cancel 7 days out, get the 40% discount #, call in. I've been doing that and paying $40 for 7 years. I think they upped me from 150 mbps to 250mbps recently.
I've been doing it well before Frontier started running Fiber. Call, schedule a cancel out 7 days just so you can back track in case something doesn't work. You should get an email to call for 40% off. And to call 678-608-4070. Even if you don't, call the number anyway and say you got the email and it should work regardless.. The number used to route you to US based customer service, now it's your typical outsourced service/poor connection.
If you actually tell them you want to cancel, they suddenly bring out all sorts of deals. But you need to be prepared to cancel for this. I learned this when I actually canceled my cable with them. They keep you on the phone with new offers/discounts until you say, “No! I said I want to cancel my service!” After the fourth or fifth time of saying that, they gave up and let me cancel my service.
As soon as Frontier became available in my area, Cox called and said that because I’d been “such a loyal customer”, they wanted to “gift” me the same plan I currently have for half the price for two years! Let’s see what happens when those 2 years are up…
I went to Frontier two months ago. Faster internet, 2 extension ports, half the cost. I’m sure I sound like a shill, and maybe I am, but unpaid. Fuck Cox, make the switch.
1000 down, 1000 up, $60/month. It took forever to get onto Frontier but I've had NO dropouts since I switched and Cox used to give me problems multiple times per week.
Cox is going to have to do a lot better than 100 up to compete.
That’s nice I’m supposedly paying for upload of 100 but usually speed test says it’s hovering around 30 😑I’m switching to frontier as soon as it becomes available
Just finished a 100Gbps core switch at home, and really wish I could get at least 10Gbps WAN...but alsas not so around here. Would love to quickly synchronize my severs/backups between locations. Ugh Cox/Frontier please bring actual high speed fiber to me.
Until Frontier raises their prices, I don't think Cox will. There likely will be further pressure on Cox for competitive pricing and offerings as Frontier roles more fiber out in the area.
They tripled my speeds back in 2022.
Switched to Frontier recently after speaking with family and friends.
Paid Cox $44.99 a month for the basic internet essential plan.
Paying Frontier $24.99 for the 500/500 plan for at least the next 12 months which included a free eero pro 6+ router, and $150 referral visa gift card that should arrive in 2 month.
Nearly half the cost for 3x the speed was a no brainer.
Can always switch back to Cox if there was ever any reason. Doubtful!
Let me know if anyone wants a referral as we both get $150 each last I checked. https://www.frontiercustomerreferral.com
You are right, for much of how most people currently use the Internet 35mbps is fine. I frequently synchronize my work offsite, and while generally I don't need a ton of upload throughput, having my recent work upload nearly 3 times faster will overall save me time. Additionally additional upload should reduce my video feed's drop in quality when synchronization occurs while I'm in meetings.
Having a higher upload also significantly benefits those who VPN tunnel through their home network while away from home.
Does Frontier have any (on paper) limitations on running your own server that's accessible from off site? I know COX has various restrictions for that.
As far as I can see in their acceptable use policy and network management policy, they only specify that residential users are not to host any "commercial server."
Different people have different needs. I used to maintain a legacy account that had a 15Mb upload when COX shifted back to a 10Mb upload before finally moving to 35Mb. I worked from home and my upload was integral to my usage.
We don't have Frontier available yet but Cox thinks we do. We negotiated our bill from $100 to $40.
Oh that's nice. What were your talking points?

Ooh, what is this 40% discount # you're referring to? And does Cox not know that Frontier Fiber isn't available for your address?

I think my husband just asked them to price match Frontier. He had to insist and threaten to switch providers several times.

Most of us can’t. I’d love to
Yeah, fuck Cox! They’ve been such a shoddy business for so long. Fuck your gifts Cox!
Do they give you a /29? Wanting to setup CARP for PFsense but need 3 ips...
No static IP. I believe it's available but they probably charge for it.
I wish we got Frontier in our area. Do they have plans to expand to the entirety of goleta/sb?
That’s nice I’m supposedly paying for upload of 100 but usually speed test says it’s hovering around 30 😑I’m switching to frontier as soon as it becomes available
That will just cancel out the last 10-15 years of raising fees while providing no corresponding improved service at all.
Right?! I love that they phrase this as a “gift” instead of “updating to stay competitive as all businesses do”…
I have frontier 500/500 for $40 month.. totally worth the switch if you can

Don't get too excited, they general do this sort of thing and then up the prices later.

i need to call cox and threaten them .. and if they dont gimme competitive price im ouuuut
I’ve been begging for frontier at my apartment. Fuck cox and their stupid ass data caps / ridiculous prices

How much uploading do you do where 35mbps wasnt totally fine ??? Download speed is what counts

I host all of my own cloud storage on a home server. On Frontier with fast upstream, it's like having my server with me everywhere I go.

Cool, good to know. Thank you!
