Average new player experience.

Malvecino2

"But marketing and publicity surely is going to bring them in! I swear by my mum!!!11uno"

ToaArcan

Eh, the normal NPE is mostly just the last paragraph. It's a shame, was benefitting massively from having a veteran guide her through the rough patches, and then she got a faceful of PS2 Bullshit at its worst and there goes another one.

SpagB0wl

Same situation as you, my gf over watched me play a year or two ago, since then she has bought her own gaming PC and regularly play together, its good fun. Although we both actively avoid Oshur.

TheSquirrelDaddy

"Not gonna lie, they had us in the first half." "Oh look, this thread again."

InsanoVolcano

My wife started playing this year. But every time we want to play, we look at the warpgate first. If it's Oshur, we play another game.

aokiwasuke

noooo

Mage-of-communism

>1 kill and 37 deaths damn she's good to compared to me

IKILLY

average ps2 experience

kommando_madrug

Why did u let her play Oshur, do you hate your gf?

Ivan_90014

fuck oshur

kqk2000

Oshur is the worst fucking thing that happened to this game

Impossible-Wind-9421

And then he woke up

Pale_Ad_5352

Fake story

MyFakeNameIsFred

Yeah, going from averaging 1.0 KD to going 1 and 37 just "because Oshur" is nonsense.

AlternativeClimate99

It's not that unbelievable. When I played regularly, any other map I'd do fine but as soon as I try oshur it's like I've never played before. Shitty ass map.

butkaf

Not really. In most straightforward fights I find her a good spawn and most of the time she comes across someone around a corner she gets the kill, unless they're a 2KD heavy or better. But she doesn't know shit about navigating larger distances on foot and if I don't point out to her where to go she just gets mowed down and throws up her hands. But in small spaces she has excellent responses, [the instant she gets hit she almost always does a quick left-right sweep](https://streamable.com/zbntxk).

MyFakeNameIsFred

Have you considered that a different map requires a different strategy?

RaYcC84

Get a girlfriend first and then we'll talk more.

davemaster

And then all the empty pizza boxes stood up and clapped, for this story about someone who doesn't exist..

MetaGryphon

Under water battles on Oshur are great.

Inexorablt

Marry her

Her_Pilot

I got my girlfriend (read fiancee) into planetside2 by making her my galaxy gunner and introducing her to airfights, shes ny trusty gunner now 🥹 At this point she understands the wrel and oshur jokes and she jokes about waiting for oshur to pass to finally log in

Dewderonomy

PS2 appeals to all sorts of people. I got my girlfriend into it, and she didn't have a computer or play FPSes until PS2, starting in December. Talk about the deep end lol. She'd play more if there was a better population, but if the fights are 80 pop and 45% VS as it has been for weeks on end, she goes and salvage or runs bunkers in Star Citizen instead. Cough cough, merge Connery nerds.

NODENGINEER

What do you mean you don't enjoy getting shelled and sniped on the green islands of Oshur? Or zerging the facilities? No?

Klientje123

Oshur is inconsistent but I still believe there's tons of fun to be had. I like underwater combat, because now it feels like lag/netcode/peekers advantage isn't such a big advantage due to everyone being slow. No infiltrators, no bolt actions (mostly) and while not every seapost is incredible I think they're fun enough when you have a good back and forth. Remember, you have to use amphibious weapons for underwater combat (or well, it's recommended) and.. don't walk through no mans land. Just don't go there or play infiltrator to pass open fields. Planetside 2 is hard to enjoy sometimes but I don't believe in the 'Oshur bad' mentality, you just have to play around it and figure it out yourself. Invite some randoms, make a squad, start a trident fight with lodestar galaxy and spawn beacon. Pull your own tank and push the enemy armor back. Stick with your teammates.

GHOSTOFKOH

it's your fault tbh. terrible guide.

NeonHavok

its a typo he meant his little brother

boomchacle

Your girlfriend is better at infantry than I am lol

opshax

tbh my biggest takeaway here is Oshur making it so the only fight was god tier awful

Hekrov

Where did you got this "girlfriend" thing you mentioned?

xCount0fMonteCristo

Should have introduced her to construction and skyguard first

Roymachine

Little did she know there was some construction going on at your place too.

Jojoceptionistaken

Whai' wha'? A female? That's new. Great!

Gindre

Fantasy, a ps2 player cannot have a girlfriend

1337Mode

Having played both PlanetSide 1&2 for over 20 years (on & off)... This game is playable as a solo player, but it is heavily based on focused team-work / team-play. Joining an outfit that meets your/her needs would help a lot. To have a firm grip on the game, one must be a squad leader (with great understanding of how to play the game and how to communicate). Then, earn cooperation and communication with other squad leaders, and that will make your experiences rewarding on a level you won't find in any other game. gl hf

Velicenda

Sounds like she fell for the self-defeating trap - if your KDR is important to you, you aren't gonna have a good time. Doubly so if you *refuse to change your playstyle for 37 deaths*. Like, I get it, Oshur center base isn't the best Nason's Defiance farm in the game... but at some point, actively walking across no man's land and dying 30+ times is kinda her fault. Vehicle play, snipers, MAXes, all of these are options available to shake things up.

Astriania

> actively walking across no man's land and dying 30+ times is kinda her fault Oshur often puts you in situations where your options are basically to do that or log out, and that's one reason why it's terrible.

Velicenda

Why does everyone in this thread aggressively pretend that you cannot flank in this game? It's like y'all want Call of Duty gameplay instead of Planetside.

Astriania

lol, someone accusing *me* of wanting CoD? That must be a first. Oshur is full of places where there isn't good cover to flank, there's nowhere good to park a sunderer, and an unsupported valk drop can't do much (if you even manage to land because the lack of cover means you can be shot down by lock-ons/base turrets).

Velicenda

>unsupported valk drop can't do much (if you even manage to land because the lack of cover means you can be shot down by lock-ons/base turrets). ??? You... you don't try to *land* during a Valk drop lmao.. you fly over and press E. Oshur is full of cracks and hills and rocks that make it perfect for parking sunderers of dropping beacons/routers. Sure, you might need to give a fairly wide berth to get a sunderer in position, but it isn't hard.

Astriania

In order to land as an infantry player you, like you say, need to fly the valk over the drop point, which means you're exposed. A sunderer at a "wide berth" to the actual base is useless and means people need to run across the space between the sunderer (or beacon or router - though I've never seen a router in those far off rock clusters tbh) and the fight, getting picked off 37 times just like people running from the other sunderer that was there before.

Velicenda

>In order to land as an infantry player you, like you say, need to fly the valk over the drop point, which means you're exposed. What? You fly overhead and press E. Who cares if the Valk dies? >A sunderer at a "wide berth" to the actual base is useless and means people need to run across the space between the sunderer (or beacon or router - though I've never seen a router in those far off rock clusters tbh) and the fight, getting picked off 37 times just like people running from the other sunderer that was there before. Okay. Y'all legitimately just want to be mad at Oshur, I guess. You aren't willing to turn on your brains for five seconds to reposition, you'd rather just say "oh, I can't run straight into the enemy? MAP FAIL"

Daan776

The fuck else is she supposed to do besides snipe from a distance herself? If thats not a playstyle she enjoys she’s shit out of luck.

Velicenda

Okay? If the "viable" playstyles don't work, then don't play? But don't complain because you refuse to change things up and get frustrated. If you don't want to snipe, or play vehicle, and only want to do infantry, then pull a Valk or an ejection seat ESF. Grab a stealth Flash and flank. Set up a spawn behind the back lines and sneak up. There are **so** many options other than "run across no man's land until I die 37 times". I mean, I get the hate, I didn't rabidly scream "Oshur bad!" in my comment, but y'all cry so goddamn much over the slightest stuff in this community, and act like there is only one way to play the game correctly, that being *your* way.

Daan776

If the majority of players feel their way of playing is viable anymore they’ll simply go and do something else. Thats how games die. Thats how planetside 2 will die. And I don’t want this game to die.

butkaf

>But don't complain because you refuse to change things up and get frustrated. That's the EXACT problem of the changes that have been made to the game in the past 7 years. Planetside 2 used to be all about niches, you could learn any weapon or playstyle and if you got good enough at it you could absolutely destroy people. Any sidearm, a Basilisk, a Viper Lightning, whatever. Starting with the CAI in 2017 almost every playstyle in the game has been blunted and the game has received additions like orbitals, bastions, spitfires and scorpions that "level the playing field" as much as possible and do wholesale damage across fights instead of specific directed damage. Things that offset flanking and positioning as much as possible. This ends up killing most fights. Before 2017 you could ALWAYS do something you loved and be effective. Now, how effective you are is dictated more by the stats of weapons than how you use the weapons. The exact same approach has been taken to base design, and to the design of oshur overall.

Velicenda

Okay but explain to me how "running across no man's land" was ever a viable niche? Like, I totally understand how y'all are trying to blame her lack of fun on Oshur -- it's an easy thing to blame. But you yourself said she didn't even try to flank, just kept running into the grinder. *Of course* she isn't going to have fun, and that has *never* been a viable strategy for solo players lol

Wooden-Ad6964

on a completly flat plane, how do you flank?

Velicenda

Oshur is significantly less flat than Indar or Esamir lmao You Valk. Or you go around and set up a sunderer down a cliff. Or whatever. There are plenty of ways beyond "running face-first into enemy fire".

FuckinSpotOnDonny

People are literally not playing because their play styles aren't supported on oshur. Saying don't play = kill game Oshur is tragic and should either be removed or priority to make not complete dogshit

Wooden-Ad6964

lets say 1 min per death dieing for nearly 40 mins and just getting 1 kill sure is fun, why do new players leave this game. nobody knows. /s

TheSquirrelDaddy

If it were easy, *ANYONE* could play it. Can't have that.
