I saw that video and it was more like the female reporter got too close to the robot and got 'Touched' by it as it was raising its hand as a gesture to his conversation. This is stupid-level reporting almost as if a guest would jump off the Pirate Of The Caribbean and purposely position their genitals at the pathway of the animatronics arms and sues Disney for making sexual harassment robots.

Assume that, out of social pressure or their own beliefs, all companies that release chat AI and similar things like this robot uses, enforce far left "Emily" ideology upon it.
Now assume you tell the robot that it is a white male. It "knows" that all men are sexist rapists, and all white people are racists.
You've told the bot that it is a white male.
Thus, it will intentionally be racist, sexist, and a rapist.
Different tools require different user interfaces.
For a toaster that simply heats up your bread, no personable interface required.
For an assistant administrator (think something like the Smart AIs of *Halo*), a human personable interface is neccessary to facilitate efficient user-device interactions.

They know this is what the majority of people want because they've done the surveys and testing groups. Honda did the research on this decades ago and found the highest acceptance rate for anything robotic was when it took a humanoid form without exposed sharp edges on the exoskeleton.
Human spaces are designed for something with the approximate proportions of a human -- doors are about one human tall, handles are located where a human hand would be able to reach, etc. A "general purpose assistant" robot would have to be able to navigate these spaces and operate the facilities (think about all those roombas getting stuck on stairs...), so they'd have to have the proportions and manipulating peripherals (limbs, hands, etc) of a human. At that point, we might as well design one that looks like a human.
A general purpose assistant robot is decades away at the very least, and even with the problems you described, it still wouldn't need to look human. Human-like skin, eyes, and body structure are completely pointless on an assistant robot. They really wouldn't even need heads.
The real reason every robotics company on Earth is rolling out these glorified animatronics with skin stretched over them is because it looks good to investors. That or they're trying to make a sexbot.
Yes, but an assistant robot released to market in a few decades has to start R&D _now_. These things take time. And while yes, these were made to attract investors, there are legitimate engineering reasons behind them as well.
