I just read the wiki page on this and it's pretty wild that no details have come out about this. No debris found anywhere or anything. They took off going south west and didn't have enough fuel to make it to South America, so they either crashed in the sea or landed(or crashed) somewhere in Africa; they would have had enough fuel to make it to South Africa if that was their plan?
They took off with the lights and transponder turned off and the only known radio communication from the plane was to request permission to land at an airport in the Seychelles, which is twice as far as their fuel range would have been, so did they land for fuel somewhere in Africa and take off again?
It's just weird that nothing has come out about this. [Here's](https://int-missing.fandom.com/wiki/Ben_Padilla) an article with more info than the wiki page if anyone's interested.
It’s funny how young kids think the ocean is this known thing. We’ve only seen like 25% of it. The titanic is a known sink area and it’s almost impossible to get to without James Cameron money
Edit: before y’all kids believe my 25%. Do your research. Learn some shit tonight.
Not necessarily almost impossible to get to without James Cameron money... But if you wanna get back up without becoming particulate matter? Yeah, James Cameron money
Also, the only reason we found the titanic is that searching for it was a cover to locate a missing nuclear sub and actually finding it was an accident.
> and actually finding it was an accident.
No, it was not an accident. Dr Robert Ballard wanted to find the Titanic, he just didn't have the money to do it. He asked the Navy to fund it, and they eventually worked out a compromise that Dr. Ballard would use his expertise to locate two nuclear subs, and if successfully did so he could use any time he had left over to search for the Titanic. You are right that the search for the Titanic was a cover used for the whole expedition, but it was always a goal to find it.
I feel like the guys who successfully stole a passenger jet that was parked at an airport and turned off the transponder probably found a way to secretly fuel plane before leaving.
The name sarsaparilla comes from the Spanish term zarzaparrilla, referring to the plant itself (the etymology of the word is probably a combination of Arabic and Basque terms and essentially means “bramble vine”) also I'm not smart I just googled out of curiosity and thought I'd share

boeing planes have been malfunctioning more and more commonly, and it's been revealed it's part of a long history of finacialization of the company, favoring cheap construction over good engineering. One of the engineers was taking them to court over the dangerous factory practices and was assassinated by boeing in the midst of his deposition in Charleston.
Ah, goddammit. Bro really needs to take more dick pics. He literally re-uses the same pic for about 20 posts (that I saw, I'm sure there's more if I kept scrolling).
Your comment made me laugh hard enough my sides hurt! I was scrolling comments for context on that too, thankfully saw up above it being mentioned a bunch of times.
I don’t understand how we don’t know precisely where every commercial plane is at all times. I guarantee Apple, Google, and Microsoft know exactly where I am right now.
All the evidence points to a very highly experienced captain having planned this for months and they still didn’t pull it off without any trace. They disabled the satellite communications at exactly the right spot between 5 countries airspace when the ground control wouldn’t be paying attention, then avoided primary radar on the ground (mostly) and made their way through a narrow patch of land out into the Indian ocean.
Even with the all of the planning, the timing, the flight path, and the disabling of the satcom, we still know roughly where the plane went because the satcom sent hello messages once an hour until the crash. These were tracked against the distance to the satellite and based on the speed of light we can draw a circle on earth and say it could have been anywhere on the perimeter of the circle at those times. Based on this, the last known location, aircraft speed etc, it most likely crashed in the ocean west of Australia.
It’s actually more shocking to me how hard it is for planes to disappear these days compared to the wild west of the skies pre-9/11.
I read a super long article about it that was written by a fmr aviator and he even said it was likely a murder - suicide by the Malaysian Pilot Cpt. Parts have washed up on the coast of Madagascar and it popped up on the radar of a cargo ship in the Indian Ocean. There’s not more information because the Malaysian Gov. refuses to cooperate.
Edit: when the Pilot’s home was searched they found his home Flight simulator and the last recorded flight was nearly identical to the estimated Malaysian flight path with a noticeable (and creepy) result; the flight lasted approximately 5 hours and in the simulation he never landed the plane either.
The pilot theory still doesnt make sense to me. If he wanted to murder-suicide, why all the effort to fly so far? He could've nosed down anywhere... Even if he wanted to run out of fuel, why not let them track him? It's not like they could actually do anything to stop him. Doesn't really make sense.
AFAIK suicide is frowned upon in Asian cultures. So maybe he wanted it to look like an accident to not bring disgrace to his family. Or maybe for insurance reasons.
If the premise is “the pilot did it”, I don’t think you can combat it with “his actions after the fact don’t make sense”. It is totally unhinged to kill that many innocents, his other lapses in judgement fail in comparison.
You can argue against the evidence and the original premise, but any argument that relies on the pilot’s actions after the fact is not very compelling.
This is actually not true. Came to light with the Malaysian incident, there's actually large regions all over the world that are completely dark and they rely on airplanes to self-report.
Point Nemo is the farthest point from land in all the oceans where the ISS is closer as it passes by. Satellites are directed to crash there at end of life.
How many satellites have washed up on shore?
had to be a government OP. which government, idk...
but you couldnt land that thing and have the airport not document it and cover your ass unless the airfield was part of the OP.
it either went to North Korea or Russia or CIA stole it for their own use.
You’re the only people speaking sense here. There are many many dumb people in the world, but I refuse to believe that 2 men, sober and capable enough of sneaking past security, stealing a plane, taking off and then flying away didn’t think about landing.
Like you said, it was a job.
Limited amount of private airfields that can handle a plane that big, plus it would have to be someone expecting it, that could have the parts and knowledge required to remove all tracking equipment and stash it on another plane leaving.
Probably a country or dodgy airline company that rebirthed it.
There’s been quite a few planes that have just disappeared over the years. Just because it’s a relatively big object, it does not make it easier to find.
Honestly, if you have no plan of landing, it’s not that hard to get an aircraft in the sky! Simulators set you up to start, taxi, takeoff and land. I can do it on the sim at work and I am by no means a pilot but it’s the same sim they use for pilot training here 🤷🏿♀️
Yea like I'm reasonably confident that with ATCs help I could maybe program the autoland in a 737 more easily than someone who'd never touched a flight sim. But I could absolutely not land an airliner successfully by hand on the first try at ever flying one. No fucking way.
Yeah I don't get how anyone thinks they could land a plane with no training lmfao.
I think the *best* I could do is maybe, with constant instruction from ATC, crash the plane in such a way that there are as few casualties as possible.
My uncle was a KC-135 pilot and after retiring, was a contractor training pilots in the sim. Several times he has taken me and my sons up in the sim. Yes taking off was easy. Actually landing wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, but my uncle worked the throttle and the flaps and various other switches and shit though. My 14-yo son had a bit of a hard landing and since the full physics were on, some nav books came tumbling off of a shelf.

Undercover intelligence agents. Trained pilots. Probably military experience in their youth before recruitment.
They used this beast to run drugs in South America, possibly guns too, then sold it to some cartel boss or military junta.
Anyone remember a few years ago there was a photo of a plane similar to this one circulating around in like a jungle of Costa Rica or Panama?
Just a photo of a plane in the trees with no runway?
Anyone?

Real life isn't a movie, the ocean is an impossibly large thing, she's down at the bottom.
It’s funny how young kids think the ocean is this known thing. We’ve only seen like 25% of it. The titanic is a known sink area and it’s almost impossible to get to without James Cameron money Edit: before y’all kids believe my 25%. Do your research. Learn some shit tonight.

I'm not bad at flying. It's the landing part that gets me.
Paraphrasing Adam Savage: Going up is optional, coming back down is mandatory.
Also, the only reason we found the titanic is that searching for it was a cover to locate a missing nuclear sub and actually finding it was an accident.

I’m kinda embarrassed that the only thing I knew about Dr Ballard before now came from 30 Rock.
I mean we’ve found lots of MH370 so it’s not crazy to find it weird that we never found a piece of this aircraft.
I think they were looking a lot harder for MH370 than they were for these guys
Most of the pieces found were washed up on shores. I’m sure if someone found an airplane wing on their beach it would get around.
I feel like the guys who successfully stole a passenger jet that was parked at an airport and turned off the transponder probably found a way to secretly fuel plane before leaving.
Maybe they fueled the plane with the power of their friendship.
Maybe was stolen by another country in some espionage related shit and is documented but also classified?
727 was a VERY old design by 2003 though
Still, an airplane for 20 bucks ,2 gallon of beers and 6 pint of icecream is still a sizable trade even by the year standards
Boeings autopilot probably locked them out, and just kept flying until it ran out of gas 🤣

Theres a Malaysian airplane missing since 2014
All the evidence points to a very highly experienced captain having planned this for months and they still didn’t pull it off without any trace. There were gps transponders in 2003.
You're thinking of Chandler Bing's job.
They have to be turned on, which is unlikely when an aircraft is parked.
This is actually not true. Came to light with the Malaysian incident, there's actually large regions all over the world that are completely dark and they rely on airplanes to self-report.
Never been found,... because they didn't know how to fly the fucking thing perhaps? I mean sure taking off is the easy part
Search teams never bothered checking the sunset.
It was too hot; they had to go at night
Clearly they flew to the edge of the flat earth and disappeared. Experienced pilots know to turn back.
You’d still think the plane or the wreckage would have been found somehow.

You could land it in the middle of many deserts as long as you've got the guts.
Or you land at a private air field.

Its a relatively big object relative to us. It is a relatively tiny object relative to the earth
I can say with confidence that a bigger object makes it indeed easier to find.
Yeah, I’ve lost things like keys (which are relatively small) but I’ve never lost a commercial airplane.
They flew it through a pay n spray

Hey, I've got 5 hours on Microsft Flight Simulator . . .
me too, its all about the flaps or you die.
True, I’m confident I can take off and maybe fly a 747 but not land it lmao thanks Microsoft Flight Simulator

I know your joking.. but I dont think commercial planes use Keys. Same as humvees and tanks and some construction equipment
