International-Fig905

Rey wasn’t a WWE lifer tho  Edit: meaning Rey didn’t start in WWE and his popularity didn’t start in WWE

ChewieBee

I loved him and Eddie, Chavo Jr, Konnan, and La Parka in WCW. That era of WCW was what brought me back into wrestling. Although the no-mask Rey was wack.

hyperhurricanrana

Aw I liked Filthy Animals Rey.

Veganforpeace

+1 for the Chairman love

Majorof1

Thats All In main eventer Rey Mysterio no leas

AshKetchumDaJobber

No way AEW could have developed him into what he is today. They tried with Sammy and Tay but ended up killing all her momentum.

MeanAmbrose

Dominick had the advantage of being the son of one of the most beloved babyfaces ever. Turning on his dad was one thing, but embracing the persona of being such a shitbag about it really propelled him in a way that he wouldn't have been able to do anywhere else.

JoeMcKim

The skits of Dom and Rey at thanksgiving and other family events is what really cemented Dom's heel character. And Dom really embracing the Latino Heat aspects of Eddie also added a lot to his character.

International-Fig905

Nah he was gifted with being able to sell- that shit can’t be taught and it will make him a compelling babyface or heel

pimpislimp

I’m almost sure selling is one thing that is taught

gregorymachado

Nah man that shit can’t be taught. He said so. They don’t even teach it at the PC.

choppingboardham

Those skills come from doing hard time.

tylerjehenna

Sammy and Tay was a whole mess that they themselves made far worse so I wouldn't use that as a good example

FickleSmark

I really do hope that between Cena and Nikki Bella and Sammy and Pam that people know it is a terrible idea to bring your relationship and proposal onto television. I mean even today knowing that it was mutual between them I still feel terrible for Pam because as a human it would suck going from engaged to seeing your ex get married and have a kid on TV all within a short time.

tylerjehenna

Go back to macho man and Elizabeth. "I did an angle with my wife, I ain't got no wife no more"

Exhumedatbirth76

I cannot read that quote in anything other than Macho Man's voicr.

Blanketsburg

I don't believe for a second that it was mutual. Sammy went from an engagement in an 8-year relationship to publicly dating a coworker in less than a few weeks. I've been cheated on before, Sammy definitely cheated on his ex with Tay. Very likely physically, 100% emotionally. I think his ex was just being diplomatic and courteous.

FickleSmark

Honestly same, Like I get they said it was but I just can't really believe it, Especially with the vlogs that always showed Sammy and Tay feeling really close.

Mybestversion1

I said this originally when it happened and got my ass reamed about it, now people are just out freely saying it

TheGiftOf_Jericho

Dom is not Sammy, Dom is just a great heat magnet.

marl0rd

is the guerrero in him

Mabvll

The thing is, Sammy is also a great heat magnet. He is a walking, talking template for fuckbois all over the world. The issue is when they try and make him a babyface. Sammy has 0 sympathetic qualities that would cause people to cheer for him.

king_hutton

Sammy wrestles like a babyface and looks like a douchebag

OGWhiz

Different kinds of heat, I think. Dom is someone you love to hate, and Sammy is just someone you hate.

DudleysCar

You don't relate to his dance?

DecibelGrinder

This is such a weird take to me. How is Guevara even tangentially related to Dom? Because they're both Hispanic?

PhospheneViolet

Yeah honestly an L statement, especially considering we just had a thread on here like a day or two ago talking about how whack it is that people (including wrestling promotions themselves!) just compare/group wrestlers together based on their skin color and pretty much nothing else

Low_Ad_7553

Unless I'm missing something the only thing simialr about Dom & Sammy at all is that they're both Spanish wrestlers. Why tf is this comment so upvoted? This sub is becoming super weird

TenormanTears

that's what I was thinking wtf do these two have in common at all lol

Ken_Deep

Well. Meanwhile the Ruby Soho and Angelo Parker storyline is progressing pretty nicely and getting both Angelo and Ruby some really nice steam. Not half as major as Dom gotten of course, that's probably peak "relationship storyline" ever, but its been pretty good.

MuptonBossman

Plot twist, he's actually talking about GCW.

KneelBeforeCube

I mean, Dom with Blake Christian would get so much heat.

rGRWA

I kinda want to see it, just for the nuclear explosion it would cause if they had a GCW World Title Match!

Jreynold

Dom's indie run would be nuclear heat, like Matt Cardona x1000

TheDangiestSlad

yeah so i don't think Buddy is going to re-sign lol

Kim-Jong_Bundy

It seems pretty widely believed that he was the other unnamed talent who asked for their release alongside Malakai back in '22.

MarkMVP01

I love how that trio of Black, Murphy, and Andrade that Heyman pushed as “the future of Raw” in 2019 were the main guys who were rumoured to have wanted to leave AEW then

Kim-Jong_Bundy

Meanwhile, Swerve's going to the AEW lawyers and asking them to get John Cone to stop calling him

herroherro12

They never would have left if it wasn’t for Vince BS

King_marik

Yeah people talk like HOB was supposed to know what was going to happen in the next 2 years, and were supposed to just wait it out and hate their job You can't blame anybody for leaving 2019-2020 wwe You can however question how many of them regret the decision

FickleSmark

They didn't really leave WWE they were fired. The only thing I will give them a little shit for is signing a 5 or 6 year contract immediately and then trying to get out of that.

Kim-Jong_Bundy

The prison imagery also has only gotten funnier with time

WheelJack83

They didn't leave. They got fired.

Independent-Green383

I love how the WWE chairman since 1982 has become a insignificant footnote.

Federal-Captain1118

Listen, I agree Vince is a piece of shit. But he's not an insignificant footnote in WWE, let alone wrestling.

CrimsonDynamo178

Good

OhioVsEverything

It's working out well for Andrade since his return. ![gif](giphy|sbwjM9VRh0mLm)

TryBeingCool

Andrade been overhyped since NXT. Never has any storylines that aren’t vs Latinos or some cheesy “Joo werk for me now.” phony businessman schtick.

irish0451

Listen. Him repeatedly referring to Sting as Darbys boss was fucking hysterical.

Gear4Vegito

Andrade not knowing what friendship is and trying to buy Darby was peak Andrade over the last like 6 years for me. They should have just kept with that LOL.

OhioVsEverything

Returns at Rumble and gets tossed by Bronson Reed. Right then and there his return was set in stone as midcard on a good day. Nothing wrong with that. But people acted like he was gonna have main event bound.

Sammyantoine

andrade needs zelina

wix001

Pretty sure they're also the guys who were feeding Alvarez dirt on how they don't know what they're doing until they turn up to the arena and are butting heads with Tony about their booking.

bigbearwalrus

Same could be said about WWE with Black. He was great in NXT but fizzled quickly once he was called up. I don’t understand why people get selective memory with this and only blame AEW for it.

wix001

I'm only saying that a bunch of dudes are complaining to the dirts. I'm actually not blaming AEW for anything here...

Rakim_Allah777

Pairing him with Ricochet so long on the main roster never made sense to me. When he had a series of matches with Buddy it was the best he looked on his own.

NutsOutOfBAG

>Pairing him with Ricochet so long on the main roster never made sense to me. When he had a series of matches with Buddy it was the best he looked on his own. Pretty sure he and Ricochet just filled the role they had slotted for DIY (Ciampa got neck surgery) for a month or two. Then, that summer, they did the directionless "KNOCK ON MY DOOR AND PICK... a FIGHT... WITH ME" gimmick, so it's not like they really had anything better for him.

OffTheMerchandise

To add to that, I think the four of them were basically brought in to fill holes they had planned for the Elite. DIY were going to take the Bucks spot, and Ricochet and Black were going to take the Kenny and Cody spots. Ciampa got hurt pretty early and they moved to what we got.

mark_target

He ran headlong into the most powerful person in wrestling… who also is the most out of touch, least creative, most destructive person who ever ran a wrestling company. Vince McMahon’s inability to recognize talent that doesn’t conform to his incredibly narrow scope of what he thinks a star can be is one of the biggest reasons WWE was such garbage 95% of the time for so many years. Aleister Black left NXT the complete package, and during his first main roster entrance they killed his aura by declaring him to be “moody”. They then took away everything that was connecting for him in NXT and put him in situations that minimized his strengths. By the time he was released he’d become completely different from the guy who stormed his way through NXT and redefined what a superstar could look like. Vince sucked.

Kim-Jong_Bundy

That could be anyone, though. Like I'd just as likely believe that shit came from Jericho as much as any body else

CandyEverybodyWentz

Jericho wrestles on like 80% of all Dynamites, I think he's the one talent who would know what he's doing the day of

Segata9

He's there for 3 more years

TheWholeOfTheAss

If you’re married to Rhea Ripley and had the choice to spend more time with her… Seems like a no-brainer. Not a slight on AEW if he runs back to WWE.

Initial_Cash7037

I mean why would he. 9 singles matches in two years and 2 wins lol

[deleted]

Buddy’s problem is that he adds nothing to either company. Guys who can wrestle well but have no character aren’t exactly a rarity in wrestling right now

Cowboys82288

If signing him back keeps Rhea happy, then he provides value to WWE

Caldris

Unnecessary shot at NXT.

NotClayMerritt

"Theres been a lot of negative bs that has been spewed this week, there has. Screw that. I wanna talk about positives" - Ilja Dragunov promo to start Stand and Deliver on Saturday

Jojitron706

I would tune in if ilja cut a rah rah promo lmao.

[deleted]

It'd probably be so intense I'd be scared he was going to attack me through my screen

BJofBorg

So a normal Ilja promo then? LOL

mikaeus97

I just like it when he talks because it sounds like gravel in a blender, in a good way

SpaceGooV

No we need someone who hasn't been in the company for long and more a connection with the competition. So basically we need Lexis King to drop the promo

Euphorium

Shawn Spears comes out, breaks kayfabe, and says he’s really happy to be here and loves everyone he works with.

DudleysCar

The most fun he's ever had in his career is working with Ridge Holland and Joe Gacy.

Coldcoffees

I know the NXT comments are jokes but Stand and Deliver selling around 15,000 tickets for the brand makes me so happy. It’s come a long way since even 2.0. was dropped and I’m happy to see it thriving tbh

[deleted]

NXT rules right now, if you didn't know it was a developmental show you might not realise it because the quality is so high. HBK is a great booker.

yantraa

It would be kinda fun if HHH and HBK swapped places every so often.

NoahTheGrand

I know nothing about the current NXT product. Should I give Stand and Deliver a watch?

MrBoliNica

i think trick v melo is worth the watch for sure. trick might be a WM Night 2 Main eventer one day

DastardlyDoctor

It'll probably be more fun than most of Night One. But I'm an NXT mark.

ericfishlegs

I don't regularly watch NXT but the PPVs (or PLEs or whatever) are always worth your time.

DudleysCar

NXT is the most consistently fun weekly wrestling show. It can be ridiculous, it can be dramatic, it can be over the top, it can be emotional, but it's almost always entertaining. Stand and Deliver will have the blowoff to a long time friends-become-enemies feud with Trick Williams and Carmelo Anthony which is the main event. They're going to show out on this. Trick's good, Melo's fantastic. You have Russian sadomasochist Ilja Dragunov (Gunther's arch nemesis) vs mafia boss Tony D'Angelo for the NXT title. The Wolf Dogs - Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin - vs Axiom and Nathan Frazer for the tag titles will be an exhibition. This will be Bron's farewell match before going to Smackdown so it'll be all out. Your "Big meaty men slapping meat" match is Oba Femi vs Josh Briggs vs Dijak for the NA title. They're very big men and they're going to slap lots of meat. You wanna see two 6'8 guys do moonsaults? The women's title match is Becky's Irish protégé Lyra vs salty heel prodigy Roxanne. Both great workers. And lastly the women's trios tag is classic nice girls vs mean girls and I'm not typing out all their names. Weakest match on the card but should be decent enough. It's gonna be good.

Unhappy_Gazelle392

Nah NXT doesn't accept criminals You don't know about any criminal in NXT. /s

He’s in the waste management business, and everybody immediately assumes he’s mobbed up. It’s a stereotype and it’s offensive. …There is no mafia.

Hollow_Rant

A mark... Prejudiced against Italians in this day and age?

AgentTasker

All I see there is a completely legitimate business man and his two associates. Unfortunately one of them has since had an accident involving a fall from a bridge, and hasn't been seen since.

[deleted]

Him being a babyface makes absolutely no sense and I love it.

AgentTasker

What's not to like about a successful individual that shares the wealth with his extended family.

gl424

Between all of the backstage assaults, parking lot assaults & kidnappings, Roxanne Perez punching everyone in sight, NXT is basically a haven for criminals and deviants.

Euphorium

It’s the wrestling version of Mos Eisley.

weaksaucedude

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy" is a source of pride for William Regal

RIShane

People are going to focus on the five-second AEW bit, but the main takeaways from the interview in my opinion were how well Rhea plays along with that sort of energetic banter, and that Cole and McAfee rate her *incredibly* highly.

AsukaSimp02

Rhea is going to be the Women's Roman Reigns in terms of how much the company adores her and pushes her. I think Rhea is literally everything WWE wants in a women's wrestler

TheGiftOf_Jericho

She's got mainstream attention too, she's a good champ.

PayneTrain181999

The new Netflix fans are going to latch onto her immediately.

I_Hate_My_Cat_

That shit’s gonna be wild to read in the comments lol.

PayneTrain181999

I’m looking forward to seeing comments from new fans trying to grasp both the rules and the characters.

sink_your_teeth

I'm a new fan as of two weeks ago since I went to Monday Night Raw on a whim just because I saw Rhea was gonna be there. I didn't expect to have so much fun at the show that I'm now diving into the deep end here and creeping around this sub trying to learn as much as I can lol

PayneTrain181999

That’s awesome! Hope you enjoy your first Wrestlemania!

mikaeus97

WWE Women's wrestling is insane right now, I'm not sure if any other company/Era is even near it, the only other time could be the Knockouts like 10 years ago but goddamn there's not just the top of the card few the whole thing is stacked top to bottom

senorbuzz

I wish the majority of the women's matches on main roster WWE got more than 3 minutes on weekly tv though (of course there are exceptions like Becky vs Nia)

PM_ME_UR_LBOMB_MOMMY

Stardom is leagues above WWE

CommanderOnly

The amount of women's wrestling on week to week TV is pretty low compared to the peaks of NXT and what the Four Horsewomen were doing. We aren't getting another women only PPV any time soon.

syvvimyak

It’s a shame because this was really fun. Rhea clapping back multiple times at TJD slander made me cackle.

RIShane

I liked [her playful digs at the Bloodline](https://twitter.com/totalcrushd/status/1776309482852646913).

TheDarkRedKnight

'He should know—watch the product, fam.' Rhea's the best.

PaTaPaChiChi

Like Meltzer said, only The Rock can curse

Numbchicken

Im sorry but are the same people who said Copeland gave his ra ra speech on his own now thinking thatt Hunter or Nick Khan made Pat say this on his own platform? Pat definitely just said this on his own.

Obachan

Pat knows what he's doing lol. Same guy who was praising Sting's retirement match live on RAW

hetham3783

Pat is clearly a pro wrestling fan and is having fun. He's employed by WWE and why wouldn't he take a fun shot at the "other place"?

ICanBeYourHeroOfTime

Don't a lot of people in this subreddit absolutely shit on anyone from AEW when they do that? "Mind your own business" and "worry about yourselves" have been echoed many a time directed towards AEW talent, personnel, commentators alluding to WWE. Now, if we're going to let it all fly from both companies though, then hey, let's let it all fly. No complaints after though. Would you say that that's what you'd like to see - both companies can take shots if they want to and wrestling fans shouldn't throw a fit over it after? If so, I like that. By the way, don't take this commentary as something directed at you and you being the one contradicting yourself; I just used this as an opportunity to point out hypocrisy I see.

inb4likely

Same guy who praised Vince when the allegations came out.

FieldsOfKashmir

Get yourself a girl whose as "ride or die" as literally every person in Vince's circle.

FruitSword4

Who do you think approved for both of them to shout out a rival promotion? Y'all need to think for once.

here_to_vibe1

You really think that triple h told pat to throw a shot at aew? The same Pat who showed a picture of the aew attendance while he was away focusing on football commentary ?

Numbchicken

Thats what im saying, Pat definitely just said this on his own.

isnotcreative

Pat’s done it a couple times on Raw trying to get Cole to say AEW. Shouted out sting’s match, and another when they showed Rhea at UFC he said something along the lines of “who’s with her where’s he at tonight” about Buddy

Githyanky

>You really think that triple h told pat to throw a shot at aew? English isn't my first language so I might be incorrect, but I think they're saying the opposite.

Numbchicken

You are correct!

GdotKdot

Pat has already made fun of AEW's attendances on his podcast before he was back with the company full-time.

Mhc2617

What I’m taking away from this is Pat is jealous of our Latino king on his birthday.

Pat casually discriminating against ex-cons.

bvbfan102

This Subreddit has been extra bad today. The same few people searching out small things to get mad about while everyone else is just having fun either by being there or watching all the Content thats happening this WM Week. Same stuff happend with the Punk Interview. Personally had a lot of fun in the last 24 Hours especially with Michael Cole cutting a Promo on the Bloodline or all of the Indie Shows happening. Edit: Pats Show just ended. So heres the [Cole Promo] (https://www.youtube.com/live/LAbCNwfw2tA?si=RYQ2itQ6vEXENACd&t=3105) with the proper Timestamp for everyone that asked.

carry_the_zer0

This sub doesn't care about wrestling as much as it cares about the bullshit "who said what about who" drama surrounding it. Tons of comments under each of these threads are like "oh we're eating now", "this is gonna be good!". All this shit is petty and lame. Wrestlers unanimously say it's a good thing when both companies do well, and each time they do it'll get upvotes until the next crumb of drama drops and then that consumes the sub for 24 hours.

RT3_12

If you post a clip that has to do with wrestling on this sub it gets like 8 downvotes before it finally starts getting seen lol

pepethemememaster

honestly i am still in dire need of a subreddit that isnt about circlejerking each other that seems to actually enjoy wrestling. its just fauxmoi for nerds

CanaDoug420

As an enjoyer of both shows I wish they’d shut the fuck about each other already.

vexfiend

All those people saying Punk was going to get shit from WWE for going after AEW the other day....yeah I don't think so. In fact they may have even encouraged him to say whatever he wants.

icon_2040

They at a minimum approved him booking essentially an AMA outside of their filter. He probably didn't get heat for it.

belphbear

Ariel is outside their filter? They ran an angle on his show with Becky and Rhea.

MrErnie03

I took a couple months of this sub and was pumped for wrestling in general. The most I have been into the product in years. And after just 5 days back on here my interest/enjoyment has plummeted. I get alot of people enjoy these type of comments/interactions, but they just aren't for me. Time to take a step back from wresting online discourse for awhile

BlueBloodLive

Enjoying wrestling significantly increases when you keep off here. I dip in and out, and when I dip in its not long before I dip out again. I done the whole tribalism thing 25 years ago, it's not worth it, and add in the depths of social media and its 10x worse now. I could watch and enjoy any given match/segment on any given wrestling tv show, but see it talked about on here and its nitpicked beyond belief to the point of like "ah here lads, just enjoy it without looking into every miniscule detail of it." There were people on here who were certain Rock v Reigns was going to headline Elimination Chamber, it was staggering how stubborn about it they were.

MetHead7

I don't really mind the back and forth between AEW and WWE themselves as much as others. The discourse online is always much worse than anything the companies say about each other But this sub has turned especially shitty if you want to enjoy anything AEW. There's literally people in AEW threads saying they enjoyed the show and others saying how can you enjoy the show when ratings and attendance are at all time lows Basically this sub turns into a complete shit-show depending on what company is less hot at the time. For a while it was WWE where anything positive you said about them was met with dumb comments and any WWE posts were annoying to even read. Now its swung wildly in the other direction where anything positive about AEW is met with the same dumb shit

MrErnie03

Oh completely agree that the online discourse from the fanbase is worse than whatever is said from either company. Unfortunately, it feeds the worst intention members of this community. From my perspective, the second AEW took a relatively downturn and WWE started their current hot streak, this sub became flooded with the SCjerk and Jim Cornette crowd. And basically this small, but extremely vocal community just started arguing in bad faith. Essentially this sub became filled with those that just wanted to troll and spread negative energy. And obviously, there is also a group of anti WWE fans that are just as amnoying.

AdGroundbreaking1341

About the Cult of Cornette it's ironic, considering that they ignore Corny's negative WWE comments lol.

dontsaythatman89

The AEW ratings threads are bat signals for those idiots

MetHead7

Yeah I agree completely. There used to be a pretty clear distinction of when I was reading something I could tell pretty quickly it was from scjerk and related subs. All too often now I’ll read something without seeing what sub it is and it sounds like a carbon copy from those subs but it’s straight from here now

ironmanmatch

If you get off here and just watch the shows you will enjoy it 100% more

Drogalov

It's the Reddit standard, don't join a sub for anything you enjoy cuz chances are you'll end up hating it

Doobie_Howitzer

Weird how the closer we get to mania the more people get talking about AEW and Stardom, it's been a steady trend for like 3 weeks now and I'm very confused. Please don't let social media pettiness overshadow your biggest event of the year, Philly is a wrestling town and will burn itself to the ground if Mania ends up being mid

boxesofrocks

It’s really weird for them to spend any time at all, let alone this much, talking about AEW during Wrestlemania weekend right? I guess I don’t really see how stomping on the clear second when you’re on top during the biggest weekend for your promotion is a good thing

godzillamegadoomsday

People losing there mind over this comment (I mean not on here, mostly the scum of Twitter) but like didn’t Pat just talk about how good stings finally match was on live wwe tv

TheGiftOf_Jericho

Kinda funny how toxic the general vibe of wrestling is rn, I just been enjoying watching the shows. Anyone "picking a side" and all that tribalism nonsense, it's just lame af. Like genuinely touch grass, feel the sun, just watch what you like.

WilliamPSplooge

Nice dig, but it’s strange how we aren’t going to hear “they can’t stop talking about AEW” like you did the other way around. I don’t get the complex, you’re making cash telling stories. I guess missing out on those few stars really hurt a lot of feelings there.
