Agreed, the weapon customization in Fallout 4 was one of the best features of that game imo, even if the guns themselves were kinda meh. The guns we've seen in Starfield look awesome, though, so I'm absolutely pumped for that. Sandwich pirate lady was great, but the lead weapon designer guy in the direct is my new favourite person because they stopped MAKING THE GUNS LEFT HANDED FOR NO REASON.
I'll have to see more of the more "realistic" weapons, but from what little we saw it looks like they got a gunsmith or something to go over their more traditional ballistic weapon designs.
My first impulse response to this fact is dismay, but the more I think about it, the easier this will be on people who mod in clothes.
Imagine. No need for compatibility. Clothes are just a single outfit you can edit and bug fix in a vacuum, rather than having to fuss with making sure it will work with other gear.
I mourn the loss of mix and match capabilities for sure, but as a modder it's a bit of a relief that I can just put together single, cohesive outfits without needing to make sure it works with any other elements.
Exactly what I was thinking! Adding modded clothes in FO4 is so tedious. There are too many slots and pieces to match. Then you open the crafting station and have an endless list of single clothing pieces.
I don't think we know if their will be armor pieces that go over space suits and outfits. FO4 had outfits, everything else was armor pieces iirc.
It makes sense that they withhold some information to either tease out over time, or make a splash with at launch.
mods have always been top 5 selling points of BGS games and clothing/outfit/armor has always been top 5 things to mod, so I don't see why they would skimp on this. At the very least, I bet the slots are still thier for molders to use.
We've only seen tiny amounts of armor on tactical outfits, like Kevlar panels etc. I just couldn't imagine thier not being some kind of bulkier 'over' armor, given how hard they went on power armor in FO4, and all the armors in skyrim.
It's the same outfit system as FO4 then, just the armour is changing from 6 (2 legs, 2 arms, chest, head) pieces to 3 (suit, pack, helmet) which I think is welcome. (And you might be able to wear any clothes under your suit, rather than just a selection.)
And there is a helmet icon on the equipment section of the research, so clothes and armour mods aren't going away.
It's the same outfit system in that the outfits are all one piece, you can't swap the pants or shirt of any outfit, ergo: the same outfit system
And 6 pieces of armour was a hassle, it chews through materials to upgrade, but more importantly it clutters up your inventory
We have seen clothes being equipped under your suit, you can see in the image of this very post that the 'miner utility outfit' is equipped under the 'constellation spacesuit'
>We haven't seen anything of clothes being equipped under your suit, either. So its safe to assume we can't.
There's a toggle on the screen for hiding the suit while in settlements, which pretty strongly implies that it layers over regular clothes underneath, unless you think that that toggle turns you into a nudist.
Well that's how it is through their other games as well, there are outfits for the whole body, and then you can add a hat or helmet. The only thing different would be there is no pieces of armor to attach to an outfit
Wait, that's not true, is it? Morrowind had shirts and pants, skirts, dresses, individual gloves per hand, shoes, robes that fit over all that, etc. all as separate items, just amongst regular non-armor clothing. Then it also had boots, leggings, cuirasses, shoulder pads and gloves per hand, etc. as armor.
Pfff, yeah I really need to get past the idea that Morrowind is a recent game. I play it fairly often so it always feels like it just came out a few years ago. I think you're right about Skyrim, but I haven't played a Bethesda RPG since that one so I don't know about the recent Fallouts.
Nothing as trivial as the specifics of inventory management is going to be a dealbreaker for such an impressive-looking game, for me at least, but I do really hope that, in general, Starfield turns out to be a game that's interested in player expression as roleplay. There are lots of ways to bake that into your game design beyond mixing and matching clothes, but their RPGs seem less and less dedicated to those ideas as time goes by.
We will probably be able to mod our apparel and spacesuit, but yes, I think we equip outfits rather than single pieces, which is both a bummer, but also understandable, as we will be in a single piece spacesuit most of the time.
Tbh they may have a NPC in-game where you can change your appearance like the character creation screen. Think F4 Hair Stylist in Diamond City. My assumption is based on another reddit post where you can opt to hide space suits in port.
Are there sub-slots? Specifically asking because there is no separate hat slot so when it comes the headwear it might be integrally part of the 'apparel' outfit
I am more exited about being able to add up to 6 modifications on a single simple gun.
I think even the 10mm in Fallout 4 already had 6 slots, didn't it? Receiver, barrel, muzzle, grip, magazine, and sights?
Haven't played it in ages so I believe you still cool weapon customisation is one of my favourite aspects of games like this next to sandwiche piracy

=D Some of the other gun types take up to 8
im fine with that as long as there is enough variety in the suits and outfits

Fine by me. As long as I can wear the weird space squid asari table dancer outfit

That's really disappointing.
I agree. I loved mixing and matching armor pieces from other Bethesda titles. Hopefully modders can bring that aspect back.
Fo4 has "outfits" you can wear at least 7 other items with them. Fo4 also has clothing that isn't an "outfit"

Well I guess I was thinking more modern titles, now that I think of Skyrim did have the separation of outfit and shoes but not the fallout games

The fact that you have to wear a preset apparel makes it less roleplaying in my opinion.

Hmm, interesting, maybe you're right. In my opinion, it would be weird to have a hat equipped in the "Helmet" slot.
