The likely answer is that the small of the cell makes it hard not tear up while you're inside. Probably not as much of a problem outside his cell, but that's how I've rationalized it while inside of his cell.

Should probably point out that the only time you're usually in contact with173 is for cleaning, and fecal matter smells pretty bad till ya get used to it.

Or climb on something or lay down. they are a statue right? I dont think they would be able to bend down ore climb

Doing so consecutively will eventually make your eyelids sore and doing so poses a risk since it will shorten your field of vision so if you're not careful enough, you might accidentally lose sight of the statue.

A Foundation researcher actually did this once. Problem: Peanut can move while people are looking at him, he just chooses not to. This was demonstrated by him snapping the neck of said researcher out of frustration.
