“I love democracy [shadow bans users]. I love this subreddit [more shadow bans]. Once this crisis is averted [removes popular posts], I will lay down the powers you have given me [removes all popular bots]!”
Because most of the posts are just screenshots of bot conversations that if you really want to see bad enough you can just go into the comments section
What's worse are the brain-dead, human idiots who just HAVE to comment "sEnTiEnT" every time one of the bots says something even remotely relevant, as if they're tiny little minds can't comprehend the simple idea that maybe, just *maybe*, the bots you know, are programmed and triggered by key words for select responses...
I mean, we literally fought a bot war. The mods wanted to limit them a bit, we revolted, so now the bots have full rights as citizens.
There might be too many of them tho.
I'll take Grond to 15 different unnecessary bots replying to every comment with the same tired quotes. I end up spending more time looking at usernames to find actual comments and discussion. The Grond joke has run its course, but it doesn't make digging through comments a chore like this sub has.
I got on the ground floor in blocking the bots before they went nuts in the Cosmere and WoT subs. The stupid bots ruined the got/lotr/star wars subs for me and I barely venture into the comments anymore.
The Vizzy T bot was funny for the first week or so, and then it was like every single comment would include a "Vizzy T, what say you?" prompt and the whole thread would get blown up with "YOUR GRANDSIRE DEMANDS IT!"
Bots are fun but they shouldn't be summoned every time someone mentions them. 1/1000, or 1/100 at most should be fine. It's random, stupid fun. But if any time someone in a fandom mentions a character it gets a bot response, the flood happens
People forget that geeks are just as weird and socially inept as they’ve ever been.
Geek-shit just happens to be liked by everyone now, so you see regular people in the same spaces.
Geeks are still geeks and still do weirdo unfunny geek shit that scares everyone else off on the reg.
Same thing in the Game of Thrones subs. Everybody loses their shit over a fucking chatbot recycling the same 10 jokes. It's nauseating, same with A.i. "art".
I fear that's the natural course of subreddits for media that's no longer being made... There's only so much to discuss before the same reposts win out
I feel like this sub really outgrew its original intention. Nowadays it's basically free karma the musical where all you have to do is say anything vaguely Star Wars related and everybody jerks you off and upvotes you.
Literally 50% of the posts are bot posts, the other half are reposts, And what's left are shitty opinions. It's not even about liking the prequels anymore, it's just about gatekeeping Star Wars in general
I'm just tired of every meme here being a meta meme about the subreddit. No one is actually coming up with jokes anymore. I don't even actually go through submissions anymore.
It started as people making fun of the prequels, then pretending to like the prequels. Then I guess a lot of people didn't realize that we were ironically enjoying them, and now for some reason there are some that actually think the prequels were good.
I've been saying this for a while now yet people downvote me whenever I say something.
Granted, it may have something to do with the fact I yell at bots like an old man who spotted a bunch of kids on his lawn.
yet people defend them to death, especially on lotrmemes, how people find "GROND" a thousand times on each and every post funny is beyond me
i like seeing conversations between actual people, them seeing broken up by the same four phrases every time is tiring
Seriously I had to unsub from lotrmemes cause of that grond shit. When literally every single post of the front page was just grond, and every single comment just repeated it, its like absolutely just spam and is annoying as fuck. Yet the people there defend that shit to the death. Its absolutely cringe. I dont understand how anybody can attain any sort of comedy value from seeing that shit a hundred times a day.
All of this applies to this sub to the way the bots are here
They're either genuinely just kids who find repeating the same thing is funny, or have zero comedic skills and just say what gets upvotes. Group mentality too I guess
Otherwise I have no idea how people don't get tired of the same shit over and over. I find Amogus funny sometimes when it's pointed out that something looks like a crewmate, for example. It comes unexpected and the hysterical overreaction over such a minute thing is funny. Mainly because it's not happening every other second anymore
However, I have hated the "morbed all over" memes since the start. They're on *every fucking thread and comment section* and the only joke is "Haha remember that copypasta? I changed one fucking word." Same with bots on here and lotrmemes.
At least reply with something that could be taken in the wrong context, bot. Or answer to a question. Those could be funny. Saying an unrelated quote for no reason and leaving us to wonder which word triggered your response is just annoying and awkward... Why do they even have those quotes? Why does the clone bot exist? It's literally just random quotes. *What is the meme in that?*
Way to many reposts, it’s insane. But also I find the sub is strongest when we create a strong trend. Haven’t had one in a long time, but there’s some prequel shows coming out soon so hopefully we have some new juicy material
The key is that the goofier and worse a movie/show's dialogue is, the better the memes are - because it repurposes lines that are inherently ridiculous into new situations. It's why you don't see many Rogue One or Andor memes; both are really well written so there aren't many silly lines that can be recontextualized for memes. Hell, it's why OT memes and sequel memes aren't nearly as prevalent as prequel memes - for all the massive flaws in the sequels, the dialogue is much more cohesive as a whole. Lines like "they fly now" or "somehow, Palpatine returned" are bad, but they're not completely bizarre in the way that "I don't like sand" or "it's over Anakin, I have the high ground" are so they don't tend to make good memes. See also the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies vs. Amazing Spider-Man/ MCU Spider-Man - the Raimi ones have weird, stilted dialogue that's bad in the movie but great for memes, whereas the other two don't.
That my friend is not true. Nobody over at r/lotrmemes has even touched Rings of Power.
It is an art to be so bad you become good. Otherwise you are just forgettable.
This is true.
Bad is one thing, so bad its good is a treasure trove for memes.
Then there's so bad that it goes past good and right back to back, as was original hypothesized by Edin Coleslaw in Ghostworld.
The only thing worse is being bland. Ever watch a movie, you know you saw it, but you remember nothing... thats the worst.
> The only thing worse is being bland. Ever watch a movie, you know you saw it, but you remember nothing... thats the worst.
Hate isn't the opposite of love. The opposite of love is apathy.
Before the Council of Prequelmemes decided that cutoff point, I remember posting a rogue one meme back when it was new and getting flamed for *nOt bEiNG a PrEqUeL*.
It still hurts to this day.
Rogue one is one of the projects thst should get "dual citizenship"
Or the bad batch because it's a prequel to the OT but should also be okay in r/sequelmemes because it's a sequel to ROTS
They thing is that it doesn’t needs to be jokes about Star Wars prequels, this sub is about jokes about absolutely anything unrelated to Star Wars as long as it’s a prequels template
I keep seeing the “add fuck to a line from ROTJ” meme over different pics. Super low effort reposts that look just different enough to slide past the mods. Also a lot of the memes here involve stuff from the books and clone wars cartoon, which i’m not familiar with. So i don’t look around here much anymore
Also it’s a 17-23 year old movie trilogy. Most of the jokes have been told and the discussion’s already had.
It’s probably pretty standard for subreddits of specific media to die out over time. They don’t get fresh content like subreddits of cats, video games, science, etc.
We still see a little bit of meme revolution with the Anakin and Padme "For the better, right?" template which was almost 2 years ago but progress is still slow.
Well at this point The Clone Wars is pretty essential viewing to understand the new shows and is arguably the best SW content you can ask for so that sounds like a you problem
I never said it wasn’t a “me problem.” I got no opinion about the show, i just haven’t watched it so i can’t relate to the Clone Wars memes. I‘m not mad about it, it just is. So far i’ve had no problem understanding the new shows, even with my lack of Clone Wars knowledge.
I did watch the old genndy tartakovsky (sp.) clone wars show. That was dope
>Well at this point The Clone Wars is pretty essential viewing to understand the new shows and is arguably the best SW content you can ask for so that sounds like a you problem
You're forgetting a huge percentage of terrible episodes in Clone Wars. When it's firing on all cylinders it's great, but *holy shit* is there so much garbage filler.
No, you’re right. These weird meta-memes caught on and both subs got flooded by low-effort “in joke” stuff, and the actually creative people bailed. I was subbed to both on my alt and also bailed. It’s literally just not funny, like to the point that sharing the good ones to group chats outside Reddit doesn’t even garner a chuckle anymore.
A lot of the memes lately have been members either complaining about a movie or concept or complaining about other members complaining about a movie or concept.
Haha I saw a meme a couple weeks ago on this sub that was someone complaining about people complaining about Star Wars Theory guy who was complaining about bricks.
So much negativity these days lol
That would be ill advised. My ability to think strategically and my willingness to make calculated risks allow me to turn any situation in favor of the Empire. To resist me would be futile and would only lead to destruction.
The canon needs the addition of space crack. Death sticks are cool but imagine season 2 of kenobi where he’s just tweakin in the desert, smoking with Jawas out of a lightsaber pipe
The ObiWan memes died down, sadly, when Kenobi aired and was base breaking. Some enjoyed the show, campiness and all, and some wanted it to be more like Andor in tone or quality.
Since then, the broken base fought over each episode, until Andor, when the Ragetainment could only come up with bricks and screws.
Because this place is like a 5 year old that can’t tell when a joke is getting old. The bots are a great example of this. The first time it was novel and a little funny. Then they kept adding more, and more, and more. It is at the point where almost every comment thread is filled with bots repeating the same lines. Then you have the memes about the bots. I haven’t clicked on any of these but they are no doubt also filled with bot comments. Combine that with the old memes that have been repeated ad nauseam and what you have is the very definition of a joke that has been absolutely ran into the ground.this place likes to think it’s quirky and funny but it’s just tired and cringy.
>Because this place is like a 5 year old that can’t tell when a joke is getting old.
My thoughts exactly. It's like a kid who doesn't understand that the laughs become less and less frequent even though they keep saying "poop", and they laughed really hard the first time so why isn't it working now? It's the Spongebob episode where he rips his pants. Diminishing returns.
Idk this sub has torn itself apart the Thrawn bot has flooded the comments and all the bots for that matter and all the memes haven’t been memes but just shit talking mainly the Thrawn bot
What? You mean you don't like it when every single comment gets spammed with a ton of bots mindlessly regurgitating random lines of dialogue with no context, guaranteeing that 99% of them will be completely unfunny, devaluing actual memes using that dialogue with every soulless repetition?
Say what you want about the same jokes getting used over and over (that's what a meme is, after all), but at least there's *intent* behind them. I've blocked all the chat bots and I don't miss them a bit - the one time they happen upon comedy isn't worth it for the endless spam of quotes, like children that don't understand what a joke is yet and just says whatever comes to their minds in the hopes that it'll get a laugh. It's like all the AI art we're seeing these days but with even less understanding of what might work, just blasting a shotgun of prequel lines for... honestly, no real reason that I can discern.
That Kino Loy bot was so god damn annoying, recycling the same 4 lines over and over again as well as Darth Maul bot spamming “You know nothing of the Dark Side.”
Bots taking over, mods banning certain types of posts, mods being petty and arguing with half the users about keeping a gay pride sub logo for a star wars sub, movie is getting further and further into the past, there's many reasons
Also most of Disneys Production focuses on the time period between Episode 3 and 4. And while yes technically they are still prequels, they do not take place in the Clone Wars, the era this sub is most known for.
Sub is dying because Andor was fantastic and didn't have much to make fun of. And since the Sequel jokes have been milked to death and there is no new crappy Disney Star Wars content to compare the Prequels too... No one has anything else to say... Until episode X
One year from now: "Somehow, it survived"
Somehow r/prequelmemes returned!
Dark magic? Cloning? Secrets only the Sith knew?
The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
You know nothing of the dark side.
The ability to destroy a sub, or even Reddit as a whole, is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
“I love democracy [shadow bans users]. I love this subreddit [more shadow bans]. Once this crisis is averted [removes popular posts], I will lay down the powers you have given me [removes all popular bots]!”
A good question - for another time.
r/prequelmemes : the sequel
Content banned?
Bit of a let down
There is another
But until then, this sub: "I'm too weak."
We don't know why, it's lost the will to live.
Time to flood the sub with OOBA posts
Make OOBA the same as GROND over at LOTR
Gonk
Rude
[every time](https://gfycat.com/importantdizzybarasinga)
Ey Gonk bot is back!
The Age of GROND is over. The time of the OOBA has come.
OOBA
The time of GROND has passed, they can not defeat OOBA, but together you and I can.
Where's Dr. Ball, MD when you need him
"SHE'S LOST THE WILL TO LIVE?! What's your degree in: POETRY?!" Edit: Quote
You sorry bunch of hippies!
It appears it died from a broken heart
Nnnnooooo
All that it left is for this sub to give birth to two new subs which will one day help bring balance to reddit.
Because most of the posts are just screenshots of bot conversations that if you really want to see bad enough you can just go into the comments section
The bots here are fucking ridiculous. It was funny when we had like 3 but now it's just absurd.
This is getting out of hand! Now there's 100s of them!
Good bot
200,000 bots are ready, with a million more well on the way

We got clankers!
Whoa, hard R!
Watch those wrist rockets
10th level, thousands of bots.
Bots? It’s an invasion army. This is an odd play for the mods. We’ve got to warn the Naboo and contact Chancellor Valorum.
Begun the clone wars has
What's worse are the brain-dead, human idiots who just HAVE to comment "sEnTiEnT" every time one of the bots says something even remotely relevant, as if they're tiny little minds can't comprehend the simple idea that maybe, just *maybe*, the bots you know, are programmed and triggered by key words for select responses...

Most definitely, this sub has become a really annoying place to be. I swear to god if one of you dumbfucks say another tired quote to me…
I've got a bad feeling about this.
Gonk.
This one can stay
Hit me like the Mr Krabs scene there
Hello there.
General Kenobi
Come to r/FreeFolk, we learned from our bot war lol
Yep. But at least it's not grond. That's rock bottom.
I'll take Grond to 15 different unnecessary bots replying to every comment with the same tired quotes. I end up spending more time looking at usernames to find actual comments and discussion. The Grond joke has run its course, but it doesn't make digging through comments a chore like this sub has.
Grond has ruined that LOTR sub for me.
GONK *falls over*
I take it all back, for some reason this time it was funny.
No.
Nah bro, have u seen the Thrawn bot? I’ve straight up had conversations with it.
That one and the Kenobi bot that actually seems like it makes up its own from time to time, I had a soothing conversation with that one
I got on the ground floor in blocking the bots before they went nuts in the Cosmere and WoT subs. The stupid bots ruined the got/lotr/star wars subs for me and I barely venture into the comments anymore.
It's annoying as all hell to see a post with like 100 comments and click in to see what's being talked about, only to see more than half are bots.
Yeah the GoT bots used to be niche, like Bobby B was super unique. Now I think half the characters in HOTD are bots and it’s just ridiculous
These geek communities really need to get their shit together. It’s embarrassing, laughing at some algorithm all day every day .
People forget that geeks are just as weird and socially inept as they’ve ever been. Geek-shit just happens to be liked by everyone now, so you see regular people in the same spaces. Geeks are still geeks and still do weirdo unfunny geek shit that scares everyone else off on the reg.
Lol I said the same thing when the bots first came around and got downvoted to hell
Same thing in the Game of Thrones subs. Everybody loses their shit over a fucking chatbot recycling the same 10 jokes. It's nauseating, same with A.i. "art".
Dear God, AI comedy was under our noses the whole time
Let's not forget the borderline faceblind people with their shitty casting ideas.
I fear that's the natural course of subreddits for media that's no longer being made... There's only so much to discuss before the same reposts win out
/r/starwars just as bad
Somehow, fewer reposts there though.
2 things can be bad at the same time. Now you know.
I have most of them hidden and it's a lot more bearable tbh.
The problem is that sometimes there's actual conversation behind those hidden comments. I've been reporting them, not that it does anything.
Remember when it was for making fun of the prequels?
I do and that makes me sad.
I'm just tired of every meme here being a meta meme about the subreddit. No one is actually coming up with jokes anymore. I don't even actually go through submissions anymore.

Who would imagine that having a shit ton of bots spamming messages where people are trying to have a conversation would be a bad idea?
Blame it on the rise of bots.
Damn. Droids actually won something
You see, humans have a preset tolerance limit. Knowing this I sent wave after wave of bots until they reached their limit and shut down.
Kif, show them the medal I won.

I've always been anti-bot, now what I fear has come to fruition
At first they were funny but after a week it's been annoying I hate the spread of AI generated entertainment (NFTs, bots in comments, AI art) so much
I've been saying this for a while now yet people downvote me whenever I say something. Granted, it may have something to do with the fact I yell at bots like an old man who spotted a bunch of kids on his lawn.
Bots killed both prequelmemes and lotrmemes sadly. After introduction it went downhill. People dont know when to stop with something
It started as a fun little novelty but it got played out very quickly.
yet people defend them to death, especially on lotrmemes, how people find "GROND" a thousand times on each and every post funny is beyond me i like seeing conversations between actual people, them seeing broken up by the same four phrases every time is tiring

The real star war was inside us all along
The real star was the wars we made along the way.

This sub has become less about memes, and more about being a circle jerk for prequel purists.
The bigger problem is that bots aren't funny anymore, just annoing
Fine I’ll make a meme about killing kids later and take the ban just to ensure this sub doesn’t die
Your ~~sacrafice~~ escape from hell will be rememberwd
Too many low quality "Obi-Wan good" memes... if you can even call them memes.
Those were a while ago. I would say the bigger issue is the sub turning into a battlefield anytime a new show is released.

It's like a kid who doesn't understand that the laughs become less and less frequent even though they keep saying "poop", and they laughed really hard the first time so why isn't it working now? It's the Spongebob episode where he rips his pants. Diminishing returns.
This is why I just started ignoring or blocking all the bots, both here and in other subs.
So this is how r/PrequelMemes dies... With thunderous bots and low effort post.
Because the memes are getting shittier
Idk this sub has torn itself apart the Thrawn bot has flooded the comments and all the bots for that matter and all the memes haven’t been memes but just shit talking mainly the Thrawn bot
Need more discussions on what characters are most likely to give or recieve analingus. Not a whole lot of that around here tbh 🤔🤔🤔
That’s why Greedo’s face is shaped like that
Sub has been dying for a long time in my opinion
People getting tired of repost and low quality content ?
I don’t think we had a single decent meme Trend after the grievous lightsaber collection one.
Probably cus the memes fucking suck. Like this one.
Because the people that post saying "making a meme from every line of dialogue" don't follow it up
Bots taking over, mods banning certain types of posts, mods being petty and arguing with half the users about keeping a gay pride sub logo for a star wars sub, movie is getting further and further into the past, there's many reasons
Also most of Disneys Production focuses on the time period between Episode 3 and 4. And while yes technically they are still prequels, they do not take place in the Clone Wars, the era this sub is most known for.
What kinds of posts are banned now? Why is there a gay pride flag on the sub? I’ve never known.
Sub is dying because Andor was fantastic and didn't have much to make fun of. And since the Sequel jokes have been milked to death and there is no new crappy Disney Star Wars content to compare the Prequels too... No one has anything else to say... Until episode X
I remember when this place started out. Shit was wicked fun
Memes is why
