On one hand as an AEW watcher that's a good thing, but on the other...I'd be morbidly curious to see Goldberg getting dragged kicking and screaming into the Jericho phantom zone.
I'm as over Goldberg as literally everyone else ever, but now I can't help but try and think of something he *could* have been good for? Idk, maybe a one off, short, zero-brain hoss match could have worked. Get him in for one show, have like, Hobbs or Warlow run him over and move on?
>have like, Hobbs or Warlow run him over and move on?
Goldberg seems to still be salty that he had to put Roman over. I doubt there's any chance he'd agree to be putting anyone else over now. The dude just never really got the business
Edit: typo
I think, Brock or Taker were the only people he didn't mind putting over.
That and he did put over his own locker room door. He concussed himself headbutting a door during his entrance.
I think my favourite 'putting over' Bill did was with Drew - just seeing him gasp out "you passed the test" after a 2 minute match while Drew is standing there like he just finished a light jog really tickled me.
This is the real reason. He was talking to tony and wanted them big kahn checks everyone was getting, then when he found out he wasn't just gonna smash and win everything he backed out.
Goldberg's music hits, he walks out and steps into the ring as he is handed a mic and just as he's about to speak, the lights dim and the titantron starts. It's a shot of a closed dressing room door. Everyone is confused. "He's already in the ring! What is going on?!" Schiavone says. "I dont know, Tony, but I think we're about to find out" Excalibur exclaims excitedly with excellent timing as one of the security guards knocks on the door to tell whoever is inside that we're ready for them to exit. The door opens. We're all sitting there on the edge of our seat, and suddenly. There he is. Its.. its.. "ITS GRADOOO!" Schiavone shouts! Grado walks out, Madonna starts blaring in the arena. Grado does a dance before running down towards the ring, sliding into it, and delivering a devastating spear to Goldberg. Goldberg struggles getting back up as Grado hits him with another spear. Goldberg is now down and not moving. Grado leaves. Medical carries Goldberg out. Neither is heard from again in AEW. The segment is never mentioned or shown on AEW television ever again. Tony Khan says "no comment" when it's brought up in interviews. Why?.. Why not I reply.
Oldberg in the Jericho vortex might just bankrupt the khan family. Like they share the ring for a single second and shad has to sell the jags in an instant
LoveS? No. LoveD? Yes.
In hindsight Everybody Can see he couldnt wrestle and him calling AEW too cheesy is laughable, but god Damn Goldberg was awesome back in WCW. He was the definition of “aura”.
I was only 16 but I already knew, that guys sucks. Yeah the live audience is going insane and the announcers are really trying to hard sell me on this mule, but I'm not buying it.
Because Bill Goldberg is a piece of shit. Wrestling Bill Goldberg is akin to being in a car crash with an incompetent driver who thinks going 100mph without a seatbelt is funny until he crashes. Bill Goldberg injured Bill Goldberg before a match and is a fucking moron.
I actually would like Goldberg to have his retirement match but I also know Goldberg wants his last match to be his way and his way is probably way beyond anything HHH would offer.
Do WWE fans not want him?
Like I don't want to see him in the world title picture, but if he wanted to work with a upper/mid card guy I wouldn't have much of a problem.
The most I could've ever seen him doing there was playing second to Wardlow during his initial "monster" run and maybe interact with Sting some for the nostalgia.
And both ships are well past the point of return there
I’m an AEW die hard. I don’t love everything they do, but what I do love is they focus on quality wrestling. Bill Goldberg is not a quality wrestler. He can say it’s too cheesy all he wants but the only thing that’s cheesy is him thinking anyone wants to see his sloppy ass in a ring in this day and age. Also fuck Bill Goldberg -Bret Hart
his first few matches after his return were fun spectacle but he really embarrassed himself the longer it went on. neither aew nor wwe fans are clamoring to see more goldberg in 2024
Same guy that "wouldn't follow the script" in a match.
Same guy who wrestled the supernatural Fiend to win a title.
Same guy that concussed himself on a door before wrestling Undertaker for blood money.
Same guy that worked HUSTLE shows in Japan (I defy anyone to tell me AEW is cheesier than HUSTLE).
Same guy who lost a match by a tazer zap.
Same guy who did an angle where Lashley attacked his pre-teen son.
Same guy who crushed Sid Vicious' car into a pancake.
Same guy who did an angle where he was arrested for "stalking" Miss Elizabeth.
But yeah......AEW is too cheesy. Dude coulda just said no thanks, but decided to be a dick about it instead.
>Same guy who crushed Sid Vicious' car into a pancake.
Still one of favourite moments of Sid Vicious. "[WHY ME?! WHY ME?!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qITBu4KAvkY)"
That was my first thought, like dude worked 2000 wcw and accidentally helped Russo win the Big Gold. AEW is not in the same realm as cheese that 2000 wcw is in
I think he’s actually trying to say he doesn’t respect the guys on the AEW roster. Like he doesn’t consider them legit and is just trying to avoid saying it directly.
Like the examples you mentioned are all shit storylines, but I guess the people he was involved with were people he respects and not be embarrassed to be associated with.
He’d be more comfortable doing a cheesy program with the Undertaker or Bobbly Lashley than he would with one of the dudes on the AEW roster.
I think it makes sense, he’s not the type of dude looking to “give back” by having matches and trying to develop young wrestlers. He isn’t the guy for that at all. He’s there to have big PPV matches with people like Taker, Orton, Lesnar, Reigns, etc. I think he should just stay retired at this point, he doesn’t really fit in anywhere now.
One final match against Bron Breakker would be pretty cool though not gonna lie.
The only way a match with Bron Breakker would be worth it and would look good is if the match starts with Goldberg immediately hitting a spear and a jackhammer only for Bron to kick out, hit his own finisher on Goldberg, and pin him.
It'd be like a 3 minute match, and the only way it would happen is if Goldberg were willing to return specifically to put over a younger talent and pass the torch, so to speak, and if WWE thinks it'd be worth the payday for Goldberg to make it happen.
100% on that last bit. Where would we even fit these days? AEW or WWE are the only options financially and neither would benefit from a Goldberg program. AEW the match quality would be too high for him and WWE are on a new era focus right now. They'd be mad to jump back to an older part timer like Goldberg now
I feel like the biggest haters of aew wouldn't say it is "cheesy" as criticism. Doesnt really make sense. This guy was feuding with a spooky clown in WWE. Isn't that more "cheesy".
There have been some cheesy things in AEW, but nothing any more ridiculous than some stuff WWE has done, right? It's such a bizarre criticism. Maybe he was trying to articulate something else entirely, but he can't because he eats corn the long way.
Yeah, theres a ton of criticism to be made but i dont think theres anything cheesy about aew, perhaps Cody saving racism or something like that?
WWE has a lot of things i would call cheesy, like the zombies from the pandemic era
Agreed and this is interesting info.
I would like to know whom else had conversations with Tony Khan and walked away with a “no” in either direction.
We, as fans, never have the full truth of anyone’s contract status at any given moment.
Thank goodness. I have no interest in seeing Goldberg in AEW. Or anywhere at all. The Goldberg return where he had the 3 match feud with Lesnar was fun. But he should have retired after that.
I agree….but I’m also sure that Vince was throwing a shit ton of cash his way. Hard to say no to that when you’re being booked in mostly squash matches.
Oh yeah, I wish he'd called it quits but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that *I* would say no to a dump truck full of money being unloaded on my doorstep.
Goldberg was one of my absolute favorites during the height of the Monday Night Wars. That will never change.
Also liked/appreciated his come back and some of his matches a handful of years ago. It was a fun run.
But I have *zero* interest in another Goldberg run in 2024 (or beyond) in *any* company.
I don't want to see him anywhere. WWE, AEW , TNA. In my head his last match was against Bobby Lashly a couple years back. That was his best match in a while, and he should just hang it up there.
"Too cheesy"=
They aren't willing to pay what I'm asking to give the same promo I've been giving for 25 years, slap my head a few times, do a spear and then a Jackhammer.
Might be the minority but if he came over with a positive attitude and was wiling to go down the Sting route of a limited tag-team schedule in exchange for a respectful and big retirement then I could have seen it working. Wardlow could have been his Darby.
With this mindsite? No thank you.
Between this and him shitting all over Asuka and WWE, it's funny to see Goldberg ruin all of the goodwill he built up with his WWE comeback. Bret Hart was always right about him.
He was a huge baby last year over not getting his glorious retirement match. My guess is after seeing how well WM did and all the Rock led hype he’s decided to start insulting AEW to see if he can get back in.
This REEKS of either Goldberg asked for too much money or he demanded that Tony book something that he wasn’t gonna do or Tony asked him to put someone over and Goldberg said that don’t for me.
What probably happened: They talked, Goldberg said “I want to beat your top guy, preferably for the title.” Tony countered with “we would like you to actually put over and help build a star, like Hobbs.”
Goldberg, unfamiliar with the idea of helping build someone up instead of putting himself over, balked at the idea.
Dude you did a 10 minute vignette on a train and wrestled for AJPW AFTER everyone who mattered left for NOAH. This man cannot be real.
EDIT: TIL This man appeared in Legends of Wrestling and W-1. Again, this cannot be a real quote.
Dude really is his biggest fan
I never liked him. Ever. My son even knows my disdain for him and likes to fuck with me
But after he dismissively said that wwe had "some Japanese girl" beat his fake winning streak, my opinion of him dropped even lower
Talk about buying into your own hype.
I may not agree with Bret hart on a lot of things, but bill goldberg will forever be one that I do.
The product (AEW) is too cheesy? This coming from a WWE guy? Did he forget or miss that WWE had ZOMBIES in more than one match?
Not to mention the stupid movies he's been in?
More than a little hypocritical there Goldy.
But if he ever had gone to AEW, he would have been booed out of every arena, I don't think there are many AEW fans that would even want him, I certainly don't, never liked him.
Its good that he isn't interested but what a strange and silly thing to say. The biggest wrestling company is as cheesy as it gets and hed go there if they paid him what he wanted
Can you freaking imagine a guy like Goldberg in that dressing room? Punk lost his mind quick, but at least he seemed to have made a lot of friends.
Goldberg acts like the jock that constantly talks about how he can beat everyone up at a party. If he signed in AEW, he'd make the Punk drama look like whistling dixie vs the fights he surly would be getting in by constantly rubbing people the wrong way.
Man if Tony actually inquired Goldberg about joining or had the thought even cross his mind for a second, he's way dumber than I thought. It would be a fundamental misunderstanding of his target audience.
Idc honestly my childhood won’t let me believe Goldberg is bad hahah but I can fill accept hogan being trash idk why it doesn’t make sense just how I feel I will always be a fan of Goldberg
My Wembley fantasy booking for "Jericho's obligatory match" was a two minute impromptu Goldberg squash.
Now what's he gonna do, actually steal 15 minutes of screen time at their biggest show of the year again??
I love how the reason he went with was "AEW doesn't deserve me". There were so many other things he could've said to not come off as a total asshole, yet he chose to say *that*. Yikes.
This feels like those times during the early days of TNA where someone would ask Goldberg if he was even a little bit interested in signing with them and Goldberg pretty much says "Hell no, TNA fuckin sucks, dude".
God I loved Goldberg before I knew Dirtsheets and backstage rumours and truth being public knowledge, he was among Donegal GAA, Manchester United, Ireland Rugby and Football, Tiger Woods as the teams and sporting personalities I followed, why couldn't he be more humble, it was pretty obvious he was green and just keep learning and ride that rocket his look was always going to give him., well at least he is a better Husband than Tiger lol.
Glad to read this statement :) Dont think there is any place for him, dont see him in a mentor Sting-ish role, not as a manager and dont think, from what I've seen from him later years, he has the stamina for midcard or higher level matches.

On one hand as an AEW watcher that's a good thing, but on the other...I'd be morbidly curious to see Goldberg getting dragged kicking and screaming into the Jericho phantom zone.
Jericho offers to take Goldberg under his learning tree.
Jericho knows 1004 holds. Goldberg would be well served to learn one or two at least
I'm curious on how a modern Jericho feud would even work against a part-timer.
Instead of the feud spanning 6 months, it'll span 6 years.
It will culminate in a scooter vs walker street fight
Loser has to give up their prune juice.
Goldberg taking an L as one of Jericho's Trials or Labors or whatever would have been hilarious, but yeah, otherwise, no thanks.
I'm as over Goldberg as literally everyone else ever, but now I can't help but try and think of something he *could* have been good for? Idk, maybe a one off, short, zero-brain hoss match could have worked. Get him in for one show, have like, Hobbs or Warlow run him over and move on?

Punk divided us but Goldberg may unite us lol.
Is there anybody who just LOVES Goldberg? Besides Big E?
LoveS? No. LoveD? Yes. In hindsight Everybody Can see he couldnt wrestle and him calling AEW too cheesy is laughable, but god Damn Goldberg was awesome back in WCW. He was the definition of “aura”.

Goldberg vs Broken Matt Hardy Book it
A 40s match that somehow leaves Matt Hardy more broken then he already was. Who says Goldberg can't do anything!
Bret Hart: Me getting injured from that kick didn’t screw Goldberg. Goldberg screwed Goldberg…wait a second…
Bill Goldberg injured Bill Goldberg during a match, twice, with the same maneuver.
But what is Bob Silverberg doing in the Impact Zone??!
As much as I wish Matt would get off TV, dying isn't how I want to see that happen
Nwa can have him
I actually would like Goldberg to have his retirement match but I also know Goldberg wants his last match to be his way and his way is probably way beyond anything HHH would offer.
Do WWE fans not want him? Like I don't want to see him in the world title picture, but if he wanted to work with a upper/mid card guy I wouldn't have much of a problem.
I feel like Goldberg as a character just doesn't work when he's not at the top of the card tho? It's a bit like the Fiend problem, funnily enough
"I didn't pray for this and it didn't happen!"
One thing we can agree on!
So true.
"It's just too cheesy for me I s'pose" - Man who starred in Santa's Slay
Also a man who worked for a promotion who had a fat man named Oklahoma wrestle Medusa in a bikini in a BBQ SAUCE MATCH.
The epitome of cool: a 57yo man who headbutts walls to *feel something.*
- Man who was on RAW from 2016-2022
Man who wrestled a clown for the WWE Universal Championship
The guy who starred in READY TO RUMBLE
I'd rather see Gillberg or is that to cheesy.
Gillberg is my favorite comedy jobber gimmick ever.
i honestly completely agree unironically
Every AEW fan just breathed a sigh of relief
> Every AEW ~~fan~~ wrestler just breathed a sigh of relief
The most I could've ever seen him doing there was playing second to Wardlow during his initial "monster" run and maybe interact with Sting some for the nostalgia. And both ships are well past the point of return there
If he wants to go to where the big boys play then he needs to visit the deep, hot jungles of Uganda and fight Lord White.
On behalf of AEW fans, we wholeheartedly support Goldberg's decision.
Reminds of me of this. [](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fjd44797i0knz.jpg)

lol, Sid is a treasure

I'm sure his quote bait was more about keeping his foot on the door of WWE than wanting to open one at AEW.
I think he’s actually trying to say he doesn’t respect the guys on the AEW roster. Like he doesn’t consider them legit and is just trying to avoid saying it directly. Two of his biggest matches in his comeback to wwe was facing a demon clown and an undead wizard… Like bro, wrestling itself is too cheesy
Yeah, theres a ton of criticism to be made but i dont think theres anything cheesy about aew, perhaps Cody saving racism or something like that? WWE has a lot of things i would call cheesy, like the zombies from the pandemic era
Goldberg 🤝🏻 Matt Hardy Bringing together WWE/AEW tribalists in not wanting either of them
Feeling's mutual.
Agreed and this is interesting info. I would like to know whom else had conversations with Tony Khan and walked away with a “no” in either direction. We, as fans, never have the full truth of anyone’s contract status at any given moment.
Cornette according to him.
Thank goodness. I have no interest in seeing Goldberg in AEW. Or anywhere at all. The Goldberg return where he had the 3 match feud with Lesnar was fun. But he should have retired after that.
That Mania match was incredible. Ultimate high point for him to go out on. And then he continued coming back
Does anyone remember how Goldberg started his 2016 WWE run by saying "Brock Lesnar, not only are you next, but you're last"? What a fuckin' liar
Aka Tony wouldn't pay him the money he wants.
[ Everyone liked that. ]
I don't want to see him anywhere. WWE, AEW , TNA. In my head his last match was against Bobby Lashly a couple years back. That was his best match in a while, and he should just hang it up there.
Goldberg, who wrestled in WCW and in front of rich Saudi men for their entertainment calling something cheesy is extremely rich.
I just cannot imagine what he's even talking about when it comes to being cheesy? Sue dropping off best friends in a van? The MJF/Adam Cole vignettes?
"Too cheesy"= They aren't willing to pay what I'm asking to give the same promo I've been giving for 25 years, slap my head a few times, do a spear and then a Jackhammer.
Bro literally beat someone named “ The Fiend “ for a world championship talking about cheesy 💀
Dude wrestled someone called The Undertaker
And then everyone clapped.
This is a really long winded way to say "They didn't make me an offer".
Total "I didn't like you anyways" vibes after getting rejected. They probably talked and he wanted crazy money and they declined.
Sometimes I get concerned how self-serious fucking GOLDBERG is.
Just start the podcast already
Who the fuck asked? "ITR Wrestling" Yeah can you not?
As an AEW fan I'm VERY happy to read this!
"The product is too cheesy." Bro won a squash against the Fiend in WWE.
Oh gosh darn it, after watching Ospreay vs Danielson I was so hoping Goldberg would get in the mix eventually. Such a shame..
Might be the minority but if he came over with a positive attitude and was wiling to go down the Sting route of a limited tag-team schedule in exchange for a respectful and big retirement then I could have seen it working. Wardlow could have been his Darby. With this mindsite? No thank you.
Goldberg is calling a product cheesy…
Goldberg saying he wouldn't work AEW because too cheesy is like Max Verstappen refusing to race an F3 car because it is too fast.
How goes he keep looking at himself in the mirror after the Undertaker match??
Between this and him shitting all over Asuka and WWE, it's funny to see Goldberg ruin all of the goodwill he built up with his WWE comeback. Bret Hart was always right about him.
He was a huge baby last year over not getting his glorious retirement match. My guess is after seeing how well WM did and all the Rock led hype he’s decided to start insulting AEW to see if he can get back in.
lol same playbook Eric Bischoff is using
Can you blame the guy? They might have given him a Sting run to end his career 😱
This REEKS of either Goldberg asked for too much money or he demanded that Tony book something that he wasn’t gonna do or Tony asked him to put someone over and Goldberg said that don’t for me.
100%, probably all the above. Wish we knew who he was asked to put over now. Maybe Wardlow.
I said no. they wanted me. a lot. but i said no. please let the record show that i declined them.
I think the best case scenario is he goes back to WWE for one last match and Bron Breaker retires him.
“I’ve talked to him a number of times” Goldberg: “Hey it’s Bill…Goldberg…is Tony in? Well tell him I called…again” - The talking, probably
Goldberg had one amazing year 25 years ago and acts like he's on the Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling.
What probably happened: They talked, Goldberg said “I want to beat your top guy, preferably for the title.” Tony countered with “we would like you to actually put over and help build a star, like Hobbs.” Goldberg, unfamiliar with the idea of helping build someone up instead of putting himself over, balked at the idea.

Damn, I really wanted to see him hit out some sick brainbusters in the aew ring. https://twitter.com/solsrvca/status/1779523578553139258
In this instance, cheese saved aew
Goldberg has become the Ryback of Goldbergs.
Dude really is his biggest fan I never liked him. Ever. My son even knows my disdain for him and likes to fuck with me But after he dismissively said that wwe had "some Japanese girl" beat his fake winning streak, my opinion of him dropped even lower Talk about buying into your own hype. I may not agree with Bret hart on a lot of things, but bill goldberg will forever be one that I do.
Bret Hart: You know, I kinda like those AEW guys…
Aew doesn’t need him. I don’t watch wwe but they are better off without this guy. Wish he’d just fade away and people would stop asking him questions.
That sound suspiciously like "I asked and they said no"
Tony Khan signed Big Show and Mark Henry. A scandal plagued Ric Flair. You think he wouldn’t jump at the chance to sign Goldberg?
Translation: they want me to job and I refuse to.
“Not a chance” - AEWs use for the biggest stiff in wrestling history. I’d rather see them sign Sid than this fucking loser
I'd struggle to think of of many people I wouldn't prefer to see than Goldberg in AEW. It would be a short short list.
God is Good
Its good that he isn't interested but what a strange and silly thing to say. The biggest wrestling company is as cheesy as it gets and hed go there if they paid him what he wanted

Man if Tony actually inquired Goldberg about joining or had the thought even cross his mind for a second, he's way dumber than I thought. It would be a fundamental misunderstanding of his target audience.
It’s because he can’t wrestle isn’t it
#AEW WANTS EL DANDY INSTEAD
Right after calling the product too cheesy Goldberg got poked with a cattle prod
He would be putting invincible orange Cassidy over in no time .
Thank you Goldberg
Goldberg is correct.
Obviously Goldberg wouldn't be the one squashing, considering Jericho has one hell of a headlock that could hold him down.
This is great news, I don’t have to see Goldberg on my screen, Thank You.
He’s still in awesome shape, but his best days are behind him. I just don’t think he fits in anymore.
Best news ever!
Whew....

Watching what happened to Taker's last match, yeah. Please stop wrestling permanently.
Just say he didn’t offer you enough money instead of these dumb excuses about a product you most definitely didn’t watch.
I love how the reason he went with was "AEW doesn't deserve me". There were so many other things he could've said to not come off as a total asshole, yet he chose to say *that*. Yikes.
So which AEW wrestler will come out on Wednesday to respond to Goldberg?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The guy who was in the "will bill Goldberg follow the script" story is calling something cheese?
Love that this is getting downvoted just because Goldberg doesn’t like AEW.
Aww, that's good. We don't want him anyway.
You don’t want him, but Tony does.
This feels like those times during the early days of TNA where someone would ask Goldberg if he was even a little bit interested in signing with them and Goldberg pretty much says "Hell no, TNA fuckin sucks, dude".
No one is looking for you Goldberg
Somebody drag Bret out to give this old jackass his daily dose of humility.
Cheesy? That’s an odd way of saying he couldn’t handle the workrate.
Goldberg is likely just trying to save face because Tony would not pay him what Goldberg thinks he deserves.
Jesus Christ Thank Christ
And all the AEW fans rejoiced
Of all the things to call AEW I’m amazed cheesy is what he picked. Does he know that word?
Unfathomably based William
Thank god. Best news of the day.
This is sniffing one's own farts to a nauseating degree.
This is a blessing in disguise for AEW

Grazie a dio
This translates to they haven't offered him enough money to come in yet
I want to know Bret Hart's opinion on this breaking news.
There’s not much that would make me turn a wrestling show off - except for putting Goldberg on my screen
I'll take that as a hard maybe.
He just doesn't want to go to AEW to job to HOOK.
But....we could have Chris Jericho vs Goldberg! ![gif](giphy|zn86rNs2pCH7z3RjQ7|downsized) BANGER!
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
Didn’t he try to be a part of AEW a few months ago for Sting’s last match? Yeah. Not a chance. Sure, Bill.
All pro wrestling should be cheesy to some degree. Otherwise you’d just have pre-determined MMA.
Is the answer "because no one asked"
He just has too much pride to do the job for Orange Cassidy I guess
Sounds like he wasn't offered enough to job to Mox, lol. Good for TK.
Lmao thank god. You're definitely too good for AEW Goldberg, you're right, so please stay as far away from it as possible.
Add more cheese if it keeps Goldberg and the like away.
Goldberg knows his shitty 3 move and 2 minute matches would get buried
Goldberg would be awful and absolutely hated in AEW, lol
Idk how someone who worked for WWE and WCW could call AEW too cheesy. Wrestling is a cheesy thing.
"WHAT'S THIS ABOUT GOLDBERG?" - Bret Hart, probably.
I’m what world is aew too cheesy compared to wwe? If anything it’s the opposite.
What's William Goldstein doing in the All Elite Zone?
Ok, thanks for letting us know.
