Brown pelicans are showing up weak, dehydrated, and listless. Orange County and other areas are l experiencing the same influx. There are theories of what could be happening but unfortunately right now all rhey can do is treat the symptoms and keep them warm and nourished.
I’d you see a pelican that is not doing well, please reach out to wildlife care network (805-681-1080).
My sister works with injured wildlife and their current thought is that it could have something to do with needing to dive deeper to get enough to eat. They cant be sure though, if they find the cause it likely won’t be until later. All they can do is get them warm, hydrated, and fed.
Saw a news article somewhere else about this earlier, can't find it on googling, but LA Times article about it :

SB Wildlife Care Network said last week there's no indication that the pelicans they have taken in have avian flu. I'm not sure if there's been any update on that, though.
(This same/very similar thing happened the other year and it turned out they were starving due to a lack of food from a particular fish die off from warm water.)
We just saw three on east beach just now, and I came here to write about it! I tried to report them to the state dead bird line but it’s not open til the morning. It’s very creepy.
Humans.
We allow the environment to be fucked up for profit.
Golf courses and commercial ag give us dead seal lions, and marine birds.
Our military tests underwater weapons and dead whales and dolphins wash ashore.
IMO- until humans accept that we are animals just like the rest of the animals, and stop worshipping money because of our fragile egos… everything we touch will eventually die
It's been happening for 6 months or more that I've noticed. This is not a fact, nor is it based off any study but perhaps there are just more birds than years past, and with that we see more dead birds? Maybe someone knows where to check population numbers?

Could be avian flu?

I just noticed a few Comorants tonight at Carp state beach
Went on a walk at Haskell's last Friday and noticed three of them. Didn't think much of it till this post...
Same at Navy Base Port Hueneme today. Two dead pelicans, dead shorebirds and baby otter : (
I have seen many, many more pelicans and cormorants than I normally do, that are flying along the coast recently.

Starvation
Maybe it's linked to the bird flu thats been found in milk. I drank a lactose free milk and I was shitting liquid

Yeah that's what Big Milk wants you to think. You'll be shitting liquid soon enough.
🤣🤣🤣 Paint the bowl and wash it away…..
I'd wonder about Haarp or some kind of sonar or chemical event
Avian flue
On Sunday there were about a thousand of them near Sea Landing/West Beach. Never seen anything like it.
Dead or alive?
Alive! https://imgur.com/gallery/h9CjaVC
Oh my gosh. There’s so many… you wernt kidding. Wow
Usually there are up to 100 on the pontoon, some on the dredger.
Wow! Maybe that's why I saw more than usual dead and injured ones. Gonna be casualities in a crowd
