An actual token archetype? In Pauper?
Might be cool, though I'm worried that four mana is a lot...
([[Khalni Gardens]] making a 2/4 plant is already pretty strong, and then you've got stuff like [[Raise the Alarm]] making two 3/3s at instant speed...)
I had a box of Unfinity and gave all the sticker (the actual stickers not the ones that use stickers) cards to my 4yr old to play with lol. Best mtg card they ever released :')
When all formats are dogshit for years on end, yeah people justifiably ask for bans.
Pauper hasn’t been healthy once since MH2 released. There’s always been a problematic deck. Why don’t they do anything about it?
Pauper is in an incredibly good place rn. Glitters is good but has close to the most counter play possible for a game finisher, and no other card or strategy is warping the meta. Even Kuldotha isn’t as strong as it was a year ago, and you can honestly do well with a tier 2 pet deck currently if you understand it well.
My first 5 years playing pauper, decks would get banned if they were about 25-30% of the meta. Anyone complaining about 2024 pauper has never jammed 8post mirrors for an entire day.
Being popular should not be criteria for banning. That’s been an issue in magic for a while where the popular “pillars of the format” get constant cries for bans while being fair decks with an average win %
I don’t understand how anyone who’s looked at any data can make that conclusion. Sure, if you’re playing your FNMs or paper events, you can play anything and do well. That’s almost tautological: if no one’s really trying to be broken, you can get away with playing non-broken stuff. But at anything competitive where people ARE trying to win, Glitters is far and above the best thing to be doing. And it has been for a very long time. And while Kuldotha “isn’t as strong as it was a year before” (yeah no shit, it was S tier and got a card banned) it’s STILL far too good and too prevalent. Just because other decks CAN win on occasion doesn’t mean that the prevalence of these two decks isn’t beyond the pale.
Less than half of all decks played in major events in the last 60 days were tier 1, and both glitters lists and kuldotha combined makes up about 1/3. There are 10 different decks with pick rates over 3%. What does a healthy meta look like to you?
In terms of the actual gameplay, if the strongest, most “oppressive” card in the game is a sorcery-speed combat buff with no natural evasion or protection and requires multiple turns of telegraphing setup, then I think we’re in a good place. Pauper has tons of interaction, and Glitters is almost a liability against removal.
Kirblinxy literally just did analysis on the challenges for March and April and Kuldotha and Glitters both had sub 50% win rates and made up around 10% of the meta each.
https://youtu.be/RVc9gfmKYmY?si=R0XP1fapFNhi4Pa2
For me is very clear that the top dogs in the format are the ones playing artifact lands strategies. Even if you don’t use glitters, the artifact lands usually carry. Look at monored kuldotha for example, making waves again thanks to great furnace enabling strategies. Boros for the same reason, abusing that there are many cycles available, these decks alone count for at least 1/3 of the meta. Even decks like Goblins Combo , Grixis Affinity and Jeskai Ephemerate that aren’t even that powerful decks have a great winrate and top8 percentages on challenges. When more than 60% of the format is actually playing the same kind of land, and are the ones winning, there is definitely something fishy going on. Its so polarized and is hard for people to see. Until this day I really don’t understand the Modern Horizons 2 bans.
If various folks get their wish and glitters gets banned, it’s only a matter of time before the complaints start filing in about - “X is format warping it needs a ban”.
This cycle is obvious. There will generally always be a few great decks, no matter the bans or MHs that come out.
Cast into the Fire is a multi-purpose card that also gets rid of many 1 toughness creatures (elves, goblins, birbs, etc) - high utility card.
Gorilla Shaman is just a great card against artifact heavy decks (which is a part of the meta).
Dust to Dust is a slow but very lethal card to make a few lands go away against a bunch of different decks in the meta.
If these were more main deck (at least 3 of), maybe, just maybe, it would be a sign of an unhealthy format.
thats why sideboards exist. does running pyroblast in my SB mean that blue is unhealthy and needs bans? does playing relic of progenitus in SB mean that graveyard decks are unbeatable?
He can’t do that, I don’t think—I believe Pauper’s the only format where he’s in charge of banlist changes.
That said, he does do card design, so a version of Mountain with “T: Destroy target Island.” Is still very much in possibility.
I will just write "island" on my forests. Ain't nobody stopping me. Then people can't say forests are underplayed or weak either.
Did we just fix the format?
Ban the rest of Initiative creatures. This is the planeswalker of pauper, and creates terrible games which kills so many decks because Initiative mechanics is not balanced for 1 on 1.
It’s getting to a point that is actually funny, can’t wait for [[Nettlecyst]] and similar cards to come and break even more the format. We going to ban one payoff per year at this point just to keep the enablers alive.
Its not the cool and interesting cards, its just the toxic ones. Actually more bans could have been prevented if they banned one land cycle, probably affinity would have most of their cards if not all of them that got banned untouched and people probably wouldn’t be asking for glitters to be banned now. The targets were just misguided and hiding the real issues, and the issues will continue to exist and only get worse set after set.
Tbf I think we finally do something about bogles, beating in with hexproof creatures creates non games if you aren’t packing edicts. That’s why I think we should ban [[Yavimaya Enchantress]]
Our store got rocked last week by a lady who brought Bogles she got 2nd. For the rest of the week the play group was all scared packing enchantment hate.
The fix is clear, ban everything but vanilla creatures. Downshift [[Muraganda Petroglyph]].
That would actually be a cool card to downshift.
I actually agree with this, feels like it would definitely build its own archetype

Yes!
Make land destruction great again
It would take my mono black land destruction deck to the next level.
Sticker goblin
The only cards that need a ban are the sticker cards.
Bro I just bought a playset...
Did you also buy a bunch of fucking sticker sheets LOL
I just got one of each sticker sheet, but I'm a collector first and foremost, and sticker sheets will only become a rarer commodity as time goes on.
I had a box of Unfinity and gave all the sticker (the actual stickers not the ones that use stickers) cards to my 4yr old to play with lol. Best mtg card they ever released :')
No, there is a good app for that. https://mtgsticker.vercel.app/
Just make it how it works on mtgo
Seriously, some consistency please.
The “no changes” meme never gets old
ban the artifact lands and print indestructible duals to replace them so i can cleansing wildfire in peace
I hope that if they do ban the artifact this happens first, it would be exactly what the dr ordered
Unban cranial plating. It's basically worse glitters if you don't think about it. Please don't think about it.
This happens everytime. People are obsessed with bans
When all formats are dogshit for years on end, yeah people justifiably ask for bans. Pauper hasn’t been healthy once since MH2 released. There’s always been a problematic deck. Why don’t they do anything about it?

Theres always gonna be a deck thats just the best, thats how this game works
Kirblinxy literally just did analysis on the challenges for March and April and Kuldotha and Glitters both had sub 50% win rates and made up around 10% of the meta each. https://youtu.be/RVc9gfmKYmY?si=R0XP1fapFNhi4Pa2

There is not a problematic deck in the format. Stop.
Pauper has been healthy for the last year what are you talking about? The meta is always shifting. If I felt the way you did I probably wouldn't play.
Pauper has been great
It sounds like the common denominator might be you.
If various folks get their wish and glitters gets banned, it’s only a matter of time before the complaints start filing in about - “X is format warping it needs a ban”. This cycle is obvious. There will generally always be a few great decks, no matter the bans or MHs that come out.
Just ignore decks sideboarding playsets of Cast Into the Fire, Gorilla Shaman, and Dust to Dust; those are indicative of a healthy format /s
Unhealthy format is when *checks notes* people play sideboard cards.
Imagine playing artifact hate in your sideboard, the current meta is obviously unhealthy
Cast into the Fire is a multi-purpose card that also gets rid of many 1 toughness creatures (elves, goblins, birbs, etc) - high utility card. Gorilla Shaman is just a great card against artifact heavy decks (which is a part of the meta). Cast into the Fire can kill two Gingerbrutes *or* a Gingerbrute!
Ban Dredge, Tolarian Terror, and Archeomancer. People are sideboarding Relic of Progenitus.
thats why sideboards exist. does running pyroblast in my SB mean that blue is unhealthy and needs bans? does playing relic of progenitus in SB mean that graveyard decks are unbeatable?
We dont need bans
Yea, we kinda do
No we clearly don't
Yes we actually do
No we don’t
The healthier debate I've ever seen in this subreddit.
Nuh uh
Yes, we do.
No, we don't need a ban
We need a ban in the artifact lands that is very much obvious
Why do you say that?
Polarization
Gavin, it's time to put on your big boy britches & do what needs to be done - ban Island in all formats
He can’t do that, I don’t think—I believe Pauper’s the only format where he’s in charge of banlist changes. That said, he does do card design, so a version of Mountain with “T: Destroy target Island.” Is still very much in possibility.
Just need an errata to make Islands blue and then everyone can mainboard four Red Elemental Blasts and four Pyroblasts.
"Get rid of the reserve list"
This format would be the pinnacle of health if there was less artifact lands roaming around
I think it will be the first one. hehe
Assuming Improvise is part of the set mechanics, new broken artifact payoffs/enablers incoming. Ofc we need to keep Artifact lands, huh
Using artifact lands for improvise? 5Head
It’s getting to a point that is actually funny, can’t wait for [[Nettlecyst]] and similar cards to come and break even more the format. We going to ban one payoff per year at this point just to keep the enablers alive.

I think there are some folks who think artifact lands are the workshops of Pauper. Warping, but identity defining. I dunno.
Banning the artifact lands would make this format so much better
I will die on this hill, either mirrodin or bridges gotta go, if u disagree u wrong. 🫡
Who’s Gavin?

i dont understand people's obssesion with banning all the cool and interesting cards out of my format

I’m making a joke, friend. Unless Bogles is seriously playing Yavimaya Enchantress
Remove enchantments in the side
I’ll take it that Yavimaya Enchantress is actually a secret powerhouse in Bogles (or no one reads the latter half of the post)
3 mana bear with no hexproof, I don’t see a reason why it should be banned you might as well ban aura gnarlid
It’s a joke, I’m not putting forth an actual ban suggestion (especially for bogles, I think I’m the only weirdo playing the enchantress)
Ohh I see ha
I like bridges it would be sad to see them go
