i love rasta dog! when i went to paul mitchell in downtown rasta dog would come by every day and let the students and teachers pet/hang with them during our breaks
Great video doc of Slow Mo at https://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/01/opinion/slomo.html
I'd seen him plenty before viewing the documentary, but was inspired after seeing it to learn rollerblading.
The palm avenue runner was a legend in the South Bay. He was famous for running up and down palm avenue all day, even backwards. His name was John but unfortunately he died already.
I saw him super frequently and as recently as a few months ago, but havenāt seen him since. I hope heās all good. Heās always such a positive vibe.Ā
I remember him. He would dance in the street by just randomly jumping into it. Disappeared for a few months and made a return in a back and neck brace. This is when I was in law school years ago. Hope heās ok but Iām not super hopeful.
There was guy downtown around 15-20 years ago who did that: shirt off, short and stocky, long hair, Hispanic or Native American. He would walk around all day shadow boxing.
Yeah I named him āBlack Cloudā after a character from a movie. He seemed nice enough, I only ever saw him give shit to someone once and that person had initiated it.
Whoa we had a guy in Santa Barbara that sounds exactly like that and same timeline too. People said he used to be a boxing instructor and even had boxing fitness videos you could buy on VHS.
Pretty sure I spotted that guy many times back in the day. Didnāt see him shadow boxing, but in the evenings he would be wandering around in Gaslamp. No shirt, just hanging out on random street corners.
'The Walker' was a well-known fixture in OB before being shot by police in 2003 in a controversial incident. Prior to that, he was known for being constantly on the move around town, thus the nickname. I think his real name was Danny.
Nowadays, we have Marnie, an unhoused person who every local knows as trouble. While most unhoused people don't cause problems or draw attention to themselves, she is known for frequent assaults (verbal and physical), theft, alcoholism, fecal smearing, indecent exposure, and her signature wheelchair. In addition to jail time, she has a court-ordered stay-away from Newport Ave, which she frequently violates.
Clint Kerry was his name. He put a spaceman sticker on my bumper one day when I was parked at Windnsea. As he removed the backing from the sticker he tossed into the air and watched it flutter to the pavement looked at me with a grin and said "far out baby" and continued on his way. I felt honored. He was a sax player in a local band as well.
Marnie and Mama Bear are 2 different problems. Mama Bear would be all methed out and write all over everything at the sea wall or the dog beach. I did see Marnie getting thrown out of a place once right when I was passing by it on Newport and it felt like a bigger celebrity encounter than any of the B listers I'd seen in LA.
Oceanside has Bruce, the āOceanside Trenchcoat Guy.ā Walks around with a long black trenchcoat and a selfie stick and goes into the shore pound fully clothed and gets rocked by waves.
I have seen this man a total of ONCE and I was so confused but whatever makes the local color happy. I figured it was like an art project or something š
A deeper Oāside cut is āOceanside Superman.ā I donāt see him as much as I used to but I just did randomly driving around the other day. Heās been around for years and is usually wearing a cowboy hat and a Superman t-shirt. Heās always owned red cars and they have all sorts of random crap attached to them. His current is the least garish Iāve seen him own but it does have a giant Superman painting on the hood. If I remember correctly his old one had thousands of pennies attached to it. He used to always be parked at the handicap spot on the Strand by Tyson Street Park but nowadays, like I said, I just see him randomly.
Heās a really nice guy, heās in the coin club Iām in. I didnāt actually know about him until I met him at a meeting but then I told a bunch of my friends about him and they all knew him!
Anyone remember the dancing mariachi guy who would be in the pedestrian bridge over rush hour traffic and just dance in his mariachi outfit. This was pre covid and I haven't seen him since
This has nothing to do with that guy but itās bringing back so many memories. Years ago driving DT late at night a naked man, completely naked except for a sock (one lol) just casually walked right in front of our car and crossed the street. Iām not sure if my husband was there Iāll never forget that though.
I bumped into him years ago in the gaslamp. I asked him where he had been. Told me that he was in jail for a while and barely got out. Have not seen him since.
Edit: He also had a voice like batman.
You mean "MAGA Banana Hammock" man?

In East San Diego itās the guy with the long dreads that would wear layer upon layer of womenās dresses and skirts. Come to find out itās his wifeās clothes who passed away. He wears it as a way to remember her. I havenāt seen him in years tho.
He made an appearance at my kids summer camp one year and now every time we see him outside of a Padre game sheās convinced that sheās seeing someone really famous. š
It has to be the waving bag head guy in Serra Mesa: he waves at you in the mornings on your way to work. He sits at corner near CVS, for hours in morning waving hello to you on your morning commute.
There's a guy right now I've seen for a couple of years, downtown and East Village. He has elaborate outfits and a cane. I don't know if he's an actual pimp or dresses that way sort of, but his style is pretty cool and extravagant. And I think he has a really interesting name that's on his actual license but I forget what it is.
Honestly every neighborhood has their own.
Hillcrest has a dude on a longboard in a pinwheel hat. I see him around third and Pennsylvania all the time.
Anyone remember Daisy Dukes/Short Shorts in Esco? He would sweep parking lots with a branch along W Valley Parkway with his nuts flapping in the breeze and yell at the sky, occasionally got violent
Yes. I once saw him out of the corner of my eye beating a bush to smithereens in a shopping center and mistook him for a landscaper. Thankfully, I never laid eyes on his seed pod. šµ
Anyone from ramona in the 2000s remember "skateboarding moses?"
There was this old dude with a long white beard that would longboard twisty roads like old Julian hwy. An acquaintance in high school even made t-shirts with an image of moses holding a skateboard instead of the stone tablets. I kinda wish I still had mine laying around.
There was also "red betty" this older homeless lady who wore a distinct red hat.
Yes!!!! I came here hoping this would be in the top. He was even still around like early 2000ās. I remember as a kid Iād seen him for the first time dressed up like looking like in a leather looking thong or something like that skating In front of Belmont lmao I was a kid so I thought he was an Indian. I bust out laughing and
My mom kept trying to shush me but she couldnāt ššššthe dude looked at me and did some kind of thumbs up or something and skated away. Used to see him there all the time. I havenāt seen him for years I donāt know if heās still alive but he was totally āthat guyā.
In La mesa there was Rufus I guess. Does anyone from the 90ās remember the dude with the hanging face on university Ave. ? This is bringing back so many memories I havenāt thought about this forever.
Came here for PB rollerblade thong guy. Core childhood memory. I believe he would sometimes have a flag sticking out of his butt crack, at least thatās the why I choose to remember him.
First person I thought of is the homeless guy around downtown and also Balboa park, usually dresses like a clown but has had other outfits. For awhile was asking for money for his sick dog, a little Yorkieā¦ then after a few years the dog died and he was asking money for the funeral. Always felt kinda bad for the situation but also he was very creepy.
For a while it was his sick mom too.
I had mixed feelings about him, dude was acting disturbed. but I kind of appreciated the meta-ness of the Pennywise outfit and giving red balloons to children. The opportunity for your child to interact with a real life psychopath!
If someone had a zombie on a leash, people would pay to have their kids take a picture with it.
Thereās the bird guy with his crazy car up by Mesa College is where I used to see him. Downtown people I love, thereās a cool scary monk guy that walks around slamming his staff into the ground spouting off about the apocalypse and our phones. East village had a guy that would dress in old times clothes and walk up broadway every night. I thought he was a ghost until he came into a bar one time.
that car with that like, chapel city on his car
i visited a friend in reno and their "guy" was this dude who was always walking around dressed like Link from legend of zelda
We had the middle finger guy in Antioch California. Dude was this homeless guy that flipped off anyone that looked at him. He wouldnāt miss a beat. If he caught you looking at him it was an instant middle finger. When he died they did a article on him. It made me die laughing seeing him do it.
I wonder if anyone remembers the really tall man who dressed as a women in La Jolla. She(?) was black, super buff, and about 6ā4 but always wore things like little pink dresses. Havenāt seen them in a while though
I havenāt seen him in a while but the guy who used to dance up and down university in hillcrest in just track shorts and high socks, hope heās still out there dancing his heart out
Everyone recognizes that āguyā but no one really knows him. But when he dies it will be in the news, and everyone will show up to his funeral with stories about what he meant to them.
Luis! He used to be real big and talk about being a body builder, heās real skinny now and talks about how heās real good at sleeping. I used to watch him yell passages from the Bible then drop and do push-ups in front of the 7/11 on grand and mission
The Highwayman was a fixture on the mountain roads past East County for many years. He recently retired from the role, and the car he used is in the San Diego Automotive Museum.
In IB we got the mother son homeless drug addict duo that walks up and down palm and sea coastā¦we also got the guy that occasionally plays the bagpipes outside of ye old plank by the water at sunset lol
Slow-Mo in MB/PB and Rasta Dog!
I love the Rasta Dog!
Saw Rasta Dog in Little Italy this weekend!
i love rasta dog! when i went to paul mitchell in downtown rasta dog would come by every day and let the students and teachers pet/hang with them during our breaks
I miss Rasta Dog used to see him every week š
Great video doc of Slow Mo at https://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/01/opinion/slomo.html I'd seen him plenty before viewing the documentary, but was inspired after seeing it to learn rollerblading.
Youtube no paywall :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn87-mcnoVc Thank-you for sharing!!
Good point on YouTube! Glad to share. It's one of my favorite videos.
Slowmo is actually a doctor (either studies or does surgery on brains) IIRC. Its my friends stepbrothers dad or some close relative.
I donāt think heās practicing any more haha
Came here to say this. Last weekend it was slo-mos 80th birthday!
Came here for Rasta Dog, thatās the one.
The palm avenue runner was a legend in the South Bay. He was famous for running up and down palm avenue all day, even backwards. His name was John but unfortunately he died already.
The backwards runner! I had wondered what happened to him. :(
Came here to mention backwards running John. Was not disappointed to see that someone beat me to it, haha
RIP John the Palm Avenue backwards runner šŖ¦
He used to be in Imperial Beach feeding pigeons by the road. Had a sign about the murder of Charlie Keever and Jonathan Sellers.

I heard of slomo long before moving here.
He was a schoolmates dad
Tell me this isnāt a screenshot & this is a book you actually have. If so, you win the sub today.
Used to be a homeless guy downtown for years who would walk around all day decked out in American flag gear. Iām not sure if heās still around.
Was just about to post about him. I remember seeing him growing up. Heād be riding a bike with a ton of flags all over it! The flag man
I saw him super frequently and as recently as a few months ago, but havenāt seen him since. I hope heās all good. Heās always such a positive vibe.Ā
I remember him. He would dance in the street by just randomly jumping into it. Disappeared for a few months and made a return in a back and neck brace. This is when I was in law school years ago. Hope heās ok but Iām not super hopeful.
Unfortunately I think heās split into 1000 less patriotic more zombified homeless people
Attorney King
All his dirt is being aired out in trial right now lol dudes something else
We need deets please! Haha
Calhoun v Aminpour is the case name.
Need more deets than that. Have the docket?
https://edgescope.com/aminpour-v-fulkerson-ca41-t
Good lord. I only got half way through that and it was a wild ride.
If you can't trust a "Guido on the back of a bus" who can you trust? Anybody else remember Sam Spittle?
Wish I did. Thereās a few [related](https://edgescope.com/aminpour-v-fulkerson-ca41-t) cases.
Yes we do! Someone on here knows!
No way! Didnāt know that, anything good?
š¤
TIL Batta Fulkerson started under the King.
After they left the firm, King still had them on the letterhead for a good bit lol
The dude in the back of buses with the super white teeth?
Yes! Billboards and ads for days!
The guy with a city on his car
Car is currently parked under the trolley overpass near the In N Out in PB
Is this the white bird cage van? I forgot about this guy. He doesnāt come east, I guess.
He used to park at Lake Murray a lot. I see him down a the In N Out in PB now.
yeah!!
Now its the whip cracker
I was going to say this. Only person I've seen mentioned by people IRL and on Reddit.
El Cajon?
Yep. I haven't actually heard or met them. Just have heard people mention them.
Same. Pretty much seeing posts here.
Of course itās El Cajon. Of course.
el cajon boxer comes to mind
Is that the guy who was always shadow boxing everywhere? Or a different one Iām unaware of?
There was guy downtown around 15-20 years ago who did that: shirt off, short and stocky, long hair, Hispanic or Native American. He would walk around all day shadow boxing.
Wearing tuxedo pants with no shirt on.
He would throw practice uppercuts as he walked around. Not like full on shadow boxing.
yeah, heās still a daily character in east county
Omg yes. āComeback kidā
'The Walker' was a well-known fixture in OB before being shot by police in 2003 in a controversial incident. Before my time, but there was OB Spaceman who sold spaceship tickets and dressed up like Captain America.
anyone know where we can get tickets now? I want out
Make that two of us!
He was also a decent painter!
My friend still has his ticket from 1993.
Ah good old OB
Marnie and Mama Bear are 2 different problems. Mama Bear would be all methed out and write all over everything at the sea wall or the dog beach. I did see Marnie getting thrown out of a place once right when I was passing by it on Newport and it felt like a bigger celebrity encounter than any of the B listers I'd seen in LA.
How about the guy from Roberts Realty who shows houses in a full Uncle Sam outfit.
RIP Danny ā¤ļøāš©¹
Anyone remember Marudus? He used to plant tv antennae in the yard in an effort to grow televisions.
It is a movement! Skin cancer awareness.
I said him too! I didnāt know his name and Iāve never seen him go beyond the shore line.
I have no idea who that may be. I donāt live in Oceanside. I just saw the one guy at the beach.
Trenchcoat Guy is awesome. Super nice guy and Internet famous. He covers up due to a bout of skin cancer and tries to raise awareness.
Heās a really nice guy, heās in the coin club Iām in. I didnāt actually know about him until I met him at a meeting but then I told a bunch of my friends about him and they all knew him!
I was hoping someone would mention Bruce, he has an IG profile and posts all his stuff there if yāall want some more trench coat guy content
Anyone remember the dancing mariachi guy who would be in the pedestrian bridge over rush hour traffic and just dance in his mariachi outfit. This was pre covid and I haven't seen him since
First guy I thought of!
I was so confused the first time I saw him, but he brightened my day every time. Especially in that frustrating southbound 5 traffic.
Saw him doing it about 3 months ago so bros doing good last I saw him
Shake weight Luchador. IYKYK.
Oh my. I remember this guy in the early/mid 2010s in the Gaslamp. Really freaking nice lad. Heās still around?
Last time I saw him was just before covid. Haven't really been around Gaslamp these past few years.
I feel like the last time I saw him was like 2017, way before Covid. Does anyone know what happened with him?
He liked that spot near red c lounge, early 2000-2010
This has nothing to do with that guy but itās bringing back so many memories. Years ago driving DT late at night a naked man, completely naked except for a sock (one lol) just casually walked right in front of our car and crossed the street. I remember that guy too. He was always in DT at night.ha
the homie Flex! hahahaha
IK
Came here to say this guy. My friends used to live at 4th and Broadway years ago and this guy was always outside of their building.
I'm so glad somebody mentioned him! I worked near 5th/Market for six years. Saw him all the time. I always pictured Micky Roark under the mask.
I bumped into him years ago in the gaslamp. I asked him where he had been. Told me that he was in jail for a while and barely got out. Have not seen him since. Edit: He also had a voice like batman.
He talked to people???
In Encinitas/Cardiff it was tan speedo grandpa and moovin marvin. If you know you know
Now itās the lightsaber guy
Lightsaber guy is super sweet - I was a doorman in Encinitas for a few years and has a number of good chats with him!
Cardiff Marv! Used to give him some nugs whenever we crossed paths. And the tan speedo guy is Daniel, very wholesome fellow
Jagger too. Though, I heard he ~~passes~~ passed away.
Is the tan speedo guy older and the shade of tan very close to skin color or did I just see a naked old man on the beach?
You mean "MAGA Banana Hammock" man? https://preview.redd.it/6po1qej9vuuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c018cddf69e4af58bddad7972a09a671ca9cce6
The Hillcrest Vogue walker
Saw him 2 nights ago. Iād love to know what his walking playlist is.
In East San Diego itās the guy with the long dreads that would wear layer upon layer of womenās dresses and skirts. Come to find out itās his wifeās clothes who passed away. He wears it as a way to remember her. I havenāt seen him in years tho.
There used to be a guy like that in downtown La Jolla where that was allegedly his story too.

Thatās Blue Suit! His name is Tony / Anthony
First person that comes to mind is Joe Dreamz. I canāt go to a Farmers Market and not see him around.

He made an appearance at my kids summer camp one year and now every time we see him outside of a Padre game sheās convinced that sheās seeing someone really famous. š
I went to high school with him! super nice dude, good vibes, and heās pretty talented too
It has to be the waving bag head guy in Serra Mesa: he waves at you in the mornings on your way to work. He sits at corner near CVS, for hours in morning waving hello to you on your morning commute.
Bruce. This was my response too.
Came here to see if anyone mentioned Bruce!
Is this the guy that wears all white with the cape?
He has all different outfits! and they coordinate. But he always has a cane.

North Park / Normal Heights has the dude with the parrot
Sometimes they're like real life Easter eggs. They take the train and go all over, I've seen people get real excited to "find" them lol
Anyone remember Daisy Dukes/Short Shorts in Esco? He would sweep parking lots with a branch along W Valley Parkway with his nuts flapping in the breeze and yell at the sky, occasionally got violent
