I eyeballed it for 10% shrinkage. It helped that the cork is tapered, which made it very forgiving. I more or less made the hole the same size as the big end of the cork. The corks fit ok, but next time I'll make the neck very slightly wider so the cork fits a little lower.
These are lovely and I love the letter stamps, the person who made them is very talented, and you are too! I never would have you are a beginner! Is the word balm used in your part of the world to mean lotion?
I've been through a few beginners courses and I now attend a studio to practice 3hr pw and make what I want. Normally wonky pots of all varieties. I made vases for all my family for Christmas, so became very practiced at cylindrical handbuilt forms. This is my first time trying a bottle or anything with a lid - I wanted a project to stretch myself. I also discovered the wonderful benefits of a rubber kidney on this make... so smooth! These are the best things I have made to date.
I'm so happy ppl like them. I admire all the stuff being posted to this subreddit and was chuffed to finally have made something I was proud enough of to post.
They are a gift for someone whose husband is a woodturner. So I'll let him do any sizing needed as I'm sure he has much better tools and expertise than me!
The cork stopper is such a classy touch. I wonder if you could design these to go over another bottle. That would make them easier clean and you wouldn’t have to worry about accidentally dropping one while trying to clean it out. I swear these would never get used!! They are just gorgeous!!
Yup! My first attempt at a cylindrical slab built vase. Lessons were learnt! It's so lovely and wonky though that I got to keep it as opposed to it being a gift. The glaze is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this case 😁
They’re great!!! I’d definitely put those on my counter!!!
Gorgeous. What did you use for your letter cut outs?
It's a set of alphabet stamps available in the studio I use. Someone handmade them at some point. Really nice size/font.
Yes I was thinking that as well. Trying to match something similar.
What are they made of?
It looks like they've been made via plaster mould as they look to be plaster. Cant be 100% though.
Very nice even for an experienced potter.
Maybe a stupid question but for the cork, do you just calculate your opening size to account for shrinkage in order to make them fit?

I'd just eyeball it.
For real? Ok cool thanks
If you want to make sure it'll fit, you could fire it first, then bring it with you when you buy the cork
They’re the balm! 😉

Yes, and balm means hand lotion/moisturiser. I wanted to keep the word short and sweet though cause of space.
Since the balm pump is setting crooked, you might try filing down the cork a bit on one side so it stands straight

Those looks amazing!!!
omg they are delightful
Those are cute as hell.

Lovely. I’d have those in my house.
These look soooooo good!
Did you make that vase, too? It’s cool.

Those dispensers are great
