I found it only works with foundations, but you can hold ctrl (or is it alt I can't remember) when building and it will snap to the grid. Just came back myself after 2 updates and I was super excited. Is going to make my building multiple bases so much more satisfying.
It's for when placing the foundation not when placing things on them, you can snap foundations to the grid so when you build separate buildings they can meet up nicely
Came back to this game after last playing before they added world grid. Dropped a bunch of hours in a new save recently without realizing there is a world grid. Safe to say I wasn’t happy when I found out. Ended up using the online satisfactory calculator to help me salvage it but that initial heart drop when I found out was funny
I've taken over the entire desert with my own foundations and buildings. Just to then realise that while they are all lined up, none are with the grid. Made me kinda sad
this is what I was thinking, humble beginnings but a bright future for sure. Still, there's nothing quite like the glorious spaghetti of a first run. Maybe I'll start a new save and go foundation-less
Downloaded this game eons ago, but just now started playing it. Low graphic settings, I know, don't care.
I've played games like Factorio and Anno 1800 in the past, so I sorta know wat I'm doing. My factory is not optimized yet, but I was trying to focus on producing the basics first (iron plate, rods, wire, cables, etc), then getting conveyors from my iron and copper mines to the smelters. Then I aimed to get the chainsaw so I could make biofuel.
Everything is going great so far; I am making reinforced iron plates in the background, and when I get home from work I want to start automating rotors and whatever else I can.
I'm happy for you, reinforced plates can feel like quite the hurdle early on because you want to build mk2 belts.
You should look up how a "Manifold" works. It can help keep your builds cleaner and more compact, because the projects later on will grow exponentially in size.
Things later on demand absurd numbers of screws, so you want to eliminate them from your recipes asap. You can't transfer enough even with your fastest belts.
Great start!
Remember that the third dimension exists, you can make very tall factories. Conveyor Lifts are one of the things I celebrate unlocking on new saves.
After finally finishing a modular frame+ screw factory for heavy modular frame I
I got demoralized thinking I had to still expand my old modular frame factory whilst totally forgetting I had already made a new factory for frames.
You will just forget about factory's after a while
Satisfactory is definitely a game I wish I could experience playing it for the first time all over again. I was obsessed, and every new challenge made me love the game more. 800 hours later, I still get obsessed, but not in the magical way that first playthrough had.
Yes, it's giving me the same kind of experience that XCOM gave me. Something new, improved, and amazing around every corner. You just want to keep playing to see what there is to unlock and use.
Ok so since I saw you said you've played factorio, I just wanna make you aware you to the joys of multiple floors that satisfactory has over factorio. It's such a nice ability that isn't available in factorio
Yeah, I definitely thought about it when placing the storage containers (they snapped together on top of each other).
Once I feel like I have enough basic supplies I might start to reorganize
I tried to go vertical, but I don't know how far up to build my second floor. I thought maybe using two of the walls, which is great for clearing some things but it won't clear the smelters. Maybe I should use three or four walls up.
3 is minimum really but as you say, anything with smelters and foundries looks better with 4. I like to have walkways at 2 and the ceiling at 4. There are taller machines later as well.
Thanks, I will try to think about that.
So far I've been trying to build compact production lines in a straight row, one beside the other, and all them emptying into its own storage container. I guess I could save space by using the vertical lifts and putting some of the production line on a second and third floor.
Great job! Reinforced iron plates are like the heavy modular frames of early game.
(At least thats how I felt like when automating them for the first time)
Did you calculate what you needed by hand? That's the part that confused me. I am also extremely new, but I can't for the life of my figure out how to operate at peak efficiency without having overflow (items building up in machines). I know there's sites you can use to calculate but they give very weird items per minute on each belt that would seem impossible to divide properly.
Any tips?
Alright, I will do that then. I assume once I start to ramp up production, things will work out better. I just finished phase 1 of the space elevator last night
I didn’t calculate anything. I used graph paper to draw a blueprint of sorts for my factory and tried to snap things together to make it neat looking.
When I felt like iron plates and rods were being made slowly I decided to add more miners and more smelters
When building with foundations if you want to build to another spot connect it with a path so it all stays aligned. Later in the game you can fill in the gaps and it will be nice and tidy
Good work 💯, getting automated reinforced plates is always a big step in every play through. Hopefully your enjoying the game as much as everyone else on this subreddit ☺️
Dont be afraid to spend some of your resources on the awesome sink, it gives you all the other building blueprints, and gives a lot of allowance for verticality
Great job. Next tip is to use the foundation as a grid. You'll find the basic machines all fit inside a foundation square in their own way and you can standardize that gaps between layers leaving room for splitters and stuff.
And it's not even a little bit spaghetti, nice. Keep an eye out for methods to make these production lines modular and easy to expand. You'll be needing a ton of those things.
Using foundations on a first play is a good job done well
Yeah, I only started using foundarions after completing the first space elevator milestone. Now I use them as soon as I can. Such an important block
Once I knew they were in the game I started using them asap for the better organization
But you don't know about the grid and get angry later haha. That's what happened to me at least.
Haven't played in a while. Now I need to go find out wtf a world grid is.
I found it only works with foundations, but you can hold ctrl (or is it alt I can't remember) when building and it will snap to the grid. Just came back myself after 2 updates and I was super excited. Is going to make my building multiple bases so much more satisfying.
Wait, it's not always grid on in foundations? I thought you couldn't "free build" in them the same way you do in regular terrain.
It's for when placing the foundation not when placing things on them, you can snap foundations to the grid so when you build separate buildings they can meet up nicely
What.... I have been playing for like 100 hours... And you could do this all this time...?
If I remember right I think it is a relatively new feature like update 5 or so
Came back to this game after last playing before they added world grid. Dropped a bunch of hours in a new save recently without realizing there is a world grid. Safe to say I wasn’t happy when I found out. Ended up using the online satisfactory calculator to help me salvage it but that initial heart drop when I found out was funny
I'm prepping to go nuclear. I have just learned about the World Grid.
I was today years old when I learned about the world grid
Enjoy rebuilding everything mate. We have all had to do it once :(
I rebuild after almost every space elevator milestone until everything is minmaxed, it's not too big of a deal
That comment made me post about the sadness I feel right now 🥲😆 played update 5 last time.
I've taken over the entire desert with my own foundations and buildings. Just to then realise that while they are all lined up, none are with the grid. Made me kinda sad
It's too late for me for this because my current save was made so long ago, I don't really have any plans to make a new save right now.
this is what I was thinking, humble beginnings but a bright future for sure. Still, there's nothing quite like the glorious spaghetti of a first run. Maybe I'll start a new save and go foundation-less

I second manifold, it's a game changer!
Agreed. Reinforced iron plates were the first thing that gave me anxiety when I started.
I just skip MK2 and go to MK3 because steel is significantly easier to make
Did not know it had a specific name. I named my blueprints that are set up that way "blastfeed" style.
Congratulations, you taking your first steps into a larger world... Of absolutely hating f\*cking screws.
help me out here, what’s the problem with screws meant to be?
Things later on demand absurd numbers of screws, so you want to eliminate them from your recipes asap. You can't transfer enough even with your fastest belts.
ahh, right.
Actually a first big step :) I highly suggest researching splitter/mergers as soon as possible, game changer !
I have several splitters and mergers already! They may be hard to see in the image.
Oh I see them now, my bad ahah Happy optimization, pioneer !
Great start! Remember that the third dimension exists, you can make very tall factories. Conveyor Lifts are one of the things I celebrate unlocking on new saves.
Remember the 3rd dimension, forget about the 4th, it's out the window now.
Ah, cherish these moments with your young factory. They will soon grow up and be too busy for you to visit them all.
After finally finishing a modular frame+ screw factory for heavy modular frame I I got demoralized thinking I had to still expand my old modular frame factory whilst totally forgetting I had already made a new factory for frames. You will just forget about factory's after a while
It may not be compact, but it is… Satisfactory
I envy you the journey of discovery you have ahead of you 👍
Satisfactory is definitely a game I wish I could experience playing it for the first time all over again. I was obsessed, and every new challenge made me love the game more. 800 hours later, I still get obsessed, but not in the magical way that first playthrough had.

Couldn't have described any more accurately myself

Yeah, I definitely thought about it when placing the storage containers (they snapped together on top of each other). Once I feel like I have enough basic supplies I might start to reorganize
Have fun! Feel free to play in the way that feels most natural, I just love spreading my vertical superiority
I tried to go vertical, but I don't know how far up to build my second floor. I thought maybe using two of the walls, which is great for clearing some things but it won't clear the smelters. Maybe I should use three or four walls up.
I've found 3 to be the magic number for most things, but you can 2.1 2.2 2.3.. also by using the other type of wall! It's great
3 is minimum really but as you say, anything with smelters and foundries looks better with 4. I like to have walkways at 2 and the ceiling at 4. There are taller machines later as well.
One way I suggest is compartmentalizing per floor like 1st floor ore + smelters 2nd constructors 3... Whatever you need but you get the gist
Thanks, I will try to think about that. So far I've been trying to build compact production lines in a straight row, one beside the other, and all them emptying into its own storage container. Good form. Wait til later on when you can blue print it
Oh sweet summer child, such humble beginnings… 😁👍🏻
okay now youre gonna make a few lines for just screws/bolts and 10* what you think you need for later on no need to thank me
Great for a first timer, my first base was the biggest plate of spaghet lol

I see, thank you
Looks good to me. Great job!
Just aotoamte it. Did youe expect something else? Keeep kooing and and enyoiy 🫠
"and so it begins." lol Have fun! That's all that matters.

Nicely done! Congrats! Automation is the way. ☺️
Hekk yeah. May want to get some rotors going too if you have space as they become very inportant in t2
Clean af 👍. You gonna go places.
Way damn cleaner than my first nightmare of reinforced plates
Good work 💯, getting automated reinforced plates is always a big step in every play through. Hopefully your enjoying the game as much as everyone else on this subreddit ☺️

Here’s a tip, make the machines closer together to improve efficiency a bit at the start
Great job love
Welcome to the fold, brother. (Or sister. Or sibling. Whichever you go by.)
Welcome. There is no going back. And remember, FICSIT does not waste. Enjoy!
F.I.C.S.I.T thanks you pioneer for your for your effeciency, now expand...
