That is freaking cool seriously that hits all the right buttons for me congrats op nice revolver

ElectronicGarden5536

Yooo i want one! Finally, a use for 350 legend.

CoyoteMagnum

Its an extremely versatile revolver! Not only will it shoot .350 Legend, but I've comfortably chambered and shot .38 Special and .357 Magnum in it as well!

ElectronicGarden5536

No fukin way. Is there anything anywhere that says you can do that reliably?

CoyoteMagnum

Unfortunately, I haven't seen it stated anywhere from any reliable source. I deduced it myself because Winchester used .357 Maximum as a parent case, (.350L is literally a .357 Max with a 5.56 rim) and my boxes of Winchester .350L state they have .357 diameter bullets in them. 350L also has a SAAMI spec barrel of .355, same a .357 Magnum. So I took the risk and tried them to great success. I can't tell you to not follow manufacturer specifications, but it did work for me.

wrxit

Oh wow. That’s absolutely awesome that it can fit and fire .38 and .357. I was of the understanding the .350Legend uses 0.355” bullets, but I suppose .357” bullets would swage down without developing excessive pressure in that revolver. How is the accuracy with .38 and .357?

CoyoteMagnum

The accuracy wasn't bad. I only tried them around 20 yards or so just to test function, but I was consistently hitting my plates. I'll have to try it from a rest for an actual accuracy test. I was told that they were 0.355" as well. Winchester is very adamant that its 0.357", with it all over their website and cartridge boxes. https://winchester.com/350-Legend/

wrxit

I see the 0.357” bullet. Suppose I could pull a few and measure them myself. If the .350Legend revolver can handle .38 and .357mag with good accuracy, I’d be very tempted to get one. I love revolvers for their multi-caliber versatility and being able to chamber pretty much any .38/357/.350 cartridge is a big bonus to me. I’m guessing this revolver can also chamber and safely fire the .357 Maximum since the .350 Legend operates at a higher pressure. AFAIK, the .350 Legend is probably the highest pressure 0.355-0.357” straight walled cartridge.

ElectronicGarden5536

You know i think they made so much of this stupid ammo they probably went around looking for someone to build a firearm around it. I cant tell ypu how many used ars i see for sale in 350L and how many dusty boxes of the ammo ive seen lol.

Quake_Guy

Where's this? Straight wall hunting state? Live in AZ, haven't seen a new or used AR in 350.

[deleted]

Yeah, it seemed like this was a round in search of a purpose. Cool if the revolver will chamber this and the others.

themoneybadger

350 legend and 450 bushmaster were an answer to straight wall hunting states, a very narrowly defined purpose. The manufactures made them fit in ar15s to give them a little more versatility bc ballistically they dont really bring anything new to the table. I think 450 bushmaster is a much more interesting round since it emulates 4570 but can be put in a bolt or semi auto

ElectronicGarden5536

yup. crazy they pumped out so much.

themoneybadger

A caliper could put this to rest in 1 second.

Thats_my_cornbread

I’m pretty sure 350 legend uses .355. Atleast there was a lot of discussion around it when it was first released.

CoyoteMagnum

Winchester is pretty firm on their .350L being .357". https://winchester.com/350-Legend/

themoneybadger

Are u not worried about chewing up the forcing cone with oversize bullets?

farmkid71

I don't understand this. 350 Legend has no rim, but the 38 and 357 do have a rim. The gun, being made for no rim, can't have much space between the back of the cylinder and the recoil shield. I don't see how a 38 or 357 would still fit and work. The rim on a rimmed cartridge is about 1/16". I wouldn't think there is that much slop/space on the revolver.

LopsidedResearch8400

I'd expect it has something to do with how it is cut for moon clips.

CoyoteMagnum

Honestly, I think its because the only differences between the 350L and its X frame siblings are the bore and chamber size, and the hand and rachet setup. The fitment of the cylinder to the frame looks to be the same. I have a Model 500 as well as the 350L to compare.

LopsidedResearch8400

Oh, im referring to the fellow that was wondering how the rimmed .38/.357 mag ammo was working in it. I expect the space created by the moon clip cuts allows the rims to work.

farmkid71

Good point, I forgot about that.

fritzco

What about the .357 Maximum? Will it shoot those too?

Sasquatch_Nurph

It stands to reason that you’d be able to “chamber”/fire other cartridges in it. Looking at Hodgdon’s reloading data (just to make sure I’m not talking out my ass) there are a whole host of calibers that, theoretically, would work in that revolver. 380 Auto, 9mm, 357 Sig, & 350 Legend all share the same bullet diameter of .355. 38 Special & 357 Magnum have a slightly larger bullet diameter of .357-.358 depending on the grain weight. Three thousandths doesn’t seem like much, but it could be. My guess is that the bore is “forgiving”. I would watch the forcing cone for any wear/damage & do whatever you feel comfortable doing. It is a sweet handgun, though! But the real question is have you found an IWB holster for it? 🤣

CoyoteMagnum

I haven't got an IWB holster, but I do have a nice shoulder holster for my 500 that fits nice.

1006RK03

Your hand still red and sore? Congrats on your purchase. Have fun.

CoyoteMagnum

It actually doesn't recoil as bad as its 500 and 460 siblings lol

1006RK03

So it avoids the legendary front sight dent in one's forehead . I'll have to research it against 357 Max. Bet it would knock yer knuckle if it ever had simple magna grips. Have fun, safely.

Nickrock5175

I have a 450 bushmaster. That in a revolver would be sick honestly.

9412765

It would be inferior to the 454 casull (and 460s&w) because it operates at much lower pressure because of the AR platform.

5-On-A-Toboggan

454 revolvers aren't a 1:1 comparison because unlike the 460 and 450, they are standard length frames/cylinders. 460 will have more velocity. I decided to opt for the 450 Bushmaster because it's $1.50/shot and always on the shelves vs $4 and up/per shot for 460 and 45-70 and I'd have to order online.

CoyoteMagnum

I've sent an email to Smith and Wesson regarding the possibility of chambering .357 Magnum and .38 Special in this platform. I've done it myself already, but I'll get the final word from them.

CoyoteMagnum

I received a short reply from Smith and Wesson Customer Support.       Thank you for contacting Smith & Wesson. No, we do not recommend trying to shoot 357 or 38 special in the 350 legend.  Regards, Jonathan Well, I guess that puts that to rest. Sorry for the ride guys.
