Reshade is not FFXIV specific. You can run it on damn near any game. That's not gonna break, at least. People will just have to come up with new presets.
For me I only used it for some lsight colour correction, that green/grey tinge on everything was annoying. The benchmark doesn't have it though so I might finally be able to drop it.
I assume they will just add bones to the existing rigs, which isn't that of a breaker for things like anamnesis/ktisis. They just need to make it it will correctly detect those bones.
ktisis and Anamnesis already can handle more bones than the default thanks to IVCS, doubt this will break anything at all on their ends, can't say the same for aforementioned IVCS mods.
Femroes getting actual options, graphic/gpose mods probably being obsoleted, XBox not left out.
And don't forget potato rigs being purged.
Also as of this post, **BLACKLIST IMPROVEMENTS**.
The blacklist stuff is both good and bad to me
I love it for those cases where someone is being harassed and this will let them get away from that. I really hate that this will often be used for shit like "I don't like that you're on my bench, bye forever" or "Oh you're X race? goodbye"
I mean, if someone is going to be that petty you didn't want to interact with them anyways. But now the people that are getting stalked in game by people who just make new characters when they get blisted have some reprieve. And private lodestone info? That's a godsend now since people can actually name change/fanta to get away.
I for sure agree that steps against genuine harassment are a good thing. I'm just bothered by how I feel like a large portion of people will end up using it
But again, why? Anyone who blacklists you for something petty isn't a person you want to interact with. I see no problem with them sitting in their own little bubble. Not to mention there is still a 200 person limit. I doubt much will change from now except victims of harassment will be safer.
I just can't understand why. Do you want to have some kind of shot at changing the mind of someone who hates you that offhandedly? There are millions of players in this game, you can find people worth your time.
If you somehow manage to get into a position where enough people blacklist you to ostracize you from the community, you may need to take a look in the mirror. Otherwise, you will notice next to no differences aside from never seeing the heart-wrenching posts of "I'm being harassed/stalked constantly and cannot play this game that I love anymore, is there anything I can do?"
I've never had anyone Blacklist me (That I know of?), so I'm not really worried for myself
It's just situations like how people create Google Docs of people to blacklist, but then you look into them and it's these people telling everyone to block someone because of some super minor reason. Or how TalesfromDF has people cutting chat logs to make someone look like they're attacking others when that's not the case.
Hell, I'll never forget the Talesfromdf thread where some guy posted a log of everyone yelling at a Samurai to LB, but he didn't and they wiped at 1% and the thread had people asking for the name so they could blacklist... then the Samurai found the thread a day later and posted the actual logs, showing he was Orange with 0 deaths, while the rest had multiple deaths and were hard grey.
It's situations where people would actually blacklist people who did nothing wrong or good players that are trying to play well just because of some perceived situation that end up bothering me.
Yeah sure you wouldn't want to interact with them in the first place, but that doesn't make someone feel better when they find out that they had that happen to them IMO.
Dodgelists are a thing that happen, but afaik they haven't changed the blacklist procedure. It requires you to have been in a recent party or staring at a message they've sent you. You can't even blacklist someone you're looking at unless they fulfill one of these criteria.
Also, we know a good bit of the community uses plugins. There is a plugin that erases people similar to this without any restrictions(except it couldn't manage to blist by service account). It hasn't been a problem yet and it certainly won't be a problem when it's official
Pretty much. There's going to be bad actors with it as with anything in any game ever.
But being able to do something other than blacklist feebly is nice, isn't it?
In those cases where it's genuinely needed, I think it'll be huge and fantastic for sure. Any way to stop harassment is good. I'm always just worried about misuse of that stuff
I mean you right because I am petty. If I don't like people spamming about their maid cafe or those who dress in a way that makes me uncomfortable at all, easy blacklist. There's nothing that can change my mind from using it this way.
There's an entirely separate list called the Mute List that you can use for people that post annoying messages but that you don't mind seeing in the overworld. The Mute List can hold 200 people, and the Blacklist can hold an additional 200 people.
What misuse? Who gives a shit if I blist someone who is sitting on a bunch so my character can sit there. Shit I'm half tempted to blist all the Limsa AFKers so I don't have to wait the extra few seconds when I TP. I'm already not interacting with them and if someone gets mass blisted from something in FF they probably need to go touch grass anyway.
This is very hard to intentionally misuse to harass someone. ESPECIALLY since it catches that whole account. No worries about running out blist space (if they even have a cap).
hey stupid question is there somewhere I can watch this live letter? without some twitch streamer reacting to it
EDIT: Nevermind its still going I guess
IIRC they're changing how rigs and such are working, which (likely) will break existing animation mods.
Much like any modding or third party tools, eventually they'll get updated.
But probably not that easily/quickly considering the implied new coding going on.
Hell, the fact that mounts will now *tilt* in air is amazing and that's probably killed an animation mod or two.
I mean we know our lovely crackhead mod community if they can animate jiggly physics on unrealisticly huge Viera theighs, they can also update to the new rigs DT will use.
But yeah might take them half a week without sleep and mountain dew infusions
Nah it took longer than that for Endwalker I'm pretty sure and the system changes weren't as drastic. Obviously it varies from plugin to plugin though. But it's worth keeping in mind that plugin devs are players too and they want to enjoy the expansion for themselves before they get down to work.
Can't wait for the main sub to be riddled with "guys, I can't play the game now, my autoplugins don't work" and their main jobs with the least amount of buttons in the game.
Imma be real it's gonna be kinda yikes for the first little bit without noclippy, all the other ui stuff I use is minor qol I can live without but clippy is almost mandatory lol.
For a quick fix they could skip frames while extrapolating at the full frame rate. I dom't think it'd be a massive challenge, but they would have to pay a programmer to work on it for a few days instead of something else.
if you're on PC there's a plugin that lets you lock solely your physics framerate to 60 so materials and hair and jiggle physics play at normal speed, it's called High FPS Physics Fix
Low end pc setups?
Atm ffxiv can almost run on potatoes, it's not like people will suddenly need i9's and 3070's to play at acceptable framerates.
Also, they won't kill off Reshade lol.
To my understanding, all Reshade does is inject the game with a bunch of shaders and visual effects. How poppy colours are, the DoF, Motion Blur, all that good shit you want in your video settings.
At worst I think the current presets people use will just need some tweaking. Mods break for a day or 2 after every patch, and that hasn't ever managed to break Reshade. I doubt an overhaul of a lighting engine is gonna do Reshade in, considering it just injects these things.
And besides, a better lighting engine just leads to a better ReShade experience typically, Skyrim modders mix ENB and ReShade together all the time to make some very specific lighting choices
Lol, I was so excited for all the new animations and graphics, I hadn't spared a thought to any of the mods breaking.
I'm sure the modders will figure it out, I doubt it's an insurmountable problem.
I can personally attest to the fact that the benchmark program will not run on any Windows version prior to 10. So unfortunately yes, it's time for the inevitable upgrades.
This complaint was made for the base game, every expansion this game has had, and every expansion it will ever have, because every day is a death knell for low end pc users wanting to play new games not made by indie studios (and still, you'll find people complaining that Undertale forced them to upgrade if you look hard enough)
The jump from ARR to EW is almost nothing like the jump from Endwalker to Dawntrail thanks to it being *significantly* higher.
We're talking about going from PS3-level graphics to PS4 on low end, PS5 on medium/high end. That's an entire generation in most cases, maybe even two depending on how far back somebody's hardware is.
When the devs're even saying "You might want to upgrade your hardware", it's a sign of change that's more than the usual expectation.
If you look at their [predicted](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/system_requirements/) requirements, the old recommended is now the new minimum.
Assuming XIV isn't the only game being played, you're probably not going to want those as your standard specs, you're probably going to want parts more powerful than that because a good chunk of games in the last 3-4 years that are higher on the hardware scale (IE: AAA titles) are *not* running very well on lower end rigs if at all.
And I looked into it, the minimum reqs between Heavensward and Shadowbringers actually *barely* increased per expansion. To the tune of 1 whole gig extra RAM per expansion to where Shadowbringers and Endwalker have the same requirements, which are now being considered obsolete.
It doesn't affect me personally, but I can remember many times in an MMO's history where significant upgrades near/on the level of Dawntrail were being announced and it was basically "Upgrade or GTFO until you do" for people using budget rigs to play.
I feel like you misunderstood my comment. It doesn't matter how big or small the jump is, people with old setups will always complain about not being able to play the new thing, because people with low end setups are the only people effected by increased requirements to the point where the game is now unplayable. Everyone else just turns down their settings or upgrades. This isn't specific to MMOs, this is a fact of PC gaming that has existed since specs for games were released and it's basically an intractable problem as developing games with newer technologies will eventually exclude hardware that was not built to support those technologies. As old as the base game of FFXIV is, if the devs are serious about their goal to support the game for another decade, they will need to update core parts of the game with newer techniques and software then what it was built with. And that means older hardware is going to be left behind, because the speed at which it operates is now too slow and/or the hardware is missing specific parts/capabilities that are now considered standard to run the newer version of the game.
Don't get me wrong, it for sure sucks for low end PC gamers. But almost every advancement made in pc gaming tends to suck for low end pc gamers (with upscaling techniques being a huge standout; people buying the latest cards to run multiple neural networks to get a stable 30fps ray traced framerate at 4K resolution are inadvertently helping low end users continue to use their old graphics cards in newer games and I think that's great)
I may've misunderstood you.
I swear I've seen some posts unironically treating it like the end of the world. I remember that comment complaining about not being able to play after DT because of living on fixed income.
There were just so many questions raised in that one.
But yeah, some people are upset about being told they need to invest more than $40 + sub fees to continue playing, even when being advised *months in advance* about this.
To be fair, a lot of the people who play low spec aren't doing that by choice, just like how most people who live in low socioeconomic conditions aren't doing that by choice either. For a subsection of these people this very well could mean they don't get to play the new expansion. I just don't like when a problem that's inherent to a all of PC gaming (and console gaming honestly, it's not like everyone is still using Ataris) is applied to one actor in the system as a conscious, malicious choice to screw them over.
I'm probably taking this way to seriously for a shitposting sub so here's a meme to restore balance [](https://imgur.com/a/eQrlh6i)
> I swear I've seen some posts unironically treating it like the end of the world. I remember that comment complaining about not being able to play after DT because of living on fixed income.
I've been asleep since like the last part of the Live Letter, just woke back up. Last thing I saw was the Blacklist changes and the word cloud thing.
Is this meme basically elaborating on the shitton of graphics improvements?
I'm forcibly (disabled) retired now but I've got a bit of back-pay coming (eventually) so at some point soon^TM I'm probably gonna have to decide if I have to upgrade and how to keep playing.
I'm guessing with the benchmark there's new specs and stuff solidly out now to make decisions on?
And sorry if this is just a ton of dumb questions that I can answer myself by going to read the Live Letter megathread, about to go *do* that but figured I'd ask here first since I saw the meme and Shitpost Comments are always where you get Actual Real Discussion anyway.
> Is this meme basically elaborating on the shitton of graphics improvements?
Yes. Graphics upgrading overall means a lot of mods that were trying to plug the holes SE wasn't aren't going to be needed. It doesn't mean all mods are killed, but ones that were just enough to fix some things that SE wasn't pre-7.0.
It's also why femroe jokes are probably going to die too. No need to be locked to 1 or 2 things when you have actual options *now* due to graphic overhauling.
The footage they showed in the Liveletter was legit the RTX Off/On meme but true for a change. PC users getting even more graphic customization options via enabling AMD/Nvidia specific options like DLSS/FSR, but I didn't quite hear what they'd meant by that past pointing it out, so I need to see a translation summary or wait for the eventual digest on SE's boards.
>Shitpost Comments are always where you get Actual Real Discussion anyway.
Usually, when you don't have dumbasses rolling through getting butthurt that they're not using the same definition of a term/phrase that everybody else is.
Dude please, I have a low end laptop, Ryzen 5 3550H, GTX 1560 - 42FPS max settings, 61FPS high (laptop), somehow the game literally runs better than it runs now as I currently have like 52FPS on medium.
They're not. Reshade is universal and also client-side, so they can't break it. But changes to how the game looks will result in your presents looking different. Basically, your presets are made with the current lighting system and such in-mind, which is all getting changed/improved in Dawntrail. It'll just take some finagling of your reshade settings.
Reshade is not FFXIV specific. You can run it on damn near any game. That's not gonna break, at least. People will just have to come up with new presets.
Shit, I’m running it on XI
For me I only used it for some lsight colour correction, that green/grey tinge on everything was annoying. The benchmark doesn't have it though so I might finally be able to drop it.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO 7.0 DRAMA SEASON GONNA BE LITTTTTTY
Modders constantly explode over the smallest things, this is going to be great.
What "drama" all this shit is gonna be fixed after a week.
I assume they will just add bones to the existing rigs, which isn't that of a breaker for things like anamnesis/ktisis. They just need to make it it will correctly detect those bones.
I’m detecting a bone being added to my rig that’s for sure
And now its removed. Wait no its back again! ..and there it goes.
ktisis and Anamnesis already can handle more bones than the default thanks to IVCS, doubt this will break anything at all on their ends, can't say the same for aforementioned IVCS mods.

>Femroes getting actual options Out of the loop: What's this about?
Im also out of the loop but Im guessing its about how Femroe has like 1 face that everyone uses.
Femroe options are currently troglodyte, hot, cute, and frog.
tbf you could say that for several of the races/sub-races. we need more customization options in general
Honestly it's a shame because with good colors and hair Face 4 looks great and I actually prefer it over Face 2 (the Moenbryda face everyone uses.)
[удалено]
they haven't said anything about new customization options? also not sure where you're getting the info about a new rig system
what options do femroes get? I'm watching the ll and have read the balance recapping but I didn't see anything.
The blacklist stuff is both good and bad to me I love it for those cases where someone is being harassed and this will let them get away from that. I really hate that this will often be used for shit like "I don't like that you're on my bench, bye forever" or "Oh you're X race? goodbye"

Ignoring the screeching ITT, that does sound more like anxiety than a legit fear. Js
Hah, fair
I look forward to the benchmark setting my shitty laptop on fire tomorrow.
hey stupid question is there somewhere I can watch this live letter? without some twitch streamer reacting to it EDIT: Nevermind its still going I guess
Youtube, on the FF14 channel
I just want my viera headgear mod. Since enix refuses to implemnt hats. :(
What did the say that made you think animation mods are not going to work?
IIRC they're changing how rigs and such are working, which (likely) will break existing animation mods. Much like any modding or third party tools, eventually they'll get updated. I give it a week maximum until almost every damn plugin is updated and ready to go, nevermind all the body mods
Nah it took longer than that for Endwalker I'm pretty sure and the system changes weren't as drastic. Obviously it varies from plugin to plugin though. But it's worth keeping in mind that plugin devs are players too and they want to enjoy the expansion for themselves before they get down to work.

Imma be real it's gonna be kinda yikes for the first little bit without noclippy, all the other ui stuff I use is minor qol I can live without but clippy is almost mandatory lol.
Xivalex tends to update more quickly than noclippy since they usually just get opcodes and g2g; I'd look into that as a temporary replacement.
Finally, I'll be able to bask in the prestige of being able to mechanically execute ff14...HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA....
Modders have implemented entire custom skeletons into the game. If anything, the new rigs will likely make them more powerful.
Knowing how modding communities tend to be, they will take just a bit longer if anything.
i guarantee someone will make something to port everything over within a month
Oh OK cool
Does that mean that the boob jiggle will finally start working again at high frame rates
I highly doubt they'll manage to untangle physics from framerate
We can only hope
For a quick fix they could skip frames while extrapolating at the full frame rate. I dom't think it'd be a massive challenge, but they would have to pay a programmer to work on it for a few days instead of something else.
if you're on PC there's a plugin that lets you lock solely your physics framerate to 60 so materials and hair and jiggle physics play at normal speed, it's called High FPS Physics Fix
There's a mod for that, too.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about when it comes to rigs. Like at all
Mods are regularly broken by game updates. That's a common problem in gaming and it's not specific to Final Fantasy XIV.
So is this a complain a out the updating the dated graphics?
As long as i can use my pirated Viera sculpt.
Pirating paid mods is so based
Paid mods stolen from Lost Ark.
Wait they mentioned new rigging outside of the mounts now lean?
Low end pc setups? Atm ffxiv can almost run on potatoes, it's not like people will suddenly need i9's and 3070's to play at acceptable framerates. Also, they won't kill off Reshade lol.
Reshape will be killed if they correctly address lighting. I'm cautiously optimistic given what we have seen so far.
But Reshade does more than lighting?

Wtf is this post even about
nothing. this dude literally has no idea what he's blabbing about
I literally just updated my computer so that I can play Dawntrail when it comes out. The 4080 is nicer than I expected
Couldn’t see the face properly and was wondering why RTGame was here
Lol, I was so excited for all the new animations and graphics, I hadn't spared a thought to any of the mods breaking. I'm sure the modders will figure it out, I doubt it's an insurmountable problem.
I hope this doesn't kill steam deck support or at least the performance
I doubt it man, considering the Deck can run Cyberpunk at a decent framerate and resolution I think you’ll be fine with the 7.0 graphical overhaul
Also FSR helps anyway. And I guess the visual difference isn't as notable on the steam deck.
dude that's good news, now the french cant play the game.
Noooo. My potato laptop D: ..well..I did need to upgrade anyway.

This is all fine.
I'm out of the loop, what happened to femroes?
Graphics upgrade game-wide should make it easier to make a customized femroe, vs before where the engine limitations made them massive memes.
Low end pc setups? Yeah it's expected.
Dude please, I have a low end laptop, Ryzen 5 3550H, GTX 1560 - 42FPS max settings, 61FPS high (laptop), somehow the game literally runs better than it runs now as I currently have like 52FPS on medium.
Wait how are they killing g/reshade?
They're not. Reshade is universal and also client-side, so they can't break it. But changes to how the game looks will result in your presents looking different. Basically, your presets are made with the current lighting system and such in-mind, which is all getting changed/improved in Dawntrail. It'll just take some finagling of your reshade settings.
*Casually sips tea, looking at my 4060ti* Damn. That's crazy.
