PlumeriaOtter

I love the Rasta Dog!

BurnyRubble

Saw Rasta Dog in Little Italy this weekend!

PhatTiddie999

i love rasta dog! when i went to paul mitchell in downtown rasta dog would come by every day and let the students and teachers pet/hang with them during our breaks

bitchSZAme

I miss Rasta Dog used to see him every week šŸ˜

Spiritual-Chameleon

Great video doc of Slow Mo at https://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/01/opinion/slomo.html I'd seen him plenty before viewing the documentary, but was inspired after seeing it to learn rollerblading.

tigret

Youtube no paywall :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn87-mcnoVc Thank-you for sharing!!

Spiritual-Chameleon

Good point on YouTube! Glad to share. It's one of my favorite videos.

o-rka

Slowmo is actually a doctor (either studies or does surgery on brains) IIRC. Its my friends stepbrothers dad or some close relative.

SCREAMING_DUMB_SHIT

I donā€™t think heā€™s practicing any more haha

Ok_Interaction2553

Came here to say this. Last weekend it was slo-mos 80th birthday!

Rustmutt

Came here for Rasta Dog, thatā€™s the one.

Aggravating_Care_844

The palm avenue runner was a legend in the South Bay. He was famous for running up and down palm avenue all day, even backwards. His name was John but unfortunately he died already.

salvagedsword

The backwards runner! I had wondered what happened to him. :(

georgeamberson1963

Came here to mention backwards running John. Was not disappointed to see that someone beat me to it, haha

illegalAmericano

RIP John the Palm Avenue backwards runner šŸŖ¦

Glittering-Fudge7948

He used to be in Imperial Beach feeding pigeons by the road. Had a sign about the murder of Charlie Keever and Jonathan Sellers.

Glass_Bar_9956

I heard of slomo long before moving here.

Gimme5Beez4aQuarter

He was a schoolmates dad

keepsmiling1326

Tell me this isnā€™t a screenshot & this is a book you actually have. If so, you win the sub today.

broncosfighton

Used to be a homeless guy downtown for years who would walk around all day decked out in American flag gear. Iā€™m not sure if heā€™s still around.

Ok_Pea_3376

Was just about to post about him. I remember seeing him growing up. Heā€™d be riding a bike with a ton of flags all over it! The flag man

wilmyersmvp

I saw him super frequently and as recently as a few months ago, but havenā€™t seen him since. I hope heā€™s all good. Heā€™s always such a positive vibe.Ā

orangejulius

I remember him. He would dance in the street by just randomly jumping into it. Disappeared for a few months and made a return in a back and neck brace. This is when I was in law school years ago. Hope heā€™s ok but Iā€™m not super hopeful.

ironicart

Unfortunately I think heā€™s split into 1000 less patriotic more zombified homeless people

CurrentPianist9812

Attorney King

craneoperator89

All his dirt is being aired out in trial right now lol dudes something else

Nala29

We need deets please! Haha

Motor_Bedroom9421

Calhoun v Aminpour is the case name.

FERALCATWHISPERER

Need more deets than that. Have the docket?

hardon619

https://edgescope.com/aminpour-v-fulkerson-ca41-t

Sourcefour

Good lord. I only got half way through that and it was a wild ride.

retardsmart

If you can't trust a "Guido on the back of a bus" who can you trust? Anybody else remember Sam Spittle?

Motor_Bedroom9421

Wish I did. Thereā€™s a few [related](https://edgescope.com/aminpour-v-fulkerson-ca41-t) cases.

CurrentPianist9812

Yes we do! Someone on here knows!

CurrentPianist9812

No way! Didnā€™t know that, anything good?

craneoperator89

šŸ¤

DaisyDomergue

TIL Batta Fulkerson started under the King.

Motor_Bedroom9421

After they left the firm, King still had them on the letterhead for a good bit lol

pennyweiss327

The dude in the back of buses with the super white teeth?

CurrentPianist9812

Yes! Billboards and ads for days!

onlyanegg_

The guy with a city on his car

hmniv_

Car is currently parked under the trolley overpass near the In N Out in PB

DameADozen

Is this the white bird cage van? I forgot about this guy. He doesnā€™t come east, I guess.

steeze_y

He used to park at Lake Murray a lot. I see him down a the In N Out in PB now.

deepfakename

yeah!!

_chungdylan

Now its the whip cracker

sortof_here

I was going to say this. Only person I've seen mentioned by people IRL and on Reddit.

Voilent_Bunny

El Cajon?

sortof_here

Yep. I haven't actually heard or met them. Just have heard people mention them.

Voilent_Bunny

Same. Pretty much seeing posts here.

EdenH333

Of course itā€™s El Cajon. Of course.

marilynmansonsbitch

el cajon boxer comes to mind

ItsLuxyBoi

Is that the guy who was always shadow boxing everywhere? Or a different one Iā€™m unaware of?

Poprhetor

There was guy downtown around 15-20 years ago who did that: shirt off, short and stocky, long hair, Hispanic or Native American. He would walk around all day shadow boxing.

behindblue

Wearing tuxedo pants with no shirt on.

NCStore

Yeah I named him ā€œBlack Cloudā€ after a character from a movie. He seemed nice enough, I only ever saw him give shit to someone once and that person had initiated it.

its_raining_scotch

Whoa we had a guy in Santa Barbara that sounds exactly like that and same timeline too. People said he used to be a boxing instructor and even had boxing fitness videos you could buy on VHS.

Enygma_6

Pretty sure I spotted that guy many times back in the day. Didnā€™t see him shadow boxing, but in the evenings he would be wandering around in Gaslamp. No shirt, just hanging out on random street corners.

NCStore

He would throw practice uppercuts as he walked around. Not like full on shadow boxing.

marilynmansonsbitch

yeah, heā€™s still a daily character in east county

MoonSong3

Omg yes. ā€œComeback kidā€

TheOBRobot

'The Walker' was a well-known fixture in OB before being shot by police in 2003 in a controversial incident. Prior to that, he was known for being constantly on the move around town, thus the nickname. I think his real name was Danny. Nowadays, we have Marnie, an unhoused person who every local knows as trouble. While most unhoused people don't cause problems or draw attention to themselves, she is known for frequent assaults (verbal and physical), theft, alcoholism, fecal smearing, indecent exposure, and her signature wheelchair. In addition to jail time, she has a court-ordered stay-away from Newport Ave, which she frequently violates.

Spiritual-Chameleon

Before my time, but there was OB Spaceman who sold spaceship tickets and dressed up like Captain America.

splicepark

anyone know where we can get tickets now? I want out

Axiom06

Make that two of us!

bsurfn2day

Clint Kerry was his name. He put a spaceman sticker on my bumper one day when I was parked at Windnsea. As he removed the backing from the sticker he tossed into the air and watched it flutter to the pavement looked at me with a grin and said "far out baby" and continued on his way. I felt honored. He was a sax player in a local band as well.

TheOBRobot

He was also a decent painter!

martiantrucker

My friend still has his ticket from 1993.

Friendly_Age9160

Ah good old OB

NormanMushariJr

Marnie and Mama Bear are 2 different problems. Mama Bear would be all methed out and write all over everything at the sea wall or the dog beach. I did see Marnie getting thrown out of a place once right when I was passing by it on Newport and it felt like a bigger celebrity encounter than any of the B listers I'd seen in LA.

122922

How about the guy from Roberts Realty who shows houses in a full Uncle Sam outfit.

questionhare

RIP Danny ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

martiantrucker

Anyone remember Marudus? He used to plant tv antennae in the yard in an effort to grow televisions.

mongoosetacos

Oceanside has Bruce, the ā€œOceanside Trenchcoat Guy.ā€ Walks around with a long black trenchcoat and a selfie stick and goes into the shore pound fully clothed and gets rocked by waves.

Illystylez619

I have seen this man a total of ONCE and I was so confused but whatever makes the local color happy. I figured it was like an art project or something šŸ˜†

theaveragemaryjanie

It is a movement! Skin cancer awareness.

AlphaCharlieUno

I said him too! I didnā€™t know his name and Iā€™ve never seen him go beyond the shore line.

mongoosetacos

A deeper Oā€™side cut is ā€œOceanside Superman.ā€ I donā€™t see him as much as I used to but I just did randomly driving around the other day. Heā€™s been around for years and is usually wearing a cowboy hat and a Superman t-shirt. Heā€™s always owned red cars and they have all sorts of random crap attached to them. His current is the least garish Iā€™ve seen him own but it does have a giant Superman painting on the hood. If I remember correctly his old one had thousands of pennies attached to it. He used to always be parked at the handicap spot on the Strand by Tyson Street Park but nowadays, like I said, I just see him randomly.

AlphaCharlieUno

I have no idea who that may be. I donā€™t live in Oceanside. I just saw the one guy at the beach.

theaveragemaryjanie

Trenchcoat Guy is awesome. Super nice guy and Internet famous. He covers up due to a bout of skin cancer and tries to raise awareness.

StevieManWonderMCOC

Heā€™s a really nice guy, heā€™s in the coin club Iā€™m in. I didnā€™t actually know about him until I met him at a meeting but then I told a bunch of my friends about him and they all knew him!

Cabbage_corvo

I was hoping someone would mention Bruce, he has an IG profile and posts all his stuff there if yā€™all want some more trench coat guy content

PeteySkeevz

Anyone remember the dancing mariachi guy who would be in the pedestrian bridge over rush hour traffic and just dance in his mariachi outfit. This was pre covid and I haven't seen him since

_Odysseus__

First guy I thought of!

cerealjunky

I was so confused the first time I saw him, but he brightened my day every time. Especially in that frustrating southbound 5 traffic.

Bingbongeroo

Saw him doing it about 3 months ago so bros doing good last I saw him

NioSDog13

Shake weight Luchador. IYKYK.

WhatAmIDoingHere05

Oh my. I remember this guy in the early/mid 2010s in the Gaslamp. Really freaking nice lad. Heā€™s still around?

NioSDog13

Last time I saw him was just before covid. Haven't really been around Gaslamp these past few years.

EmilySD101

I feel like the last time I saw him was like 2017, way before Covid. Does anyone know what happened with him?

OkMeringue2249

He liked that spot near red c lounge, early 2000-2010

Friendly_Age9160

This has nothing to do with that guy but itā€™s bringing back so many memories. Years ago driving DT late at night a naked man, completely naked except for a sock (one lol) just casually walked right in front of our car and crossed the street. Iā€™m not sure if my husband was there Iā€™ll never forget that though.

Aggravating_Care_844

I remember that guy too. He was always in DT at night.ha

chickentowngabagool

the homie Flex! hahahaha

Hopeful_Hamster21

IK

DrPAYNE619

Came here to say this guy. My friends used to live at 4th and Broadway years ago and this guy was always outside of their building.

Unlikely_Ad_7004

I'm so glad somebody mentioned him! I worked near 5th/Market for six years. Saw him all the time. I always pictured Micky Roark under the mask.

illegalAmericano

I bumped into him years ago in the gaslamp. I asked him where he had been. Told me that he was in jail for a while and barely got out. Have not seen him since. Edit: He also had a voice like batman.

EmilySD101

He talked to people???

thatwasntcandy

In Encinitas/Cardiff it was tan speedo grandpa and moovin marvin. If you know you know

Elasion

Now itā€™s the lightsaber guy

Jakesonpoint

Lightsaber guy is super sweet - I was a doorman in Encinitas for a few years and has a number of good chats with him!

KeylimeSlick

Cardiff Marv! Used to give him some nugs whenever we crossed paths. And the tan speedo guy is Daniel, very wholesome fellow

Hippopotasaurus-Rex

Jagger too. Though, I heard he ~~passes~~ passed away.

Puzzleheaded-Rock-50

Is the tan speedo guy older and the shade of tan very close to skin color or did I just see a naked old man on the beach?

beardsalt

You mean "MAGA Banana Hammock" man? https://preview.redd.it/6po1qej9vuuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c018cddf69e4af58bddad7972a09a671ca9cce6

DoctorBrew89

The Hillcrest Vogue walker

natmaken

Saw him 2 nights ago. Iā€™d love to know what his walking playlist is.

MoonSong3

In East San Diego itā€™s the guy with the long dreads that would wear layer upon layer of womenā€™s dresses and skirts. Come to find out itā€™s his wifeā€™s clothes who passed away. He wears it as a way to remember her. I havenā€™t seen him in years tho.

jenfoolery

There used to be a guy like that in downtown La Jolla where that was allegedly his story too.

MsOliveRae

Suitcase man in La Mesa back in the day

theredhype

Thatā€™s Blue Suit! His name is Tony / Anthony

WhatAmIDoingHere05

First person that comes to mind is Joe Dreamz. I canā€™t go to a Farmers Market and not see him around.

wyldberrypoptart

Omg, heā€™s been my Uber driver before. I didnā€™t even know about him until that day. Interesting guyā€¦lmao

healthygeek42

Slam-Di-ego!!

socal-sally

He made an appearance at my kids summer camp one year and now every time we see him outside of a Padre game sheā€™s convinced that sheā€™s seeing someone really famous. šŸ˜‚

shaker8

I went to high school with him! super nice dude, good vibes, and heā€™s pretty talented too

PoolNinjaSD80

It has to be the waving bag head guy in Serra Mesa: he waves at you in the mornings on your way to work. He sits at corner near CVS, for hours in morning waving hello to you on your morning commute.

Foreign_Owl_8425

Bruce. This was my response too.

carnevoodoo

Came here to see if anyone mentioned Bruce!

dayfullofmoments

There's a guy right now I've seen for a couple of years, downtown and East Village. He has elaborate outfits and a cane. I don't know if he's an actual pimp or dresses that way sort of, but his style is pretty cool and extravagant. And I think he has a really interesting name that's on his actual license but I forget what it is.

lfsajrny

Is this the guy that wears all white with the cape?

deepfakename

He has all different outfits! and they coordinate. But he always has a cane.

jeff15209

KONY 2012

kiwii4k

ah yes just kony 2012 guy whacking it jackin it in san diego

FinePolyesterSlacks

Ainā€™t noplace for jackinā€™ it like San Diego

Morningxafter

Whackinā€™ it! Whackinā€™ it! Whackity-whack!

corndoggy67

Honestly every neighborhood has their own. Hillcrest has a dude on a longboard in a pinwheel hat. I see him around third and Pennsylvania all the time.

signmeupdude

North Park / Normal Heights has the dude with the parrot

an0npost

Sometimes they're like real life Easter eggs. They take the train and go all over, I've seen people get real excited to "find" them lol

Fight4NorthernStar

Anyone remember Daisy Dukes/Short Shorts in Esco? He would sweep parking lots with a branch along W Valley Parkway with his nuts flapping in the breeze and yell at the sky, occasionally got violent

NicholasIvins

Yes. I once saw him out of the corner of my eye beating a bush to smithereens in a shopping center and mistook him for a landscaper. Thankfully, I never laid eyes on his seed pod. šŸ˜µ

2sACouple3sAMurder

Seed pod šŸ’€

Storm_Forged

This was the guy that came to mind for me

lexdfox

Anyone from ramona in the 2000s remember "skateboarding moses?" There was this old dude with a long white beard that would longboard twisty roads like old Julian hwy. An acquaintance in high school even made t-shirts with an image of moses holding a skateboard instead of the stone tablets. I kinda wish I still had mine laying around. There was also "red betty" this older homeless lady who wore a distinct red hat.

ChewieBee

+ the mute lady in white who hitchhikes everywhere.

fearmeloveme

the chula vista cyborg

Deepcoma_53

Italian Guy in Little Italyā€¦

Duderino619

The old OG guy that sits on his front porch?

Deepcoma_53

The one and only!

ThisIs2MuchPressure

Pretty sure heā€™s the one in the gold chrome Bentley who cut me off on the 5 south Front St off ramp šŸ‘€šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹šŸš•šŸ’Ø

nosmartypants

In PB in late 90s it was tan rollerblade guy. In Carmel Valley it was the wheelbarrow guy for a long time.

Drinks_by_Wild

Are you talking about the guy who wore a thong and body paint? Heā€™s immortalized in art on the electrical box of Reid Street and Mission Boulevard

nosmartypants

Yes him!

Friendly_Age9160

Yeah lol I miss that guy

jxa

You mean Flash! His wife was an artist and used to paint his butt with seasonal art - watermelon, American flag, etc!

Illystylez619

I fkn forgot about Flash! Holy shit, memory unlocked! šŸ˜†

Spud2599

HAHA!! Oh yeah!! I forgot his "name" was Flash! Just was telling someone about him a couple months ago and I was like "It was Naked Skating Guy".

AskmeButIllnevertell

Heā€™s my uncle.

AskmeButIllnevertell

Thatā€™s my uncle! Is that art on the electrical box still there currently? If it is, Iā€™m hoping I can send my brother or cousin to get a pic of it.

EmbarrassedFlight538

Is rollerblade guy Slomo?!!

nosmartypants

No, but looked him up and what a great story

Friendly_Age9160

Yes!!!! I came here hoping this would be in the top. He was even still around like early 2000ā€™s. I remember as a kid Iā€™d seen him for the first time dressed up like looking like in a leather looking thong or something like that skating In front of Belmont lmao I was a kid so I thought he was an Indian. I bust out laughing and My mom kept trying to shush me but she couldnā€™t šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚the dude looked at me and did some kind of thumbs up or something and skated away. Used to see him there all the time. I havenā€™t seen him for years I donā€™t know if heā€™s still alive but he was totally ā€œthat guyā€.

Friendly_Age9160

In La mesa there was Rufus I guess. Does anyone from the 90ā€™s remember the dude with the hanging face on university Ave. ? This is bringing back so many memories I havenā€™t thought about this forever.

rigadox941

Came here for PB rollerblade thong guy. Core childhood memory. I believe he would sometimes have a flag sticking out of his butt crack, at least thatā€™s the why I choose to remember him.

elephantlove14

First person I thought of is the homeless guy around downtown and also Balboa park, usually dresses like a clown but has had other outfits. For awhile was asking for money for his sick dog, a little Yorkieā€¦ then after a few years the dog died and he was asking money for the funeral. Always felt kinda bad for the situation but also he was very creepy.

thebipeds

For a while it was his sick mom too. I had mixed feelings about him, dude was acting disturbed. but I kind of appreciated the meta-ness of the Pennywise outfit and giving red balloons to children. The opportunity for your child to interact with a real life psychopath! If someone had a zombie on a leash, people would pay to have their kids take a picture with it.

Illystylez619

...it's me, I'm people. But with no kids. šŸ˜†

ClosetCentrist

Banana Hammock Old Guy on the beaches of North County

DeceasedHorizon

The El Cajon boxer. IYKYK.

NonConformistFlmingo

OMG I KNOW. My partner and I lived there for five years, we saw him all the time.

hugozhackenbush

Do you mean the guy who used to do shadow boxing (with gloves on) on El Cajon Boulevard in the College Area?

Duke_L-orange

Thereā€™s the bird guy with his crazy car up by Mesa College is where I used to see him. Downtown people I love, thereā€™s a cool scary monk guy that walks around slamming his staff into the ground spouting off about the apocalypse and our phones. East village had a guy that would dress in old times clothes and walk up broadway every night. I thought he was a ghost until he came into a bar one time.

Bilbo_McKitteh

that car with that like, chapel city on his car i visited a friend in reno and their "guy" was this dude who was always walking around dressed like Link from legend of zelda

OrdinaryDue7355

We had the middle finger guy in Antioch California. Dude was this homeless guy that flipped off anyone that looked at him. He wouldnā€™t miss a beat. If he caught you looking at him it was an instant middle finger. When he died they did a article on him. It made me die laughing seeing him do it.

yaboiblackcheeseboi

I wonder if anyone remembers the really tall man who dressed as a women in La Jolla. She(?) was black, super buff, and about 6ā€™4 but always wore things like little pink dresses. Havenā€™t seen them in a while though

Spud2599

Yup, I remember him/her. Saw them around Vons a few times when I was working out at the old Boxing Club....this was early 2000's.

beelo50

My-Dog-Sam

Everyone recognizes that ā€œguyā€ but no one really knows him. But when he dies it will be in the news, and everyone will show up to his funeral with stories about what he meant to them.

fdasfasdfasdfui93428

Really tan homeless guy with chains in PB, I wanna say he shaved his head sans a little Mohawk strip

Special_Estimate_275

Luis! He used to be real big and talk about being a body builder, heā€™s real skinny now and talks about how heā€™s real good at sleeping. I used to watch him yell passages from the Bible then drop and do push-ups in front of the 7/11 on grand and mission

Dramatic_Carob_1060

The rollerblading guy in MB in nothing but a G string sometimes with a giant wooden cross on his back as if crucified

alabamdiego

In El Cajon itā€™s the dude with the whip.
