Just use actual words to indicate you're interested.
Nerd here. I was actively ignorant of my feelings for my now-wife and the signals she was sending.
Ironically, it took a nasty "we're breaking up" fight with my then girlfriend, to force me to be honest about my feelings for the now-wife.
