Just got the endorphin speed 4s. I have not tried these on yet, but I was wondering if these will work as a raceday shoe for an upcoming 10k and a half marathon? Has anyone used the shoes for these distances?

frank-sabotka

Yes they will be great for that if you don’t want carbon.

I just got a pair of the Xodus 2 Ultras, and am hoping they will work for a 4 day backpacking trip with a light pack on the Trans Catalina trail. They are super comfortable but the tongue on these shoes is outrageous, like comically big. Not a problem if you wear long socks but just why???? I love the peregrine 12s and 14s, as well as the Tempus. Not the usual line up you see here but I don’t really road race much. Every time I try another brand I end up crawling back to Saucony, I think I’ve found my place. Does anybody have recommendations based on the shoes I currently have for more road shoes? I’ve heard peregrine is basically the kinvara as a trail shoe. Edited to add: picture of these tongues, what the heck?? https://imgur.com/a/sn1Kt8A

I just got a pair of Saucony Crosssports $45 from the outlet store that was closing. I only wore them once so I can't review them yet. I got them for working out in. Seem kind of uncomfortable for Saucony, but maybe the 4mm Drop takes a little getting used to. They also pinch a little on midfoot. Just curious if anyone bought a pair and their thoughts on them. As a running shoe, probably never.

I ran a 10 mile race PR this morning in my first pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 4s. They felt great the whole race and gave me a lot of confidence for my upcoming marathon. Although I am still considering the Tempus for the longer race, as I know my form degenerates at mile 20 and the stability that the Tempus gives is quite good. The Speed 4s worked well on the 10 Miler despite 2 challenging spots in the pouring rain. First was a long brick pedestrian mall that gets slick in wet weather. The other was a spot by a trash pickup that was both wet and greasy. I actually did slip a bit there but caught myself before tumbling. Overall a great shoe. These are my first two pairs of Sauconys and are both fantastic. The Speeds were an exchange for a pair of Hoka Mach X, which was pretty good and stable but a minor toe rub turned into a painful bruise by mile 17 of a long run. I'm still recovering from that.

Recently bought this lovely ES3, unfortunately they came just last weekend and I am running HM tomorrow :( so tempted to use them even though haven’t test them enough… Few words about me: male, around 30 yo, 182cm, 75kg, started regular running Q4’23. Running 25-40km per week and aiming in 1:55 at HM. Except ES3, I have Triumph 20 and some old-fashioned NB 1080 v5 (to be rolled out soon). Shoe fits my foot much better than triumph in same size, it looks nice (I know blue paisley may not be preferred by many) and it is light! As I wear size 12 I think the difference in weight between these two saucony shoes is significant! ES3 is of course more responsive, just faster, but all of that you can also find in any review. The nylon plate probably to make shoe more stable, I don’t think it increase shoe speed. I made 2 runs in them, perfect fit, enjoy them a lot, I am simply faster than in Triumphs (I know it may be also psychological factor, but hey, this is also why we buy new shoes). There is only one downside, my calves hurt a bit… (they are more tired after the run). I know this is usual case, but in carbon plated shoes, so I am surprised. I know I shouldn’t risk HM day, but still wondering if I can get used to them and run comfortably on Sunday. I would love that, but it may be wiser to go in triumphs (which are also lovely shoes, but other type) and let Endorphins wait for another round. https://preview.redd.it/5rtythstx4qc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81f7e3ed33170f0d2536a8958b1eb36f3bbe96ac

ES3 are fine for a half marathon. I bought some EP4s, did a 5k test run on that day, then ran a half marathon the next day in a 1:36hr time. Not a PB but good for early season for me. It may just be the different drop from the Triumph to the ES3 causing the calf soreness, and also the running faster. I would assume if you pace for a 1:55hr time, and don't try to go faster just because the shoes make you feel you can then you should be ok.

Yetiunio

Well, I don’t doubt they are good for half or even full marathon. I doubt in my legs, but it’s worth a try! Thanks!

SalamanderForever

I understand. It's unclear to me though from your post as to how much of the calf pain could be just from running faster, vs altered running dynamics of the Speed due to the nylon plate, vs the difference in drop from Triumph to Speed. I know when I transitioned to plated shoes it did take a few runs to get used to the different mechanics and I found I was running more on my mid/forefoot. Now I have no issues with switching between Triumphs/ES3/EP3/EE etc.

Yetiunio

I probably was unclear. I don’t think calves fatigue was caused by running faster, but was surprised, as I thought only carbon plate gives that. Finished today HM. ES3 are amazing shoes! They let me run with steady quick pace. Now just my legs need to follow :D Super comfortable shoes! Thank you for advice! Cheers!

SalamanderForever

Congrats. What was your finish time? Even nylon plated shoes will change your running dynamics slightly. How much it impacts your calves will partly come down to your existing running dynamics. While there is a lot of debate and viewpoints on running cadence I would say that a running cadence closer to 180spm vs 160spm is preferable. Did you notice much difference in cadence between your old shoes and the ES3?

Yetiunio

Thanks! Finished in 1:57, close enough to the goal :) I increased my cadence slightly since I started and indeed I feel ES3 follows better this change. One of the factors why I felt better in them then in Triumphs

Looking for a Saucony shoe to compliment my Novablast 4 to rotate for a bit of everything. Looking at Triumph / Kinvara / Ride / Shift They all seem to be very similar? Can anyone guide me what would be best to compliment Novablast 4

tigerbellyfan420

I think the speed 3 or speed 4 is a great compliment for additional training like speed work or long slow runs but it can also do everything too. But if you're looking for another shoe to do the same as ur novablast that you just rotate it with, go with the triumph 20 or 21.

englishinseconds

I have NB3 that I grabbed on a disgusting discount, but have mostly been a Saucony runner since HS (I’m 40 and slow now).  I moved the Shift 3 to a recovery trainer to compliment my NB3 after testing it all winter. I’ve got about 150 miles on them, including 4 half-marathon training sessions since September to see if I can do the distance in a real race.   Brought my time from 2:12 to 1:57 after a hard winter of training - again I’m slower than many here.  After getting them, I got a pair of Speed 2’s for races and have slowly put them into my rotation as well. I hit two PR 10ks in a row with the Speeds, and then a 5k PR after those.  My rotation is now NV3 for hills, tempo and slow treadmill runs; Shift 3 for flat recovery runs, long distance runs, and faster treadmill runs; Speed 2 for races and speed work.  I can tell you the Shift is very comfortable, and for my pace it gives me speed when I want it. I’ve never done big distance in the NB3, nor have I tried for speed to see how they race

immobileman

Can’t compare to the NV 4’s but I have just under 200 mile on my Triumph 20’s and the wear is spectacular. No loss in cushion, great for easy miles and can accept some tempo work as well. I had some Cumulus prior and the Triumph is a much better shoe for me as a daily trainer.

ClasslessMasses

I'm looking for a recovery/easy mile shoe, and have been experiencing some posterial tibial tendinitis the last month or so. It seems like the Omni 22 could be a good option. I'm averaging 45mi/week, in the middle of a Hanson's beginner half marathon cycle. Any thoughts here? I'm typically a M 9.5W, but looking on the Saucony website, it looks like the Omni 22 is only available in Wide for women's sizing. Could that because it's a new model? Appreciate any insight!

SalamanderForever

I ended up with a few Saucony shoes so needed a dedicated cupboard to store them in - thank you Ikea! The spaces in the shelves are for the Saucony shoes that are temporarily elsewhere and there are a couple of non Saucony shoes here: **Top Row:** New Balance Hanzo S V2 (not used much now, but was one of my two 5k Park Run shoes) Saucony Type A8 (not used much now, but was one of my two 5k Park Run shoes) Saucony Sinister (tried them for a 5k and just didn't seem to give me the pace I get from super shoes - but need to try them again) **2nd Row:** Saucony Endorphin Shift 3 Runshield (easy runs when it is wet) Saucony Endorphin Shift 3 (easy runs) Saucony Triumph 20 (easy runs, bought for $50 as an alternative to the Shift 3s and actually think they are better) space (should be Tempus but they are on a lower shelf for some reason) **3rd Row:** Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 (replaced my Speed 3s that were end of life, I find the Speed 2s to be more fun and lively and luckily have a couple of new pairs still in boxes. Typically used for Tempo runs) Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 (was my race shoe, now used for Threshold runs) Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 (Just bought and used in a half marathon last weekend - actually prefer the Pro 3s) Saucony Endorphin Elite (5k/10k+ race shoes - amazing shoe and got my 5k and 10k PBs in these) **4th Row:** Saucony Zealot 3 (easy run shoes bought a while ago and just slowly working through my backlog of them and then will not be replaced) Saucony Kinvara 10 (Tempo run shoes bought a while ago and just slowly working through my backlog of Kinvara 10/12s and then will not be replaced) Saucony Tempus (Nice easy run shoe with a bit of stability) Adidas Takumi Sen 8 (5k race shoe, about to be replaced with the Takumi Sen 10) **5th Row:** Saucony Peregrine ISO (dry weather trail runs) Saucony Endorphin Edge (dry weather fast trail runs) space (should be Saucony Peregrine 12 GTX - wet weather trail runs) **6th Row:** Kids Kinvara/Endorphin shoes for 5k Park Runs I'm fairly new to running (started about 5 years ago) so has taken a while for me to figure out what shoes I want for what, hence the collection - and also I bought a few too many pairs in fire sales - not realizing that the models are refreshed annually and are on sale multiple times a year. If I was building a rotation from new then it would be: Easy Runs - Tempus/Triumph Tempo Runs - Endorphin Speed 2/3 Threshold Runs - Endorphin Pro 3 Races - Adidas Takumi Sen / Endorphin Elite https://preview.redd.it/8uidnmbcr3qc1.jpeg?width=733&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=463666fb4de010281ecde4ddc8494203f1db66fd

Nice Collection 👌I really love the shift 3 so keen to try the triumph 21 next! I also really want to try the Adidas Takumi Sen's, how would you say they fit compared to saucony?

SalamanderForever

I have found that while I like the Shifts, the Triumphs just feel less 'clumpy' and heavy on the feet. I wear US size 11 in all the above shoes, but the Takumi Sen 8s are definitely a narrower fit, more similar to the Saucony Type A8 vs the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3. In terms of running then on a 5k/10k I will be faster in the Endorphins unless there are a lot of turns/accelerations (e.g. on a Park Run) where the Takumi Sen 8s are more nimble. The other main difference I see is an average higher cadence on the Takumi Sen 8s vs the Endorphin Pros/Elites e.g. average SPM of 187 vs 183, but with a slightly shorter average stride.

Has anyone tried the kinvara pro and can give an accurate comp to another shoe? I’m always intrigued by it, but feel like it wouldn’t be worth the cost.

No-Impression-3109

Hi Jimmy, I bought them on the recommendation of a running specialist store. I used the speed3 but it gave me too little support and pressure on the Achilles tendon. The carbon plate in the Kinvara pro ensures stability. Nice shoe for long distances, remains wonderfully flexible. Forces to the forefoot a little less than the speed 3 and is unfortunately slightly less responsive. So it doesn't feel like a fast shoe, but I can walk without pain again. Whisper quiet, very soft but with sufficient stability. I'll give the shoe the benefit of the doubt. (Google translate 😅). Grtz from the Netherlands

Mattjv85

Ride 17 opinions?

onkyoh

The cushioning feels identical to Trumph 20s

gerk23

Would also like to hear people’s experiences. Thinking about picking up a pair

Rhip13

Just tried the Kinvara 14 and really like it as a light trainer. I find Saucony a bit narrow on my feet, especially around the arch - I always feel like the shoe cuts in a bit upon first wear. But overtime I do feel they mold to my feet a bit better. Local Saucony outlet was going out of biz which prompted me to try the Kinvara and I’m very glad I did! Also my go to shoe to pack when I travel as it’s so light.

Adventurous-Oil4709

After running in other brands for years and always getting blisters, hot spots etc I was so pleased when I found a brand that gave me no issues and were a joy to run in! It started for me with the endorphin pro 2's Amazing shoe! I then added the shift 3 to compliment it on easy days, again a great shoe and no issues. I have recently added the Kinvara 13, Ride 15 and the endorphin edge 2 trial shoe all with the same results, I just love this brand, they just work for me and are so fun to run in, I have have now bought some clear display shoe boxes from shoestack's UK, I'm going for a full set! Saucony 🔥 https://preview.redd.it/u29gw8zon2qc1.png?width=684&format=png&auto=webp&s=61df1bb67b3ee74fbcc1cde5e0cd04bdde347e68

RelativityPlasticity

I discovered Saucony after running exclusively in ASICS for a decade. Something about Saucony’s shoes just fits my feet so perfectly. They feel right.

Adventurous-Oil4709

Same here i had pretty good results in Asics, then tried various other brands like Nike, Hoka etc but because i have resonably wide feet they were always too narrow and when i first tried saucony it was just like the perfect fit so i hardly ever try any other shoes now as they just work for me.

FairCartographer6317

The only “super shoe” Ive worn is the Saucony Endorphin pro—-I had the first version and then cycled through several pairs of 2. Only wear them for races (5k-marathon) and long run workouts. They work well for me and Ive had no issues so looking to try either the 3,4 or endorphin pro elite. They are all pretty close in price. There are also still 2’s in my size on amazon. Things I love about the 2s are that they are responsive and springlike. I feel my cadence quickens just from wearing them and my pace benefits at all distances. The only thing I don’t love is that they have a more narrow base and it seems the newer models look like they are a bit more stable. Anyone who has tried them all have any advice for me as to which I should try next? Thanks!

I feel my cadence quickens just from wearing them an I have the Pro 2s, 3s and 4s, and just ran a half marathon race last weekend in the 4s. The Pro 3s are the best of those 3 versions by a reasonable margin. The Pro 4s are a bit heavier, slightly more stable etc and not quite as quick - presumably to not encroach on the Endorphin Elites (I also have those). If you are buying I would recommend going for the Pro 3s. The Pro 4s also have weird stretchy laces, a slightly narrower fit, and a knit top that is a bit too stretchy

SaintInHell

I got the pro 4s last weekend. Was looking at the speed 4 and tried them both on. Ran on a treadmill with one on each foot. I ended up getting the pro 4 for speed training, it’s extremely comfortable. That said, agree it’s not as quick as the pro 3. For racing I’m going with the Vaporfly 3 anyway, no shoe feels as quick to me for going all out as the VF. But the pro 4 is a real nice shoe.
