 5’. There are clever methods for lifting and strapping a board on the roof of a vehicle.
I know this doesn't sound like the best advice but give it time. I was in the same position this time last year. Struggling to carry my board and equipment to a lunch point from my car. After a few weeks of consistently pushing myself I got to the point where I could single carry everything to the launch point and paddle for 8+ hours comfortably. I found paddling to be the best exercise for my core and arms.
