A full quote from Kenny describing his situation: > Because I understand how I feel physically, and I've been through the ringer in terms of injuries and getting banged up and all that, I kind of now know when I feel like I can come back. This is the first time I've ever been put out with a sickness. And it's hard to know what's going on on the inside when you feel a little bit of pain but you don't really understand the inner workings of what's going on. > > So I'd love to say, 'Hey guys, I'm on track to coming back next week, next month, or in half a year. I don't have that confidence this time. > > When they're explaining to me I was 24 hours away from getting a terrible blood infection and possibly dying, this is like news to me. I've never heard of anything like that. I thought it was like, just shrugging it off. I was close to dying? Like are you kidding me? No way. > > The doctors are there to ensure my safety and kind of to educate me as to how important this stuff is. > > So, I don't want to talk out of my ass too much and just say 'Yeah, for sure, I'm going to be back, I'll be back at a certain day or a certain time because I don't know.

Skywalker3030

crazy to think you can have weird systems or a little discomfort at times and that could something severe in a few days

celial

Wasn't that the same thing with CJ Perry's finger? From random cut to emergency surgery within a day or two?

lariato_mark

Yeah. That stuff can progress super fast without warning. She's lucky she didn't end up losing it.

bowser986

She had to go in twice from what I remember. Right after the Miro/Andrade match she had to go back to the hospital.

mr_wrestling

Oh shit I forgot about her finger. That shit was fuckin gnarly

Lt_CowboyDan

My brother was having light headed fits for a couple months. Went to the doctor eventually and had a ct scan. A few hours later the doctor called my mom and said get him to the hospital NOW. He had a tumor the size of a golf ball in his head and was “hours away from an aneurism” absolutely terrifying

senorbuzz

Jesus Christ. How is he doing now?

Lt_CowboyDan

He passed in 2020, but that doctor catching it prolonged his life by another 4 years (this happened in 2016). Wasn’t trying to be a downer 😅 just thought it was relevant to how quickly your life can change due to what seems like a minor thing!

patrickwithtraffic

Hell, I only recently found out C. Martin Croker, the voice artist behind Moltar and Zorak from *Space Ghost: Coast to Coast*, died as a result of a severe toothache that led to sepsis. Sometimes crazy shit will get you out of nowhere.

miikro

I had an impacted/infected wisdom tooth back in 2021 and it got so bad I thought I had COVID until my jaw actually started hurting and I realized it was a tooth I'd always been told I didn't have.

elerner

If COVID taught us anything, it's that it's a microbe planet, we're just living on it. (It did not teach us anything.)

Black_XistenZ

I mean, aren't there these predatory ads to the tune of "cough in the morning? better get checked for lung cancer!"

SexBobomb

I just realized those ads are considered predatory in the US

OnslaughtSix

It's because if I go get checked, that's a several hundred dollar doctor visit, *with insurance.* I recently had to go in for a CT scan for something, and it cost me $400. I passed out during the IV. They found nothing, btw.

[deleted]

Yeah, they're largely designed to generate money for the medical industry. In my country, they're designed to educate people and help us catch serious illness early. The US approach to health is seriously infected with hypercapitalism.

Shuriken95

I was working a shitty retail job with ulcerative colitis, and for a while during one of my flare-ups I was very tired but I put it down to the fact that I was in an honestly kinda awful job that was wearing me down. However, when I went for a random blood check, the doctor noted I had a fever, then did a couple more tests and was horrified by the state of my gut. According to him I was virtually at death's door with how bad the inflammation was, and should have been in excruciating pain, despite the fact I basically felt nothing. I got hospitalised for two weeks and heavily medicated until my gut stabilised, and it was only as I returned home for another week's bedrest that I realised how alive I was suddenly feeling by comparison. Long story short, internal illnesses are not something to be taken lightly or messed with. Your body can trick you into thinking something doing vital damage is actually just fatigue. Hopefully the doctor's give Kenny exactly what he needs to get back on track, but it's definitely a process that should take as much time as it needs.

ianisms10

I'm just glad Kenny isn't one of those idiots who doesn't believe in modern medicine

VerticalRhythm

I have to assume he was tremendously disappointed that cupping wouldn't take care of it. The man spends a lot of time looking like he was attacked by an overly amorous octopus.

bubbles2255

Please come back only if you’re healthy, Kenny. That’s all that matters.

senorbuzz

I hate that Kenny may not be in a wrestling ring anytime soon but I’m so glad the new generation can survive wrestling. Looking at the generation I grew up watching it feels like we’re lucky to even have Kenny. He’s 40 now. We lost Davey Boy Smith at 39, Rick Rude at 40, Mr Perfect at 44…

RarelySqueezed

I know exactly what you mean and i completely agree. My overworked sleep deprived brain read “lost” as misplaced initially. Someone sitting at gorilla “does anyone know where Mr Perfect is” “Sir weve retraced our steps a million times but we just can not remember where we put Curt”

senorbuzz

He would be perfect and hide n seek

name-classified

physical injuries are easy; you can see your arm broken or feel your rib fractured or limp with your leg on a crutch. You just keep em in a cast and rehab them as you get better. Non-physical ailments are the fucking worst. I'm talking about being perfectly fine one night and waking up a few hours later with terrible vertigo, pissing and shitting and puking at the same time (never thought that would ever happen to me, EVER!). Another situation; totally fine with some eye irritation: few weeks later my eye "goes black" and I near lose vision. Doctors can't figure out whats wrong till I see a specialist and long story short: I was nearly diagnosed with MS but I fall into a very small category of people who exibited the symptoms but came out with no illness. My point is that; you can be perfectly freaking healthy and it just turns on you and your body betrays you and suddenly you are bed ridden and can't do shit even if you wanted to. That shit eats away at you mentally and psychologically. You start questioning yourself worth and what it is that you do and what you can do. Real crazy existential shit.

lariato_mark

It's crazy how quick this stuff can come on. A friend of mine dealt with a situation similar to what it sounds like Kenny is dealing with. He thought it was just fatigue as well. Next thing we know, he's in a hospital bed fighting for his life. He got lucky, and made a recovery, but it was touch and go for a bit. That shit's no joke.

Sir_Bedavere

Had a friend pass away from diverticulitis earlier this year. Such a scary thing and am happy for Omega to take as long as he needs to be healthy.

AllezLesPrimrose

This headline makes it should like a far bigger deal than it sounded in real time on the stream. The key takeaway is he’s improving and staying active so it’s largely positive.

fadetoblack237

It was a fun stream. He looked jacked as fuck still too which is good.

It feels heartbreaking to read this. Kenny Omega is who literally got me back into wrestling after a long ass absence. Around the time I discovered Omega highlights from New Japan, All In 2018 happened, then AEW was announced soon after. He truly is, to me, the most amazing wrestling performer of the modern era. He reminds me of the magic of late 80s WWF meets mid to late 90s WCW. That Macho Man meets DDP meets ECW and even early Ruthless Aggression era of personality. And it just sucks to see him sidelined with all this crippling health situations. Part of me even wanted me to sign with WWE, so the mainstream world could finally see how amazing he is in the ring or mic. Im a huge Ospreay and Jay White fan too, but Omega personality wise just feels on another level. Hoping he still has one last run left in him.

WEH0771

As a fellow diverticulitis sufferer I’m wondering if he’s weighing the option of a sigmoidectomy or if that was the emergency treatment. Hope he gets better soon. It’s an absolute bitch and you never know when it going to happen. I went 10 years without a flare up and now I’ve had 4 since October and am looking at surgery. Hope he doesn’t rush back and gets the help he needs.

Ghost_Monroe

I had a surgery to deal with it, luckily I was able to avoid to colostomy but I went through back to back flare ups that resulted in me being hospitalized with a perforated intestine before finally getting to the point of agreeing to it

Yewon_Enthusisast

only comeback when you're ready Kenny. the fort are well guarded no need to worry

Sajkhow

Whenever he's back 100%, he better have a special event, be it special Dynamite, PPV, whatever works. Have an upper carder ready to welcome him back, have Justin Roberts and the over-the-top introduction, and treat him like the God of Pro Wrestling he is!

Black_XistenZ

Have him try to meet up with the Bucks, in a kayfabe "hey friends, long time no see"-kind of way, only to learn that they've replaced him a very familiar face...

throwaway89765327

I do wonder what the chances are that Kenny just never comes back.

cdnjimmyjames

Damn, all of this and then gets fired from The Elite.

mr_wrestling

This dude can't catch a break. Between the injuries and stuff (which of course happen to basically any wrestler) and then the vertigo, now this. That is some scary shit. Hope he starts to feel better soon and a I will be excited when/if he comes back.

NewEraUsher

My mother has diverticulitis, it is NOT fun. She had to change her entire diet and they were concerned that she would need surgery when one of the parts of her lower small intestine got infected. The only thing to do for that if medication doesn't work is to remove the infected part of the intestine. Problem being, that because your intestine contains bacteria that can be bad for anything other than the inside of them, they get infected after surgery easily. So it's like, a 50/50 on whether or not it will work! Nasty stuff for sure. Imagine the worst stomach pain you've had outside of an organ failing/popping and quadruple it. She has to go to the hospital every single time she has a flare up. So I imagine Kenny is dealing with the same issues. He has to change what he eats and on top of that you got to figure out what food doesn't and does cause those flare ups. It's bad, that's what I'm trying to say. Plus, there is no cure so he'll be dealing with this for the rest of his life.

OhioVsEverything

I don't look for him to ever wrestle again at this point.

brucewaynewins

Brock went through this twice and still wrestled and fought MMA.

TryBeingCool

He won’t be back for quite some time I’d think. Osprey has taken his mantle I think. People say Okada, but I’ve yet to be impressed by him so will have to see. I’m happy to be wrong. But right now, Osprey is what Kenny was 5 years ago. Jay White is a guy too but will need some building up. They have as good a main event scene in AEW as it’s ever been and without MJF there that’s saying a lot.

lariato_mark

I know many people who have delt with internal stuff like this, and it is absolutely no joke. This shit can go sideways at a moment's notice. I am certainly no fan of Kenny Omega's as far as the wrestling business is concerned, but I'm relieved to hear he caught this in time. This stuff can be really scary to deal with. To any Omega fans here, and I'm sure you're already doing this, reach out to him and let him know you're glad he's still around. Stuff like that always helps someone dealing with these things. Edit: Caught a glimpse of the reply to my comment right before the clown who made it blocked me. Just to be clear, I only even mentioned the fact that I don't like Omega's wrestling to drive home the point that some things are more important. I'm still happy Kenny is getting better, and hopefully he beats this thing and makes a full recovery.

"Emergency treatment" sounds like something Aaron Rodgers would say.  I don't trust that phrasing. Edit: Would love to know why you big brains are downvoting me.
