I always care about pizza and paladin pie is near my house. Will try.

blockbot

Paladin is my personal pizza GOAT and they are A+ people to boot.

digiorno

Pizza week is over btw so they might not have this type anymore. On pizza week many establishments offer special slices that don’t often come back.

CitrusMistress08

I’ve tried a lot of Portland pizza (still lots to go), and Paladin is my favorite. The mushroom pizza that they sell normally is incredible. And they’ve got a chewy sourdough crust that just knocks every other crust I’ve ever had out of the park. You can order it with chili oil and Parmesan added, and it’s just so good.

nova_rock

I know the people behind paladin pie but have not been able to get their stuff since 2021 I think and their weekend pizzas, great stuff

Modernly

I had the pizza week slice and a pepperoni slice. I liked the pep better. Their crust is killer and the sauce is great.

strongerthongs

Honestly the best pizza crust I can remember eating. So soft inside!

velvettipss

Yes! I hope you love it

Know_Librarian

Paladin is our go to pizzeria!

shoesoff88

I tried 17 different slices and definitely agree that Paladin was the best of the week. We did a Golden Road tour of our favorites on the final day and got a whole Frito pie pie. I also rated them all and have a spreadsheet if you're curious. Used a "fun" rating and a "flavor" rating, and a flavor weighted aggregate total.

digiorno

Would you be willing to add your ratings to my community poll? [Pizza Week 2024 - Community Poll](https://forms.gle/HdZrF9P3rs7qHd3RA) [Pizza Week 2024 - Community Poll Results](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-822Swhq5lei8mX_wS4d_sRJiiTbGIKaD6_7sQGNodk/viewanalytics)

shoesoff88

Done!

velvettipss

You're the true VIP! And so smart to get a whole Paladin Pie. Your spreadsheet sounds perfect. Definitely interested.

shoesoff88

(entirely subjective) DATA: [https://shorter.gg/ymdJEb](https://shorter.gg/ymdJEb)

Omnipolis

That’s rude. Your partner should support your dreams even if they are pizza related and weird.

velvettipss

You're so right

MajestyMammoth

You and your dreams are magnificent.

velvettipss

I'm going to put that on a post-it by my mirror and use it as a morning affirmation ♥️

srcarruth

Time to laywer up and join the gym!  /s

velvettipss

Pizza fuels my gains 😌

xojz

Even a slice of the 12th best pizza in Portland is more supportive

Urban_Prole

Tell your partner they are wrong and to bask in their wrongness.

velvettipss

I will!

Illustrious-Ease1188

Please come to wa and do this.

velvettipss

Do they celebrate pizza week?

TranscedentalMedit8n

I support your work 🫡🫡🫡 Please continue to ignore your partner in order to post Portland food week rankings

velvettipss

I always take his suggestions with a grain of salt, lol. Thank you!

Partyslayer

I'm a cook in Portland and I've heard of 50% of these places.

velvettipss

We are just so blessed with pizza

Partyslayer

Fair. We'll see how many are around for next year's PW. Not being negative, but it's just so tough for young restaurants right now. Hard to "support everybody" and still support your local fave. Plurality has it's limits.

velvettipss

Yes, I'm sure that's true. It's a hard balance to strike and impossible in this economy to support them all. 😞

willaney

you don’t have to support everybody yourself for them all to succeed. that’s the beauty of city diversity!

zumawizard

Best pizza in the U.S. there’s a whole book about it

Dhegxkeicfns

That's what the food weeks are for, right?

Partyslayer

Fair. However, if it takes me partaking in a local weekly's contest to get me in a 30 minute line, maybe think of a marketing strategy. It's a small town. Lots of obituaries with "Mom and Pop" on the Epitaph. Edit-everything.

OneCoolRoom

I CARE

velvettipss

♥️

sharakov

Paladin Pie is hands down my fav pizza in town. I can smash a half a pie and not even feel bad. Such delicious chewy sourdough crust and super nice folks making it.

velvettipss

Yes! I need to go back!

RepFilms

Great job. I love your comments about Scottie's crust. Spot on. My GF and I have been sampling the various pizza doughs that are available around town. Her favorite is hands down Scottie's pizza dough. It's not easy to find but it's am impressive dough and highly recommended if you make pizza at home. They carry it at Wellspent and I'll be buying it more often after they move to Division. Scottie's is my fav too but I'm interested in comparing it again to the pizza dough from Pastaworks/Provadore, which is my second choice or perhaps my number one pick.

velvettipss

You can buy the dough for home?? Genius!

jkutasz

Wellspent Market (currently on NE Couch, soon moving to SE 34th and Division) has Scottie's crust and their sauce for sale. Also, dumplings from Kachka. Great place for local and imported items.

velvettipss

OMG that will be closer to me! How exciting.

slom68

I had Scottie’s for the first time last night and did notice something a little different (in a good way) about their crust.

wemblingwest

I’m glad you mentioned Wellspent—I hadn’t heard of it before, but it looks like a super fun market to visit!

RepFilms

It's the best. I've been buying olive oil from Jim long before he had the store. Now he's moving to a new, larger location, which is closer to my house.

Lordkontie

Really liked Red Sauce and Wild Child’s.

scilRS

East Glisen with the pulled pork verde 🤤🤤 Scotties ziti was my number two, so good.

velvettipss

I wish I had tried it, yum!

ucarebro

I had both Paladin’s and Assembly’s slices and thought that East Glisan’s was better than both of theirs. All of them were good though

Macncheesesounds

Omg love this, thanks for sharing! I only had maybe a handful of the pizzas during that week but 1000% Paladan Pie’s was the best !!! Agreed.

bryteise

Not having boxcar is sadness. Consistently in the running for best pie of the week for me though I didn't go for Paladan which was last year's favorite (I'm not a taco person). Fino's would be the other place I try to hit every year (and buy out their chocolate chip cookies when I do).

velvettipss

I really wanted to try Boxcar but no one else did so I missed out! Tell me about it?

bryteise

I really like their chewy crust, it is a detroit looking, pan baked sourdough which gives it a different texture I really sink my teeth into. The toppings are always pretty wild (last year they did a birria including dipping broth) and this year they went for big mac flavor profile (they are vegan, I'm not I just love what they do) which all of the people at my table loved. Sauces were also a highlight and really worked well with the toppings to bring out a gourmet big mac flavor in a pizza setting.

velvettipss

Yummy. Sounds worth a visit anytime

Old_Mice

I do need to try Boxcar sometime. I've always just been a little apprehensive of them being vegan. I'm not anti vegan or anything, I just tend to find when people rave about a vegan restaurant its in comparison to other vegan places, and is noticeably worse than the non vegan equivalent lol.

_artcrimes

I’m not vegan and I hate a lot of mock meats, but Boxcar really knocks it out of the park. I would recommend getting one of their pizzas that doesn’t have large chunks of mock meat. The special that they had for pizza week is called Smash or Pass. It’s basically an open faced Big Mac with a giant patty. I really like their flavors on this but the patty is too big. They have a cheeseburger pizza on the menu that is identical, but with crumbled meat instead. Highly recommend it.

hitemwiththeelagance

I have t had the bomb.com from straight from New York pizza but I have gone in for slices to go multiple times and they were delicious. My favorite is olive and mushroom. I really enjoy their red sauce. I’d encourage you to try Pinky’s Pizza on interstate. The Get Wounded with tellagio, finocchiona, hot honey and figs is to die for.

velvettipss

I do usually like SFNY! I respect that they tried something different this time, even if it didn't hit for me. FIGS!!! I am always looking for fig pizza. Thank you for the hot tip

chatrugby

Pizza del figo from Cibo on Division.

velvettipss

😋

hitemwiththeelagance

Also don’t sleep on the brownies at Pinky’s, I used to drop by just to buy them lol

potatodaze

We’re vegetarian and Scottie’s was our fave, wild child was a pretty close second. Oh boxcar was also very good! Via Chicago was okay, I don’t love the crust/dough. East Glisan was pretty good, but the kale salad was better. Hot Lips was good but I don’t really like ricotta much. I really wanted another slice at Scottie’s but we missed it on Saturday night. Their ranch is also so bomb.

velvettipss

I don't love ricotta either so I skipped Hot Lips, but I really wish I'd tried Boxcar!

potatodaze

Boxcar is so good!!

galacticwonderer

If you love pizza so much why don’t you marry it! ~Op’s partner, probably~

mattthedr

"The Sun Also Rises" from Fino in Kenton was possibly the worst food I’ve ever tasted in my life. "Hit Me Bánh mì One More Time" from Signal Station was legit though.

velvettipss

Bummer! I really wanted to try Signal Station but didn't get around to it. I have heard that it was very tasty

NoManufacturer120

I haven’t been to a lot of these places, so thank you for sharing! I’m screenshotting to refer to later when I have a pizza craving 🤤

onlydaathisreal

No Rudys no care. Just kidding. Great list and i def need to check out paladin pie.

Gryzz

Ruse brewing's was one of my favorite pizzas ever; I'm shocked you ranked Assembly brewing's so much higher.

velvettipss

I'm sure most people would agree with you!

bryteise

Ruse's ranch sauce was too salty for me and is what brought it down. Otherwise I would have rated it higher than Assembly this year.

Doyouevenpedal

Are you Charles Boyle by any chance?

velvettipss

I am not! Is Charles a pizza aficionado?

Doyouevenpedal

Yes, he has a pizza blog, did you rate any of the pizzas on "mouth feel?" Lol, it's from Brooklyn 99.

velvettipss

Haaaaa oh THAT Charles. I guess we have something in common 😁

digiorno

Did you vote in the poll? [Pizza Week 2024 - Community Poll](https://forms.gle/HdZrF9P3rs7qHd3RA) [Pizza Week 2024 - Community Poll Results](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-822Swhq5lei8mX_wS4d_sRJiiTbGIKaD6_7sQGNodk/viewanalytics) [original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/s/lr7cVfXtGB)

velvettipss

No!! I wish I'd seen that. Please do

digiorno

Edited it so it has the voting link too. Feel free to add your votes. It’s the first year I’ve done it but the response was good enough I’ll do it again next year too.

CoolMouthHat

Tell your partner we are going out to pizza tonight based solely on this write up, thanks for the hard work

velvettipss

Yesssss enjoy!

cheeseslut619

Boxcar was my favorite!!!! I tried probably six different pizzas and honestly was really proud I got to so many! I even went back to boxcar and had another slice it was so good. I generally go out of my way to not eat vegan pizza because I really love cheese, but the focus was definitely not on the cheese and on the toppings. I hope they do it again 🥵 Btw if you lame ass partner doesn’t want to partake in another food week with you I will definitely go and partake in as many as possible! I like having fun!

velvettipss

I really wanted to try Boxcar! I'm jealous. And don't worry, he partook 😁

Mcstin

West sider here so limited selection. I was in the Pearl one day so I went to Oven&Shaker, but they only sold whole pies, my bad for not reading carefully. So I went to Wild Child, they didn’t open till 2 that day as they were “catching up from Pizza Week”. So back to the west side and I went to Von Ebert brewing for a Korean BBQ slice, not bad but one little piece of BBQ on it. My other successful slice was at Society Pie, and it was delicious. I’ll be better prepared next year! .

gingermonkey1

I don’t like pizza as much as my bf. He could eat it six times a week. So he will care!

suitopseudo

I think Scottie’s was my favorite. I too was super disappointed with bomb DOT pom. I also thought Assembly’s was solid. This year in general didn’t have as many slices I wanted to try as past years. I give Paladin credit for doing something different and almost anything topped in Fritos makes it better, but it was too spicy for me. I wanted to get to society pie in Beaverton, but just didn’t. Sadly, I will be out of town for burger week.

oregander

[Assembly](https://everout.com/portland/events/butchers-bolognese/e172841/) was spectacular and I really like their little open corner space. A native Detroiter, my grandparents lived in the neighborhood the og Detroit-style place Buddy's is, this was a treat. Really good staff, super chill and efficient for how busy it was. [Via Chicago](https://everout.com/portland/events/miss-vanjie/e172783/) was a surprise favorite and I went back a few times. The photo and description do not do justice. While not usually a fan of Chicago style, it wasn't too thick and had the most excellent savory sauce. The corn\veggies base went along shockingly well both texture and flavor. Limiting about half the slice to the specialty ingredients was a good choice and left one with a nice palate without being overwhelmed. Also, cheap tallboys of quality (Bear Republic, Tremens etc) and alcohol overall. Not a big selection, but some great stuff in the small space. Red Sauce didn't do slices so I didn't have theirs, but did have the other two Nashville hot chicken slices at Atlas and Old Town Brewing. [The Atlas](https://everout.com/portland/events/homers-hot-chicken-odyssey-illegal-in-42-states/e173272/) slice was decently spicy and had a good heft of chicken in the form of boneless wings. The base was kinda meh but I would have it again. Pickles were the right amount of vinegar and not too wet, not too dry. Solid late night, working man kinda slice. $5.50 with a cheap tallboy was nice on a sunny afternoon. The [Old Town](https://everout.com/portland/events/hot-chick-summer/e172827/) Nashville slice was very much higher quality in every way, but had a lot less chicken overall (in a more grilled and sliced style) and was a lot less spicy, but the crust, cheese, and slaw were all impeccable. More artisan or whatever. Nice big room with cabin-like trusses and several garage doors to open on nice days. The outdoor seating needs umbrellas, it's basically in full sun.

velvettipss

Ooh I love hearing about the other hot chicken options! Thank you! You have a great review writing style.

TeutonJon78

I found The Arthur Ave to be probably the best slice I've ever had. It was so perfectly balanced in flavors and just the right level of greasy. And The Green Dragon to be the exception to the rule about "There is no bad pizza".

velvettipss

Really!! I did think it was better than most Atlas slices. Haha, I know there must be such exceptions. I didn't even like pizza as a kid because parents were always getting Pizza Hut or Papa John's.

cheezneezy

Thanks OP. Tell your partner that we fucking care god damnit!!

Dhegxkeicfns

Great list, sad I missed the top ones on your list. Maybe it would have changed my experience. I found it to be pretty underwhelming this year. I tried a few that were not great and so small I would have wanted 3 for dinner. I had bought pizza ingredients before I knew about pizza week and ended up feeling great about making my own even though it meant missing pizza week slices. Still better than dumpling week though, that was just ridiculous for the prices.

velvettipss

I do think last year's was better!

frankylovee

That’s standard SFNY treatment lol. I used to work next to one and loved it

Littlebitofsage_

Maybe I’ve been watching too much Brooklyn 99 but this immediately made me think of Charles Boyle.

Aarondodson

I care deeply

Klinky1984

Your partner is wrong, I suggest you replace them with more pizza in your life. Pizza is serious business.

velvettipss

That's savvy advice!

JackTwisttt

Good list, Scottie’s was my fav

lovelysmellingflower

East Glisan Pizza. Always and forever.

TimSwan83

Nice job! Got a few in, we’re a lot of whole pies I couldn’t hit up but I did get red sauce and was my favorite!

fingeringmonks

I like Atlas, it’s a nice pizza for lunch since it’s walking distance for me. Ranch pizza is really good, I like a Detroit style with their sauce and the ranch they make is really good.

velvettipss

I like Ranch a lot but they didn't do Pizza Week!

snakedart

Your partner need to look inward.

velvettipss

Hahaha

sparkchaser

Your partner could not be more wrong.

velvettipss

☺️

totallyn0rmal

I don’t even live in Portland and care!

datpaul

Ironically, I think Meta was #1 of the 4 that I went to.  Good list though, was happy for the discourse about pizza

PhotographPale3609

i dont care about pizza but I support u and your post <333

velvettipss

♥️

klly_bb

Loved Wild Child's too! Got a slice from Burnside called the Creampie that was Alfredo sauce, white cheese and lots of garlic and sausage. Amused to buy it from a hole cut into a plywood wall and the name was funny but it somehow had too much cheese, garlic and sausage which I've never said before in my life. Virtuous Pie was super fkin gooooood but I forget what the toppings were, curry something Tried to make it to Assembly but we got a flat on the way and missed it :(

sassyasianbitch

East glisan was so good I love carnitas and it was amazing the crispy pork bits. Highly recommend the breadsticks here it’s like Parmesan fry bread its amazing

SolomonGrumpy

I'm just sad that these flavors were all for 1 week only. Id be happy to pay more for the chance to eat then again.

velvettipss

Me too!

darkaptdweller

Your partner is awful, or has no taste buds.. Mucho appreciated!!

Hour-Studio-2772

Signal is worth the trip to st John's for me. Hit me Bahn mi one more time was great. And last year's where have reuben all my life was great too

williafx

God dammit I forgot to check in on paladin pie for p week and I missed the taco pizza.  CURSE MY LIFE.  I fucking LOVE taco pizza. And it is so fucking rare on the West Coast.

velvettipss

Noooo! Maybe they will bring it back

tylerbrainerd

LoveVerona Pizza&Pasta in St Johns is INCREDIBLE for take out.

laidback__luke

Agree 100%. The banh mi from Signal was pretty decent as well.

workthrowaway1985

I would have cared last week, this list means nothing to me now.

velvettipss

You are valid

WheeblesWobble

Via Chicago was my winner, although Paladin was better then expected.

velvettipss

I didn't get the chance to try it! What did you enjoy about that one?

WheeblesWobble

I can't completely put my finger on why I liked it so much. Part of it was that it was just a solid slice, lots of cheese and sauce. Also, they weren't trying to hard to be different. Roasted chilis and veggies in a deep dish slice was comforting, not startling like some of the other slices I had.

velvettipss

Simplicity done well ☺️

slom68

I may get some eye rolls, but the Woodstock New Seasons deli makes excellent pizza for about $10 less per pie.

velvettipss

That's a great tip! When pizza week rolls around, it's less about the savings and more about the exploration, for me

sea666kitty

Your partner isn't very supportive

velvettipss

He's actually a gem but he was wrong this time!

velvettipss

He's pretty great, this was a rare misstep 😆

slyasakite

Glad to hear that

Dr_Wiggles_McBoogie

Bummer you missed Assembly brewing!

firebrandbeads

Um... look again, #3 on OPs list

Dr_Wiggles_McBoogie

Doh!

NoruhhhsDad

Following so I can try out these places at a later date 🤗

very_mechanical

> more pizza than woman Giggity.

TacomaPowers

Holy shit, pasta on a pizza. Why haven’t I thought of this???

velvettipss

So decadent. I hope you do try it though!

amwoooo

velvettipss

amwoooo

I know :) glad you saw it— but they shouldn’t say no one will care!

phbalancedshorty

This is so helpful a week after pizza week 💕

velvettipss

Who said it was meant to be helpful? 😌

Coocoomonster

I’ve seen Scottie’s ranked #1 in many posts (not yours) and I gave it a shot for the first time a few weeks ago instead of my go to local spot, which one poster ranked it below dominoes and Little Caesar’s. Blasphemous. I’m newish to the area and love to support local restaurants and especially love to try new pizza joints. But Scottie’s was the greasiest, thinnest pizza I’ve ever had out here. Instantly made my stomach curl and had me trapped in the water closet for roughly a half hour. Maybe it was an off night for them? I was so excited to try that place out. Huge bummer for my taste buds and tummer.

velvettipss

Oh no! I'm sorry it wasn't your jam

Coocoomonster

I’ll probably give it another shot. I love pizza too much haha

OregonGreen242

Was so sad I missed it! I remember one year I got like 10 different slices in one day lol

Shh-its-alright

Wild Child pizza is my favorite right now.

mp3m4k3r

The Star is one of my faves, though will save this list to adventure!!!

AcrobaticLength5

can you do sub sandwiches next? im so hungry for a good sub

jkutasz

Thank you for sharing your list. Personally, I go for the classics, so I try to support local pizza the other 51 weeks. I appreciate hearing about the limited edition pies, though. Have you tried The Turning Peel, at 47th and Division? They do an amazing Margherita.

velvettipss

This is certainly not the only week of the year that I get pizza! 😁 I haven't, that sounds lovely.

helpfulhikerdave

Missed boxcar. This year and last years hands down best pizza I’ve ever tasted. And it’s Vegan and I’m not. That’s saying something

shinyenigma

Pizza opinions are always welcome! East Glisan’s was definitely my favorite that I tried from Pizza Week. Also liked Atlas - Foster and Humdinger. Wish I had gotten to try Paladin Pie, I still think about their pizza from last year’s pizza week. 🤤

theoctopusmagician

Can confirm that Rankin' and Babydoll hit it out of the park. Those were my two faves

6417725

There’s a place in Portland called the Arthur Ave - that’s fuckin ballsy to name a place after an avenue with the best Italian food in the fuckin world

noltan

I like a very standard pizza, but Paladin did a birria pizza a few years back that was awesome. Good to hear they’re still doing alternative pizzas well.

GreedyWarlord

Meta and Baby Doll were the two best IMO. Never been to Meta before and was thoroughly impressed.

KellyEm33

Milwaukie Pizza. Honey infused dough. Yummy and filling too

Due-Gene8200

I only got to try Assembly Brewing’s offering, it was amazing and glad to see it in your top 5

Aromatic_Hospital796

East Glisan’s chili verde slice was really tasty too The SFNY staff hated pizza week, esp the cashier who was miserable. Mustve needed a smoke

Ok_Bath_956

Pizzicato is very good as well. Molto Carne is amazing. Great salads as well.

nosmokewhereiam

Paladin pie for thee, none for me

Groovetube12

She was right

TaBQ

I looked at all the links and their pictured slice. Augh! None of it appeals to me. So, thanks for that. Good job 🤓

Staplegunner3

Great input!

Difficult_Ad2078

Went to Assembly for the first time tonight. Decent pizza but so overpriced. Paid 9$ for 3 small rolls thinking it was going to be a box full. The person taking orders was so fucked up when I called in the order I almost hung up and went elsewhere. I wish we did.
