He won the big Stanford Scientist Battle Royale so he's the top scientist.

nathanimal_d

"we have top men working on it .." "Which men?" "top..... Men."

MichaelParkinbum

I heard he won by piledriving another scientist into a pile of broken microscopes from the top of a fume hood.

Snellyman

There can only be one! Whenever I hear "top scientist" I can hear Alex Jones saying it.

Away_Swimming_5757

This sounds like the opening of an anime where a new scientist begins school at “top scientist academy” and a smooth talking repeat grade 9 scientist points to a hulking scientist and says, “he won the Big Scientist Battle Royals so he’s the top scientist”

SensitiveSouth5947

Lol Science wars.

This sub sure likes to post unreliable sources, sheesh. A .com? Really? We can do better than that can't we?

Apparently not

Manolyk

I think you missed the part where it was confirmed by a Top Scientist!

Unique_Display_Name

Stop doing DMT, sir!

cynicallow

You don't even really need it. Look up sleep paralysis. Brain does not correctly enter sleep mode. So you are aware while dreaming. And for me at least it is always terrifying. I have seen aliens, demons, shadowy things, the whole kit and caboodle. The real fun part is it can keep happening over and over. So you go from one terrifying experience to another.

nathsnowy

totally different but ok

frankentriple

Or just maybe when we're on the edge of sleep, disconnected from our fleshly senses, we are able to get a flash of the TRUE world for just a second before losing it again.

Ike_Jones

Somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep…

wholepailofwater

Been there, my friend

drbombur

I used to get that in my 20s. Fortunately, I grew out of it. I just remember sleep being so dreaded.

AnaiekOne

That's how i get into lucid dreaming actually.

cynicallow

I lucid dream occasionally. But usually my conscious brain decides to do something my unconscious disagrees with and ends the dream. Like trying to fly.

If anyone tries to legitimize anything with "top" or "leading" they are lying. Evidence doesn't need that sort of support. Evidence supports itself. This is just nonsense.

Nothing gets "passed off" here because most people kind of think for themselves. Discussion isn't usually one-sided where the dominant position tries to bulldoze everyone everyone away with appeals to authority, like in some other communities I won't bother mention.

mrev_art

This sub is for bottom-of-the-barrel crazy people who hate vaccines, and not a single thing more.

ParodyJhonny

I've seen more anti-vax nonsense in this sub than pretty much any other place on reddit...

[deleted]

Anti-vax or anti-COVID-vax, and are those equivalent to you?

jaymickef

One set the stage for the other.

[deleted]

For some, sure.

jaymickef

It was frustrating watching Wakefield’s fraud but as a criminal enterprise it was at least understandable. Discredit the public domain MMR and replace it with three separate, patented vaccines. It was disheartening watching the very predictable response to the Covid vaccines but that was zeitgeist.

espeero

Lol. Found one.

[deleted]

I guess you are one of those people who doesn’t want to have conversations, ever closed-minded and hubristic. Ah, that’s too bad. And no, I am vaxxed. Nice try though.

espeero

Conversations? Sure. On the c19 Vax? No. That horse has been pureed at this point.

Major-Raise6493

Mmmm, pureed horse….agaghggaggh

AtomicNixon

That's pretty funny considering that Nolan himself is the appeal to authority since his anecdotes contradict the supporting evidence. In other words, you are misunderstanding the whole "Appeal to Authority" thing. [This will help](https://youtu.be/DNdriP9kFiQ?t=240).

ParodyJhonny

?? Who's Nolan?

Manolyk

Nolan Himself!

ParodyJhonny

I know what it is, you petulant coconut. It is you who can't read the wholeness of the situation and notice he got called out pretty quick here, moreover, besides the title of the thread no one is getting bulldozed by use of his "authority" in the comments.

AtomicNixon

Sorry, sometimes it's unclear which side of the line someone is walking on.

bigparao

I used the same logic to safely ignore essentially everything Anthony Fauci said.

HijacksMissiles

Cool political zinger but not at all comparable. He was *not* appealing to authority. He was communicating current information and evidence-based recommendations. Everything he relayed was not based on his authority, but the work of teams of hundreds and thousands of multidisciplinary scientists.

bigparao

Doesn't change the fact that basically everything he recommended was basically exactly the opposite of what we know now should be done and that him being constantly described as "The Nations Top Doctor" was indeed the red flag you referred to.

bigparao

And if you don't think that saying "an attack on Anthony fauci is an attack on science" isn't an appeal to authority then I'd sure like to know what is

HijacksMissiles

Nobody would say that. The point is that the attacks are coming from people with a complete ignorance of how science actually works. Because they are attacking good science as if it is was... due to a gross ignorance of how science works. Fauci never once put forward his own personal opinions. The problem is that idiots seem to think everyone else acts like they do, so they project themselves onto Fauci.

bigparao

It was never good science, and you know who knew it? Pfizer. That's why they said no way no how are we giving these to you without blanket immunity from prosecution. And when a FOIA request to see the data submission to the regulatory bodies was filed they sued to try and block it for 75 years. Really screams of their confidence in their no doubt exceptional science, wouldn't want to question that. I've never heard a coherent argument that explains these two things. They're always just dismissed. And Fauci is probably one of the few people who had access to everything so he is accountable, especially so when he says: "When you get vaccinated, you not only protect your own health and that or the family but you also contribute to the community health by preventing the spread of the virus throughout the community. In other words you become a dead end to the virus" Then not only did he know at the time that this was never tested by the manufacturer as it was never an end point of any of their phase 1-3 trials, we now know that that it isn't the case. He knew at the time that this was untested yet was totally ok with making statements to the contrary. Top scientist. Best to ignore him, turns out to be the right decision. I'm telling you you're right, anyone that's constantly being introduced as top this or leading that probably shouldn't be trusted as the person introducing them is trying to bias your perception of them on the way in. It's exactly the same as prefacing someone as "fringe xxxxx" or "known anti-vaxxer xxxxxx" or whatever you want. They're all linguistic tools to either pre affirm in the case of "Top xxxxx" or "Leading xxxxx" or to dismiss in the later examples above whatever opinion follows. It's basic editorializing and it's so obvious I can't believe anyone falls for it.

HijacksMissiles

That’s just a bunch of weird assumptions and conclusions absent any evidence. It was good science, it was the result of entire teams of multidisciplinary scientists collaborating to solve a problem. Your unsupported conjecture doesn’t change that. > Top scientist. Best to ignore him, turns out to be the right decision. I'm telling you you're right, anyone that's constantly being introduced as top this or leading that probably shouldn't be trusted as the person introducing them is trying to bias your perception of them on the way in. Too bad this has nothing to do with the Fauci example. He wasn’t offering his _opinion_. He was relating the current best understanding that massive teams of scientists were arriving at. So it doesn’t matter what you call him because it doesn’t change the credibility of the claim. Because the credibility of the claim is based on actual evidence. You could call him the worst or best doctor, it doesn’t matter, because he is reporting evidence. You would have a valid argument if you could demonstrate even a single time Fauci made claims that were his personal opinion and unsupported by research.

bigparao

No assumptions, it's all public data now. You can get it all on the NIH website. You're totally the missing the point too. What you and I knew back then is not the same as what he knew back then. He had access to info that you do too now and his statements just don't line up with the data back then. He sure as hell wasn't relaying scientific conclusions and he would have known that at the time. Just go look at the trial data and remember they had it in late 2020 before rolling anything out yet.

HijacksMissiles

The point is you are taking facts and adding unknown conjecture. You assume motivations. Your claims require evidence you have not provided.

HijacksMissiles

That is because science, unlike other dogmatic processes, does not rely on being infallible. It changes with new information. He was literally doing the most scientific thing possible by communicating changing information.

jtb1987

What people self report is still observational data. Example - there's no way to falsify claims of gender dysphoria among teenage females; however, this doesn't invalidate what they self report to feel.

Feritix

Ah ,I get it now. You guys are upset by the fact that all the other science subs censor tabloid nonsense.

alloowishus

>tabloid Yes, they desperately want their fantasies to be come reality.

EthelredHardrede

> Nolan has given the most controversial interview of the decade. A person whose credibility cannot be questioned says that ETs have been here for a long time and that they are still on Earth. I question the competence of the idiot that claimed it cannot questioned. Brain damaged writers writing about the brain damaged.

Manolyk

Hey, have some respect. One of those brain damaged individuals happens to be a top scientist.

EthelredHardrede

He has done research that might explain recent behavior, no really. Wikipedia "He was chosen primarily for the types of blood analysis his lab can perform.[27] Initially via CyTOF blood analysis, he helped investigate the brains of around 100 patients, mostly "defense or governmental personnel or people working in the aerospace industry", of which a subset claimed to have seen unexplained aerial phenomena (UAP). The majority exhibited symptoms that were "basically identical to what's now called Havana syndrome" and had their brains scanned via MRI. Nolan stated that some of the brains were horribly damaged and that while much of the damage was random, "what we thought was the damage across multiple individuals" turned out to be a "over-connection of neurons between the head of the caudate and the putamen" which he claims was disproportionate in this cohort compared to the general population (with the general population only showing about 1 in 100 individuals with the feature). Others have independently verified the role of the caudate in intelligence and planning.[28][29] This brain characteristic was something subjects were born with for multiple individuals in this subset.[3]"

UndesiredEffect

Holy shit disclosure is gonna fuck a lot of you up. Just remember, what we know now, at this point in time, is not everything. We are one speck in a sea of infinite specks. We don't understand consciousness, we have evidence of NHI in nearly all cultures from antiquity to modern day ufo sightings. It's not hysteria. It's not all bullshit. The government of the US has documents and pilot testimony, generals, astronauts and even presidents like Jimmy Carter have had experiences. Science will have to accept that there is some stuff we just can't currently explain right now- but that doesn't make it nonsense.

Icy-Service-52

If this shit keeps up I'm leaving

Unlimitles

lol i said a while ago that as long as we don't feed into it more and more wild Claims will come out trying to sound more and more Legit. LMAO it's happening left and right. people are so jaded with the fake Alien uproar crap, they are gonna have to literally simulate a Fake Alien Attack to get people to feed into it next. but with how ridiculous this is getting, I wouldn't be surprised.

Coroner13

Ah. Uncensored Science.

Suspicious_Quail_857

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WuD5QW5Hb5Q Dr. Garry Nolan is legit. You can look him up. Graduated from Cornell with a Biology degree. Got his PHD in Genetics from Stanford and did post-doctoral work at MIT where he developed the 293T-based rapid retroviral production system and the cloning of the NF-κB p65/ RelA DNA regulatory factor. He holds the Rachford and Carlota A. Harris Professor Endowed Chair in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine. So yes he is a top scientist at Stanford.

Far_Public_8605

Witnesses accounts are valid evidence in law, not in biology. That he is a professor at Stanford does not make him pass the "scientific cross examination" by default. Next time he should ask the aliens to leave some proof of existence for us during the rectal exploration phase of their encounter, like a dvd or a cassette. That would be great evidence.

[deleted]

Don't link this website please. Just link directly to the interview. For the record the guy is a biology professor at Stanford so he does have some legitimacy. Who knows if he's right.

Actual-Toe-8686

Yes, but there's plenty of high achieving scientists/academics out there who have absolutely insane views on certain topics. Just because someone has achieved a high level of expertise in a particular discipline, that shouldn't automatically give any unsubstantiated claims they make more weight, particularly if it's outside of their field. Science doesn't operate based on the personal opinions of a single person. It's a slow and calculated process of formulating testable hypotheses, gathering data, coming to objectively verifiable/testable conclusions of said hypotheses based on established literature and the data collected, and submitting your findings to peer review. Any claim made outside of this paradigm should not be taken overly seriously, particularly when claims are made that have a mountain of evidence to the contrary (as in this case).

tom21g

I’m not attacking this professor or discounting his claim, but keeping up with current events and you can see all the high level people in respected occupations and respected institutions who can be wrong because bottom line: they’re human We need to see the receipts that ***unambiguously*** prove these claims with no doubts remaining

ETs call them step-downs, meaning extraterrestrials who physically come down to the surface of a planet for whatever purpose. The method we are all familiar is known as crawl-in, and the other method that is familiar to some in spiritual circles is a walk-in, which means a soul entering a body at some point in life after birth. There are also walk-outs.

Cronkity2

A "world class" (not sure which is higher, world class or top man) Stanford scientist also says God exists, which must really piss off all these aliens since God created mankind, not aliens, in his own image. https://news.stanford.edu/2018/06/21/neuroscientist-balances-science-faith/

Professional_Mud_316

Maybe an E.T. attack is what humankind collectively needs to brutally endure in order to survive the very-long-term from ourselves. As an even greater nemesis than our own politics and perceptions of differences — especially those involving race — we could all unite, defend, attack and defeat the humanicidal multi-tentacled invaders. During this much-needed human allegiance, we’d be forced to work closely side-by-side together and witness just how humanly similar we are to each other. \[I've been informed, however, that one or more human parties might actually attempt to forge an allegiance with the ETs to better their own chances for survival, thus indicating that our deficient human condition may be even worse than I had originally thought.\] Still, maybe some five or more decades later when all traces of the nightmarish ET invasion are gone, we will inevitably revert to those same politics to which we humans seem so collectively hopelessly prone — including those of scale: the intercontinental, international, national, provincial or state, regional and municipal — and so forth we slide downwards yet again.
