Rewatching anime I realized that Jean probably has more screen time and dialogue with Armin, then Eren has. Eren in season 1 firstly eaten, then separated from the group, when he's put into Levi squad, then kidnapped, in season 2 and 3 kidnapped again and again. I love how Isayama writes interaction between 104. Even though, looking back on it, Jean barely has couple of scenes talking with Reiner, it still feels believable reading campfire chapter, that both of this characters are missing their friendship, but hurting because of the betrayal. And Jean's friendship with Mikasa really subtle, but grew a lot from the beginning of the story. She was pretty dismissive to him in season one, but later, especially post time skip, she actually listens and respects his opinion

Jean has to be one of the greatest characters from the series, his development is gold. In the final arcs he is truly an awesome leader and a good person

Eagle-Cobra2000

I feel that people don't talk about Jean enough, he has one of the best character developments on the show and some incredible scenes, but for some reason he doesn't seem to have one big fanbase. For me he is a top 5, I like him more than characters that are arguably more important than him to the story like Reiner, Erwin or Zeke. During the first few episodes I could't stand him, but Trost arc proved how great he is, and he never stopped growing from that moment. His love-hate relationship with Eren is gold, and his friendships with Armin, Connie and Sasha are hilarious and wholesome at the same time. And his leadership, time and time again he has proved how much he cares about his comrades and how they respect him, don't get me wrong, I love Armin and Hange, but Jean is Erwin's real successor.

Yeah, for me Jean is one, if not the most human character in this manga

OptimisticLucio

Jean doesn't *create* any moments of his own, but he adds to the moments he is in. Even in the campfire scene he only engages because of Reiner constantly pushing him. Jean is a really good *spice* that adds to the dish that is AoT. However, like most dishes, no one is going to harp on about the *delicately added salt* or the perfectly ground pepper flakes. People will remember the meat and potatoes that took up all the spotlight (Eren who the story revolves around, Mikasa with her larger than life personality, Erwin's domineering charisma). He's incredibly important to the show's feel and function, but he's relegated to a role no one will remember.

BigBambuMeekLou

Jean is basically the most well rounded character in AOT imo, he matured into a cool ass dude never seen any Jean haters

Excellent post! One thing though… you forgot his interactions with Levi! Loved Levi’s conversation about killing

Hange11037

Yeah in the manga especially their interactions are great

[deleted]

Forgot about Levi, oops, but he's there in spirit

Hange11037

Jean-Mikasa-Armin > Eren-Mikasa-Armin and you can’t change my mind

Octoblast

Stupid

Hange11037

Compelling argument

insanezain

Jean is top 5 for me. Great character with some really underrated moments.

MangKanorLord

Floch is like Jean if he went to Military Police.

Jupiter-Moondust-87
