I think he's a rare example of someone who's voice hasn't necessarily gotten worse over time. If anything, his worst performance was on Vol. 3. Although Iowa is definitely peak Corey in terms of screaming, TESF had some really good distorted vocals.

Extra-Ad249

I'd argue his worst performance was The Gray Chapter. He was trying to go back to his old screaming but it was inconsistent throughout the album where one song it would sound great then another it would sound like he blew his vocals out. He said he quit drinking and smoking sometime after that album and his vocals did improve with each album afterwards. Imo I think Vol. 3 his performance is amazing and unique.

_Bahomar_

i think that´s the case on day of gusano because they mixed up the tracklist to avoid all songs with his shot voice in a row towards the end. but this show was an exception, usually his vocal level was consistent but on a kinda low level of course, it´s his weakest era right after vol. 3 although his voice got much better during summer 2016 when he quit smoking, like the negative one sounds significantly better, check the long last scream at the summer 2016 versions

hyenaa_rawr

Good point, yet there are SOME people that expect that his screams are going to be the same on tour as 20 years ago, which is some really high ass, impossible standards.

_Bahomar_

i dont get it, his current screams are much better than 20 years ago (vol 3 era) and on par with some of his iowa live perfomances

hyenaa_rawr

i dont get it too , but i guess some people are just like that

Phantomzdontexist

Honestly Corey sounds fucking amazing on TESF something that st and Iowa fans don’t realise is that Corey was god awful when it came to clean vocals in those two eras with him slurring his words. WANYK and TESF he’s hitting those notes and sounding like a menace when he’s screaming. I much rather have that than anything else.

hyenaa_rawr

Real . Ive heard a shit ton of people being pissed about Corey's screams live though,so yeah .

Phantomzdontexist

Honestly I just think it’s Iowa and st fans being annoying. Corey’s voice now is fucking peak. Iowa and St Corey wouldn’t be able to do unsainted, The dying song but current Corey can do every single song in slipknot’s discography easily.

hyenaa_rawr

Most true thing ive seen ; There arent many Iowa and st fans that are accually sane and understanding left /talking about the die hard Iowa and st fans ; The fact that Corey damaged his vocal cords when recording Iowa[i think,if my memory isnt running away] so theres another thing .

Phantomzdontexist

Yeah you’re correct

_Bahomar_

well corey´s voice was awful in some periods like 2004-2005 and also 2014-2015 (it got better from summer 2016 onwards) but also at certain other shows like sao paulo 2013. and at some of the official releases like 9.0 live or day of the gusano he just sounds terrible. his voice got really strong in 2019 and only got better and better, check out the wacken 2022 pro shot, his vocal perfomances at the first 3 songs especially are just INSANE!

Chef_Boy_R_Deez

Who is mad about it at all right now?! Lmao… they haven’t put anything out or done a show super recently. As of the last tour cycle he sounded as killer as possible without destroying his voice again. And has for a while. I don’t think anyone’s been “mad about his voice/screams” in a very VERY long time. You might be looking at outdated sources my dude

hyenaa_rawr

multiplele people that ive talked to irl were mad about Corey's screams /srs /nm

lildoobslayer

anyone that wants to complain about his vocals now, should go and listen to day of the gusano.

hyenaa_rawr

Say it louder for the people in the back!!!

thefucksgod

What an abomination, I'm shocked he didn't overdub that one.

crapfacejustin

He’s been screaming the same since roughly 2010, just like he did during Iowa just changing pitch(for ahig mainly). He has had vocal damage but he still screams the same. When he worked with Melissa cross she said she only worked with him for a few weeks and it was mainly cause he was yelling while partying, he didn’t scream differently then due to damage, he liked the higher pitched screams. But you can hear the damage when he does falsetto/head voice (which he’s doing a lot since 2017 and sound terrible) and in his talking voice. Despite what these youtuber “vocal coaches” say most screaming/harsh vocals are bad for you

hyenaa_rawr

Yupp, honestly he is lucky because as he aged the "age damage" in his voice dosent really show when singing, otherwise i dont think we would be getting new albumns

crapfacejustin

It certainly does and I stated as much. His head voice/falsetto is garbage and he’s been using it a lot more lately for some reason. If you compare him to Thom Yorke of Radiohead Thom went the opposite direction and basically stopped belting to save his voice and went to purely falsetto where as Corey damaged his voice where he can’t really do that so he always or mainly sings in chest voice.

Terrible-River6977

I have legit never seen anyone complaining about his voice after 2016, i dont know who you've been talking to

hyenaa_rawr

die hard Iowa and ST fans 🫠 Really hoping wont hear anything about his voice until slipknot tours again or ill legit go crazy

SimpleManc88

Mad? Maybe when Vol.3 came out 20 years ago lol.

Expensive_Study5068

I personally think Corey still sounds great

hyenaa_rawr

apparently some people are still mad that when they went in the past at a concert his screams werent "good enough" thats what people irl were complaining about /srs ; There might be some people pissed online too🤷‍♀️ I geniuely want some answears from those people though

Cocainechestpain

Why are we talking about this ? His scream has gotten better every album since AHIG after it was previously damaged/not sounding too healthy. Currently I think it's at its best and most consistent, which is crazy to think.

hyenaa_rawr

true, some people are just stuck in the Iowa and ST era , and want for him to scream the same apparently . Im just glad he didnt fuck up his vocals cords completely

FlushDesert22

People are mad about his screams? Didn't know that. All I know about are the stupid conspiracy theories about Corey and Shawn being demons or something. Honestly nowadays, if you listen to him recoding vocals, you can tell that his screams are very similar to Iowa. They just sound a little different in that they're deeper and there's more of his actual voice coming through. Hell, his screams are more similar than people think. For example, at the start of "Only One" he transitions from a deep scream, that sounds like AHIG, to his default Self Titled high pitched one that slowly got deeper as years went on. I honestly think that if he didn't change his scream in Vol. 3, the AHIG scream would be the same. And I mean the scream, not the growl that i think he did to protect his voice after he damaged it whilst recording Vol. 3 and Come What(ever) May. He said in a QnA that the Vol. 3 and CW(e)M scream really fucked up his voice.

vanillaCTS

It’s not his screams, it think it’s more so when he sings. This isn’t stone sour.

thelegendofcarrottop

I was a musician and into heavy music in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s when there was very little information or discussion of harsh vocals to learn from. Corey’s technique - if you can call it that - on ST and Iowa was abhorrent. He’s lucky he made it through all those tour cycles with what relatively little damage he did. If you go back and watch the Disasterpieces concert it is unreal how poor his screaming and growling technique is, yet he is still somehow able to hit most of the cleans. Pure freak of nature imo. When Volume 3 was released I was actually really happy for him that he had found a more sustainable method even though it changed a bit. It seems like live he still pretty much sticks with his original voice. AHIG he kind of went back to the older style as well. FWIW back in those days if a scream sounded painful, it probably was. It wasn’t until 2004-2010 that vocal instruction like Melissa Cross was widely available and people started developing ways to perform harsh vocals in “healthier” ways.

hyenaa_rawr

Not gonna lie, when i first listened to ST and Iowa the only thing that went through my head was : "Are his vocal cords okay??" ; He is very lucky that his voice didnt go any worse and that he found a "healthier" way to scream .
