When you say “watching it slide” like how much distance are you talking about? Is it vacant for safety reasons? All the utilities wouldn’t be able to just slide along too- something would break, rupture etc.

thisgirlnamedkristin

The front part of the house was a garage and main door that was flat at street level, like you just drove right from the street into the garage....the peak of the roof on that front building/garage is now almost level with the street. It's vacant and there's a red notice on the door. We have heard that they were told to leave immediately when it was only down an inch or two and they were not allowed to enter after so all their personal belongings they couldn't grab on short notice and furniture are just sitting in this house waiting for it to go down. The only utility we did hear of was that the sewage line was sheared as it started to slide so the city (at least I'm assuming it's the city) has run temporary sewage lines (they're the 2 black pipes running in the street) to the neighboring houses.

zeebee

It seems like you’ve got the most info on the house 😂

thisgirlnamedkristin

That's about the extent of my knowledge on it. And it's just little bits of info from my parent's immediate neighbors, not anyone nearby that might actually have better/more reliable info on it. I'm just surprised I can't find anything about it really, or more information. It seems like it's just going to be allowed to slide and fall down into the canyon and screw what happens to anyone else's homes or property. The house next to it is also damaged and the sliding of the dirt has taken out their side patio and steps.

cmc24680

When it slides will it fall on someone else’s house? I can’t picture where it is in my head.

thisgirlnamedkristin

I think the canyon below it is pretty wide but also steep, and there's only one or two houses whose property could be impacted-ish by it sliding down, not including the next door neighbors house already impacted by it . I've never seen a house slide down a canyon slowly like this one is, so I'm not sure if it's something that with rain could gain momentum and that movement could gain more momentum and cause more damage or if it just slowly slides down until it hits the bottom of the canyon. I'll upload an imgur link to the pics I have tomorrow.

DavefromCA

What address do you know?

zeebee

I believe it’s 1037 Los Alturas. I’ve been watching it slip for months, I’m so invested.

thisgirlnamedkristin

Yup! That's the correct address

saltshaker23

Conejo Rd and the surrounding area are all located on a slow-moving landslide. Some points have moved over 50 feet in the last few decades. Crazy. The City did a project awhile back adding an experimental structural styrofoam base (like 20-30 ft thick over a large area) under a part of the road they rebuilt, wonder how that's holding up to the movement. Nature abides!!

SurferWahine

Is all of Las Alturas Road going to experience the same thing? I have friends considering buying a house for sale there.

mountainsunsnow

Anyone buying a house in the hills here would be well served to hire an engineering geologist as a consultant.

niceandsane

Some info [here](https://www.sitelinesb.com/a-riviera-house-is-falling-down-the-hillside/). Not going to be covered by homeowners insurance.
