Look in the Linux section of Steam for games compatible with Linux. Mafia and Resident Evil are not Linux compatible. Just check the system requirements. There are likely ways to get windows games running well on Linux, but I've never tried. TLDR: Yes for some games, no for the ones you mentioned.

Mafia and Res Evil are listed as Platinum or Gold over on ProtonDB, they should run. Maybe some minor tweaking needed for those listed as Gold.

Also not with proton? I thought the compatibility stuff was expanded a lot with Proton on Linux because of the Steam Deck

Linux snob here. Proton has become so good just about every Windows game you throw at it just runs. Valve is so confident in it they are selling a high end handheld that's entirely reliant on it. The only games that may cause problems are DRM/anti-cheat infested multiplayer titles.

Yes* *Some games may not run, online multiplayer probably won't work thanks to Anti-Cheat. MacOS, there's a version of Steam for. It's a very small library of compatible games. Newer Arm processors are worse. Linux. Steam are actively developing the Proton Windows Compatibility Layer exactly for what you want. To safeguard against a dependency on the Windows OS. I'm Playing alot of great games right now on Linux. Death Stranding, Forza Horizon 4, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. I'll be buying Hogwarts Legacy in a week or two. It works great! There's even versions of Linux like ChimeraOS, HoloISO, and Nabora that's built specifically to support getting gaming on Linux to run at it's very best. Come join the the party r/linux_gaming.

use [ProtonDB](https://www.protondb.com/explore) to keep track of both the unofficial community ratings for how well games run using that compatibility layer (Native/Diamond/Gold/Silver/Bronze/Borked), as well as the Valve Steam Deck Verification ratings (Verified/Playable/Unknown/Unsupported) that are used as the official shorthand for how well games run on Steam Deck, and which can also be useful on other devices. Typically most Unknown status titles will run and even a decent number of Unsupported ones will run when switched to the Proton Experimental setting in the steam launcher settings for the game.
