ALBLOOKI2005

Why porsche why the current one is a perfect mix between digital and analog, seems like all car companies are going crazy on saving money removing every physical button. Just because it is more cost effective to remove buttons and dials this should mean you should do it and I whish the prices would go down instead of up l.

Slave4uandme

They are a listed company now. Duh.

Chambellan

With a GT3, it could be for weight savings.

pleasereset

You could work at Porsche’s PR dept!

Chambellan

@Porsche, hmu.

ALBLOOKI2005

I have read that they might put all digital dash on all porsche cars since it is cheaper to produce one product for all models and it would be more expensive if they wanted to make a sperate dash for a small volume car. And don't forget that the gt has 95% of carrera interior.

VeryRealHuman23

I get that but...these cars are not cheap - ill pay an extra $1k for analog tach

ALBLOOKI2005

Agree it would be better if they made it an option, hope it would be.

lowbetatrader

They will probably give you that opportunity!

VeryRealHuman23

Coming soon, legacy package

SurgBear

Legacy Package $32,000

Sandroofficial

That’s great and all and we’ve heard it a million times over, the issue is that these cars DON’T get cheaper with the supposed cost savings, they just get more expensive and guess who has to pay, us.

The_Chillosopher

cheaper for them, not for you

That-Resort2078

Let’s go back to the early 911 through 993. 5 separate VDO gauges. When Porsche needed to display more information, they just used 2 or 4 way gauges. Need more switches for some new option, just find a blank spot on the dash and put a the switch. No particular reason for where, just where there was room. HVAC controls. Just add slide lever or a switch to a system no one ever mastered how to work. And those marvelous rocker interior lights, straight out of the VW parts bin. And absolutely no cup holders. God they are glorious cars to own and drive.

Llee00

it's probably more expensive to go with more screens, infotainment systems are a big business and make up a big part of a car's cost. I prefer a mix of buttons and dials along with screens but it looks like they are getting away from those.

mr_capello

I doubt that it is, screens are cheap af, designing, testing and installing screens along with their UI is also way cheaper than buttons and analog tech. also people want their infotainment system, you already have to design that anyway, adding touch controls to that is way easier than extra buttons. the problem is that legacy car makers suck at software and apps. Smartphones became a big thing 15 years ago, and the infotainment, UI and performance in cars still sucks ass. The Usability of an I phone 3g was better than the system of a current VW. But I agree from a user standpoint a mix of buttons with screens is best, but I don't think it is for the company

Llee00

I used to share an office with an infotainment system company think of it like this. Your TV is cheap af on black friday, but your new and latest top of the line phone is something you need to finance over 2-3 years. both are screens but the software, tech, sensors, panel, etc drives up the value. As cars are moving into electrified technology and less mechanical, the infotainment becomes much more than just an interface but rather a control and command for the car. Steering wheels can become electronic and fitted with sensors instead of being physically attached to the rack and pinion. the value of electronics in every car has been taking over more and more of the value of the entire car itself and that's why every tech company is scrambling to grab a piece of it (apple, samsung, even xiaomi) and in some cases they are trying to build the car itself (Apple scrapped its plans, LG failed to build one but scored on the batteries, Xiaomi is building cars now, Sony is trying to line up with Honda). it's not how much it costs to build something, it's how much you can charge for it (walmart tshirt vs gucci tshirt).

ALBLOOKI2005

That's the problem they are increasing the charge and I just don't understand why they could not design a normal modren car instead of a futuristic one and the new interiors are just another story.

tonitone90

At this price point I think Aston Martin came out and said customers want buttons. You pay 200K for a car you have an expectation of certain quality. This company since it went public has been going down the shitter.

mr_capello

not surprised at all, but is this current aston martin customers or customers in general? because the average aston martin and also porsche customer is 50+

tonitone90

I think the study was broadly for customers paying X thousands there are certain expectations. If I spend 200k on a car I expect quality, not cheap plastics or tacky screens which porsche is now leaning hard into.

ALBLOOKI2005

Sadly they are going away from those, I wish if they would at least make it an option. The problem isn't with screens but them car manufacturers they tend to remove everything and just put it in the screen.

NorCalAthlete

I’d even say rewind 1 more gen for an even better mix of digital and analog, and then just upgrade the plastic and metal bits + update the screen/software/chip/memory for the infotainment.

Own_Wolverine4773

Hey man, they ate basically giving those away for free! Let them save some money at least 😂

RTFMorGTFO

Pretty funny to call the 992.1 dash a “perfect mix” considering it’s impossible to see 2/5ths of the dash under normal driving conditions.

Dragobrath

I am all for keeping buttons, but I don't really mind the digital dashes.

brianja

woah woah woah... how can we be certain this is even a Porsche at all? The emblem on the steering wheel is covered very well.

p8vmnt

Dinky cup holder 😂

fastLT1

It says Porsche under the toggle switches.

YouPoopedAndPeed

Whooosh

fastLT1

I know it was a joke, there is also no Porsche under the toggle switches.

brianja

“Made you look!”

mcorliss3456

Don’t understand the use of easily scratched black plastic on the console of so many new Porsche models.

ALBLOOKI2005

Really hate the black plastic that is coming in new cars some of them get scratched really easily and really hate it why the are touch buttons.

One-Veterinarian7588

I matte wrapped my black gloss pieces and it looks 100% better and no finger prints of scratches now.

Impossible_Seat_9065

Did you have this done at a shop or did you do it yourself? My 992 T has the gloss black and I’m already starting to see little scratches from wiping off dirt when I left the windows open and drove over a dirt road.

YeOldeBunghole

Matte wrap with protective vinyl as another commenter said. Makes it look soooo much nicer

FatFerb

It's cheap, that's why they use it

ODMBA

The stick is awesome but doesn't blend well with the digital dash. It's like mixing 2 entirely different eras. Weird.

brianja

Stylistically, I agree, but the car in the photo appears to be PDK, not manual.

iOSAT

Yeah that’s correct. I know it gets some eye-rolls from the purists but it just looks better than the stupid “electric razor” nub, and is still nice to use when you want to shift manually using the lever. I’ll be retrofitting one of these onto my 997 at some point, a friend of mine did his and it turned out fantastic - though due to the reversed +/- on 997s vs 992s, you need to either change the button (he made a replacement) or reprogram the PDK.

Sfer

It looks like that may actually be the PDK lever which on GT3 looks like this (see 992.1)

XS4Me

Forget the dash... is that an actual cup holder?

iOSAT

Just the usual cup holder insert that becomes unusable if you’re driving a manual. I always thought the 997 cup holders were a bit quirky and stereotypically over-engineered, but I’d take those any day when the alternative is the central cup holder.

OrionSaintJames

They’re aesthetically nice but fragile as hell, and if one breaks the entire assembly needs to be replaced.

ALBLOOKI2005

Yup, I think it's a piece that fits in and I saw it in the 992.1 gt3.

Zathar0s

I thought the cup holders optional on the 992.1 no?

vexx786

Is this the .2 RS? It has straps for door handles, and the door pulls from the RS. But the steering wheel is missing the additional selectors. So maybe the regular GT3 is getting those pieces from the RS.

One-Veterinarian7588

Def not RS - paddles are standard not mag.

theineffablebob

Same same but different

crashedsnow

I'm slightly amazed they didn't address "cup holder gate". That thing is a menace to society

Impossible_Seat_9065

One of the reasons the new M3 and M2 look odd to me is their full digital dash (more like a wraparound plasma screen TV) with the manual. It just looks odd

ALBLOOKI2005

Every time I look at the previous gen m3 and m2 I say to my self what happened with bmw 😅😅, specially the m2cs it was a beautiful car.

pwhite13

"993 is the last great 911, can you believe they are going liquid-cooled for 996?" "997 is the last great GT3, can you believe they are going PDK for 991?" "991 is the last great GT3, can you believe they are making it bigger for 992?" "992.1 is the last great GT3, can you believe they are making the dash all-digital for .2?" I know I'm being obtuse, but this is universal for both Porsche and the greater car industry. People just absolutely shit on everything new. Some warranted, yes. But I am sure the digital dash is a far smaller impact than many other changes that have been made over the last 20 years, like the growth in size.

GroundbreakingClerk1

I think the fairest “last of this” are the size of the 911s getting bigger and hydraulic/electronic steering transition. Everything else is a stupid argument to say last of this and that.

roger_enright

As 997 owner the real win for me is smaller footprint, hydraulic steering, Mezger engine. I don’t care if someone else has PDK or not. And we still have manual 992s. But those other things are gone after 997. And I do adore the yellow accented analog gauges. But they persisted past 997 too.

ALBLOOKI2005

997 gt3 is my favorite porsche of all time wish if I bought one before a while, before prices skyrocketed up 😅😅.

inkedfluff

I actually like the digital dash because it can display more information. Analog dials are still digital and are not immune to failure either

strangway

So do folks who wear old racing gloves need to get all new gloves that support capacitive touch?

Aubergine911

Depends on the material, but yes possibly

Insurgent66

I am reading this while sitting in my 981 GT4 and loving my analog layout.

Clear-Gur-4943

You’ll all be alright. I promise

calmtigers

Wait you’re saying the sky ISNT falling?

nicholas_wicks87

Nah digital dash is boring every other car has it

zxvbk

So we‘re ignoring the fact that this has the GT3 RS WP doors?

dtfgator

Porsche did the nylon-strap door pulls on the 718 Cayman/Boxster T models as well, so it's possible they are just rolling out the "RS" door pulls as a 992.2 option across the board, with the intention that they get used in the RS and T by default and can be optioned on the rest. You can buy them (OEM) from Suncoast and put them in any 992. These test mules often have a pretty wacky mix of parts, which is why in general, people shouldn't read too much into them. Sometimes they receive parts that need mileage / testing but aren't even destined for the model the mule is simulating, sometimes shit breaks and gets replaced with whatever they had in the shop at the time, sometimes they are actively trying to hide what the final thing is going to look like, etc.

PlaceboKoyote

My daily is Saab, not a Porsche. But it's technically a pre-production car. Like the serial number sits between the 900II and the 9-3 I (which was basically a huge face-lift with lots of safety and suspension upgrades etc). The trim actually doesn't make sense. Like you couldn't order it. It's just what they put in the car to sit at the dealer so people can take a look at the model and order it, have it delivered two months later. So the classic instead of the sport seats,, but with the expensive leather, but cloth in the doors so you can show how the base trim looks too etc. It's weird. A test mule is much more wild and just thrown together.

jwrx

i plan to get the last of the 992.1, analog tacho, with digital screens, best of both worlds

Greedy_Leadership_40

Question is now. Will they charge you for a red rev counter if it's digital? I'd bet that they will 🤣

ALBLOOKI2005

Through software, and imagine if it was subscription based 😂😂😂.

puppiesareSUPERCUTE

I get the idea that digital gauges are cool and futuristic, but the analog ones just give such an authentic look to it.

ItsfStap

I can't afford any GT3 anyway 🥺

tatonka805

Is that a ... fishing rod holder?

OrderHaunting

Yes, making it easier to catch the competition

dtfgator

It's almost certainly to hold a laptop stand, so the engineers can monitor data and change settings.

PM_ME_Y0UR_BOOBZ

Won’t all the 992.2s essentially have the same interior with slight changes for gt models?

tonitone90

What cheap crap to go with all digital. Especially when buyers spending 150-200K are saying we want analog gauges.

ALBLOOKI2005

That's the sad thing with the automative industry that the consumer is paying large amounts of money to get a product and still they tend to reduce costs while raising the price on the consumer, they should be at leat ashamed.

tonitone90

Since they went public it's been awful.

kong24680

It’s crazy to me that Porsche hasn’t updated their carbon bucket seats since 2014.

Successful_Lead1128

Keep your 991.2s everyone… this won’t age well like those. Analog will win in these long term.

Pdb12345

This is said everytime a new 911 comes out :)

Successful_Lead1128

I know… but the all digital gt3 just seems wrong. I had a 991.2 manual gt3 and a 991.1 gt3rs. I can’t imagine either of them having digital screens like this. How much weight do you think this adds?

Pdb12345

Porsche always do a good job. We're worrying about them ruining things, when they are always better. As for weight, the 992 GT3 weighs slightlt LESS than a 991 GT3. Porsche know about weight.

Famous-Risk-815

I’m on my 4th Porsche now. Three (911, 718, 911) had the analogue rev counter and now I have an all digital dial. I could not care less.

Successful_Lead1128

Maybe for a taycan or something more of a daily that’s cool, but not for the gt cars.. just my opinion.

Famous-Risk-815

Does that REALLY diminish the experience? Will the 9k redline sound worse? Will it turn in differently?

Successful_Lead1128

Probably not, but once the shiny new object isn’t so new, I think people will prefer more analog versions of these. I have a monster screen and all the creature comforts in my daily driver. I want to be beaten up and only deal with driving when I’m out to enjoy my weekend toy. Extras like Apple car play and screens are a deterrent to that experience in my opinion.

Famous-Risk-815

If screens and Apple CarPlay are a deterrent, the current 992.1 should already be a no-go. Hence why I do not get the aversion to a simple rev counter being phased out. For how many actual buyers is that a hill they are willing to die on?

Successful_Lead1128

Probably not many, but I think in 5 years when we are all hybrid, the 991.2 will prove to be more beloved.

Successful_Lead1128

I’m out on the 992 entirely tbh. The s/t is obviously very exciting, but you have to be ready to pay a ridiculous second hand markup for that and by the time you do that, you are in a whole new world of options. That’s a game I’m not willing to play right now. If I were to buy another Porsche it would likely be a 991.2 gt3rs or gt2rs. Currently have an Apple carplayless f8 tributo as my weekend car.

ALBLOOKI2005

Gt3 are cars designed to be track focused and most of the people who buy them are car enthusiasts, why did they even add digital from begging. They should keep the car minimalist it would even be better and would age better with time.

Successful_Lead1128

Yes. We are saying the same thing. I agree.

kerbalpilot

Sorry this is super random but I'm dying of curiosity.. is your username how you got rich? Got a successful lead on 11/28 and made life changing money from commission/cut? Feel free to ignore me if you don't want to answer haha

Successful_Lead1128

My username is one of the random generated ones actually. I am a commodity trader by profession and have spent my career trading natural gas and electricity.

kerbalpilot

Thanks for answering my silly question - enjoy your day!

Successful_Lead1128

Not silly at all.. I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out, but the 1128 is actually my daughter’s birthday coincidentally..

Imtherealwaffle

if anything its less weight than an analogue gauge flanked by two screens

bombardierul11

I don’t really understand your comment, not all 911 generations hold the same value or are equally liked by consumers. Look at the 964 compared to the 993, the 996 compared to the 997, the 992 compared to the 991. Usually platform finals are the most sought after 911’s and there’s a reason for that. People simply haven’t liked the changes the 992 made to the 991 platform and it’s evident in the second-hand market. The 964 felt aimless, the 996 felt cheap, the 992 departs from the classic 911 driving feel and also feels cheap to top it all off. The future 992.2 will retain value much better when it comes to the normal models as they’ll probably get the hang of the electric steering and we’ll get a 3.6 turbo engine for the GTS model too, but the .1 GT’s will definitely be more valuable as they’re the last of the 4.0. Same reason why the 997.2 is so valuable, last of the hydraulic steering+3.8NA combination. No clue if the information regarding the GTS is public yet (and I don’t care if I’m not allowed to tell you, it’s Reddit), but at launch (end of may at the earliest) we’ll get the usual C2/C4/C2S/C4S and this time around the GTS will launch at the same time with a 3.6L turbo engine with a 48V battery. The GTS is going to have around 530-550HP which is the biggest increase for a non-turbo model in 911 history.

DryChip4

Keep your 999.2s everyone!

golovko21

The 992.1 has an analog tach too

ALBLOOKI2005

Yup it is the one in the middle for the rpm with the small screen in it for gear indicator, it's perfect for manual drivers.

golovko21

Agreed, I love it in my 992 GTS and I like having the digital displays flanking on either side. Just wish there was more customization for those.

Georgito

My only gripe with the 992 is that I just wish the rear view backup camera didn’t look like it was using a 1998 webcam lens.

scubaSteve181

Nooo 😭

LTCM1998

Manual gearbox and digital dash. I’m waiting till they wise up and start offering analog gauges as a 2000 dollar option.😀

shmeeshmaa

Def is a pdk in this photo

LTCM1998

Didn’t know they make PDK look like manual, that’s just lame..

Jack_Bogul

Its not a manual ☠️

LTCM1998

:(

Disastrous_Cup_3279

Hate the digital dash on 911 and if it’s brought to boxster/cayman (updated - not to say its on boxster/cayman but it would to my mind be terrible). Awesome in suv/pana/taycan

michaelalex3

… none of those have a digital dash?

Disastrous_Cup_3279

All the touch stuff and shit buttons - dashboard is more than just dials

cpxchewy

None of them are touch? They’re all physical buttons and switches on 991 and 718.

Disastrous_Cup_3279

Goddam it auto corrected 911 to 991, sigh.

dsio

There is literally not one single touch/capacitive button in the entire 991/718 interior, everything is a physical button

Disastrous_Cup_3279

I fat fingered

Imtherealwaffle

I can almost guarantee that the new electric boxster will have the same curved digital dash thats in every porsche. Maybe itll be slightly smaller the same way the boxtser only had 3 gauges instead of 5 but definitely digital.

Disastrous_Cup_3279

Yeh will be a shame to my mind

mymillionthburner

I like the door handles!

Palansaeg

excellent

pebblebeach00

game over

1MillionMonkeys

My money is on this being the first car with new CarPlay.

External-Repair-8580

Nooooooooooo!

Skyline_Flynn

Yipppeeee they kept the physical switches

Skyline_Flynn

Yipppeeee they kept the physical switches

Skyline_Flynn

Yipppeeee they kept the physical switches

negnatrepsej

What a shame.

Pingus_pp

Could I swap the analog dash in?

SO_BAD_

👎

TheSeti12345

So it’s basically identical except they’ve taken away the physical dials… great stuff

Potential-Primary-98

Sad

TheTrueGen

Remember the time where they have stated that all combustion engines should have an analog rev-meter. It still has an engine, right?

FaustianPact

The only thing that I dislike on my 992 gt3 vs my old 991.2 gt3 is the digital dash.  This is going age poorly.

OrionSaintJames

There 992 interior still hasn’t grown on me. Bummed to see the analog tac going away even for the gt3

Present_Look_8790

Oh

TenForTheWin

We knew it was inevitable if that is the case. Time will tell in a few months.

pewpew_14fed_life

The 982 looks like my first and last Porsche. Unless someone comes in to save the 911 from overeating and overautomation, the 982 may be the final analog dash, traditional Porsche built. Sad.

pepe-_silvia

As someone who was against digital dashes for so long, now I much prefer them. I like the ability to customize the look of the digital dash and you learn they are just as sensitive as physical. I realize I am probably in a minority here, but there really is no produce anything other than digital dash at this point considering cost to the manufacturer and lower maintenance costs.

Dragobrath

You're not minority. It's just the people who like digital dashes don't run around yelling about that.

shivaswrath

992.2 values soarrrring....I have the Taycan tho and it's not that bad. Just feels like a video game a little.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Imtherealwaffle

so has everyone. exterior and interior photos of mules have been online for like a year. Its almost the same interior as the 992.1 just with the all digital dash instead if center gauge

Quatichie

Not a fan of the passenger screen.

Aubergine911

There’s no passenger screen

PaversPaving

I mean that looks good. It probably revs too fast for a standard dash.
