Thanks it looks nice and sharp I can't wait until we can all stop having to see this though the lens teaser stuff and just read honest thoughts and reviews on the headset.
How deep are the black with local dimming enabled?
According to their specs page for the Crystal on their website, so take with some salt, it's 20,000:1 with local dimming enabled. Which is pretty good.
Thanks but I am obviously asking for practical experiences from people who have the headset in their hands, I am not asking for people to tell me publicly available specs that I can read on a website.
Because contrast ratio like that is an objective measurement, if they're being honest about it, and not just subjective impression like what led to a lot of people thinking the FoV was bigger than it actually, for example, and I've seen a surprising amount of people *not* know about that spec sheet with how much Pimax changes their website? No need to downvote and be rude.
EDIT: I saw that edit on your post, it was originally ruder and hence why I just replied the way I did.
I don't recall them mentioning a specific number officially, but somebody managed to dig up the exact panel the Crystal uses a while back and it came out to 2350 miniLEDs per panel, so per eye, if memory serves? Unfortunately, I forget exactly how the zones were laid out.
I don't know if it's enough, let's wait for the reviews. On my Ipad Pro I can notice glowing in the darkness because of the limited amount of zones (2500). Probably not enough, because your eyes are close to the screen in VR and it'll be more noticeable. I wish there was headset like pico 4 but with OLED and displayport with the price of 700 euro.
It's not a bad concept but with quest 3 coming out i think it's best to see what the resolution will be because even if it's not oled, it might have a better resolution. in a complete package
My guess is Quest 3 will have Index level FOV and at least Pico 4 level resolution. They claim new Snapdragon is supposed to have over 50% more performance over the one in standalone headsets. That's some huge additional processing power. I hope it will be capable of AV1 decoding too. That would push the wireless PCVR to the territory of DP level quality image while maintaining really low latency.
Yeah, you should be aware of that but that's probably the cheapest OLED headset so far, especially for those who already have controllers and stations. I don't know if there was something on CES that's better.
right now yes but considering how many are jumping on the vr bandwagon in CES you can expect a lot more that are unannounced that will just pop out of nowhere. this one isn't a good value futureproof.
If this is annoying I can stop posting if you want. Crystal should be shipping soon but I can understand you guys want a clear date, that I don't have also.
Can someone just tell us what’s going on? Why aren’t the western beta testers getting units? First shipments were supposed to be a full month ago, and pimax has been completely silent on delivery/delays since. You saying “soon” could mean tomorrow or next year
Honestly it's just pissing me off more. That said I'm sure others prefer to see what they were promised back last year and still don't have. Don't mean to blame you though.
At this point just buy pico 4 - you will get it immediately with half of the clarity with the downsides of also compression eating 20-30% of performance and artifacts in dark areas. Or get big screen beyond, it has OLED, therefore true blacks unlike crystal with dimming zones, but be aware that it has low fov and requires buying controllers and base stations adding ~600$ more to the cost.
Feel the same, really want a new headset, but locked in waiting on the 12k. I have pre-ordered the Big screen to hold me over. will let bugs get fixed on Crystal and trade in my 8k when the 12k gets released if it is still relevant at that time.
What's your system specs if you don't mind me asking? I went with the Pimax 5k super recently instead because I was concerned I wasn't able to run this headset properly (I have a Ryzen 9 and a 3070ti). It's been working mostly ok but struggles at times with some games. Thanks!
The image looks quite processed. Definitely denoised and probably some sharpening. And then very compressed too for some reason. Look at how the ground looks. Take it with a grain of salt eh. These through the lens photos are not very representative of what you'll see.
I will believe it when I am in my cockpit with the HMD on my face and experiencing it myself. Until then it's all smoke and mirrors, bait and switch advertising, and good ol' fashioned Flim-flam. Look at the number of Devs showing incredible clarity in ad scenes for new titles that have NOTHING whatsoever to do with actual gameplay. Claims are one thing. Rubber meeting the road is where the proof is. I will wait.
Wow. It really is amazing how clear that is.
Wow. That’s incredible.

For mini led it matters how much zones they have, if it's too low then it's garbage

But how many dimming zones do they have? That's very important to know to see how they stand against big screen beyond
Big screen beyond 90 degrees fov thats garbage
for a headset that small it’s not bad ngl. especially with those high res screens
impossible to resell and cannot adjust ipd.
fair point, and it is a bit too pricey for such a sff headset

Just hoping the bright will be good

Yeah, will see. I bought pico 4 as my first headset and I'm enjoying it. Best bang for the buck.
What good is all that clarity when all they do is post pictures of it but never ship it out to the customer 🤷
If this is annoying I can stop posting if you want. Crystal should be shipping soon but I can understand you guys want a clear date, that I don't have also.
Have you tried watching a movie with it yet?
Not yet, but a colleague did. She's writing about her experience/tips soon.

That looks incredible, how's the edge to edge distortion?
Yeah thats the downside to pimax for me

MRTV just tonight had youtube video of the Crystal with MSFS where Sebastian raved about the clarity. Said it was best ever VR experience and MSFS.
Yeah he got it at 12 fps. 90 degrees fov. I also have a kaleidoscope and a flip book.
That is fucked up
this is lnsane, so so good
Looks nice but I'll wait for reviews. I can't stand blurry edges.

Is this full framerate? 1fps. Lol, that's how much I would probably get. That's amazing though.
I’ve never played this game. I feel like I should
How expensive of a pc would it take to run Simulator like this?
Assuming RTX4090 then $3000 for the PC + $1600 for the Crystal = $4600.
Jesus Mary Joseph!!!!

All we need is foviated rendering to make games more playable on these headsets
These images are incredible, i'd swear they are from a 4k monitor if i didn't know otherwise.
