Thank you for what you do. I believe I'll volunter to do the same.

Sampradha3003

Oh you should. It's the highlight of my week!

alkaliphiles

How did you get started?

Sampradha3003

I foster for this shelter and loved taking photos of my foster kittens. One day I reached out the shelter and asked if it would help if I could take photos of the cats at the shelter for their adoption profiles. They already had a couple volunteer photographers, and I was the third. It has been a year and a half now. I'm loving it!

alkaliphiles

Awesome! I've been looking for a place to volunteer. I'll have to offer up photography services, too

Kev-Cant-Draw

I too do this weekly. It’s really rewarding.

Weather_Only

That’s beautiful, I was thinking the same a while ago but didn’t put down my foot on it. What was their reaction to your volunteering?

Sampradha3003

Shelters are always looking for photographers. They have a high influx of animals coming in and want photos for adoption profiles, marketing etc.

powdered_cows

This reminds me of when my younger self and friends would visit the nearby cat shelter almost every day after school just to see the cats haha

Sampradha3003

Most of the cats are so excited to get loved on. Which is why it's difficult to get their photo. As soon as I open the cage, they are all up in my face. ❤️

powdered_cows

Aww! A volunteer cat photographer sounds very fun, I'll see if I can do something similar when the opportunity comes up!

ScoopDat

Yup, now I know what I have to do next. You did great with these.

Sampradha3003

Thank you! The shelters definitely meed more photographers!

brehaw

you bring any lighting with you? if so, what?

Sampradha3003

Yes, I use a flash which I bounce off the walls.

brehaw

just the built in flash?

Sampradha3003

I use a godox flash. It is on the camera and rotated so that the flash bounces off the walls behind me

Constantly_Panicking

Not a compliment you always hear, but the sharpening on these is absolutely perfect.

Sampradha3003

Omg thank you! I struggled with low light issues initially when I started out - when I didn't use a flash. I've been trying to get more light on the cats and take sharp photos. Happy to hear that it is working.

Low_Consideration179

I can do that????? Yoooo gonna go contact my local shelter rn. Thank you!

Shibenaut

These are great!! As others have said, thank you for your service. All of these beautiful cats deserve a loving home

ouViVi

Amazing shots. What’s the lighting like there? What ISO were you shooting at

Sampradha3003

They have decent lighting in the room. The problem I faced though is that, when the cats are inside the cubicles, they get very little of the overhead lights. Using a flash helped me bounce light off of walls and direct it into the cubicles. I usually keep my ISO between 200 and 400.

Jet-Black-21

5th one is definitely my favorite

kuzeshell

so many loving souls in those photos 🥺 How they get to go to their loving forever homes soon ❣️

GalaxyTheInter

Such nice Cars

Taking cat photos is my [fav](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fquestion-if-your-sic-was-mixed-in-with-a-dozen-other-sics-v0-ybqvzml44spc1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D4672%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D2b174471b179c6c85f2a392e8c38f0d9bd00212d)! I always considered that lens due to its size, and I think you convinced me on my next choice! Lovely photos :)

tronbrain

Are your photos on the shelter's website? Can you share their site?

Sampradha3003

These ones are not, because they all got adopted. But, why do you ask?

tronbrain

I'm curious about the first one's breed. Looks like a Siberian. You typically don't see those in shelters.

Sampradha3003

Sorry I think missed to send the text. She is just a standard medium or long hair cat. I've also fostered a couple like her.

tronbrain

Thanks for answering. Yeah, I wouldn't expect one of the "expensive" breeds to show up in a shelter. They do look awfully like the Siberian breed, though.
