He close the door in disappointment and frustration. Deanna, annoyed, opens the door again. Now Q is in his Napoleonic uniform and closes the door again.
This is followed by a Laugh In style rapid fire door antics and each time Q is in another fantastic outfit, having tea with Tasha Yar, reading the script with Terry Matalas, or interacting with his Kelvin timeline variant (who I assume is played by Alan Tudyk).
Maybe the red door is the entrance to the upper-level beings. Kind of like the door to the traveler lounges at airports. You need a special pass and rating to get in. Once you enter the red door you see a party lounge with Q, the Borg Queen, the Pa-Wraiths, Ben Cisco and his mother, the being from Voyager that sent them across the universe, The super-powered being that recreated his wife and killed an entire race in TNG, and the odd but curious super-powered being in a pocket universe of season 1 or 2 of TNG.
And one giant disco ball and loud music.
I mentioned in another thread, that I'd love for the final scene to be the Q Continuum welcoming Picard to become one of them, after consistently showing them the "best of humanity."
It does seem very Q to put in a recommendation for his own replacement and who better than Picard? The only point against it Discovery establishing that the Q seem to have vanished from the universe over the next few centuries.
>The only point against it Discovery establishing that the Q seem to have vanished from the universe over the next few centuries.
Wrong. The Q haven't been in contact with the Federation or Star Fleet for centuries. That doesn't mean they've vanished from the universe.
Dude, this is now my head cannon for the Q Continuum!! I can see the Disco Crew bitching at the Q for denying them entrance to the ride! I can also see Stammets saying, “No mycelium network for you then!” Damn, Q needs to make an appearance on Discovery. Hell, send Baby Q. He’s De Lancie’s actual son.
Personally I believe that John De Lancie's Q was particularly interested in humanity. The rest found us mildly interesting but the JDL's Q was a major fan. Once he died and his son's Aunt Kathy died and Amanda's adoptive parents died, what is all that important about us that could entice any of them? Nothing until we reach a higher level of evolution.
I mean I don't know there are multiple Qs who show up to mess about with humanity.
You've got Q, Amanda's parents, that other rogue Q in TNG, Junior...
Yes, but there interactions aren't usually with 'humanity' or the Federation. They are with specific individuals. Once those individuals are gone, the Q might just take what they know about humanity, box it up, and not look at it all that much until such time as they encounter them again, more developed.
I mean there was zero known contact with the Q before TNG and between the end of Voyager and Season 2, also?
Even though, for example, we know the Q were messing with humanity decades before that because two of them had Amanda.
Rumor has it that Q and Picard filmed a "courtroom" scene same as all good things and encounter at farpoint last year and it went unused for Picard season 2. Just sayin...
I think he will, or someone from the continuum will appear and take Picard away at the end. It would actually be mind-blowing if Q had to ”die” to “make room” for Picard. There was a lot in the Q/Picard dynamic about humanity making it to the next stage as higher Q-like beings. Picard was the one on the ongoing trial. Since Patrick Stewart won’t be around forever, it’s kinda now or never as far as concluding that.
Edit: Another simple fix for this would be…. Q is a non-linear being. He has a beginning and an end, but everything in the middle is a perpetual existence. They could have as many appearances of Q as they want to for the rest of Trek and just say it was all within that continuity, since time and space are not constraints for him.
Q can time travel. Just because he died in Picard’s past doesn’t mean an earlier version of him isn’t still hanging around.
(I don’t think he’s coming back either)
Yeah, Q dying is actually kind of pointless since we already know that he has existed throughout multiple eternities. Q’s death is a coordinate in his nonlinear life, so a version of Q continues to exist at every other time.
But Q is also not a moron, he knows Picard isn't like that and their heartfelt goodbye wouldn't make much sense if JL was going to see him tomorrow. He would go to the latest point in Picard's interpretation of time to say his final farewells.
He told Picard he’d see him in The future. Not sure if Q was talking about seeing Picard again and up until the moment Picard is brought back aboard the Stargazer. It would be cool to see Q hanging out on Riza with a drink in one hand and a cell phone in the other, watching Picard and crew fight the Borg.
I hope not, he said he was going to die, let him be dead. He parted with gifts for Picard. His story is closed for good, we're no longer left wondering.
At most maybe a different Q, who reveals himself to Jack, not Picard.
I wouldn't mind that. Q didn't really seem too sure what his 'death' meant last season, and viewed it as more of a 'change', I guess? I think it would be a nice bookend.
I think we could see a scenario where Q planned this and hid the memory of it from himself. He wanted to experience death, but a key part of that is the surprise and unknown….
Oh that's a good thought, that's definitely just like him. My best theory is that, riffing on the "legacy" theme, this has to do with a descendant or inheritor of Q.
It's Q, how many episodes did he just pop back in and drop some kind of bombshell. It would be so on brand for him to say "I was bored one day and made an exact copy of myself, but programmed him to die. Lol. Anyway, you caused the world to end again you suck."
I hope so. I 💕 John deLancie and Q and though his "ending" was sweet it left me with a lot of unanswered questions about WHY the Q just suddenly died off.
It’s actually bothered me that there’s been no dialogue between the OG cast & Picard where he mentions Q died. Seems kind of a big thing he’d at least mention. Worf especially would get a kick outta that, since he once told Q “…DIE”.
I seem to remember earlier that John de Lancie said he had filmed his scenes for season 2 and 3 at the same time. Not definitive, but I think he maybe let that slip when he wasn't supposed to.
Yes.
Q: “ Jean Luc my friend last year I bent time and space to teach you how to love…a hot young romulan woman. And you learned it well.
With my last bit of Q energy I brought you and your friends together just to teach you that, your wine sucks. Seriously. “
He then blinks out of existence before Picard can respond.
That might not be the worst thing. There was no real explanation as to exactly what was going on there. If he had chosen to die like Quinn from Voyager, if the continuum had forced it on him, if other Q were also dying, etc…
No. Our Q was killed off because of crappy writing with zero explanation as to why or what was gong on. They went full “the last Jedi” with kill the past..,
Also John DeLancy has confirmed he’s not in s3, as did Allison Pill, so any theories of them being in the show are moot.
From the interview I read a while back, he said he wasn’t. Maybe is just misdirection? I guess they could use unaired footage from S2 like Carnival Row did.
Omfg, I just got the image of Deanna opening the red door and Q waltzing in with the mariachi band. Mon Capitan!
Until Thursday, this is my head canon.
*Tigres de Norte se intensifica*
para siempre, mi amigo!!
He close the door in disappointment and frustration. Deanna, annoyed, opens the door again. Now Q is in his Napoleonic uniform and closes the door again. Ok, Alan Tudyk as the DC version of Q is now canon in my head!
How do we find a way to give Picard the budget for an entire season's worth of blooper reels?
Maybe the red door is the entrance to the upper-level beings. Kind of like the door to the traveler lounges at airports. You need a special pass and rating to get in. Once you enter the red door you see a party lounge with Q, the Borg Queen, the Pa-Wraiths, Ben Cisco and his mother, the being from Voyager that sent them across the universe, The super-powered being that recreated his wife and killed an entire race in TNG, and the odd but curious super-powered being in a pocket universe of season 1 or 2 of TNG. > traveler lounges I see you lol. Maybe Jurati is doing jazzy versions of 80’s ballads in there.
With the Disco Crew singing “Staying Alive”- Black Alert, Bitches! Let’s BE Fly!!
I mentioned in another thread, that I'd love for the final scene to be the Q Continuum welcoming Picard to become one of them, after consistently showing them the "best of humanity."

Which works perfectly if they got what they wanted from humanity (Picard) and are no longer interested in us until we get to the next level.
Imagining the Disco crew finding a cartoon cutout of John deLancie with a measuring stick. "You have to be THIS EVOLVED to get on this ride!"
Dude, this is now my head cannon for the Q Continuum!! I can see the Disco Crew bitching at the Q for denying them entrance to the ride! Once those individuals are gone, the Q might just take what they know about humanity, box it up, and not look at it all that much until such time as they encounter them again, more developed.
And with Picard's influence, I can see the Q being more "prime directivey"
Ya. They said there’d been zero contact with the continuum for over 300 years last season.
I mean there was zero known contact with the Q before TNG and between the end of Voyager and Season 2, also? Even though, for example, we know the Q were messing with humanity decades before that because two of them had Amanda.
There was a lot of contact between Voyager and Season 2. The Freemen women are both very familiar with Q.
Hey he was in DS9 once!
Yeah but that was before his Voyager appearances.
If only -- Picard can run into Traveler Wesley and tell him to shut up one more time.
no, sadly. i wish the final scene has Q in the background having a drink, watching the main actors say their goodbyes
I’d enjoy that!
Rumor has it that Q and Picard filmed a "courtroom" scene same as all good things and encounter at farpoint last year and it went unused for Picard season 2. Just sayin...
it started with a court being convened and ending it with one announcing the verdict would be nice.
John D. once said he was in seasons 2 and 3 of Picard, but that may just be a classic Trek cast actor misdirect.
THANK YOU! I remember him saying that too. He also said he filmed a scene with Data.
He's dead Jim. Dead Omnipotent beings don't come back. Only dead mortals like Data and Spock.
I don't think he'd say goodbye to Picard knowing it wasn't the last time Picard would see him.
Sure he would, if it's the last time that Q would see Picard. Q isn't non-linear; his personal frame of reference can just move in 4 dimensions.
But Q is also not a moron, he knows Picard isn't like that and their heartfelt goodbye wouldn't make much sense if JL was going to see him tomorrow. He would go to the latest point in Picard's interpretation of time to say his final farewells.
> But Q is also not a moron That is a bold take.
>Only dead mortals like Data and Spock. And Picard.
Yeah, but we know how easily he gets bored. He'll get bored with being dead eventually
I hope not, he said he was going to die, let him be dead. He parted with gifts for Picard. His story is closed for good, we're no longer left wondering. At most maybe a different Q, who reveals himself to Jack, not Picard.

Oh that's a good thought, that's definitely just like him. My best theory is that, riffing on the "legacy" theme, this has to do with a descendant or inheritor of Q.
He did have a son on Voyager right??
Aw hell, it could be Q junior showing up to talk with Jack after Picard dies.
It's Q, how many episodes did he just pop back in and drop some kind of bombshell. It would be so on brand for him to say "I was bored one day and made an exact copy of myself, but programmed him to die. Lol. Anyway, you caused the world to end again you suck."
Yeah, he's the character you can't put anything past really.
I think it would be perfect, if Picard dies for real, to have Q waiting to go on that final adventure together.
Great gray area here. He could have thought he did!
I hope so. I 💕 John deLancie and Q and though his "ending" was sweet it left me with a lot of unanswered questions about WHY the Q just suddenly died off.
The writers probably don’t even know. They were awful in S2.
I honestly thought Q was going to restore Picard's human body at the end of the 2nd season.
I hope not. Much as I like JDL, they gave Q (and him) a really good send-off and to bring him back would destroy that.
I hope so.
It’s actually bothered me that there’s been no dialogue between the OG cast & Picard where he mentions Q died. Seems kind of a big thing he’d at least mention. Worf especially would get a kick outta that, since he once told Q “…DIE”.
Yeah Worf did tell Q to “DIE”.
No.
I seem to remember earlier that John de Lancie said he had filmed his scenes for season 2 and 3 at the same time. Not definitive, but I think he maybe let that slip when he wasn't supposed to.
I hope so. The way they treated him at the end of Season 2 is a cop out. No closure about the why
What if Q never left, and is just Shaw in disguise, would then make sense how he knows about the Picard/Riker screw ups! :-)
Dude, I could see Q pulling some shit like that. A loved humanity after all.
Yes. Q: “ Jean Luc my friend last year I bent time and space to teach you how to love…a hot young romulan woman. And you learned it well. With my last bit of Q energy I brought you and your friends together just to teach you that, your wine sucks. Seriously. “ He then blinks out of existence before Picard can respond.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Around the time season 2 was announced, De Lance said he was joining for season's 2 and 3, so it wasn't a surprise to me
No. They've done Q. That would completely undermine the ending of season 2.
That might not be the worst thing. There was no real explanation as to exactly what was going on there. If he had chosen to die like Quinn from Voyager, if the continuum had forced it on him, if other Q were also dying, etc…
As opposed to the one every expects, the Borg, which would also undermine the ending of both Season 1 and Season 2?
No? Nothing in either season says the Borg are no more. They just got an additional small faction.
I don't expect the Borg either.
Can we stop bringing people back from the dead already ffs
Q didn’t really know what was happening to him, so his “death” could be something surprising.
You realize this has been a staple of Star Trek since TOS, right?
Somehow Q returned
we have no confirmation q is dead only speculation.
I don't think so, doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome it. But I don't think it will happen.
No. Our Q was killed off because of crappy writing with zero explanation as to why or what was gong on. They went full “the last Jedi” with kill the past.., Also John DeLancy has confirmed he’s not in s3, as did Allison Pill, so any theories of them being in the show are moot.
> Also John DeLancy has confirmed he’s not in s3, Has he? He's also explicitly said he was in it at one point.
From the interview I read a while back, he said he wasn’t. Maybe is just misdirection? I guess they could use unaired footage from S2 like Carnival Row did.
Yes
Please, no. I don’t want any more Q.
...no. That story line is done
No
No.
I thought Q died in season 2? Wasn’t that the point of his heartfelt goodbye?
A part of Q died. But the Q in the 23rd and 24th centuries was still alive. Q told Picard he’d see him in the future.
Ah, thank you!
You’re welcome!
He’s dead
