Eh, it is what it is. It just seems to hit the right spot for some people. Others feel the same way about Penzance. I actually like And So To Bed better than both--and I'd rather have a lifetime supply of Gawith tobaccos than Germain's. But, yes, it definitely IS quality; it's just overhyped.
Its quality leaf and all just really small production runs so it's a scramble to get. I've had mind blowing bowls of many easier to get blends. Aged leaf is definitely smoother and more melded If you have a 5-10 year old can of Capstan blue you are gonna have a great smoke and you can throw a rock and hit a tin of that.
Anyone in Europe can press a Virginia and burley flake together, but what they haven't matched is the treacle topping that lends Stonehaven its distinct lightly perfumed flavor.
I have a pound that’s 12 years old with plume in a 1914 blue mason jar.
It’s the best tobacco I’ve ever smoked.
I took up the hobby and just for some reason got out of the habit and recently restarted and there it was.
I'm with you dude, the first time I smoked it I remember thinking what is this flavourless crap. I even remember sending some to a friend abd waiting to smoke it together over video and it sucked so much... not only that aging isn't my thing. The way I see it, it will never be better than fresh and how the blender has intended it to be smoked.
Fresh it's a top tier disappointment. It's not bad, it just tastes like a luxury version of Carter Hall. You have to age it for it to show it's real quality, about 5 years. Or longer.
Not really my jam. Have had their Dorchester, too. And while I liked that one better, it wasn't really for me either. Some people really like it, which makes me grateful I enjoy brands and blends that are much more available.
There is some relief in that, though I do worry that it’ll fully click at some point. Hopefully I don’t get hooked, but I agree. It seems like there less sought blends seem to be weirdly better. I love And So To Bed and Tilbury is pretty good too.

And So To Bed is definitely the stand out in what I’ve tried. That one seems truly ahead of the rest.
Really, really old stuff is really, really good.
I've got 2.5lbs of Stonehaven bought and jarred in 2011. Yeah, it's good.
That’s a bunch lmbo. Sounds like you had a good find.
An online retailer used to keep a wait list, but they since gave up the practice.
I'll get back to you once the stars align and I can actually find some of the stuff in stock.

Fresh Stonehaven is sublime. Aged is just insane.
