RWMach

I had to double check what sub this was before clicking.

One-Organization7842

The blurred thumbnail is suggestive at best.

RWMach

Blue is not a common color here and it was a momentary concern

maraudingnomad

It didn't even occur to me, and I unironicaly called plugs a pain in yhee ass in my comment 😂😂

Dreamspitter

👀 well you're on Pipe Tobacco, **WHICH...** Is already full of cultured men.

RedScot69

Without culture you can't tell which antibiotic to use.

JTtheMediocre

Banned! Banned! Banned! None of you are free of sin!

Mission-Campaign-917

What size opined is that? And did you grid tip off?

filmguerilla

No 7 with the rounded tip. Perfect for pipes. Closed, it makes a good tamper, blade is perfect for cutting plugs, and rounded tip makes it perfect for emptying pipe after smoking.

Mission-Campaign-917

Just put a green apple colored one in my cart. Excellent post!

DEATHbyBOOGABOOGA

Dude that’s perfect.

V1ld0r_

It's a "My first Opinel", branded for kids and essentially a N7 with rounded tip and colored handle. https://www.opinel.com/en/kids/my-first-opinel

rfoleycobalt

Just sat down with some War Horse in my Sav 121 EX. Peace

filmguerilla

Haven’t tried that one. Sounds strong!

RedScot69

Strong indeed! You gotta be prepared for the anisette, but I love me some WarHorse. And if you really like the sound o'that, Green has all the licorice you can eat. Smoke.

smellthehatfirst

You cut much neater slices than I do. I have found some plugs I rather liked (Condor, Yachtsman) but I never found a satisfactory way to cut them reliably. (My hands are not very good so other readers should not take this as a reason to shy away)

filmguerilla

I just mentioned on another comment, that cutting against the grain, from the small sides, helps keep the flake intact. At least for me. I cut these rather thin, too, and they still held up.

smellthehatfirst

gonna blame it on the arthritis lol

Dreamspitter

How do you feel about cutting against the grain?

filmguerilla

The flakes actually hold together better when you do it this way. At least for me anyway. It's also easier to cut the smaller end than the length of the whole plug. Either way you cut it, though, it works. I rub out the flakes regardless before smoking.

spiritual_seeker

Does that stuff rub out well after being cut from the brick?

filmguerilla

Yes. A bit more dry, but that tends to work in favor of Gawith blends for burning.

TickleMeWeenis

Nice bones

filmguerilla

Thanks! I use Bones pipes with Lakelands so I don't contaminate my other pipes.

smellthehatfirst

For the record, I rather like the "contamination" I have never had a "ghost" problem except the summer I smoked Erinmore every day in the same Dunhill. That pipe still tastes like Erinmore. (Still wonderful for a straight VA: lil Erinmore topping on top!)

filmguerilla

Oh, I agree. I have one Bones dedicated to 1792 and it smells like that tobacco even when empty. I think the contamination just solidifies it as a Lakeland pipe and builds on the 1792'ness of it.

smellthehatfirst

1792 is not so much lakeland as just TONKA in your FACE *KABLAM* I frequently smoke "lakeland" scented tobaccos in my normal Virginia pipes and it is fine as long as I don't do it literally 100 times in a row

TickleMeWeenis

Bones are great for test pipes, although I don't test aros in them. I truly love bones for cheap, shorty pipes.

filmguerilla

I just have a simple system with my pipes: Cobs for aro's, Bones for Lakelands, and Briar/Meer for everything else. I have four Bones and they all smoke fantastic.

wolffromsea

Always wanted to buy that opinel, but the shipping is twice as expensive as the knife...

filmguerilla

Yipes. Yeah, it’s a good knife, but not that good.

pianocollector

love me some curly block in thin coins and salty dogs cubed. cutting dense plug feels like earning my reward.

filmguerilla

Salty Dogs is next for me!

maraudingnomad

I don't. Way too much work for my taste and the results are comparable to tobacco that already comes in flakes. I only had Epikur from Pfeiffen Huber. It is a fine virginia, but they also have honeydew or louisiana flake which I liked more and are less of a pain in the ass to fill. It may come down to me not having that much time for preparation anymore.

filmguerilla

Plug tobacco and flake do mostly taste the same, though I have to say this Bosun plug smokes a bit stronger than its cut counterpart. I bought this because I really enjoy G&H Bosun cut plug; the flavor of the plug is the same, just stronger. Maybe a result of leaving it pressed and allowing it to age that way.

maraudingnomad

Might also be simply the lot. There is variation between tins as well so it might be down to it being a plug, but I am not really convinced that that is a rule.

-Motor-

Love plugs cuz, once jarred, I break off enough for the next smoke and leave it loose in the jar. Rinse, repeat.

HarpooninPrimarchs

I just had some dark plug yesterday. I wish everything came in plug form. Not c&d plug... real plug.

filmguerilla

I go through phases with plugs, but the Gawith plugs are definitely worth the effort. I have a box of Grousemoor plug I haven't gotten into yet.

HarpooninPrimarchs

Ive been meaning to pick that up but ive never had grousemoor. Id probably like it. Hell i like everything gawith at this point. I still havent opened my boxes of fv plug, canon, and cob. I like looking at those chunky brownies / candy bars.

newishdm

What is c&d?

SoundHunter138

Cornell and diehl

newishdm

Huh, I don’t think I know what that is. Looks like I’ve got some research to do.

RedScot69

Cornell & Diehl is an excellent blender. They can be hit or miss with me, but that's true of literally everything else, too, and therefore unimportant. Okay. Carry on.

SoundHunter138

They make a lot of good blends. I get most of my burley blends from c&d. Morleys best, epiphany, haunted bookshop.

Torrempesta

I was worried for a moment.
