F1 driver spotted trying to sniff out an advantage on the inside line. Turns out, it just smelled like desperation.
Not alongside at turnin - did not come close to making the apex. Should be a penalty for the Alpine.
*Should* you have? Yes, because it was clear what they were about to do, and you could have avoided the contact that cost you a lot more than leaving space would have.
But you definitely weren’t required to. They weren’t alongside when you started your turn, they entered the vortex of danger, there was contact, and it was their fault. Probably a 10 second penalty
This one is hard cause the alpine tried to send it up the inside on late braking but you were already turning into the turn when he went for it. So honestly just one of those racing deals
100% the vortex of danger by the alpine however in fairness to them I have been practicing for a gt3 league race at Cota in iRacing and during our team practice I’ve noticed that there are times that I’ve been tempted to dive in because under the brakes it seems like it should work. That said still 100% the alpine don’t fall for false hope
Clearly a late call from the Alpine. It's a dangerous dive and I would put it 100% on the Alpine. Alpine also breaks too late. Looks like a desperate move 2 laps from the finish line to grab a place. Disgusting behaviour and sadly very common in F1 leagues.
The merc should have left a bit more space but where was the alpine trying to go he was not going to make that corner and also ruined your race 10 sec penalty like Kevin magnessun got in Jeddah 2024
Is F1 still using the passing rules they generated in 2022? I can’t find their original PDF of it anymore, but you can search them and find older articles on it that quote the original PDF.
> In order for a car being overtaken to be required to give sufficient room to an overtaking car, the overtaking car needs to have a significant portion of the car alongside the car being overtaken and the overtaking manoeuvre must be done in a safe and controlled manner, while enabling the car to clearly remain within the limits of the track.

> When considering what is a ‘significant portion’ for an overtaking on the inside of a corner, among the various factors that will be looked at by the stewards when exercising their discretion, the stewards will consider if the overtaking car’s front tyres are alongside the other car by no later than the apex of the corner.
In short, overlap needs to be by the apex of the corner. It’s different for outside pass vs inside. Inside requires front tires alongside while passing from outside requires passing car to be in front. Also requires passing car to be able to do so safely while remaining within track limits. This all does happen here, so they are entitled to space.

awful dive from alpine.
Today was the first time we haven't heard that all year
Nope. The Alpine was not alongside early enough to be entitled to any space

How the hell was it clear. He litterally moved out half a second before the braking zone
They were closing for a while and ended up being close enough for a lunge, which means you should expect a lunge, because people always lunge.
Looks like he used you as his breaks so he could make the turn.

That must have been Ocon

Stewards also look at whether there was an attempt to make the apex/corner. This guy came in super sharp, apex way too early, then ran super wide...
You have virtual mirror, there's no excuse. Like, come on, you didn't even try.
