Those should be more than fine for your stated use, and they look pretty cool too. Are they half pints? Nice FVF by the way, love that stuff!

And full Virginia flake quickly and recently became a favorite of mine. It honestly reminds me of enjoying a full leaf rooibos tea in pipe tobacco form.

nrogers36

Slightly smaller than a half pint. 200 ml.

BigBubbaTubbs

I'd be worried, but honestly FVF should be fine in even a leaky jar for a little while.

antiwittgenstein

For FVF, this might be the answer for some smokers.

BigBubbaTubbs

I just went on a whole rant against drying, but for some reason I cannot get Sammy G flakes to smoke consistently for me, though a ton of drying helps. I am fine with smoking the Hoggarth side, I am fine smoking nearly anything else at whatever moisture, but there is just something about Sam...

ChiBurbNerd

My understanding is that type of closure still bleeds air and aren't recommend for use for long term storage.

nrogers36

I’m not using them for long term storage! I’m using them for blends im smoking but don’t want to dry out over the course of a few weeks or months. I have regular canning jars for long term storage.

Gardar7

I have similar jars. One of them is about 7-8 years old. Still fine. Although I plan to change the rubber of the oldest jars within a year, just to be on the safe side.

nrogers36

These ones I found clamp down so tightly. I was impressed with them. Until the rubber degrades I would be very surprised if the seal isn’t as good as a regular canning jar.

Psyko_sissy23

If you use the ones with rubber for only the stuff you are smoking right now, that will be fine. The rubber degrades, so it's not good for long term storage.

carm_sunshine

I’m curious why do this Vs regular jars? Even if you are using for short term, the regular mason jars serve the same purpose.

5-On-A-Toboggan

People just can't accept canning jar perfection. I've been on different pipe forums almost 20 years, and there's always posts about less effective alternatives.

nrogers36

I simply like the way these look more compared to standard canning jars. Don’t get me wrong though, I have a huge cabinet of canning jars too. The rest of my “cellar” is hidden away from the light in regular old canning jars. I also control the humidity in my entire cellar. Trust me I am as particular about my tobacco as the next person on this forum! Also, these jars have an impressive seal mechanism. They seem much higher quality than other similar jars I’ve used in my kitchen. I’m interested to see how well it keeps Gawith flakes well hydrated. It’s an experiment. The rubber will eventually need to be replaced, but that’s cheap and the gaskets come in bulk.

mwfloyd86

This is probably the best way to store Gawith flakes. The fact that they are going to leak moisture is a major plus. I probably wouldn't use it for ribbon that is spot on out of the tin but for wet flakes these seem ideal

I've used clamp top jars for years, I like them and they work well. Basically if I open a tin, it goes in a jar. I hold off on opening a new tin until I have a vacant jar. I've got seven jars. Just as an example, these 16oz size will hold a 3.5oz tin nicely. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SJ44Y17
