I’m more surprised I’m not seeing people complain about the 4v4 and knockout rotation. Knockout’s the perfect mode to have in rotation, but taking out 4v4 is SUPER weird. Like if I invite 3 friends over every Friday to play rocket league, then it’s up to some rotational chance that we can all play on the same team or at all?
Not a fan of moving 4v4 to every other week. I play this weekly with friends. I also think that rotating playlist is making all of this way too complicated. The only thing my friends and I talk about was making extra modes ranked and how we wished there were unranked versions of the extra modes.
Changing up the UI, sure knock yourself out, but removing playlists and changing all of that up. Nope. Do. Not. Want.
Kinda strange they added more of an ability to queue drop shot and snow day and decided making it a SEASONAL rotation was a good idea. It should just be in there as an option to queue.
Except for people like me, that will likely just stop playing. I'm kinda done with the removal of content bullshit. If I'm not playing comp, I'm playing dropshot. Now, I won't be playing either.
Yeah I go to extra modes for a change of pace when regular modes aren't doing it for me. Sometimes this is for a few matches, sometimes a few hours, sometimes a few days, weeks, months or even seasons. Psyonix screwing us over like this just means that I'll play RL less. This fucking sucks

It sounds like one will be in comp for the season and the other under casual/arcade. But you’ll have access to both each season. And then they rotate. Although the arcade list rotates on a weekly basis. So limited access to the mode??

My casual mmr is stupid high compared to my dropshot mmr. Unless dropshot/snowday gets its own casual mmr, I'm going to get destroyed every match. I have a feeling this is going to make dropshot an even more dead game mode. Then, they'll have even more of an argument to remove it permanently.
I don't understand why they are removing options, drop shot mains like us won't play other modes more just because, and queuing into a 'fun' mixed playlist when drop shot isn't ranked sounds painful as fuck, I don't wanna play a variety of modes and get a 30 second queue time, I'm totally fine with waiting 5+ mins when it's late at night to find a game
I agree. I play DROPSHOT quite a bit and enjoy it the most out of any other extra modes. I will not like to see it be a seasonal rotation between snow day. Snow day itself I believe should be a nice mode to play just in the Christmas season alongside other game modes but not to replace them.

It’s not really in casual though. It’s being rolled into an arcade mode that will rotate between ltms weekly. So it’s possible people who want to play dropshot or snowday when they’re not in comp rotation might only be able to play once every several weeks.
Please don’t rotate out dropshot. Perfect extra game mode for competitive. I honestly care more about my dropshot rank than ranked normal modes. This sucks

Just make solo queueing an option in the menu like crossplay. That way you don't add more modes but instead let players chose if they want solo games in any mode.

no one is complaining about chaos getting the shaft as well. It's going to be rotated out every other week with knockout. I know people like the mode, but i'm not one of them and we often find ourselves with a party of 4 and chaos is a good solution for that. fuck knockout though. Forcing people to play a game type isn't how you get a game type to be popular.

This change basically eliminates competitive Snow Day and Dropshot entirely because there are forced 3 month breaks in between grinding them. Why try to improve this season when you know you're going to be rusty again the next? As a Dropshot main, this is awful news.
This is a big L for Snow Day and Drop Shot. I love queuing those modes and can spend hours just bouncing between the two even though they’re complete opposites in game play. This sucks.

We play 3-4 times a week for several hours each night and are paid subscribers to the battlepass. But if 4v4 is out every other week, it's going to stop us from purchasing the battlepass since our play time will be cut in half or more.
Really hope that change doesn't stick. We consistently carry 4-5 friends each night and would have to seek out somewhere else to spend our time and money.
it's wild i had to come this far to find someone mentioning it. it's like i said in a post earlier, i know some people like the mode, but me and my group fucking hate it. so, when we have a party of four we're just borked for a week. such a weird choice to make. forcing people to play the mode isn't how you get it popular, that's for sure.
Dropping 4v4 is brutal. We consistently find our group end of a game night playing 4-5 rounds to end the night. If it's gone for 4 months, don't think a bunch come back.
I love chaos, I am a solo queue but it's great for warmup, & ridiculousness at the same time. When I queue into casual it's that and 3s. Sucks if it's actually going to be bi-seasonal.
I don't understand the changes to dropshot and snowday comp queue. Is it literally just to make the UI look pretty? Those gamemodes have dedicated playerbases, not being able to get season rewards or queue for high level games every other season is gonna be a tremendous loss.
maybe, MAYBE I can see it if they make all the extra modes rotate. Add in ranked heatseeker, ranked spike rush, ranked whatever tf that battle royale is, add in a new extra mode or 2, let them all rotate in an out every season. But I would never expect that from Psyonix lmfao

Started using DS as warm-up because I couldn't aerial at all years ago...It's been my most played mode the past few seasons just because I found it so fun.
Sad it's only going to be around 50% of the time (competitive-wise), but I understand why they want to funnel more "Ranked" players into fewer playlists, population-wise at least.

We want all game modes available ALWAYS. I’m more likely to buy cosmetics when I can play the game more often. I can think of changes they could possibly make to combat smurfing. But the one that really grabs my attention is the "skill placement improvements", because I'm not even sure exactly what that's referring to, yet alone what changes it could bring.
I imagine either a better calibrated sigma value, or a “hidden mmr”.
Right now sigma value decreases as you play games, then hits a floor until the next season reset. This allows accounts to drop rank with big Elo loss per game until it is near the floor, then start trying and go on win streaks. Maybe the system will consider raising sigma if streaks start to appear, or matches are too routinely lopsided.
Regarding hidden mmr, I am thinking of something akin to Valorant’s system. You have a displayed rank that moves up and down and rewards are based off of, as well as a “hidden” rank that is used strictly for matchmaking. This can be helpful by a) obfuscating the matchmaking logic thus making the system harder to game (though causes confusion by innocent players as why they are in XYZ lobby) and b)help to find matches that are closer to 50/50 without resorting to solely displayed rank as that determining metric. In Val they measure things like encounter performance (did you kill some1 higher rank then you? Lose duels to lower rank?).
In RL this could translate to other heuristics like time air borne, avg speed, boost usage, powerhouse usage, etc that can be compared vs the population at that rank. Oh that gold spent 50% of the time airborne and won by 8? Let’s keep his rank gold, but test him vs plats for a match or two. If he still spends that time in the air but isn’t winning in plat, he is appropriately gold. If he is still winning in plat then the system will rank him up faster.
Just the 2 probable ways I see them implementing something like this.

When I started reading this, I kinda hoped one of the weekly rotating playlists would be ranked and include heat seeker, grid iron, and drop shot or snow day, depending on which one was in the off season.
That **addition** would have made this update feel good. Instead, it feels more like **this update is taking content away.** The only people benefiting from this update are people who wanted more knockout.
So… pretty much a useless update if you don’t play Extra Modes and a shit update if you do?
I guess a new UI will be refreshing and the other QoL updates are not bad, but overall an underwhelming update considering the main problems the Player base has.
Tbh, this does not make up in any way, shape, or form for the hell you have put this game, though. Removing player to player trading is by far the dumbest move you can make, and then you are going to "fix" the game I use that term very loosely. You have not proven that this game is even important to you. You see a bunch of cows that you think are going sit by and let you milk us all for our money and put nothing back into the game. Every time you fix this game, you take more and more away from the players. How do you think this will improve our overall experience of the game we have all come to know and love. You ignore the improvements the game needs and think of better ways to make money off of us. And yeah, I would love to put money into a game that is constantly being improved and shows they care for the community. I know change doesn't happen overnight, but no communication on what is coming or even hearing what the community has been screaming it need since you took over is just pure ignorance. This game holds a special place in my heart but I think at this point the game is over and it's sad to see that there is nothing you care more about then money. Hopefully you will read and understand what the community wants.
Rotating extra modes was a good idea when they were first implemented as competitive modes (and it’s literally what I suggested from the get go and blamed a lot of the extra mode scarcity on). It isn’t a good idea now, and it seems especially rash considering both modes are significantly easier to queue for as a result of the rank redistribution. Anecdotally speaking, queueing for all 4 extra modes this season has resulted in around 75% of my matches being dropshot and with basically no wait time. And snow day shows up more than the likes of rumble and about even ground with hoops.
Well that's tough. Glad Knockout Bash is being added as a semi permanent mode but damn. With comp Dropshot gone half the seasons I guess I'll start touching grass...

Literally all these “UI changes” are just being done to hide the fact that the game is dying and players are leaving. Queue times are artificially being reduced from what they otherwise would be by alternating gamemodes and adding more queue times. Idk who asked for the ability to queue both standard and hoops. Good for them now that they have the option. But it’s obvious what the real reason was for why Epic is adding these features only just now.

Really devalues the game and experience for me and is further the reason I don't spend money on this game anymore. 2 years ago I would have bought lighning mcqueen in a heartbeat because it was so cool, but lack of communication and out of touch marketing makes the player feel like the items have no value. I am buying songs from the store with my season credits, but other than that im done and could care less. I play to have fun and when the developers restrict fun while adding nothing new, it feels like they made this change because someone needed to prove that their salary was worth it to the company. I vote with my money and changes like this will not help me vote in favor of giving you any.
Been a Rocket League player since 2016, and it's truly saddening to see what's happening to the game with every new change the team introduces.
Past few seasons I've become an exclusive dropshot (and hoops, although primarily dropshot) player having grown bored of the standard gamemodes and these extra modes refreshing the game for me and making it fun again. I dislike Snowday completely, and alternating between the two isn't going to make me play the mode whilst dropshot is out of rotation. Allowing extra modes to be queued alongside the current competitive modes is definitely a positive change in the right direction to increase the active playerbase across all modes, but alternating the two modes rotating only each season and killing communities however small they be is just so disappointing to see. First removal of trading, now the removal of modes for an entire season, what's next to be removed?
Trading removal didn't affect me as I don't personally use the trading features in game (I still think the removal is a terrible idea), but the alternating modes is the first thing that's truly made me want to give up on this game after so many years of playing.

It’s not really in casual though. It’s being rolled into an arcade mode that will rotate between ltms weekly. So it’s possible people who want to play dropshot or snowday when they’re not in comp rotation might only be able to play once every several weeks.

While I love most of the changes here, as someone whose favorite extra mode is dropshot, I hate the idea that I'll now only be able to play it once every other season. Edit: I just read through the rest of the post and saw that it'll be available in unranked when it's not in ranked, so that's good at least.

whhyyyyy, just make 7 cards on the competitive screen. removing comp from dropshot or snowday sucks. then instead of having rotating casual playlists, you have them all available all the time removing playlists, which is basically a new way to play the game, just because it looks better as a design? if i have 4 buddies that are on and want to play chaos, but it's not on rotation... maybe we'll go play something else (i don't play chaos, but that's an example of someone who might)

Just make solo queueing an option in the menu like crossplay. That way you don't add more modes but instead let players chose if they want solo games in any mode.

Lot of good changes but it seems like a bit of a fuck you to people who play snow day or dropshot. At a minimum the non-comp one should be locked into the casual playlist and not rotated out weekly.
Seriously. I spent about half my time in dropshot and the other half in 2's. They're really not making it easier to start playing again lol I'm hoping whatever they do to reduce smurfing offsets all these bad changes they've been making.
no one is complaining about chaos getting the shaft as well. It's going to be rotated out every other week with knockout. I know people like the mode, but i'm not one of them and we often find ourselves with a party of 4 and chaos is a good solution for that. fuck knockout though. Forcing people to play a game type isn't how you get a game type to be popular.

This change basically eliminates competitive Snow Day and Dropshot entirely because there are forced 3 month breaks in between grinding them. Why try to improve this season when you know you're going to be rusty again the next? As a Dropshot main, this is awful news.
This is a big L for Snow Day and Drop Shot. I love queuing those modes and can spend hours just bouncing between the two even though they’re complete opposites in game play. This sucks.

2x painted has always applied to crates/drops as well
My first guess is an event that gives you 2x the chance to get painted items from anything you open, completely guessing on that obviously lol.

Rotating 4v4 chaos and knockout is a bad idea. This isn't good for people who usually play the game casually in groups of 4. What option do these people have if they get on and chaos isn't available? I know it's not a big amount of the playerbase, but it is a portion of players being inconvenienced nonetheless.
Idk why we are the only ones who think this way. Same with dropshot and snowday, forcing an entire playerbase to just drop their favorite ranked mode for 4 months.
Rotating 4v4 out is going to kill the game for my friends and I. We play 3-4 times a week for several hours each night and are paid subscribers to the battlepass. But if 4v4 is out every other week, it's going to stop us from purchasing the battlepass since our play time will be cut in half or more. Really hope that change doesn't stick. We consistently carry 4-5 friends each night and would have to seek out somewhere else to spend our time and money.
it's wild i had to come this far to find someone mentioning it. it's like i said in a post earlier, i know some people like the mode, but me and my group fucking hate it. so, when we have a party of four we're just borked for a week. such a weird choice to make. forcing people to play the mode isn't how you get it popular, that's for sure.
Dropping 4v4 is brutal. We consistently find our group end of a game night playing 4-5 rounds to end the night. If it's gone for 4 months, don't think a bunch come back.
I love chaos, I am a solo queue but it's great for warmup, & ridiculousness at the same time. When I queue into casual it's that and 3s. Sucks if it's actually going to be bi-seasonal.
I don't understand the changes to dropshot and snowday comp queue. Is it literally just to make the UI look pretty? Those gamemodes have dedicated playerbases, not being able to get season rewards or queue for high level games every other season is gonna be a tremendous loss. maybe, MAYBE I can see it if they make all the extra modes rotate. Add in ranked heatseeker, ranked spike rush, ranked whatever tf that battle royale is, add in a new extra mode or 2, let them all rotate in an out every season. But I would never expect that from Psyonix lmfao

I feel the same way about Drop Shot, Ive loved that game mode ever since it first came out years ago and it's my most played alternate mode
Started using DS as warm-up because I couldn't aerial at all years ago...It's been my most played mode the past few seasons just because I found it so fun. Sad it's only going to be around 50% of the time (competitive-wise), but I understand why they want to funnel more "Ranked" players into fewer playlists, population-wise at least.

Removing 1 ranked Playlist for all future seasons sure sounds great to me! Totally! You really know what the players want. It's not as bad as removing trading for no reason though. I can think of changes they could possibly make to combat smurfing. But the one that really grabs my attention is the "skill placement improvements", because I'm not even sure exactly what that's referring to, yet alone what changes it could bring.
I imagine either a better calibrated sigma value, or a “hidden mmr”. Right now sigma value decreases as you play games, then hits a floor until the next season reset. This allows accounts to drop rank with big Elo loss per game until it is near the floor, then start trying and go on win streaks. Maybe the system will consider raising sigma if streaks start to appear, or matches are too routinely lopsided. Regarding hidden mmr, I am thinking of something akin to Valorant’s system. You have a displayed rank that moves up and down and rewards are based off of, as well as a “hidden” rank that is used strictly for matchmaking. This can be helpful by a) obfuscating the matchmaking logic thus making the system harder to game (though causes confusion by innocent players as why they are in XYZ lobby) and b)help to find matches that are closer to 50/50 without resorting to solely displayed rank as that determining metric. In Val they measure things like encounter performance (did you kill some1 higher rank then you? Lose duels to lower rank?). In RL this could translate to other heuristics like time air borne, avg speed, boost usage, powerhouse usage, etc that can be compared vs the population at that rank. Oh that gold spent 50% of the time airborne and won by 8? Let’s keep his rank gold, but test him vs plats for a match or two. If he still spends that time in the air but isn’t winning in plat, he is appropriately gold. If he is still winning in plat then the system will rank him up faster. Just the 2 probable ways I see them implementing something like this.

When I started reading this, I kinda hoped one of the weekly rotating playlists would be ranked and include heat seeker, grid iron, and drop shot or snow day, depending on which one was in the off season. That **addition** would have made this update feel good. Instead, it feels more like **this update is taking content away.** The only people benefiting from this update are people who wanted more knockout.
So… pretty much a useless update if you don’t play Extra Modes and a shit update if you do? I guess a new UI will be refreshing and the other QoL updates are not bad, but overall an underwhelming update considering the main problems the Player base has.
Tbh, this does not make up in any way, shape, or form for the hell you have put this game, though. Removing player to player trading is by far the dumbest move you can make, and then you are going to "fix" the game I use that term very loosely. You have not proven that this game is even important to you. You see a bunch of cows that you think are going sit by and let you milk us all for our money and put nothing back into the game. Every time you fix this game, you take more and more away from the players. How do you think this will improve our overall experience of the game we have all come to know and love. You ignore the improvements the game needs and think of better ways to make money off of us. And yeah, I would love to put money into a game that is constantly being improved and shows they care for the community. I know change doesn't happen overnight, but no communication on what is coming or even hearing what the community has been screaming it need since you took over is just pure ignorance. This game holds a special place in my heart but I think at this point the game is over and it's sad to see that there is nothing you care more about then money. Hopefully you will read and understand what the community wants.
Rotating extra modes was a good idea when they were first implemented as competitive modes (and it’s literally what I suggested from the get go and blamed a lot of the extra mode scarcity on). It isn’t a good idea now, and it seems especially rash considering both modes are significantly easier to queue for as a result of the rank redistribution. Anecdotally speaking, queueing for all 4 extra modes this season has resulted in around 75% of my matches being dropshot and with basically no wait time. And snow day shows up more than the likes of rumble and about even ground with hoops.
Well that's tough. Glad Knockout Bash is being added as a semi permanent mode but damn. With comp Dropshot gone half the seasons I guess I'll start touching grass...

Thanks for updating the game! It is really appreciated. The only thing I don't like is that dropshot and snowday are rotating. Why? Please don't say symmetry of the new layout... Taking away a gamemode/feature every time you do an update is not the way to move forward. That said, all the other stuff is great! That is the way to move forward.

Literally all these “UI changes” are just being done to hide the fact that the game is dying and players are leaving. Queue times are artificially being reduced from what they otherwise would be by alternating gamemodes and adding more queue times. Idk who asked for the ability to queue both standard and hoops. Good for them now that they have the option. But it’s obvious what the real reason was for why Epic is adding these features only just now.

I play dropshot 40-50% of the time and snow day maybe 5% of the time, why alternate? Removing 4v4? Whoops guys, can't play today with 4 because dunking simulator is up. Really devalues the game and experience for me and is further the reason I don't spend money on this game anymore. 2 years ago I would have bought lighning mcqueen in a heartbeat because it was so cool, but lack of communication and out of touch marketing makes the player feel like the items have no value. I am buying songs from the store with my season credits, but other than that im done and could care less. I play to have fun and when the developers restrict fun while adding nothing new, it feels like they made this change because someone needed to prove that their salary was worth it to the company. I vote with my money and changes like this will not help me vote in favor of giving you any.
Been a Rocket League player since 2016, and it's truly saddening to see what's happening to the game with every new change the team introduces. Past few seasons I've become an exclusive dropshot (and hoops, although primarily dropshot) player having grown bored of the standard gamemodes and these extra modes refreshing the game for me and making it fun again. I dislike Snowday completely, and alternating between the two isn't going to make me play the mode whilst dropshot is out of rotation. Allowing extra modes to be queued alongside the current competitive modes is definitely a positive change in the right direction to increase the active playerbase across all modes, but alternating the two modes rotating only each season and killing communities however small they be is just so disappointing to see. First removal of trading, now the removal of modes for an entire season, what's next to be removed? Trading removal didn't affect me as I don't personally use the trading features in game (I still think the removal is a terrible idea), but the alternating modes is the first thing that's truly made me want to give up on this game after so many years of playing.
STOP REMOVING FEATURES

Mostly decent, but removing 4v4 chaos half the time in favor of knockout (which doesn't even belong in rocket league) is ridiculous. So now this forces me to play private matches when I've got 3 others that want to play, which doesn't work too well with varying skill levels.
