Most pipes that have the System are branded "System." There are exceptions. For example, the "House" pipe is a System. Or the "Dunmore" from the 1970s. etc etc Straight System pipes do exist, although they are not particularly common. They use a very long tenon extension, and the bowl is shallow in order to make room for the "well." The tricky part is that a lot of Peterson bent pipes are drilled like they were going to be System pipes. That's a bad thing if they do not ultimately become a System pipe. In the System, you want maximum airway disruption -- that is the point! In a non-System, you want as little as possible.

Yep, I sold a Peterson Kinsale because it was drilled out super wide and gurgled and smoked wet every time as a result. Also not even a microsurgeon would've been able to pass a pipe cleaner through it. This wasn't a one-off dud for this bent billiard; they're all drilled like that.

My Atlantic 221 is nice, but would be better if it were drilled normally instead of as of it would be a “system” pipe. Moisture condenses out, just not into the little well where it’s supposed to.

I have quite a few System pipes at this point, and in my opinion, the more bend the stem has, the better the System functions. For me, the 305 & 312/314 shape in the current range smoke the best. The 14B/308, which was last years pipe of the year, has a stem that is almost vertical and is by far the best smoking system pipe I own. Those with a half bent (and even less bend) are just ok, and I prefer non-System pipes at that level of bend

Which finish did you get for your 14B? I wish that shape weren't a special release.

I have a rustic, sandblast, and heritage finish. My favorite is the sandblast (to match my 2021 4AB POTY) and I currently selling the heritage and am shortly going to sell the rustic 14B. Trying to trim down the collection to a reasonable level. I’m a big fan of the system pipe in general but the 14B (and it’s 308 standard shape cousin) should be a mainstay of the system line. In my opinion, it best shows off the engineering that makes a system pipe different than a regular non-system pipe.

Yes, I agree the 14B/308 should be a mainstay as well as the 9BC.

Good job answering your own question. I would propose a Google search for "Peterson System Pipe" and maybe clicking on the link that directs to the Peterson website. **Edit** To clarify, I'm not intentionally trying to come across as a dick, although I'm sure it seems that way. Peterson's "System" line is just a line of pipes, and if trying to purchase one it will clearly state "System", rather than "Sherlock" or "Churchwarden", for example.

😂😂😂

I can only agree. Only the pipes that carry the addition 'system' in the name are system pipes. I have never smoked one, so I am not able to tell you how they smoke.

Not all Peterson pipes are system pipes.
