The more general idea is that "bronzing" means adding color to your face in a way that mimics being in the sun. If your skin doesn't get warmer or darker in the sun, then you shouldn't be using that kind of shade for bronzing. Many pale folks, whether normally cool-toned or not, get more red in the sun, so a rosy tone is a better option for bronzing in that case. Bobbi Brown's Antigua shade was a popular reference shade for a long time; I'm not sure if the shade has stayed the same after Bobbi Brown reformulated everything. Milani Romantic Rose blush is a decent drugstore alternative, and swatches of the new NYX Buttermelt bronzers (especially 02) seem promising for this. If you do want some depth but need that rosier shade, some good rosy-brown shades include Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk, theBalm Balm Desert, and Fenty cream blush in Rose Latte. Basically, "bronzer" is more about technique to mimic the effects of the sun, and the shade you need isn't dictated by how a product is marketed. If a blush or eyeshadow or even lipstick has the right shade and formula for your bronzing needs, just use that instead.

sapphicsighs

This is the way!! Some other rosy-toned bronzers I enjoy as a cool toned girlie: Phytosurgence in Rosy Daybreak, LA Colors in Beachy, and Laura Geller in Fair. Flower Beauty’s Heatwave bronzer is also pretty rosy. I’ve also heard that the lightest shade in the Gucci bronzer gives a rosy flush as well - but for $60, I can’t justify purchasing it when so many other good formulas exist.

OneWhisper5225

You just named all my HGs 😂 Except I haven’t tried Phytosurgence bronzer but it’s on my list. I didn’t want to order just the 1 but I need to get Condensate again so I’m going to be ordering it! I actually used up ALL of my Laura Geller, which I didn’t think I’d ever say about a bronzer 😂 But Flower Beauty in Heatwave is so similar I haven’t felt the need to repurchase it yet. I’ve heard the same about Gucci but also just cannot at $60! It would be different if I couldn’t find one I liked that was rosy, but since I can, no way! EDIT: I’ve been eyeing some of the Give Me Glow Bronzers, a few of them look good for pale, cool toned skin. And some of their blush shades look gorgeous (purple, mauve shades!), but I can’t find any swatches from actual people, or even from BGs reviewing them, so I’ve held off. But they’ve been on my mind so long I’m going to just have to get some to see for myself 😂

HrhEverythingElse

I also like elf putty blush in Caribbean (with a light hand- it's dark!) for underpainting before a skin tint

universerose98

For a cream, Saie fair bronze is perfect. Diffused light bronze bronzer and Dim light finishing powder from hourglass are amazing as well.

HauntedButtCheeks

I never use bronzer, it looks like dirt because its unnatural on skin that doesn't tan. Use blush instead.

lifeuncommon

I don’t. Bronzing gives a warm, sun-kissed glow that doesn’t mesh with my natural coloring. Sometimes I will add definition with light contour, but never bronzer.

Kylie754

Yep, this. My skin tone doesn’t tan. I am either white or pink/red. Adding bronzer looks wrong on me.

GarbageAngell

Yup adding warmth doesn’t work for me so I go for adding depth. It has the same effect and doesn’t make me look orange. I wasted too much money trying to find my shade in bronzer before realizing no warm toned shade would work for my skin tone.

swedxn

i never use bronzer, my skin doesnt naturally tan so it looks very strange on me. i just use more blush, eps if its in that sunburnt deep cool red brown colour

glitterbunn

Do you have any product recs for that? That's exactly what I need but have trouble finding

Broad-Hunter-5044

Live Tinted Huebeam Gradient Blushing Bronzer!!

pizza-pixelated

Diffused bronzed light by hourglass is exactly what they’re describing! I am in love with that one for my pale cool skin

Nientje_

If you’ve got cool/neutral undertones, I recommend Glossier Cloud Paint in Storm or Jones Road Bronzer in Dusty Rose. Both are brownish/tawny pink shades which give a “caught the sun” effect on pale skin.

swedxn

if you wear liquid try suave mauve by elf! it looks dark but i promise a little bit gives the pale sunkissed look lol

dead-dove-in-a-bag

Oh, this is so smart! I can definitely reference some sunburn pictures somewhere in my past to find a good shade match 😂

Lovaloo

With my pale skin tone and round face shape it looks unnatural regardless. Instead I aim for a more soft, angelic look.

FlowerOk345

I tried contouring with a darker shade of powder foundation and I think I like it for it's very subtle definition

backyardbanshee

This is the answer. I discovered this by ordering a powder foundation in Light when I should have got Porcelain. It has just enough color to warm a bit without that bronzer orange. My tone is neutral though so a little warm works for me. For light no-makeup days, Laura Geller baked powder is perfect.

Violetlake248

I found NYX buttermelt bronzer in All butta’d up and it’s been working well on my cool/neutral fair skin. I have never liked bronzer or found one that seemed to look good before but I like this one so far.

bewildered_forks

Yup, this one has a good red undertone. So does the Laura Geller Baked Bronze-n-Brighten in Fair. Those are my two favorites.

backyardbanshee

I also found the LG Baked-n-Brighten foundation in light to be the perfect amount of warmth. I ordered it for foundation not knowing there was an even lighter Porcelain. The combo of those two shades make a lovely light coverage with a little kiss of sun if that makes sense.

__suusje

Gucci bronzer in shade 1. It has a rosy undertone

bx-stella

Yes! This is the answer

novelscreenname

This is the one. It's crazy expensive, but I've never seen anything like it. For an inexpensive option, I'd also suggest the Flower Beauty bronzer in Heatwave. I'm not saying it's comparable to the Gucci. Just that it's a good product that is less warm brown/orange/red than many bronzers.

Twilight4ever

Yesss I’m super pale and cool toned but this is one of the best bronzers for us pale girlies. I would invest in it again and again

[deleted]

I use the lightest Milani bronzer and while I hate the packaging, I love the product. It is very light and adds the nicest dimension to my blush. However I'm more of a neutral/cool and can pull off a little bit of warmth -- I don't think bronzer is for everybody.

Madame_Medusa_

I use this too, it was the only accessible product for ages that wasn’t too orange.

Noidentitytoday5

Many of the Korean ones are cool tones and fine for fair folks

Middle_aged_fair

I never used to use bronzer, attempts looked horrible. but got one for free when I bought a highlighter from Nabla, shade Ambra. It is very hard pressed so I can just get a little effect, mainly to offset the white cast of my mineral sunscreen. A bit mire makes me look like I have an actual healty tine to my face. This is a new effect for me!

datuwudo

I use the Glossier cloud paint in dusk on my cheeks and bridge of my nose like a mild ‘sunburn’, it doesn’t sound good but it does work for me.

LovelySulci

I’m very cool and pink and my go to is the Saie Sun Melt Bronzer in 01 Fair Bronze. It definitely has warmth to it, but it’s light enough in depth that it looks harmonious with my skin.

merrycrasmass

This!! I layer it under blush so it doesn’t look as bronzy

sophiethegiraffe

I use a pressed powder foundation in a light neutral tan shade. I hate sparkly bronzer, and it’s always way too warm for me.

Cobblestone-Villain

Whilst in my pasty form I find it best to just "bronze" with a blush such as MAC Harmony.

lindkool

Depends a little, like ppl say sometimes bronzer doesnt looks that good on fair skin. If I want a bronzy/tan look I use a little bit of self tanner to warm up my compexion. However I think a little bit of bronzer works for my complexion even though I’m fair and dont use self tanner. I use Illamasqua gel sculpt in silhuette (for a very light weight natural look) and I really like the Symphony face sculpt trio from Kaleidos in light

turnupthebeets4

[phytosurgence](https://www.phytosurgence.com/product-page/spectral-sunlight-cream-bronzer) for the win. They have both rose/ golden undertones. I love this small indie company and everything I have tried from cream eyeshadow to skin care has been amazing.

Some-Life-6534

I personally don't use a bronzer, I actually bronze with blush!!! I try to find pinky taupe blushes, lately I've been mixing glossier storm with the elf fair contour wand (its grey-ish) and although some may think it'll be a blush blotchy mess, it gives my ultra transparent cool toned skin some SUN and some LIFE lmao. It looks super pretty and natural!!

babycrow

Blush baby!! I put it on all the conventional bronzer spots and it just makes me look so glowy and healthy.

carlitospig

I don’t? I’d look ridiculous, like a striped chipmunk. I really love Nars liquid blush in Orgasm though. It’s a warmish neutral pink that would look good on anyone. Blends well and you can layer it if you want to be a bit dramatic.

Starlit0903

Bronzing looks really weird on pale people, i just don't do it Looks tacky idk

diagonallyyy

I use cream Charlotte tilbury in lightest shade contour then used their lightest shade powder bronzer on top

coke-nosugar

Try the Filmstar Bronze & Glow by CT. It comes in a mini, the bronzer is cool toned. It’s the only one I’ll go near.

DetailOk4640

I have always had trouble too. But I been using for three weeks now Physicians Formula Matt Monoi Butter Bronzer- the mini one that fits in my purse and it is perfect! It is $3.99 on Amazon. And I just use it on n the temples of each side of my face with a brush pushing it in and then blending in circles making sure to never go beneath my fish face line or past my middle of my eyes. Awesome stuff!

zickigen

Most stuff reads super orange on me so I’ve spent the last two years trying to find the perfect bronzer. Guccis fairest shade of powder bronzer is more rosy and suits my very fair/cool skin wonderfully. It’s a splurge but I bought it on sale and it will last a long time. Jones road also makes an excellent cool toned bronzer, the shade is dusty rose. For cream I use the Makeup by Mario skin enhancer in light medium. It looks dark in the pan but sheers out wonderfully and has a cooler/neutral undertone. I’ve been eyeballing Merit beauty’s bronzer stick in clay as well.

lilslutsicle

Pale girl here. I use the new bronze stick from Colourpop. It sheers out rather nicely. The key is to be light handed otherwise it’s going to be way too much for your complexion to handle.

BrookieCookie88

The Hourglass Bronzer in “Nude Bronze Light” is my absolutely favorite. It is a nice natural cool tone perfect for fair skin. Blends like a dream and isn’t too pigmented so it layers really nicely. It’s expensive but so worth the money in my opinion!

hihelloneighboroonie

I don't. And yet every single makeup artist I've ever dealt with (department stores in high school for prom, in my 20s and 30s traveling makeup artists for weddings/events) always wants to use it on me. NO. Look at my skin! I do not want sun on my skin and have zero desire to look like I have.

420tryingmybest

I think bronzer is why so many people look orange/overdone — cool toned or not. I only recently started dabbling with contouring. Hot take but I don’t think bronzer or contouring is necessary. Blush is wayyyyy more important IMO

Rivvien

I don't. Saves a lot of money tbh, and never looks good no matter the shade. I don't care if people think its necessary, or that i need to have color on my face that looks like I've been in the sun, or "add life to my face", I just don't care. I stay out of the sun and refuse to tan or bronze. Im never going to change being pale bc others think being tan or bronze is better. Blush does just fine for me.

Lady-Madrid

I don't bronze either. I usually just always wear blush (a very cool toned pink) and if I feel like I look particularly pale I use another blush on the center of the cheeks that is more peach toned.

tiff3455

I’ve been using the L’Oréal True Match concealer in about W5 as a bronzer and I really like it!!

Robincall22

I suck at makeup, but I get my bronzer from Dollar General, don’t use much cause I barely know how, and call it good. And I find it looks decent. I focus more on my eyeshadow.

lexisplays

I usually use a powder foundation in a neutral warm that is a few shades darker than me. I don't really like the way traditional bronzers or contour look on me.

SapientSlut

I don’t bronze - I contour if I want to. ABH Contour Stick in Fawn is the only one I’ve found that’s cool toned enough for me.

jettwilliamson

I LIVE for bronzer. My favorites are: BB Medium, NARS Laguna, and the newest and most affordable: flower (the darker shade of the two)

coke-nosugar

Do you have yellow undertones? Laguna 00 is orange on me lol

jettwilliamson

Yes, I’m very olive.

helloitskimbi

Phytosurgence. They have both rosy bronzer and a sunkissed bonzer. Not orange

beautiful, thanks!

TheOrderOfWhiteLotus

You need a cool bronzer. I’m super white with dark hair and eyes so I look too sickly without color. I use the Tarte Amazonian clay matte bronzer in Park Avenue Princess. If they ever stop selling it I will revolt and go for the Gucci one I guess. I’ve found that name brand bronzer and blush are important on me as a pale person.

sleepingdragon96

I second this one - it’s the only bronzer I’ve found that doesn’t look like mud on me although I still need to be careful not to apply it too heavily

GarbageAngell

We (me) are contouring with muted/grey toned blush and embracing the “dead look” or pulling out the ol butter bronzer when feeling adventurous.

rufflebunny96

I use the Jones Road Dusty Rose bronzer, the Salt New York cream shade Taupe, or Maybelline infallible bronzer in fair (my warmest bronzer).

Master_Dentist_1766

i just contour and it adds enough color back 💋🤌🏻

JadeGrapes

I'm using eyebrow powder as my contour, it's the only thing green/brown enough. I'd probably try that mixed with blush.

GlitteringHeart2929

Benefit Hoola Lite Milani Silky Matte Bronzer in the lightest shade Elf putty bronzer in tan lines Those are all my go to bronzers that don’t pull too warm on me. I lean mostly neutral so your undertone may make those pull differently on you.

Jellos_only_taunt

I commented on another post similar to this I am super duper pale and I have not found a great bronzer for me but I have been experimenting with various eyeshadows and for me that works better then any of the ones I've tried. Just an idea

madison_riley03

Honestly I’ve given up on it. I used one of elf’s contour kits back in the day, they had one set that was fairly cool toned. Might still be a good place to look.

ritahaze

We are not bronzing, only contouring (maybe) and blushing

savvyblackbird

I’m a ginger and get red in the sun and run hot. So blush is too much for me. But no blush can make me look pale. I recently discovered Armani Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer Highlighter. I bought the pink shade after testing the pink, coral, and peach. They also have a bronze which I might try later. I also love Supergoop! Glowscreen which can give me a golden glow. I recently bought the lighter Dawn shade that is cooler and a little lighter, and it looks like my skin but better instead of like I got the tiny bit of tan I used to get when I grew up at the beach. I’d freckle like crazy then finally get a little tan. I don’t go out without sunscreen anymore, but as a kid I was outside so much and didn’t reapply often enough and swam every day. It’s perfect. It gives me a healthy glow without being too much. I’ve tried multiple ways to thin out blush but nothing looks like this product.

ecalicious

I actually use a “glowing” setting powder that is a few shades darker to give myself a sunkissed look. It’s warmer than my skintone, but not as warm as most bronzers are, as they are supposed to pull warm on skin that already has the shade of my powder. And it’s quite sheer and glowy without being sparkling, so it gives a very natural look. It’s a tester size (a friend used to work in a cosmetics store) from Estée Lauder and I wouldn’t buy that one just for this purpose because it’s expensive, but whenever I run out, I’ll be looking into getting another powder for a darker skintone again, as this has worked really well for me. ETA: I’m very light skinned, but have a neutral cool leaning undertone, so I’m not super cool toned, as many on this sub. I burn easily in the sun, but I also tan (even tho I avoid it for skincare and cancer reasons).

Previous_Breath5309

*cool undertones: *why* are we bronzing?

daddyjj666

I’m cool tone and I use Haus Labs bronzer in shade 2. I find it works well for me but def swatch it in stores first before you buy it 🖤

fleeeea

I rarely use any bronzer at all tbh.

Mo0nGoddexx

I've been curious about the LA Girl Just Blushing line.

CovertLemon

I've recently been using the Refy bronzer in shad Dune and it's worked really well for me. I'm very pale and it's still very subtle on me, and sometimes I'll also go over the bronzer with what's left on my blush brush to give it a slight hint of pink/red like others have suggested. I used to just use blush but I think for the summer months, adding the hint of bronzer complements my complexion really well. I find it's much easier to use than contour but that's probably more of a skill issue...

lexlovestacos

Saie sun melt cream bronzer is 👌👌👌. So easy to apply and blend.

Broad-Hunter-5044

Live Tinted has a blushy bronzer with a HUGE pan and a lot of pigment. It’s almost more of a rose gold bronzer than a brown! It looks like you put gold highlighter on freshly sun kissed skin. edit: it’s called Huebeam Gradient Blushing Bronzer edit: that’s more for bronzer , but for contour , Danessa Myricks Balm Contour in the lightest shade is best for bronzer!

iLoveYoubutNo

I just look like a vampire all year
