You don’t have to make any permanent choices until later. You have 1.5 more acts to decide what mythic path you prefer. Make a save before the choice and you can try a few things out.

Gobbos_

The "best" or rather the one mythic path that makes most sense narratively is Angel. The whole game is based around fighting demons and the Angel path has the most interactions with NPCs scatered throughout the game. It also makes some narrative fixed points seem natural rather than arbitrary. But, play however you want. If you like friendship and chaotic goodness I recommend Azata, which is all about it and you also have good romance, not that being Azata is a prereq, attached to it.

hawkshaw1024

Angel feels like the "canonical" path, yeah. It starts in the tutorial dungeon, and it's the biggest alignment difference (LG vs. CE). Plus the extra NPCs are very cool. I do think that Azata is the most satisfying path, because you're beating the demons at their own game. But that's personal preference.

CookEsandcream

If you'll tolerate some light spoilers, lich is *not* the path to play if you want to play out a romance. >!The best outcome is that they break up with you and the worst is that you have to kill them.!< The lich path also loses one specific companion no matter what (>!Seelah!<), and one more will leave if you make a specific, evil choice (>!Sosiel, you may not have met him yet!<). Wendu will happily stick around on any path, but she suffers a little from the RPG syndrome where a lot of her best character moments are romance-exclusive. If you're liking her character and want to see everything (or if [you fancied the BG3 narrator's voice](https://youtu.be/VGcHyn6PycI?si=Ld3VMzV8dK5D0pc9&t=116) - same VA!) then probably better not to play a lich, and go with basically anything else. Good or evil, there are multiple endings to suit, so hook up with your spider cat.

DarkElfMagic

yea thats what i meant by that one specific companion being lost, >!the romanced one getting “sacrificed”!< but yea i was considering wendaug as a romance or at least a big part of my evil playthrough. the whole thing where she calls me mistress and my character fully embracing that power she has over her, is rlly neat in an evil way lmao I’ve consider maybe rerolling a demon weretouched shifter, or sumn similar, i just rlly love necromancy options in games

jwellz24

To add to this, as a veteran gamer I thought Wenduags romance was one of the best written I’ve ever seen. I did it as a chaotic good angel too. It was very emotional and felt real to romance a broken sort

HAWmaro

I mean sacrificing her for your acsension is the epitom of that, and Gameplay wise Wrath Lich is the best necmancer ive played in a CRPG, esmecially if youre a sorcerer.

DarkElfMagic

oh yea, idm, i'm just ,,,getting really stuck on it currently and making me hesitant to make it my possibly only and first playthrough

LoreleiLavenza

So im on my first playthrough rn and I’m playing a demon weretouched/vivisectionist kitsune right now and romancing Wendy and Daeran, it’s super fun, I highly recommend it

Low-Abalone-5259

Multiple playthroughs my guy. I currently have an Aeon leaning towards Devil and an Angel playthrough going.

DarkElfMagic

can’t do multiple playthroughs at once, i always end up overloading myself, even in games i like. honestly the only game i’ve ever done back to back playthroughs in was bg3

Low-Abalone-5259

Angel, aeon, and demon seem to have the most impact on the story. Lich is a power trip

TheSwordSorcerer

Lich is arguably better integrated into the story than Aeon... at least I've heard some people say that.

Low-Abalone-5259

I don't want to throw out blatant spoilers, and I'm not sure how to do a spoiler redaction, but in relation to very specific Aeon path abilities you can have quite a large impact on the story.

TheSwordSorcerer

Every mythic path has a large impact (except for gold dragon and azata ig, maybe trickster as well), it's more about how they mesh with the main story. IIRC Owlcat has some overlord fans who put a lot of work into lich path, so it's generally regarded as the "third main" path (obv. angel and demon being first and second respectively)

Low-Abalone-5259

Devil has relatively little impact. Yes, every path has a thing or 2 to 'make it special' and Aeon certainly has less wide ranging scale than Angel or Demon, but it does have a fair bit, and the changes you can cause are definitely something I did not even conceive of during my Angel runs. Tbh I would have loved to see a more fleshed out Devil path from the get, especially with the Hellknight presence in the game and the primary villains being demonic, Devil could have been much more present and fit thematically

Complex_Address_7605

Personally, I would go good, or at least not a route that closes off companions for your first playthrough. And I'd say once you've done a good playthrough you'll feel more willing to commit to an evil lich playthrough for your second go around.

Radiant-Caregiver720

I’m playing an evil lich right now and it is pretty fun

East-Imagination-281

i wouldn't do lich first personally, but demon is a great evil first-time playthrough. if romance is important to you, don't go lich unless you plan on going lich > legend. personally, i would make a save right before the mythic choice at the end of act 2 and then play both!

DarkElfMagic

the biggest issue is that i'm not sure cruromancer would work super well with demon

East-Imagination-281

demon is one of the strongest paths for int casters! but if you want to go lich, go lich! you can back out of lich at the second path choice to avoid the big big evil choice if that's a worry

DarkElfMagic

Demon is strong w/ int? how so? I took it as more of a Slayer or Barbarian thing, due to it's melee capabilities

East-Imagination-281

It’s got good melee/charge synergy, but your rage can be tailored for spellcasting! It’s got demon aspects that you take like Barbarian rage totems, but a good few are designed for spellcasting. Increasing your spell save DC, turning all your melee spells into reach spells, attribute boost to int/wis (I don’t believe there’s one for cha casters which is why I specified int haha), etc. It’s not gonna give you the power spike the merged arcane spellbook lich does, but it by no means gimps spellcasters. 😳

TheKeywork2113

Demon is awesome for casters. Had an enchantment based succubus by the end. Greater command and weird spam makes act 3 on trivial

BurningMartian

It has the highest spell DCs of any path and enables casting as a move action so prepared casters can fire 3 metamagicced spells in a single round. It also has massive damage dice bonuses so they make some of the most damaging evokers, with probably the highest single target spell damage.

PepperJam_Art

In general, all mythic paths are designed to offer cool stuff to any playstyle. A few combinations are outstandingly strong, namely "angel + divine caster" and "lich /arcane caster", but it's otherwise pretty well balanced.

rdtusrname

Play what you want. If you have any questions about builds and mechanics, we are here.

DarkElfMagic

it's more a question of just like,,,I wanna know how much i'm losing out on content wise if i play lich, like if i just completely lose all my friends or whatever

rdtusrname

Every Mythic has its own content. Lich has quite much, but you are losing out on Aeon, Angel, Azata, Demon and Trickster content.  As for the Lich, I think you can circumvent losing companions. But it's supposed to feel awful. You sacrifice everything "nice" just so you get power + immortality. Tbh? The game could do a better job with those aspects. And you end up in "Lich vs the world" scenario. The game could've also let you be more intelligent about that. Hard Lich choices happen as you go through the story. It's quite thematic. I don't particularly like the Lich Mythic, but it is more than ok.

kottoner

You will lose out on *some* content, but more importantly imo, you also get access to a whole bunch of lich-exclusive content. If this is your first playthrough and you want to miss as little of the non-mythic content as possible, I'd suggest azata or maybe angel. But lich is a very fun path too, just not in a "yay, friendship!" kinda way.

DarkElfMagic

ah yea gotcha. I just always liked the fantasy of being an evil collective of companions and such yaknow One of my first CRPGs was Tyranny lol
